Architecture carries within it the ability to address the issues of our time, of a program, of a place, through the assembly of fundamentally rudimentary elements: materials and construction, tectonics and proportions, sky and ground, light and shadow, senses and emotions. Their subtle composition offers sensitive spaces, capable of welcoming the diverse and varied expression of life. In this, the primary objective of architecture should be the design and defense of quality and human spaces. It is a fact of exchanges, sharing, collaborations and intuitions. This objective is accompanied by a commitment to the tectonic quality of the built space, an architecture that combines finesse and constructive rigor. Architecture is conceived in phase with the problems of its time, political, social, environmental, and must respond with simplicity, humility, sobriety, foresight and critical spirit. In an age of acceleration and globalization, architecture also has the potential to make us take a step aside if we want to. This by focusing on the meaning of things during the design process, by trying to reveal what is already there, the site or the things themselves. But also by giving more importance to the acts of life and the acts of architecture itself and their meaning beyond the purely aesthetic. I am looking for a practice that defends a strong architectural commitment, precise proposals that respond to the questions of the site and the commission, and an ambitious and prospective approach to environmental issues..

Developped to be a standardbearers of the company, this project dealed with an especially high quality expectations. The whole building is based on a 2m by 2m grid coming from the industrial layout. A rigorous work with the client and the contractors had allowed to stage the technical elements and magnify the stucture with the realisation of custom-made drilled steel beam. The construction is made from noble materials, concrete, steel, zinc, all implemented to showcase the skills of the craftsmen. The concrete walls were poured with great caution following a meticulous layout work of the panels and electrical equipments. The zinc cladding revisit the traditional flake cladding from the context, with an central embossed stamp, in reference to the factory activity. In close relationship with the client, I oversaw the whole developpement and design of the project, from programming to its completion.

The ND SJ Institution is a private school, deeply engaged into a reconsideration of the way schools should teach. This project which group a professionnal graduate school, the administration of the whole Institution and multipurpose hall, was the occasion to translate into space the Institution philosophy. It led to a project of regular square teaching rooms, able to support a high variability of teaching organisation, gather around a large hall which was supposed to host a multiplicity of activity and to encourage the independant and work group. Draw like a square in a square, this project is also a work about geometrical composition, with a research about regulating lines and proportion. Following two years of exchanges with the client, it was plan to be built like 3 structural free plans, with a use of pre-cast concrete, to allow a great flexibility. In contrast, the tile cladded facade was expected to showcase the perenity of the construction. The documents shown here depict several phases of the project development. My function was to develop the design of the project, in close relationship with the client and with assistance from two junior collegues, from programming to the construction documentation. This proposal display a refurbishment and extension project for an high school. The existing building, from the 70’s, is made with modular and prefab technical solutions. The choice made is to reorganise the circulations and to add a wing on the right side of the building and to form an H shape. By that way, the building and it’s internal organisation become clearer. To this aim, a work is made to bring light in the circulation and offer richer spatial experience with few double storey rooms. The extension is build simply, with insulated bricks, a thermal insulation and a plaster as external finish to be efficiant about the cost and that to be able to renovate the former building with the same quality than for the new. My role was to work on the conception and to manage the work of two other colleagues on the production of graphic documents.

Construction of a primary school Atelier Tardy & Associés Public competition Client : SIDEC du Jura Location : Chamblay (FR) Surface : 1500m² Budget : 3,2 M€ 3rd prize
The site for the construction of the new school is at the edge of a small one-road village, located in a narrow valley. The project is seen as an interface between the village as a dwelling space and the nearby fields, forest and hill, as a landscape. It is basically a long roof set on a field, with the classroom underneath. The organisation of the different functions is made in the same direction as the village, whereas the school covered courtyard are set transversally as a space in between the village and the landscape. The building is made by a succession of arches to give it a more human scale and a rythm referring to the close church. Planned in wood construction, the building would have express the local and traditional constructive know-how. My role was to work on the conception and to manage the work of two other colleagues on the production of graphic documents.

Refurbishment of former industrial buildings in a moutain village Atelier Tardy & Associés Private commission Client : confidential Location : confidential Surface : 4800m² Budget : 11 M€ Status : On-going studies
This project was commissioned by a fine jewellery company located in the Jura’s mountain (FR). They possess an important number of buildings in a village historically engaged in jewellery activity. The most promeminent of those buildings are 3 former factories, currently used as office for one of them and not used anymore for the others. They’re also the owner of few smaller building serving as housing. Since their porperty portfolio reprensent a significant part of the village and is situated in the center, to engage a project on those buildings imply to work on a more large scale intervention. So this project combine a very operative part about an indutrial refurbishment but also a wider reflexion on how to bring attractiveness to a declining moutain village. Starting with an extensive analysis process, the project indentify a singularity in the developpement of the plots of the center, related to the creation of a new road coming from the valley an hundred of years ago. It propose to bring an answer to this problematic by the use of geometry, by making a clearing in the center of the village, to bring more light and air, to create public space more significant than the roadsides. It result in a square shape, support by the façades of close buildings. With this geometric operation, the remaining buildings are expressed in their singularity, high rise industrial buildings in a village mostly made of two storey housing. My role on this project was to work one the analysis, the programming and the first drafts, displayed here, with another colleague, in direct relationship with the client. 20

Nursery and Elementary School Rue Royale Architectes Public competition (2016) Client : Vaulx-en-Velin City Location : Vaulx-en-Velin (FR) Surface : 3600m² Budget : 8,1 M€ Status : Under construction
This project of 9 elementary classes, 6 nursery classes, a pre-school and a dedicated restaurant is part of an urban project in Vaulx-en-Velin. Organised around the schoolyard and a patio, this project is made from 2 L-shaped volumes, one downstairs made with stamped concrete, one upstairs made in timber framed walls with a ply-wood pannel covered by a corrugated polycarbonate layer as finish. My role was to work with the architect in charge on the project studies, the permitting and the construction element, with among other things the developpement of the BIM 1 model and a cartboard model work about the timber-framed façade details.

Boarding for Sport High School Rue Royale Architectes Public competition (2016) Client : Region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Location : Villeurbanne (FR) Surface : 2000m² Budget : 4,1 M€ Status : Completed
This project follows a wining entry for a public competition for the construction of a new «excellence» boarding for the lycée Fays. Its purpose is to host sport students and technical students. An existing building, part of the heritage ensemble of the high school is refurbished in 3 flats, while a building in continuation is demolished to make room for the new building which respect the former footprint. The proposal articulate an old building as gable, a ground floor porous to host collective functions like a student house, and a tectonic volume upstairs with the student rooms, made with stone cladding. The project is read as tectonic mass and a traditional construction articulated by a ribbon of glass and metal. Following the competition, my role on this project was to assist the architect in charge on the project studies, the permitting the developpement of the BIM 1 model and a cartboard model.

Final element of an urban project, this open block act as joint between two districts and provide the continuity of the public space. The 5 buildings composing the block handle with a complex context. They’re seen as a assembling of several carved mass, linked by the brick materiality and the rythm of the loggia façade. Their shapes follow the need for bringing sun light and views inside the block. My role on this project was to work on the public part with about 110 flats, all along the project studies and the permitting, and to ensure the developpment of the BIM model, in conjunction with scalène architectes, in charge of the private part.

Following a wining entry for a public consultation for the construction of a new underground parking under one of the biggest artery of the city, Taillandier Architect and Associates with Scalene Architect were in charge of the design of the pedestrian exits. The concept of those urban emergences, develop in close relation with the Ramblas project of Joan Busquets, was to provide a cover, to protect the access but also and mainly as an opportunity for mutualization and concentration of uses. I’ve been in charge of the conception, in direct link with scalene architectes, the client and the engineering office, from the competition to the Coupes et détails construction documentation.

This project is linked to the previous one and to the same consultation. The market-parking Victor Hugo is an heritage building from J. & P. Guénard associated to P. Lafitte, completed in the fifties. While the program was only concerning the accessibility and the renovation of the parking, the project aim to go beyond by thinking an overall rehabilitation, market included. The project’s objective is to switch from a closed perception to a more open and urban one, with a more porous facade and some room inside to foster gathering. But at the same time to offer an efficient work tool to the shopkeepersand to keep the ambiance of the place which is its main appeal. This project was also developped in relation with the urban project led by the architect Joan Busquets. My role on this project was to take part to the conception, the realization of graphic documents and the making of a laser cutted model.

The city of Ambert, despite a quality landscape and a cultural and built heritage, is marked by a certain isolation, an urban sprawl, and a strong vacancy and decay in the town center and in the Foch block. This diploma’s project seeks to address to the following issue at all scales : «How to rehabilitate a rural town district through a contextualised architecture that take advantage of local resources ?». We propose a reorganization of the block around a form of rural public space, the couderc. The latter, by its contemporary reinterpretation, allows the inhabitants to be associated with a quality landscaped outdoor space. This space and its constitution are likely to be a source of social dynamics and initiatives. This new couderc is also part of an urban network of movement and green space and thus connects the block to the territory.

Community spaces between a pavilion and a garden hut.
Vegetable gardening space : Expenses reduction and social, educational and environmental activity.
Landscaped ditch :
Space of biodiversity changing with the rainfall, peaceful walk.
Pathway network :
Link the center of the block to the rest of Ambert through movement.
Rammed earth walls :
Enhance a local heritage and organize the space.
Contemporary communal pasture : The center of the block is reorganized by reinterpreting the characteristics of a village public space, while integrating contemporary issues.

Project of a building of short term rental flats, built with rammed earth and wooden frame.
This project offers short-term rental housing for executives in training. Architecturally, the units are set between rammed earth walls that distribute the space. The furnished interior spaces are complemented by loggias offering a large opening to the park and an adaptation to the seasons. Technically, the project meets Passiv’haus standards and is also a photovoltaic energy producer. Built in wood and rammed earth - for its inertia, hygrothermal comfort and materiality - it was necessary to think about a prefabrication of the rammed earth. 1. a

Project of terraced houses, rammed earth and wooden frame
This triplex terraced housing project represents the continuation of the previous one in terms of lifestyle. It is intended for people who have chosen to settle in Ambert. The terraced typology proposes a sobriety of land and new ways of living. Located on the other side of the block, the relationship to the street led us to propose a greenhouse space and a setback, allowing acoustic protection and the provision of light on the garden level. Constructively, the same principles are taken up. We have decided to work on the organization of the housing to allow it to be rearranged as its inhabitants evolve.

This Europan project connect with the themes developed during my final year project with similar context and problems. To the theme of «productive cities», our response is based on the development of the act of making, as a way to reappropriate the intrinsic qualities of this rural territory, to take advantage of the rhythms and temporalities specific to an environment outside of the territories subject to the acceleration of the globalization. The project wants to be political and critical, refusing to develop an extensive urbanism and on the contrary proposing to develop the tools allowing the inhabitants to reappropriate their city. The main actions were the creation of a workshop on an industrial wasteland, the restitution of the fairgrounds currently covered by cars, the developpment of a networks of parking and finaly a constellation of micro-projects to foster appropriation.
