My daughter and I went to Immokalee with my good friend, Mary Wiggins. We volunteered to help put together 1400 backpacks for kids, putting happy notes in each one. Thanks to Women of Vision SWFL and so many others for their commitment to helping support those children in need. My boys ended their summer session of basketball with SWFL Basketball league and they were both in the championship games. It's fun to watch their dedication and determination with the sport they love. The kids are all back in school now and I have eight hours to fill my day with projects. I miss them with me, but I know they are going to learn so much from the wonderful teachers this year! This month's giveaway is from YOYO LipGloss and Dermagist. Please make sure to visit the Giveaway section on our website for more details. Too often you find items hanging in your closet that seemed like a good idea, but turned into a one hit wonder, or even worse a never worn wonder! Use these tips the next time you go shopping to ensure what you buy will be things you love to wear again and again.
1. Calculate an item's cost per wear. Divide the cost of an item by the minimum number of times you think you can wear it to determine it’s cost per wear. A $100 jacket you wear 10 times has a cost per wear of $10. Versus a blouse you find on sale for $30 and only wear once has a cost per wear of $30. The jacket is actually the better investment.
Source:http://pinterest.com/pin/161214861634373857/
2. Ask yourself how you want to feel.
4. Know what you need.
Seriously, ask yourself: If everyday you want to feel confident, put-together, and fun (insert your own words) then whatever you buy needs to help you accomplish that.
Sure there are plenty of things you don’t need when it comes to what you wear. However, before you purchase something ask yourself if it will help you fill a void in your wardrobe. If every morning before work you wish you had a shoe that felt stylish and professional, purchase that before an evening shoe you’ll wear only at the next wedding you’re invited to.
3. Be excited. If you’re not excited about something, put it back. The clothes you wear first are the ones you’re excited about. Imagine having an entire closet that you’re excited to wear. Getting dressed would be a breeze.
x
5. Create a wardrobe budget. Setting a budget helps you make smart buying decisions and most importantly will help you prioritize what you need.

by Cheryl Flothe The train was roomy and After six glorious days in Paris, we comfortable. were eager to continue our journey to London. Countryside, farms, and small villages flashed by our window on a three hour trip aboard the Eurostar from Paris to London. We were excited to pass through the famed Chunnel (the tunnel under the English Channel between France and London). As soon as we arrived in London, we pulled our rolling suitcases right to Garfunkel’s for a burger! Walking to our hotel we were in awe of our surroundings. Everything was so--British!!! We were in a bit of culture shock going from Parisian to English culture in such a short time. The Royal Sussex Hotel was tucked between other units in a big building in the Hyde Park area. From there, London was accessible to us by foot, bus, and subway (nicknamed The Tube). After checking into the hotel we hopped on a red double decker city tour bus. The driver’s microphone blared out the highlights: “Hyde Park, Harrod’s (the biggest department store in Europe), Big Ben.” And, “Now we’re driving on the Tower Bridge over the River Thames, and there’s Buckingham Palace in the distance!” On our walks we came within feet of a black swan gliding soundlessly on a pond by a storybook cottage in James’s Park. We wondered why a statue of Abraham Lincoln was there, and were amazed to see the Queen’s Horse Guards near St. James’s Palace. We even posed with one of the unsmiling guards! As we walked to the famed Big Ben clock and Westminister Abbey, we were careful to “look right” for merging traffic. Backwards from the U.S.!

Our tour of The Tower of London Palace was definitely a high point of the London experience. So much history---the site has been a fortress for kings and queens since 1066! The Crown Jewels, a collection of royal armor and weaponry, and even the king’s living quarters can be seen on the tour. A cool travel tip I just discovered will save you $. Rather than buying a one palace tour, buy an annual pass. You can see five palaces for the cost of two! It’s even less expensive if you buy a couples’ pass. You can also check into other multi-day passes, such as The London Pass, for more cost savings.

Stonehenge, one of the world's most historic sites.
On our last day in London, we took a bus trip through the peaceful English countryside to the ancient city of Bath where the Romans built therapeutic baths and the wealthy of later years came to be Bath Abbey on a drizzly day. seen. Notables such as Jane Austin and Charles Dickens frequented the city. Stonehenge had a mystical feel about it. No one knows why Stonehenge was built, but we could picture ancient people walking about with hooded capes and candles. A strong cup of English coffee got us going early the day we flew home from England. As our driver weaved in and out of traffic, then cruised down the freeway toward Gatwick Airport, we soaked up our last sights of England: sculls rowing down a river, soccer fields, English homes, magnificent old churches, and Windsor Castle in the distance. Our stay was much too short, but was enough to give us plenty of memories of our first trip to Europe.

heart. Now she needs his help—and he’ll give it, because he owes her far more than she’ll ever know. Madison will do anything—even work with the infamous Beckett O’Reilly —to reach her goal. And as much as she’d like to deny it, the chemistry between them is electrifying. As summer wanes, her feelings for him grow and a fledgling faith takes root in her heart.
by Nicole Flothe
But Beckett harbors a secret that will test the limits of their new love. Can their romance survive summer’s challenges? And will achieving her brother’s dream give Madison the peace she desperately seeks?
I was given the opportunity to review Barefoot Summer, a romance novel from Booksneeze. I loved the title. It fit perfectly as I was looking for a good romance while I enjoyed my summer holiday.
I loved being able to read the book on my iPhone and using the bookmark feature along with the highlights. One of the things I like to highlight is wherever the author uses the word heart. Here is one that I loved:
Here is the book description:
Her mom gave her a long, knowing look. The kind that made Madison realize that she could shutter off her heart to the outside world, but Mom would still see right through.
Madison’s heart has been closed for years. But one summer can change everything. In the years since her twin brother’s drowning, Madison McKinley has struggled to put it behind her. Despite the support of her close-knit family and her gratifying job as a veterinarian in their riverside town, the loss still haunts her. To find closure, Madison sets out to fulfill her brother’s dream of winning the town’s annual regatta. But first she has to learn to sail, and fast.
I think most of us could relate to the story, throughout the book you learn how her brother died and why she had so many relationship issues. Her mother was a great influence and I seemed to highlight what she said a lot.
Her mom's words from earlier in the summer came back, "You've always been afraid of feeling, Madison. Sometimes those negative feelings are so strong, they're overwhelming, and it's easier to just not deal with them." I was rooting for Madison to be brave and courageous during her struggles. She had trouble sleeping, learning a new skill, being in love and making decisions that would benefit her life.
God knew her heart. You can do this, Madison. Be brave. Give me courage, God. If you're looking for your next great romance novel and a heartfelt story, make sure you add this one to your list!
When I was growing up my parents would send us to my grandparents house for the summer. We took sailing lessons at the yacht club and when Madison was learning to sail it brought back a lot of memories for me. I really enjoyed the times she took pets to the nursing homes.
"Animals make people happy. Besides, I like the folks here. Beckett O’Reilly knows Madison Older people are storehouses of wisdom. It's too bad people is out of his league, but someone neglected to tell his forget that."

Health & Wellness Q: What Foods Will Help Burn Fat?
Fish is also very good for quick weight loss. Fish such as salmon and tuna contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids fall in the category of ‘good fats’ or unsaturated fats. You gained weight because of a hormone called leptin which stores fat inside your body. Omega-3 fatty acids will cut down on leptin; when that happens, you WILL lose weight! 2. Olive oil: Replace your fatty oil with olive oil. Olive oil is almost free from the ‘bad fats’ (saturated fats) and contains a considerable amount of unsaturated fats. These unsaturated fats will not only suppress your appetite, but also fight cholesterol. In short, olive oil will keep your cholesterol levels down. 3. Berries: Berries are also good for weight loss. There are several types of berries: blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, etc. All of them will help you with weight loss in one way, or another. Strawberry is especially the best among the berries: not only does it taste good, but it also helps to suppress your appetite.
Less appetite = less food intake = less weight! A: Eat more lean meats, use olive oil and eat berries. How nice it would be if you could lose weight by eating, right? Well, you're about to get your wish. Sounds too good to be true? Well, just read this article to understand what I mean!
As you can see, just because you want to lose weight doesn’t mean that you have to starve. Many people tend to starve or follow crash diets, but nothing beats eating and losing weight. I firmly believe that if you eat the right foods, you will not only lose weight but also become healthy. Plus the foods I mentioned above are also rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
1. Lean meats: Lean chicken meat is one of the best weight loss foods you can ever have! Why? It contains a lot of protein and very little fat, and, as you know, protein will build lean muscles. Lean muscles will help you burn fat by accelerating your metabolic rate!
Remember: these are not the only weight loss super foods available to you. Other foods such as nuts, oatmeal, eggs, and almonds can help you with weight loss. Add these foods to your diet and see how quickly you are able to get rid of your belly fat!
If chicken proves to be too expensive for your pocket, try turkey breast. In any case, make sure you eat only lean meats and stay away from red meat!

My cousin Emily Doherty is such a sweet beautiful woman! It's been a few years since I've seen her but I keep up-to-date via Facebook. Recently her sister Tara posted some amazing photos of Emily. I was so impressed I had to ask if she wouldn't mind if I used one for the cover. I interviewed Emily in our July 2011 issue of The Heartbeat Magazine about her new love of woodcrafting. She made me this lovely handcrafted heart I've kept in my purse since our last visit. Anyone that could handcraft something so intricate and beautiful, in my opinion, thinks smart!
dant ousin, confi c , d n ie fr st er, be Beautiful sist Have you ever read the book, How Successful People Think by John C. Maxwell? He introduces the book by saying, The world's most successful people have one thing in common: they think differently from everyone else. Thinking is a discipline. If you want to be better at it, you've got to work at it Consider developing a thinking schedule like Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy, who sets aside a half day every two weeks, a whole day every month, and two or three full days every year. Figure out where you need to focus your energy, and then use the 80/20 rule Devote 80% of your energy to the most important 20% of your activities. Remember that you can't be everywhere, know everyone, and do everything. And avoid multitasking: it can cost you 40% efficiency. Smart thinkers expose themselves to different ideas and types of people They're also selective about spending most of their time with people who challenge them. Source: How Successful People Think

Austin Ervin wore his halo for 3 months to help with recovery after neck surgery.
NO HALO!! At 7:30 AM, August 5th, Austin woke up surrounded by about 15 doctors, nurses and techs! It was pretty scary for him and he had lots of anxiety. As soon as his halo was totally off, he stopped crying and had the biggest smile ever!
Austin gets his 1st bath in a real tub after four months of bed baths!
To read more visit BelieveAustin.com
The halo and vest weighed 4 lbs, which is a lot of weight for a little guy. As I sit here next to my beautiful, happy, strong, amazing little boy, I can see his head and chest again not all covered and obstructed by that medieval head device and his viking looking fur vest. When Austin used to asked me what is that on my head, I would say that it's you' halo because you're an angel and he would say it's my crown because he's the king and then he would smile and ask if I could paint it gold with diamonds. Kids are so cute!! I was in tears just seeing him all cleaned up. Austin is already asking for a haircut! It's much more manageable without the halo and vest. He'll be able to go through his rehab without that extra weight on his head and The halo gets its name from the metal ring that surrounds the head, chest. He can now start wearing his clothes again. He's like a new boy! He's doing really good this morning, I am really thankful for the halo brace. It which looks like an angel halo. was used to prevent Austin's neck and head from moving. It kept his neck in the correct position. This allowed his injured spinal column and ligaments to heal. It also helped support his neck muscles. This brace keeps your neck from moving forward, bending backward, and your head from turning. The halo brace allows you get out of bed and start moving sooner. With his condition he really needed to be out of bed and constantly moving as it keeps pressure sores, blood clots, and other health problems away. Being in this device after his spinal fusion gave us the opportunity to start rehab. It's very important to start rehab right away after getting stabilized. With Austin's injuries, from the very beginning he has proven the doctors wrong. They thought he was brain dead and could never move after his auto accident in Alaska. Well, he's not brain dead and he moves his feet. So I just want to say never give up! It's all medical opinions and no one Austin gets his 1st hair wash! knows except for God!!

HOMEMADE TURKEY BURGER PIZZA I’ve had and used my bread machine for over ten years. It’s not just a novelty---it saves time and effort in baking all sorts of breads and preparing dough for dinner and cinnamon rolls, pita bread, pizza crust and more. A few days ago, I used the bread machine to prepare the dough for the pizza I wanted to make for dinner. I simply loaded all the ingredients into the bread pan, put it in the bread machine, set it on the “dough” setting, and turned it on. One hour later, the dough was ready to roll out. All I had to do was add all the other ingredients for a delicious pizza. Bread Machine Pizza Crust Dough

Happy 1st Day to kids who started school this fall! We are thankful for our teachers and all their work to get this week underway! May this be a wonderful year for all!
Over the summer we shopped at the Nike outlet store for the kids' back to school shoes. It's amazing how fast they grow; next thing I know they've moved into a bigger size shoe. While I was browsing the store I found this sign with old shoes. What a great idea to recycle the shoes! Nike asks you to drop your old shoes in the bin below and they'll live on; remade into things like sport courts, bags, and even new shoes. They take any brand or condition of shoes.
