SITE ANALYSIS Pera, a village of the Nicosia District, about 18 km southwest of the capital. The village is situated near the east bank of the river Pedieos, at an average altitude of 350 m. From a geological point of view, the administrative area of the village is dominated by the deposits of the Nicosia formation (sandstones, cobbles and sandstone Maries) and recent alluvial deposits from the Holocene geological period.
Studio’s central objective is to provide students the chance and opportunity of initially comprehending the significance of urban landscape as a modern synthesis of a multifaceted ‘mosaic’ out of environmental, social, cultural, economical etc. parts. Cultural landscapes are the framework for managing this complexity and contradiction, and the opportunity of demarcating new relationships where each part has its own rights and the disposal of safeguarding and developing them creatively. The ability of managing all possible relationships developed in space offers a wide range of approaches since all dimensions of design require redefinition. In this sense studio is not only offered as a field of synthesizing knowledge that was acquired but also as a field of experimentation and close observation not only in environmental issues but also in a range of subjects that constituted the educational process until the 5th semester (process of planning, materials, construction, urban issues, maintenance, cultural and social issues etc.)
CONCEPT The central idea is based on the concept of erosion. Functions allocated to the plot in such a way that its outer wall completes the outer limit; at the same time the bottom (street level) does not disturb this ridge. It allows an unobstructed view of the surrounding nature. Due to the strong inclination of the plot and the concept of corrosion, the composition created attempts to highlight the characteristics of the analysis.

This studio course attempts to articulate students experiences on architectural design with the issues related to the urban environment and the ways of intervention in the urban fabric. The course is not focused in one building type but in a multifunctional type of large scale building programs. Studio’s basic design parameters focus on: the relation and integration of the proposed artefact with the urban context, analysis and design of the interrelated open public spaces and their connection to the proposed intervention, comprehension of the urban setting conditions and their relations on the design form of the intervention, the capability of architecture to improve the image of the city, consideration on environmental design and sustainability issues, landscape design approach. The studio course focuses on large scale and much more complex interventions than the ones of the previous semesters and pays particular importance in questions of management of complexity that accompany a multifaceted context setting, a complex building program and management of information that results from the analysis of this complexity. In this course students are called to compose knowledge gained from the development of all previous laboratories of architectural design. The ability of managing all possible relationships developed in space, offers a wide range of approach since all dimensions of design require redefinition. In this sense this studio is not only offered as a field of synthesizing knowledge that was acquired but also as a field of experimentation and close observation in all range of subjects that constituted the educational process (urban issues, process of planning, construction technology, bioclimatic design, materiality, etc).
GATE SABBIONARA
PUBLIC/ FARMERS MARKET SQUARE/ WOODEN PLATFORM Spectacle mainly from the area of Koum Kapi and Cyprus Street. It offers the experience to visitors to be at the farmers’market. In the middle of this elongated area of the eastern ancient city walls there is a shaped wooden platform that extends cantilevered over the walls and the pit.
MOVIE THEATRE Crosses the bastion. It works as a cultural tunnel and shaft, connecting east with west region behind the city walls.
