In these pages I have picked the path that has characterized my professional maturation until now. I do not mean to show only the result of my works but also the various concepts learned to get the results. My preparation consists of concepts that range from the design of a residential complex based on the concept of social housing to the design of a private residence.

SOCIAL HOUSING Terni_Umbria_Italy 2013

The scale of the project is very large and the theme is not only residential, but social housing. It’s necessary to design housing surrounded and

entered into a series of services that promote community life and being together. The accommodation must meet the needs of young

users, couples, students, seniors and relate to public space.

The concept of social in this project is considered in a different way than how it is usually considered in Italy. Here the social is not an economic factor, but outlines a way of living and

relating with other people, typical of northern Europe. Many services are available to those who live in the residences and there are two different spaces that communicate with each other, one semi-private

patio between the type and the line, and another semipublic on the street front. Connection by the balcony promote the common life.

The main feature of the accommodation is the relationship between interior space and exterior space. In fact, every home has a balcony, large terrace or garden on the ground floor.

On the top floor of the row houses, as well as a shortage of housing, have been designed for common areas (reading room and kitchen) with spacious outdoor environments.

Horizontal and vertical connections are, in all cases, elements structurally distinct with respect to the housing to minimize the possibility of thermal bridges.

CONSERVATIVE RESTORATION

Roma_via Appia Antica Italy 2013 The draft recovery and conservative restoration of the tomb with a statue “togata in Via Appia Antica required considerable

historical research of the archaeological site, reliefs of the artifact in a state of decay and research of construction materials and

ways to bring them back to their original state. At first it was necessary to clean the site in order to proceed with the survey

operations through trilaterations and photograph that aided in the performance of the materials on paper Numerous drawings from life have been helpful to know in a more direct way the object under examination. In the design phase after consolidating all parts and materials, and damaged the tomb bringing the original quota by an excavation and the use of some embankments CORTEN, it was necessary to provide drainage of rainwater that flooded in rainy days the base of the monument and the containment of weeds.

CONSERVATIVE RESTORATION AND REUSE

Roma_via Appia Antica Italy 2013

In this project was crucial phase of external relief (made only in part with trilateration and then with the use of a software for straightening photo) and internal.

The client required a reception and information point, a small garden always within the original structure that could be a resting place for the tourists of the via Appia Antica and a small

exhibition hall. The intent was to leave unchanged the actual status of the tank while preserving obviously deteriorating. This has necessitated the reconstruction of a model

on the cover of the original (a medieval truss) with modern materials.

RESTORATION

Roma_Opera Balilla Italy 2013 T h e i n t e r ve n t i o n consists in a change of use. The original gym Opera Balilla only part of the

river Tiber has retained its function, while the rest has been converted into a restaurant. The purpose of the

project is to bring the entire gym to its original state by giving space to facilitate more sports practiced in Fascist age.

For this work were provided surveys of the structure so it was more important to focus on the different materials present externally to investigate restoration techniques and bring

them back to their original state. From prospects we can see how different the various types of plasters and materials.

The restaurant on the ground floor has been eliminated and the two adjacent structures were unified, creating a fencing room and a living room with two rings for the box and for the greek-roman fight. The dining room on the first floor has been converted into a gallery to assist in the training of different disciplines, the kitchen and the bar in wardrobe and dressing rooms for the athletes. The second basement floor, at the same level of the Tiber, was equipped with 2 lanes of 25 m each for swimming useful to cool down after the workout done on the ground floor.

SUSTAINABILITY

Solar Decathlon Europe Madrid 2012 The project is based on the regulation of the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 , held in Madrid, and has to

meet in an economic and functional the energy needs of a home by paying attention to what are the

hot climatic conditions of that latitude , the modest size that housing must have ( 45 sqm ) , ease of assembly

and transport of all necessary components ( structural and non) and the maximum comfort. It was decided to use a completely wooden xlam with a good coating of insulation that allows for excellent transmittance value and the exploitation of the temperature outside hot inside during the cooler night hours . The patio tree with deciduous trees to the south actively participates in the thermal comfort of the home as well as being a symbol of vernacular Mediterranean . The rooms open onto a small garden making the most of the light. Several openings banked on cooler slopes (north and east ) favor natural ventilation that provides comfort to those who live in this house. The master bedroom has a height lower than the other environments and to create a more comfortable space in order to obtain both coverage needed for the various devices useful for the proper functioning of the house.

The roof is covered with a metal cover that incorporates solar panels and solar thermal systems for domestic hot water. In particular, on the highest part of the house are solar panels on the bedroom and a solar thermal panel thickness greater than the previous one, but with less size. The blue coating metal also performs the function of protecting the floor from direct sunlight, creating a thickness of air and reducing the overheating of the cover. The element protrudes above south to protect the living room window from the sun in the summer hours most irradiated. For solar radiation coming from the west house wall using a wooden sliding sunshades. The entire structure is elevated from the ground through supports of concrete and steel.

The colors mostly clear reflect those typical of vernacular architecture of the Mediterranean. Unlike these, the structure is not in masonry because it will

take longer for the implementation and completion of the work. During the design has been paid much attention to the aspects of lighting and select the

most appropriate light sources according to the different spaces in which they are used.

WORKSHOP C.A.S.A.

Sibari_Calabria_Italy 2012 The workshop was aimed at testing construction t e c h n i q u e s fo r t h e construction of a home

crafts in Cerro, Guatemala. The materials chosen, low cost and at 0 km, simplify construction. In particular,

we used the technique of raw land for the walls and a wood cabinet and sheet metal to protect the earth

from the frequent rains in Guatemala. We initially chose the right mix of earth, clay and sand. During the workshop was a prototype of the structure of the House of Crafts in 1:1 scale.

PUBLIC

Muratella_Roma_Italy 2012 The project is based on the regulation of the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 , held in Madrid, and has to

The design of a kindergarten is for a public use facility that caters to a particular

type of user: children. Most of the spaces and furniture must meet the needs of small and need

to be specialized for all activities that they host. The project consists of a comb type that generates 6 different hexagonal cells, each of which has a specific function. These environments are joined by a structure always hexagonal mesh, but with dimensions and lower portion which performs the function of common space and distribution. The structure takes advantage of the roof covering as practicable, inspiration, fun and educational for users who interact with the trees present in the 2 patios.

The plan clarifies the different scale of the project as compared to the previous one. Moreover, we distinguish the different functions of individual hexagonal cells and other specialized spaces: 1. entry 2. classroom 3. toilets for children 4. wardrobe for children 5. patio with trees 5. secretariat 7. bureau 8. meeting room 9. cloakroom and toilets for staff 10. canteen 11. kitchen 12. laboratory 13. terrace of workshops 14. parking for staff 15. play area for children 16. teaching garden 17. fruit trees 18. small forest 19. driveway area for the kitchen 20. secondary access for staff

During the design has been paid particular attention to the structure of classrooms and retail spaces with the use of wood and metal. The hexagonal shape of the environments is repeated in the highest section of the central pillars of wood which are joined (by metallic elements) 6 rectangular section beams that are attached to the opposite side circular pillars.

The space distribution, lower, has a structure with trellis (always in wood) that serves anyway of hexagonal pillars to give greater strength to the obtuse angles imposed by the geometry of the elements.
