Love for the Sake of Love by Richard Paul Evans book The Letter Love, for the sake of love, will always be enough. And if our lives are but a single flash in the dark hollow of eternity, then, if, but for the briefest of moments, we shine--then how brilliantly our light has burned. And as the starlight knows no boundary of space or time, so, too, our illumination will shine forth throughout all eternity, for darkness has no power to quell such light. And this is a lesson we must all learn and take to heart--that all light is eternal and all love is light. And it must forever be so.

Spring is here! I see all the new flowers blooming and I'm looking forward to the rainstorms in the afternoon making our grass turn green again. My kids are now on Spring Break and we plan to enjoy the time off together doing some Staycation ideas from last month. My son Jake has started his travel basketball and we went to his first tournament, Spring Explosionfest. Lizzie learned to ride her bike without training wheels and now wants to ride every day. Whether they have Irish ancestors or not, many people just like a good celebration. But, did you know that 70 million people around the world claim Irish ancestry? And there are seven times as many Americans with Irish Ancestry than there are people in all of Ireland! My husband and I both have ancestors from Ireland so we are very interested in travelling there and researching our family genealogies. If you know your Irish ancestors’ last names, the Irish Times Ancestor Surnames site, http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ has a wealth of information. Today, 5/6 of Ireland is the Republic of Ireland; while the rest of the island, Northern Ireland, remains part of Great Britain. The Republic of Ireland uses the Euro as its currency, and Northern Island uses the British pound. Travel between the two is open at the borders, and one need carry only your passport. You can see a lot of countryside by car, plus you have the advantage of stopping whenever you want. Bus and train are also good ways to travel. It’s less expensive to stay in B & B’s, and there are two excellent sites to find them. 2. The BnB Network site at http://www.bnb-network.ie/ has accommodations car rentals, and more. AirBnB at www.airbnb.com has places to rent from people in over 34,000 cities and 192 countries. Eating at pubs, fast food restaurants, or buying your own groceries is considerably cheaper than restaurant fare; but make sure you splurge sometimes for some excellent local food and atmosphere. There are plenty of opportunities to get out in the majestic countryside and explore on foot. Ireland’s National Trails Office has a complete website listing trails in all counties at http://www.irishtrails.ie/. And finally, Jump into Ireland, Ireland’s official tourism site at www.ireland.com/‎, should get you started in planning your trip to the Emerald Isle!

Irish Sausage Coddle Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone! I always make corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day, but found this delicious recipe on All Recipes.com and it had rave reviews! I’m going to try next year (or maybe soon---it looks so good)! Rather than corned beef, it uses pork sausage and smoked bacon. And it is a traditional Irish meal! Paired with the Irish Soda Bread recipe I found and used this year, it should be a welcome change.

Health & Wellness Q: How can I become more successful?

1 pound pork sausage links 1/2 pound smoked bacon, cubed 2 onions, thinly sliced 3 carrots, chopped 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced 1 teaspoon dried parsley 1 cup beef stock 1-1/2 cups Irish stout beer 1/2 c. heavy cream Salt and pepper to taste

Directions 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. 2. Put sausages and bacon in a large skillet on medium heat and cook about 10 minutes until sausages are browned on both sides. Slice sausages into large chunks and set sausages and bacon aside. 3. Layer 1/3 of the onions in 9x13” baking dish, then add a layer of 1/3 of the carrots and sliced potatoes. 4. Place a layer of 1/3 of the sausage and bacon over the potatoes; sprinkle with salt, pepper, and parsley. Then repeat layers two more times. 5. Warm beef stock in saucepan on medium, then pour in the stout beer and cream. 6. Pour the sauce over the casserole, letting sauce fill in between the layers. 7. Bake in preheated oven until potatoes and vegetables are tender---about 1-1/2 hours. Serves 8.

A: Simple Things DO Matter The concept that little things matter is a somewhat basic idea. When you face a choice, you can take a simple positive action. Or you can take a simple negative action. Simple actions, repeated over time, will determine the life you will lead. Every day, every hour, every moment of your life, you face a choice. People who feel successful and those who don't feel that way do so because of the little choices they make about what they think, say, and do. The little things that lead to success are easy to do, and easy not to do. They can be as simple as being impeccable with your word, having a positive mental attitude, and always doing your best. The steps can be very small -- as small as choosing a different response in the moment. You will find that small actions compound over time. For example, if you exercise for an hour a day, you won't see much difference after a couple of days or even a week. But after a couple of months you will notice a big difference. A little effort each day will result in huge rewards over time. If you read just ten pages of a good book every day, it might not seem like a lot. But after one year, you will have read more than two dozen 150-page books! It is the same with learning another language, playing a musical instrument, or improving at a sport. A little practice each day will result in huge rewards over time.

by Cheryl Flothe Each day I see or hear of so many people making a difference in the lives of others. I thought, “One person can make a difference!” Then I saw this wonderful quote by John F. Kennedy and knew I was in good company.

Thomas Alva Edison Recently we toured the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Ft. Meyers, Florida and since then I’ve been reading about Thomas Alva Edison. He really made a difference! Imagine bringing lights to the world when so many were living by candle and lamplight!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther King, Jr. never gave up! He showed people that nonviolent protests could bring people together to stand against racial inequality and predjudice. After winning the Nobel Prize for his efforts in the civil rights movement, he donated the proceeds of his winnings to the cause. His I Have a Dream speech never ceases to inspire me. MLK made a huge difference in the lives of so many and brought social justice to a large part of our society.

Malala Yousafzai Malala Yousafzai, a young Pakistani girl, spoke out against the Taliban in favor of girls’ rights to education. In the face of physical threats against her from the Taliban, and after she was almost killed by them, she continues to live and talk around the world about the importance of educating girls. Malala is making a difference in the lives of young girls and women around the world!

My grandkids love being on a basketball league!

Learning and competing in basketball is fun, good exercise, and a great family activity. And where would the league be without the Volunteer Coaches who take time out of their lives driving to and from practices and games because they want to help the kids learn the fundamentals of basketball? It’s brought so much into our grandkids’ lives and the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of other young people and their families. These coaches are making a difference. These are but a few of the millions who have made a difference. We can all make a difference in the lives of others every day---even on a small scale: A simple “thank you” lets people know they’re appreciated; wear a smile rather than a frown---you never know who you might cheer up; help someone in need, if only to carry their groceries into the house, mow their lawn, or other small chores; or lend an ear to someone who’s going through difficult times.

Think about it---you, too, can be that one person who makes a difference in someone else’s life!

Died: May 12, 2008 (aged 98) Warsaw, Poland During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive. Irena smuggled Jewish infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried. She also carried a burlap sack in the back of her truck for larger kids. Irena kept a dog in the back of her truck that she had trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking which covered the kids/infants noises. During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. Ultimately, she was caught, however, and the Nazi's broke both of her legs and arms and beat her severely.

I've never put a message in a bottle but I think one day I'll have to do that and throw it in the ocean. What will I say? Perhaps a meaningful quote and share a few moments of my life experiences.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she had smuggled out in a glass jar that she buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and tried to reunite the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.

I love the chapter when she went around the world and was in Italy waiting to connect with someone and then realized it was herself that she needed to be with. Sometimes we just need to take time out for ourselves.

She went to Buenas Aires, Argentina with her husband and met a lovely couple, Marcello and Silvina. It was clear that creating goals and working toward them together was one of the greatest gifts of their marriage. Two minds instead of one and four hands instead of two. Another of the tips was tending to your spouse's needs and dreams as part of your day-to-day life. It begins to come natural to you and you don't have to think about it much. Nor do you expect anything in return for your giving. The obvious beauty of that approach is that if both spouses adopt this approach, both receive in good measure and give selflessly. It's a good economy. One wife, Kristine Carlson, shared how she chose to listen with her heart and let her heart receive what her husband's poured out. In other words, they really connected because she put her own reactions and retaliations aside. She found an overwhelming place of love in a difficult moment when it could have been hard to find. From that day forward, she would always listen heart-toheart. She would make sure her heart remained open to her husband's and would never allow momentary disagreements to close it. Fawn discovered the theme throughout all her interviews and journey around the world was that Happiness is a Choice.

I found the Happy Wives Club once while surfing online and liked them on Facebook, as I thought the website was a great resource for women looking to have happy marriages. Then I lost the site and hadn't been back in quite some time. Recently, I was given the opportunity from BookLook Bloggers to review a book by Fawn Weaver about the Happy Wives Club. It was a story about one woman's worldwide search for the secrets of a great marriage. I went to her website and laughed at how life works and that I'd found her site again. The first few chapters talked about how Fawn created her club and the reason behind the idea. She wanted to provide a resource for women to support each other and help figure out how to keep a loving relationship going. Her journey began in her state of California and she met with an elderly woman that she had only met via the internet. She was cautious at first with her meeting. I know exactly how she feels as sometimes I do home visits for my Nursing career or Client meetings and I don't know the people, but I press on and meet them. I'm always thankful for how kind and nice everyone has been.

If you've never been to The Clay Place, the grounds are filled with gardens and old-growth trees forming a canopy which enhances Rice's pottery ranging from whimsical to the monumental.

His repertoire of functional works includes place settings of dishes, serving bowls, and decorative pieces highlighted by his lively fish platters which are oven, dishwasher, and microwave safe. Although most noted for her vivid oil paintings, she has admirably proved her hand at drawing, photography, print-making, asseblage sculpture, and carpentry.

After I got some refreshments I began my journey around the property. My first stop was to see this great canvas and art brushes in the above photo that caught my eye. The artist, Phil Fisher, works predominately in oil & watercolors and is commonly seen painting throughout the Naples area. His award-winning seaside images both soothe and stimulate viewers around the world. “I like to think of my paintings as sanctuary for those whom feel anesthetized by technology.” www.philfisherfineart.com I then moved to Natalie Guess' booth and was very impressed with her use of the fine art of batik. She has been teaching this type of art for over 35 years. She and her husband, artist Phil Fisher, own Guess-Fisher Gallery. www.natalieguess.com I was stopped by some guests and asked to take their photo. They all looked so cheerful and happy to be at this art show. The last artist at the end of the row was Jeff Fessenden. He does mural and

trompe l'oel, humor and caricature, fine art, and is an accomplished musician. He selects his medium depending on the needs of the individual project. www.fezzart.com As I finished my route along the path of artists I ended at Paul Arsenault's showcase. When I saw him he was explaining one of his paintings to a guest.

“My goal as a painter has always been to capture an essence with new eyes, even if it is a familiar scene,” Paul says. His work is a celebration of simple things, of the everyday and often overlooked elements of a place. He has traveled throughout the world capturing the heart and soul of rapidly changing communities. www.arsenaultgallery.com One of the things I noticed throughout the show was how delighted everyone was to be browsing and mingling with friends and it was a great celebration. My son recently asked if we could have a family talent show. We now have one scheduled and since I want to sing a song I found a few cool apps, Sing Sharp and The Voice, to help with my vocals. My eldest son doesn't want to join us in the talent show but maybe I can get him to use this new OSnap! Lite app that allows you to do claymation. I was recently at Boston Market and they had some beautiful black and white photos with just a touch of color. I found this great app Color Effects that can capture this effect, and also ArtinLight can do some additional sweet features. A few fun apps that everyone should add to their list are Covet for the Fashionista, Free Fall for Frozen Fans, FridgePoems for the poet in you, and Origami to express your artist side. Enjoy your app time!
