LES PLATEAUX GAMBETTA, University Sports Complex, Angers (49) Graduation Project, 2019, Nicolas Baudouin & Jules Mallet - directed by D. Cras & J. Chouzenoux Sport is a vehicle of personal development, social meetings, and a source of emancipation. The Plateaux Gambetta project, offers a sports center accessible to everyone, close to university campuses and the city center, sources of dynamism and social ties. We thus find many different programs organized around playing areas: student accommodation, collective catering and work spaces mingled with recovery places. The research halls make the interface between multisports hall and outdoor sports areas. By joining in the extension of one of the gables of the existing building, the architectural project aims to open the current block by generating a public square animated by various urban activities such as a skatepark or even a foodcourt dedicated space. A ramp starting from the square invites users to walk through the building from side to side, spanning the ring road, before discovering an esplanade opened onto the landscape and giving a direct access to the banks of the river Maine. The Plateaux Gambetta project aims to generate in a single entity, a balance through studies, well-being and social meeting space.

IMMERSION, Maritime Arts Museum, Saint-Malo (35) 2019, Nicolas Baudouin & Jules Mallet - directed by H. Perrin & D. Taburet Such as previous plastic installation based on the issue of the instability of climatic elements present in the maritime environment, the Immersion project invites visitors to take part in an architectural and scenographic experience linked to this same theme. Sometimes plunged into darkness, right before being guided by the sky, it is by walking through a fault, that users are brought to browse the works of the plastic artist Zimoun. Moreover, outdoor facades take shape thanks to an alternating assembly of glass bricks and metal fins, perpetually animating both sides of the museum by wind strength, thereby revealing or obscuring views and lights.

Permanent exhibition halls of the Museum are dedicated to hosting the works of the plastic artist Zimoun, whose work, both acoustic and mechanical, is devoted to the abstract representation of natural phenomena. The museum scenography is therefore organized around a selection of five artistic installations, dealing with climatic disturbances in the maritime environment.

WINE DRESS, Wine storage, Design ENSAB (35) 2018, Nicolas Baudouin & Jules Mallet - directed by H. Perrin & D. Taburet Wine Dress was born from the idea of being able to store wine at every kind of home, whatever the quantity, by engaging an aesthetic and practical aspect. This response is intended to be a refined response to the storage of wine, a second dress around the aromas of the grape. These few prototypes are the result of a collaboration with the «Plastit’it» company located in Le Rheu near Rennes. The various exchanges made it possible not only to find a light material easily machinable, resistant enough to the weight of a standard bottle of wine, but also to respect budgetary constraints. The alternation between solid slats (PMMA) and translucent slats (Plexiglas) allows, depending on the distance, to reveal more or less the bottle and the color of the wine. Beyond the aesthetic aspect, this constructive choice responds to the wine’s need to be protected from light and temperature changes. Finally, the opening concealed by magnetization helps not to alter the continuous profile of the object.

PARENTHÈSE, Inhabited footbridge, Paris-Bercy 15ème arr. (75) 2018, Nicolas Baudouin & Jules Mallet - directed by G. Guézo, M. Peiro, R. Kervella & C. Abou Khalil It is in the Bercy Charenton district in the 15th arrondissement of Paris that the inhabited Parenthèse footbridge takes place. On the basis of a real competition launched by the city of Paris, this work is distinguished by two levels of curved decks. First deck, offers several programs such as bleachers, bicycle storage as well as a panoramic bar / restaurant. Second deck is mainly dedicated to gentle traffic. Its cable-stayed structure aspires to a certain lightness, making it possible to join in a single impulse each of both banks.

FORUM URBAIN, Housing complex, Caen peninsula (14) 2017, Nicolas Baudouin & Jules Mallet - directed by J-P. Roche & C. Gallais As part of a desire for urban reappropriation of the Caen peninsula, the project is located on one of the three plots proposed by the city. Not far from the courthouse, at the junction of the large lawn and the current Alexis de Tocqueville library. The programming essentially dedicated to accommodating housing (from T1 to T6) had to be provided with an outdoor parking lot and a many shopping areas. Split in two by a road allowing the service of vehicles, the plot challenged to find a project unity despite its fragmentation. A breakthrough under the new open halls made it possible to offer both physical and visual reconnection between the peninsula and the city center.

NDC, Locker Rooms and Clubhouse, AndrĂŠ Bertin Stadium Angers (49) 2017, Nicolas Baudouin - proposal to the city Not far from the historic district of La Doutre, this proposal for the creation of new locker rooms echoes the sports development ambitions of the NDC Angers football club. Located in the heart of the complex, the locker rooms are ideally located to serve the three football fields. The stretched volume imposes a certain sobriety and opens on one side on the honor field, and on the other, towards the synthetic fields. Its layout on site offers the possibility of coming to register bleachers in its continuity if there is a future need. The clubhouse, overlooking the locker rooms, marks the entrance to the stadium all the more because it benefits from visibility on the three fields, thereby having an esplanade from the current soft topography of this part of the site .

CONVERGENCE, 21st century farming, Gévezé (35) 2017, Nicolas Baudouin & Paul Rousselet - directed by V. Jouve & E. De Bonduwe In constant collaboration with Mr. Dragon, owner of the Petite Gonzée farm, on the outskirts of Rennes, the main issue was focused on the way of thinking and doing agriculture in the 21st century, while taking into account the difficulties that face this activity nowadays in France. After a long analysis and a real discovery of the farming profession, the decision was made to reduce the size of the farm in order to focus it mainly around the farm itself, but also by taking advantage of diversifying activities on site . The mud buildings forming the farmyard are rehabilitated, the structure of the buildings dedicated to animals is partially preserved and the use redefined. Only one new construction is born, in order to best meet today’s expectations.

UNE PORTE VERS LA MER, Nautical base & youth hostel, Plouha (22) 2016, Nicolas Baudouin - directed by M. Faunières & C. Gaudoin It is in an idyllic setting, located between the sea and the cliffs, that the Palus’ beach in Plouha is the subject of a program dedicated to a nautical base coupled with a youth hostel. Today, the site itself hosts a large car park where cars and motor homes form a real front facing the sea. Therefore, the plot aspired to more discretion. Thus, set back from the bay and stretched in its length, the project opens widely on both sides towards the sea horizon and the surrounding heather. The dialogue with the few existing buildings finally allows us to create a gateway when we arrive on the site and, at the same time, to highlight the horizon.

ALVÉOLE, Emergency housing, «Médecins Du Monde» competition 2015, Nicolas Baudouin As part of an international competition organized by «Médecins Du Monde», it was proposed to imagine a modular emergency housing, that could be transportable, and of 25 m2 maximum area. By setting the context in that of the Darfur conflict, the decision was to locate the habitat in the eastern region of Chad. The goal was to make this temporary habitat a community and family refuge. It is by taking the hexagonal shape of the cell, inspired by beehives, that the assembly of several modules made it possible to meet this objective. All the elements making up a module are located inside the floor, thereby facilitating its transport and installation.

ZEESLANG, Complexe UCPA, Amsterdam (ND) 2015, Nicolas Baudouin and G. Airiau, R. Larbey & P. Rousselet - directed by D. Cras & J. Chouzenoux Located in the Noord Amsterdam district, the project comes from a collaboration with the organization of sports stays UCPA. This harbor site accommodates old equipment related to the naval activity of the NDSM company. The project involved the creation of a permanent ice rink that could include an event ice rink. In addition to this, there are free programs dedicated to sports and culture in particular. By gradually taking off the volume of the ground while rolling it up on itself, the experience is as much exterior as interior. The massive project is scaled up to the site and dialogues with its industrial past.

LES PIEDS DANS L’EAU, Imbricated housings, Rennes (35) 2014, Nicolas Baudouin & Lucas Fontaine - directed by D. Cras & J. Chouzenoux In the Alphonse Guérin district of Rennes, the plot offers an exceptional relationship with water. The Banette bakery company is now established there and an outdated water mill is also taking place. For this project, it was asked to imagine two closely interwoven individual housings, which however should only be able to meet in one common space. Therefore, the project offers a certain clarity of reading of the general volume, by the induced transparency of the basketball court, buffer space of both housings. We find the entire hollowed out volume in its center, allowing the different spaces to benefit from indirect light, but also to organize the living spaces around this void. Finally, to revive the site’s past, the water mill is restored.
