“Coney Island, the winter” -This is (not) New Yorkphotographs by nicola gnesi

For those who are used to seeing New York skyscrapers and yellow taxi cabs, to be at Coney Island is like stepping into another reality, so much so that one wonders if could really exist such a place just half an hour from the bustling Manhattan . Few cars, few rows at traffic lights and a calm sea, dominated by huge popular apartment blocks. In winter, the decline is the host, considering that many of the buildings are used as nursing homes. Walking Coney seems to be in Eastern Europe, perhaps because, just around the corner, there is Brighton Beach, the Russian district of NY. Right where you take the subway to find you after a few minutes, in the midst of the lights of Times Square.

Nicola Gnesi was born in Pietrasanta (LU) in March 1983. In 2002 he graduated from high school and the following year he enrolled in the Faculty of Law of the University of Pisa where he graduated in 2006. In 2012, spending time in New York, he started work on the faces of portraits and the importance of the body.
