This is a fun makeover month here at Style With Lee! It’s been a blast helping clients from all over the country perfect their image in order to get the results they want. Pictured here is one of my fabulous clients in from Salt Lake City. She’s pictured here during her photo shoot so her image works for her, both in person and online. We spent two days perfecting her image so she will not only feel awesome, but get dressed with confidence and ease—EVERY DAY! Can you imagine what that would be like? It makes life a lot easier. There’s one secret to this that I’ll share with you now. You have to step outside the box. Sure, everyone says that. But in order to get a different result you can’t keep doing the same thing. Like shopping at the same places, or wondering how the heck to dress your shape. You have to do something different! Step outside the box. Bust through your comfort zone. Have some fun!

Some people want to be from Florence, Italy really scary on Halloween night, some who want to be special, and some women who want a tutu. Fiammetta is one of these and in the midst of all the Halloween costumes we've seen on Funidelia, we chose this...a cute costume, with bones and just right for Halloween, but with a touch of female (tulle and a pink bow). She chose this right away and did not want to see any more. I was happy, because, with a click, the costume for Halloween came quickly. I know it can be nice to achieve handmade, but for those who, like me, have no time to even sleep, Funidelia is manna from heaven. Oh yeah, one more thing, the decorations for Halloween. Funidelia has thought of that, again with the usual click, pumpkins, decorations of paper, and written words will be ready to decorate the home. Now all that remains is to get comfortable, with your children and your costume of heart. Halloween will have a different flavor this year...HAVE A FUN DAY!

Kids love to cook---even at an early age. They’ve been known to drag the step stool to the counter as soon as they hear you’re in the kitchen making a cake or cookies! By the time a child is around four they’re ready to start learning some fundamentals of cooking, with supervision, of course. Here are a few benefits of teaching kids to cook:

1. It’s a bonding experience---you learn to work with each other and spend quality time together. Many cooks have fond memories of learning to cook from their parents, grandparents, relatives, or family friends. 2. Cooking with kids gives you a chance to talk to them about the health benefits and fun of cooking from scratch. Using more natural food ingredients without so many additives and preservatives, and balanced meal planning are just two of the benefits. 3. Kids build cooking skills early on and add to them as they get older. It’s good for them to know how to prepare their own food so they can take care of themselves as they get older. 4. Cooking improves kids’ math and reading skills when they measure ingredients and read recipes. 5. It’s good to teach kids the basics of kitchen safety: turning pot handles in from the stove, using pot pads when picking up hot pans, stove and oven use (under supervision), sanitary food handling, the correct use of knives (under supervision), cooking set-up and clean-up, etc. Involving kids in cleaning up after cooking teaches them that cleanup is part of cooking, not just a chore. 6. Finally, learning to cook something your friends and family enjoy can give kids a feeling of accomplishment and builds self confidence. And you’d be surprised at what adventurous eaters kids can become when they start planning and preparing meals---HAPPY COOKING! Ingredients Pie: 2 pkg. (4 servings) chocolate Jell-o pudding and pie filling 3-1/2 cups milk 2 tablespoons butter or margarine ½ cup chocolate chips 1 prepared Oreo cookie crumb pie shell or other baked pie shell Topping: 1 cup whipping cream 2 tablespoons sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla (Makes 2 cups.) Directions Pie: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Topping: 1. 2. 3.

Combine pie filling mix, milk, butter, and chocolate chips in sauce pan. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a full bubbling boil. Remove pan from heat and cool for 5 minutes, stirring twice. Pour into pie shell. Refrigerate for 3 hours. Garnish with whipped cream.
Chill a medium bowl (preferably glass or metal) and beaters of electric mixer. In chilled bowl, beat whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form. Spread over top of pie and garnish with chocolate shavings, etc. Or pipe whipped cream in decorative fashion on top of pie. Note: Colored decorative candies or sprinkles give seasonal flair to your pie. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.

The Subluxation by Jared Van Wagner Chiropractor Every human body has within it the instructions to be perfect, to be healthy, to be efficient, and to wage war against foreign invaders. We refer to this as innate intelligence. How great is it that we can go on about our day and never have to think about how many white blood cells we have to make, or when to turn on certain enzymes, or turn off others. Or what muscles to contract, and in what order, to move food through our digestive system. If you went to work and had the conscious effort to put forth to do all of these jobs, you may not be as productive for anything else. On a second to second basis instructions are sent to every cell with information about how to function, how to respond to stress, and even how and when to die. These instructions are sent from your brain to every cell in your body along the wires of the nervous system. In addition, messages are sent back to the brain from all of your cells regarding the status of the cell, and its environment. Problems may arise when these messages are obscured by misalignments of the spinal column. To put this concept in perspective, the messages may be amplified, too loud, or softened, or the messages may sound like they are in a different language, or possibly muffled. In either case, the messages are not received as they were intended. Without proper instructions, cells are allowed to dysfunction. Sometimes, the problem may be the opposite, cells may not be able to communicate with the brain. For example, cells may be under heavy fire from foreign invaders, such as bacteria or viruses, they may be needing more resources, such as blood flow, or the cell may be reaching the end of its lifespan. If the proper messages are not received by the brain then these problems have no way of being remedied. For example, we all know the person that gets sick a lot. This person may not be able to fight off infections very well because the proper exchange of information is not taking place, or their immune system has not been very well prepared for action. Further, a cell that does not die when it is programmed to do so is called a cancerous cell, and those cells allowed to reproduce without limits are cancer. This type of dysfunction inside the body is known by chiropractors to be a subluxation. Chiropractors use adjustments to minimize and eliminate subluxations in the body. We work with the body, without the use of drugs or surgery, to ensure all of the messages that are transmitted along the pathways of your nervous system are clearly interpreted, and carried out with the utmost precision. Tell someone today about what chiropractors actually do. Chiropractors are more than just the back pain guys. Your body is much more complex, and can function more efficiently. It is for this reason that any chiropractic patient from birth until the day they die will benefit from chiropractic care.
Turmeric Turmeric (Curcuma longa), the bright yellow of the spice rainbow, is a powerful medicine that has long been used in the Chinese and Indian systems of medicine as an anti-inflammatory agent to treat a wide variety of conditions, including flatulence, jaundice, menstrual difficulties, bloody urine, hemorrhage, toothache, bruises, chest pain, and colic. Cancer Prevention Curcumin's antioxidant actions enable it to protect the colon cells from free radicals that can damage cellular DNA—a significant benefit, particularly in the colon where cell turnover is quite rapid, occurring approximately every three days. Because of their frequent replication, mutations in the DNA of colon cells can result in the formation of cancerous cells much more quickly. Curcumin also helps the body to destroy mutated cancer cells, so they cannot spread through the body and cause more harm. A primary way in which curcumin does so is by enhancing liver function. Additionally, other suggested mechanisms by which it may protect against cancer development include inhibiting the synthesis of a protein thought to be instrumental in tumor formation and preventing the development of additional blood supply necessary for cancer cell growth. Cholesterol Lowering Turmeric's cholesterol-lowering effects are the result of the curry spice's active constituent, curcumin. Research reveals that it is a messaging molecule that communicates with genes in liver cells, directing them to increase the production of mRNA (messenger proteins) that direct the creation of receptors for LDL (bad) cholesterol. With more LDL-receptors, liver cells are able to clear more LDL-cholesterol from the body. LDL-receptor mRNA increased sevenfold in liver cells treated with curcumin at a concentration of 10 microM, compared to untreated cells. Be Humble, Stay Hungry, Always Hustle H3 Leadership by Brad Lomenick Book Review by Nicole Flothe I think one of the main draws I had to this book was the word Leadership. Leadership definition - providing guidance, direction, control, management to a group of people or organization. In life there are so many areas that leadership is essential. In being a mom I deal with leadership every day. In my work setting, I have skills that I teach others how to do or I implement and that shows leadership. I really liked how the book takes you on a journey of Brad's life and how sometimes we need to regroup in order to find our true leadership skills and make sure we aren't just controlling the ship we are sailing, but also enjoying the journey. H3 Leadership provides a practical road map for implementing and living out the transformational habits of a leader. True leadership can be complex. Brad Lomenick keeps it simple with the three transformational habits of leadership: stay hungry, be humble, always hustle. These powerful words describe the leader who is willing to work hard, get it done, and make sure it's not about him or her; the leader who knows that influence is about developing the right habits for success. Here are a few highlights from the book:

Q: What makes me a good communicator? A: What’s more frustrating than speaking without being heard? We’ve all been there before, confiding in a friend as she fondles her cell phone, pitching an idea to a co-worker as he interrupts with his own idea, telling your spouse about your day as his eyes glaze over... apparently focusing on something much more important than you. There is a difference between hearing and listening - listening is hard work, and it takes a great deal of concentration. No wonder our friends, family, and co-workers can be lousy at it. But what about you -- are you a good listener? You may be that colleague or spouse or friend who never really listens and not even know it! See if you have any of these poor listening habits below, or better yet, thicken your skin and ask a friend. Distracting yourself. Sending one little text as your co-worker is talking sends an enormous message to her: You're not listening. And that hurts. Yes, perhaps you're hearing the other person, or you think you're getting the gist -- you're a multitasker after all! -- but are you really concentrating on what she said? Probably not. Focusing on a text message, or your email, or that dog over there or the shopping list you need to make is telling the speaker that those things are more important than what she is saying! Interrupting. This bad habit is three things: Self explanatory, rude, and a sign that you're not listening. Topping the speaker's story. Imagine you're excitedly telling a friend about a Washington, D.C., vacation you're planning, when he decides to cut in: "I lived there for three years and have toured the White House a couple dozen times, and really prefer the National Mall, though all the tourists typically opt for the Lincoln Memorial, which...blah, blah, blah." There's certainly nothing wrong with engaging in a conversation, but cutting into the speaker's story to talk about yourself is a sign you weren't digesting his or her message. Remember, there is a very good reason we have two ears and one mouth; we should listen twice as much as we talk to be an effective communicator!
Problem finding. Someone with this habit thinks, "I'm listening, but only enough to find a problem and fix it for you!" Sometimes this person is so skilled in the habit that he or she will find problems that aren't even there. "Oh, the trip to Washington is this month? Why would you go there in that awful summer heat? And don't even think about cooling down in the air-conditioned museums, they're too crowded." Becoming defensive. If you're the topic of discussion, you might hear criticism that may or may not be there. And so we get defensive. When we're defending, we're not listening. Think about the last meeting, conversation, or encounter you had. Did you display any of the above habits? Whether or not you did, know that everyone can improve his or her listening skills. And that's exactly what listening is: an important skill used in marriage, friendship, parenthood, management, and just about every kind of relationship. Without listening skills, we're poor communicators. Think about the last miscommunication you had, or the last time something didn't go your way. And now think: How much of that had to do with not fully listening? Here's how to practice becoming a better listener: Break those habits. Now that you're aware of poor listening habits, identify when you do them -- and stop. Even if you're midsentence, catch yourself. 'Here I go again, giving advice.’ or 'Here I go again, telling my story instead of listening to yours.' If you're really motivated to become a better listener, ask your friends to call you out when you're doing these habits. SOLER up. Squarely face the speaker; Open up your posture by uncrossing your arms; Lean in; Make Eye contact; Relax. Paraphrase. Just like how good waiters repeat your order back to you, good listeners restate what they're hearing. While this repetition isn't necessary or efficient for every interaction ("I'm hearing that you think it's sunny out"), it's a useful tool for conversations in which messages could be mixed: "I'm hearing that you're upset I didn't go to your party," or "I'm hearing profits are up 4 percent, and you seem hopeful they'll continue rising." Realize when you're not listening and fix it. No one is a perfect listener. If you find your attention has drifted and you weren't actively listening, be honest with whoever is talking. Why are Teddy bears so loveable? In February 15, 1903 was the first Teddy bear invented by Morris Michtom and sold in his shop window. Mitchom petitioned President Theodore Roosevelt for permission to use his name, Teddy. The president agreed and, before long, other toy manufacturers began turning out copies of Michtom's stuffed bears, which soon became a national childhood treasure.

In Remembrance of Renvek. We danced off the energy that our little warrior Renvek gave us all. There was a very heartfelt spiritual-led meeting with a dancing ceremony I'll never forget. Its nice to see family and friends that I haven't seen forever come together. Sometimes we need to take time out of our busy lives to spend time with our loved ones. Did you know that taking proper care of your teeth and gums can improve your family’s health? Studies show that gum disease and bacteria from your mouth and teeth can cause inflammation throughout your body, leading to any number of serious diseases. Who knew? I certainly didn’t--at first. In recent years I’ve learned that poor dental care not only leads to loss of teeth; it can cause or contribute to many serious or life-threatening diseases: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
Heart disease Stroke Diabetes Yeast infection Pre-term babies and pre-eclampsya Low fertility in men & erectile disfunction Cancer of the mouth, throat, pancreas, and colon

According to the CDC, at least 1 in 5 (20%) American children 5-11 have at least 1 cavity (decayed tooth), and in adolescents 12-19 it’s at least 1 in 7 (13%). The incidence of tooth decay is 25% in low income people ages 5-19, compared to only 11% in families with higher income. And in adults, nearly 1/3 have 1 or more cavities, 1 in 7 people ages 35-44 have gum disease, increasing to 1 in 4 adults 65 and older. What can you do to protect your family’s dental health? Proper oral hygiene and dental checkups are key. If you don’t have insurance through work, look in your area for clinics that offer low cost care, or look online for lower priced dental insurance companies. Dentists provide cleaning and check-ups for your family, helping to prevent infection and tooth loss. They can put sealants on your children’s teeth to prevent decay of baby teeth and make sure infected teeth are filled or removed. If a child’s or adolescent’s tooth must be removed before an adult tooth comes in, they can put a spacer in to insure proper spacing. Dentists can also provide fluoride supplements if you live in an area without fluoridated water. Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay as it makes teeth resistant to acid buildup from plaque, sugars, and bacteria. For good dental care: 1.

As soon as your child begins to develop teeth, brush with a soft brush with a smear of fluoridated toothpaste. As soon as your child's teeth begin to touch each other, you can start flossing their teeth. Flossing is so important as it removes food particles that cause tooth decay and bad breath. After the age of two you can use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, and until they’re six watch them brush to make sure they spit out the toothpaste rather than swallowing it. Fluoride can be dangerous to children if too much is ingested, so keep fluoride products away from small children. Brush teeth at least morning and night, especially before your family goes to bed. If you must drink after brushing at night, just drink water. Fluoride dental rinses such as ACT can be used to help protect teeth before going to bed at night. Rinsing your mouth with water after eating during the day helps take care of your teeth. Limit carbonated beverages and sweets, as they cause teeth to deteriorate. Be aware that heavy smoking and heavy drinking in adults over 55 contributes to mouth cancers. Get dental checkups and cleaning twice a year, if possible. And don’t forget to brush your teeth after eating Trick or Treat candy!

by Cheryl Flothe On a recent family research trip to South Carolina and Georgia at the end of the “Great South Carolina Flood of 2015” we were forced to take detours to avoid flooded areas. The detours took us on the slower country roads rather than the freeways. It was a change of pace from the usual busy interstates and big towns! What an adventure! The slower pace let us enjoy scenery and culture so different than other places I’ve lived.

Some old homes were deserted---many still lived in.
On our drive through many small towns we passed tobacco warehouses and fields planted with peanuts, cotton, hay, and other crops. We saw trucks hauling tobacco bound for processing and pine logs on their way to pulp or lumber bills. Unique signs like Hunters Hollow, Land Clearing & Brush Hogging, Horse Boarding, Smokin’ Pig---the Barbeque Joint, and Fresh Shrimp advertised businesses and places. Fried chicken, shrimp and grits, barbeque, and boiled peanuts were favorites throughout the South---we sampled them all! We went to Bubba Gumps for shrimp and grits, Webster Manor for all-you-can-eat southern cooking (fried chicken and biscuits), and Fred’s for barbeque! Finger licking good!

We returned home to find the flooding affected not only homes and businesses in South Carolina, but it devastated farmers’ crops. 70% of the cotton and peanut crops and 50% of the soybean crops were lost! One article I read said they hoped farmers had enough insurance to cover their losses. I’m sure many didn’t.

Taking the back roads through South Carolina and Georgia brought me in close contact with my southern roots. I come from a long line of South Carolina farmers on my mother’s side. They lived in the country, away from the big cities, and could have lived off red dirt roads or rivers like those we passed. Although I feel for those who lost so much in the flood, I’m grateful we took the detour on those4old country roads.

If you are looking for a live weather app download Living HD. A few games for the kids are Qubes, Clumsy Ninja, TMT Sect 1, Princess, and, my favorite, DoodleBuddy. I was watching Jimmy Fallon the other night and he and Selena Gomez used the Dubsmash app. This app allows you to take a video of you saying popular quotes, and songs by lip synching. Super fun. And the last app for this month is CBS. So many networks have their own apps to watch the latest sitcoms or drama shows right from your smartphone. Please remember to send in your favorite app and perhaps we'll feature you here if we love it too!

Kids can play lots of Halloween games online and popular site, Primary Games lets you destroy pumpkins, tour a haunted house with Scooby Doo, decorate your own virtual pumpkin and more. Agame also has a haunted house that you can tour with your own costumed player.
