While the west pier was a symbol of innovation, progress and a future full of promises, what about now ? What about inventing a new device, a hybrid of design, sculpture, infrastructure, architecture and public space, dedicated to simple pleasures, contemplation, but also playful activities, culture, sports, music, shows, festivals, life.

Overexposed at the top of the mountain, the fortress has become part of the very identity of the island of Favignana. If we want to reignite interest and mystery and create a new place for a cultural center, we need to work with and against this overexposure. By framing views on the fortress with the addition of a platter, we want to reveal as much as spark interest in the building by hiding it. The aim of the project is to create an interface, an in between at the edge of the context and the monument to blur the boundaries between inside and outside, private and public, art and culture, past and future, reality and imagination.

Outside of the grid, next to China town, the projet is at the intersection of two avenues, two veins of Los Angeles, at the convergence of perspectives, looking at both directions, connecting downton and more disadvantaged neighborhoods in a symbolic way with a music conservatory dedicated to the mixing of different cultures.

Close & Traveling is one thing, but seeing things with new eyes is another one. By seeing things through a camera, through a lens, or through the practice of drawing, observation then takes the experience of being somewhere at another level. A froggie in OZ How Australia changed my perception of Architecture and life in general by leaving all anchors behind SHAPES Two pictures, two contexts, but the same idea of deconstructing the frame, playing with voids and silhouettes, and redefining the way we perceive spaces and presence. How AUSTRALIA changed me ... After years of bliss studying Architecture, philosophing about the very concept of living and home, I was out on the real world, looking to put in practice what I had learnt. But the reality was other as I found out while working in a conventionnal studio. Fighting a strong solastalgia (existential distress caused by environmental change), I decided that there was better to do aged 25 than staying in front of a screen for the whole day waiting for the weekend, and I set off to Australia. But I needed a frame. When I first arrived, I was lost. I had left all my anchors in Europe and I needed to reset my perspectives. Luckily, Murakami was there to help me with his clever advice. “Everything has boundaries. The same holds true with thought. You shouldn’t fear boundaries, but you should not be afraid of destroying them. That’s what is most important if you want to be free: respect for and exasperation with boundaries.”*

Another is possible............... After some time on the eastern side of Tasmania, in the wonderful town of Coles Bay, I felt the need to go back to Architecture. In my guts, living close to Nature and far from trends and cities made this return to a simple lifestyle sound like an obvious choice. At the end of summer, with lots of books read on the beach, a nice tan, and hours of meditation, I logged on to HelpX looking for the next adventure. It would be on the western side of Tasmania, possibly in the remotest place, at the end of a one lane 8km gravel road: Lorinna. A small village of 100 souls, dispersed on the eastern side of the valley, with Cradle Mountain peaking on the horizon. Each one of them living in autonomous houses, mostly straw-bale built. Off I was in the wilderness...
