The Evolution of Tagetik THE FOUNDER OF TAGETIK DISCUSSES THE EVOLUTION OF THIS FAST-GROWING COMPANY SPECIALIZED IN UNIFIED CPM SOLUTIONS Since it was founded, this company has evolved, grown and changed, all the while maintaining the same goal: to provide the best business solutions in the market of Corporate Performance Management (CPM). How did Tagetik get started? Tagetik is the realization of one of my dreams - to dedicate myself to business consulting for organization and logistics. In fact, Tagetik was founded in 1986 as a service provider called ‘Gruppo Servizi’, which offered consultancy services to companies through computer outsourcing, production organization and facility design. Each year, we have grown by listening to companies and finding personalized solutions to their · PROFILE

management problems. Our consulting service had to provide customized software solutions for our clients - this spurred the first stage of evolution - changing quickly from ‘Gruppo Servizi’ to ‘Tagetik.’ We chose to use the best technology on the market and develop the best CPM software to meet the needs of business management and control, while continuing to offer fully customized consultancy services tailored to fit business needs. Year after year, and client after client, we have become what are today. How is Tagetik today? ing in 22 countries through a network of qualified distributors and partners to serve more than 550 clients, yet it continues to be an independent, privately owned company. It is just what I dreamed and continues to be, as every day brings a new challenge. I am proud of the team we have created of young professionals and entrepreneurs who are successfully leading this rapid and expansive international development. This has been the second phase of our evolution, an exciting adventure which I have been able to experience from the helm. TAGETIK BEGAN TO OPERATE IN THREE LANGUAGES JUST FIVE YEARS AGO; TODAY, I CAN’T EVEN COUNT THEM ALL. FROM BUENOS AIRES TO DUBAI, FROM NEW YORK TO SHANGHAI, FROM SYDNEY TO PARIS, FROM CAPE TOWN TO OSLO. How much of the company’s DNA is still present today? Without a doubt, the team spirit has been with us all along, and I think that is worth a lot in a company like ours that has more than 300 employees. Everyone knows each other, managers and technicians went to college · PROFILE

together, colleagues vacation together with their families...It’s the part of our DNA that gives us strength because if there are problems, they are identified immediately and then we work together to find the solution. Is it true that this feeling of “family” extends to clients? Those who choose Tagetik choose to become part of our extended family, and not just in words. EMPLOYEES, PARTNERS AND CUSTOMERS ARE OUR ALLIES AND ARE IMMEDIATELY FOLDED INTO THIS ENTHUSIASTIC ATMOSPHERE WHERE WE WORK WITH PASSION. Our customers - large and small - become part of the Tagetik family. What is the advantage of your products? The difference lies in the fact that Tagetik doesn’t simply sell software. Tagetik sells solutions developed with our extensive management consulting experience. Our product is unique in the CPM market, innovative because it’s the first multi-plat-

form solution capable of unifying financial processes through built-in features and components - a true advantage in terms of immediacy of implementation, reduced cost of integration and maintenance, in addition to complete financial abilities and skills. But it’s not just the product that makes the difference; it’s our ‘empathy’ with the client. We call it “Performance with Passion” and it means that we aim to share our passion, values and · PROFILE

culture even before the strategy for doing business together. Are you amazed by how far the company is moving beyond Lucca? Yes, but we always come back to Lucca. It is our city and we are very proud to live in a place where music, architecture and art reign. We like to think that Lucca has been the home of CPM for over 25 years now. This

is why, looking to the future, we are launching an exciting new project. Lucca will become the home of a laboratory dedicated to the new challenges facing administration, finance and control: we call it Doria House Lab. ‘Doria’ because the hub will be in a beautiful Tuscan villa on Lucca’s hillside named Villa Doria. ‘House’ because it is truly our home, a place to make friends, share experiences and find new solutions. ‘Lab’ because it will

be the Tagetik workshop where we will experiment with new solutions. Who knows? Maybe this will mark another stage in our evolution as we are always more determined to overcome the challenges in this global market.

Reporting in the Recession

THE GAME IS HARDER, YET THE BAR IS HIGHER We all know the refrain: times are tough, budgets are low, expectations are high. Since demand is consistently weaker, CEOs worldwide plan their growth through product innovation, entry into new markets, pricing or marketing strategies. The time when market growth itself was a key factor in company development is definitively over. Today, industries grow because they choose the right strategy, and because they implement it correctly. Now, performing on average may simply not be enough. For many industries across the globe, the bar has been significantly raised. With less scope for borrowing, and sometimes tighter margins, we have all become leaner, faster, and · GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

more efficient. There was a time when being the top performer in one’s field was an aspiration. Now, it may be the only recipe for survival. This is why benchmarking has changed, from what was essentially a marketing tool, to a now solid instrument for planning and budgeting. Knowing what top performers actually do provides an answer to questions that always come with growing needs and expectations: just how far can I go? Where do my aspirations become unrealistic and, therefore, unachievable? One of the areas which has been most affected by the need for speed is, of course, finance and reporting. With management across the board hungry for information, and shareholders and markets

even hungrier, finance departments have developed new and better reporting skills. The turnaround of monthly and quarterly figures has decreased significantly. This is not only a matter of cost. It is sometimes the only way for management to make the right choices, based on the correct information, before it becomes too late. It is a means to outline all the opportunities before they disappear. And to flag all the sensitivities, before they hit too hard. There is, however, a catch: the need for faster and better reporting cannot be met by simply throwing more resources into finance departments. Because that would hit the budget, and the budget, we all know, is leaner than ever.

This seems like a paradox. Strangely enough, it isn’t. The top performers often have the fastest reporting times – and the lowest cost, both in terms of percentage over turnover, and number of employees. Which means that – one way or another – systems and processes are a significant part of the equation. 4% 3%

Tagetik perspective THESE ARE TIMES WHEN AVERAGE PERFORMANCE MAY SIMPLY NOT BE ENOUGH. THAT IS WHY BENCHMARKING IS NOW MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER.

Tagetik has purchased the rights to distribute key finance organization benchmarks compiled by the research and benchmarking firm, APQC (www. apqc.org) across four different annual revenue ranges: greater than $20B; $10-20B; $2-10B; and $500M-2B in annual turnover. The metrics include costs, cycle times, and resources specific to the Office of Finance, such as financial and management reporting, annual planning, consolidated financial statements production, and quarterly/annual earnings disclosure. The metrics show the difference between top performers and bottom performers and Tagetik has developed a free Excel Calculator to help businesses determine how they compare to their peers, the financial impact of their position compared to top performers and where they have the greatest room for improvement.

Ringier is Switzerland’s largest internationally active media corporation. On a global scale, growth in the IT industry should average a modest 2.5%, as it is forecasted that worldwide enterprise spending will reach $2.679 trillion in 2013 according to Gartner, Inc. the world's leading information technology research and advisory company, but it is anticipated that growth in Asia will be much more significant. This year spending on IT in Asia Pacific is expected to rise by nearly 8% from 2012, reaching US$743 billion. Generally, increased spending will likely be seen throughout the segment - including devices, software, data center systems, IT services and telecom services. Much of this growth, in countries like India and China, is driven by the fast-paced evolution of smart devices, including smartphones and tablets, and fueled by the rising amount of data that companies must be tracked, recorded and stored. · GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

“AS GLOBAL MARKETS IMPROVE IN 2013 AND RESUME GROWTH, ASIA PACIFIC REMAINS ONE OF THE BRIGHT SPOTS OF THE GLOBAL IT MARKET, ALLOWING ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS REGION TO ACCELERATE COMPETITIVENESS,” SAID PETER SONDERGAARD, SENIOR VICE-PRESIDENT AND GLOBAL HEAD OF RESEARCH AT GARTNER. “ORGANIZATIONS IN ASIA PACIFIC WILL BE ABLE TO INNOVATE AND

COMPETE USING WHAT WE CALL THE NEXUS OF FORCES, OR THE INTERSECTION OF CLOUD, MOBILE, SOCIAL AND INFORMATION. NEW BUSINESS MODELS WILL EMERGE IN THIS REGION.” In particular, Gartner predicts that spending on software in this area should rise by 11.9% from last year to a total of $33.9 billion. In developed regions, demand is increasing for public cloud computing, according to Hai Hong Swineheart, research analyst at Gartner, while the focus in Asia Pacific, and throughout the emerging market, is private cloud computing because of persistent concerns related to data security. Also, a large-scale survey conducted by CRM Innovation last year shows that about one-third of organizations in the Asia Pacific area plan to increase their budget for hosted applications.

Road to Success in China WE INTERVIEWED ANGELA YAN, A PARTNER AT EPM VENUS, WHICH PROVIDES END-TO-END MANAGERIAL FINANCE AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SERVICES, AND IS TAGETIK’S DISTRIBUTOR IN CHINA. What’s your opinion of Chinese economic and financial trends? A hot topic anywhere these days is economic growth in China. Given the fact that China is a big country with a large population, in my opinion the Chinese economy is entering a new, steadier stage of GDP growth with increased competition that is standardized and more closely regulated. This winery may use traditional harvesting methods, but it is anything but aged. Founded in 1983, Le Macchiole was one of the first to produce wine in the area - about 100 km southwest of Florence and 5 km from the Mediterranean coast which quickly became labeled ‘home of the Super Tuscan.’ The owner, Cinzia Merli, along with her brother and Luca D’Attoma, the chief winemaker, have made some drastic decisions that are changing the face of the area and Italian wines. With continual development in the vineyards and in the cellars, they have brought innovation to an age-old art, producing a 100% Cabernet Franc wine. The Paleo Rosso has not only become the winery’s signature label, but it is now a benchmark for wines of this kind.

Le Macchiole is run by a closeknit team of eight with the philosophy of “expressing the unique qualities of each grape variety, one at a time.” The vineyard covers 22 hectares of land and the dedicated staff pour nearly 500 hours of work into each hectare per year. They use organic farming methods in the vineyards to ensure sustainable winegrowing and, from pruning to harvesting, all processes are carried out by hand. The fruits of their labour - 150,000 bottles distributed to 60 countries around the world and an unforgettable flavor that has made a world-famous brand.

PONZA The largest island in the Pontine archipelago - the remains of an ancient volcano that gave birth to these specks of land afloat in the Tyrrehenian Sea - Ponza is a fishing village, with a population of just over 3,000, turned quaint tourist attraction. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and blue water, which the locals say is so clear “you can drink it,” the island just spans 7.3 sq. km. of surface area and can only be reached by boat or ferry. Ruins dotting the land are testimony of its rich history that stretches back to the Etruscan period and this volcanic paradise also served as a place for Roman exiles at the height of the Empire. The 22km coastline have spectacular forms and colorful hues that range from white to black and everything in between bright yellow, grey, red, orange... Highlights include the large, rocky beach called the Half Moon Beach (Chiaia di Luna) and its famous blue grottoes. Ponza is the ultimate combination of island beauty and the quaint character of village life.

VENTOTENE Also part of the Pontine Island chain is Ventotene, which is named for the prevailing wind (vento in Italian) that rushes across the island. Located just 28 miles from Formia and 40 from Naples, it can be easily reached by ferry. The first thing that hits you when you arrive here is the old port built in the 1st century A.D. by Romans and the arches carved into the cliffs. You enter the town through a beautiful series of ramps, built by the Bourbons (circa 1769) when the island was colonized, that lead to the main square and the Bourbon church of Santa Candida completed in 1774. Ventotene has a colorful past, having served as a prison for opponents of the Roman Empire and Mussolini’s regime and it also played an important role in World War II. Today, this small island, only 3km long, situated off the shore of the Campania region, is home to less than 800 permanent residents and can only be reached by water.

EVENT

FERRIES TO BOTH PONZA AND VENTOTENE DEPART REGULARLY FROM FORMIA, ANZIO AND NAPLES (DURING THE SUMMER). PONZA Most of island life on Ponza revolves around the port, which everyone refers to as Porto. To see the sights beyond this, it’s best to travel by bus or boat to reach the swimming coves of Cala Feola and the Piscine Naturali, or the tiny village of Le Forna. Other points of interest include the Botanical Garden, Capo Bianco a natural national monument and the numerous beaches and natural and Roman-built grottoes.

This island is best traveled by foot as cars are limited and traffic is very restricted. Walking is also the best way to visit the beautiful Roman ruins, including Villa Giulia and Villa Stefania, a 30,000 sq. m. residence for the exiled family members of Augustus that dates back to the 1st century A.D. and the Peschiera Romana where the Romans cultivated seafood reserved for elaborate banquets. Other highlights include the castle, the Museo Archeologico, the Porto Romano and the museum of bird migration. · BEL PAESE
