The Rainbow
Holy Father from above Change my mind to yours Divine. Make it like the clouds above, like your spirit soaring dove. Now I seek your face alone. Kindly keep my mind in tone. To your words that cleans my own. So I think of yours alone then I am kept in perfect peace just like your little sheep. Whose little hearts do beat. They are protected by your love. For as our Shepard who never sleeps you do keep them from defeat. In total victory from the heat. There is no one else like you. You bring them to the water too. You're the one who draws them there. Because of your perfect care. As we praise and worship You We are winners through and through.
Storm clouds are forming Darkness fills the air Hearts ache with longing Souls filled with despair Raindrops begin to descend From the sky Teardrops, they fall as we Ask the question, why? In a whirlwind of emotions Not able yet to see Lies a light on the Horizon To help set mankind free He patiently awaits us To find shelter in his love And when each child doth turn to him The Angels cheer from up above The Rain clouds start to dissipate The sun starts shining through Behold! The rainbow that appears To shine its light for you!

letter from the editor
May brought lots of rainstorms to Sunny Florida, our flowers are beginning to bloom, and the grass is greener. National Nurse's week and Teacher's week were celebrated, what an honor to be a Nurse for the last 18 years. This month has been full of year end events at the kid's schools and my daughter's dance recital. We celebrated Mother's Day with family, enjoyed a nice lunch together, then watched The Avengers. It was a great show and the best part was at the end when the audience clapped in appreciation.

Jen's Fabulous Finds by Nicole Flothe The Heart of Fashion can be found in our soles. There are many companies that raise money to provide shoes for the needy. I was reading an article the other day about a child who received a pair of shoes from Laces of Love. They were so delighted that they had some basketball shoes as now they could enjoy the sport they loved. The company, Laces of Love, raises money to help those less fortunate and provides children with new shoes. Founded in 2005, Laces has provided over 30,000 needy kids (age 1 - 18) with NEW shoes (usually sneakers). Artist Kaye Gardner, from Naples Sea Life Lights, recently wrote a blog post on how she donated one of her Sea Life Lights for a fundraising event for them. The MISSION of LACES of LOVE is to provide new shoes to low income and disadvantaged children in Collier and Lee Counties, Florida, and to educate the public on the needs of these children. Another company, Naples On The Run, offers their customers a way to donate their used shoes to those in need. Every month they donate two to three boxes of shoes to the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee. On a national level...
With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. Þ Since 1950, TOMS Giving Partner World Vision has been serving children in need throughout the world. They work in almost 100 countries and distribute new TOMS shoes in more than 15. Through diverse and integrative programming, the organization is dedicated to supporting children, families, and communities helping them become self-sustainable. When a TOMS customer buys a pair of shoes, the Giving Pair is not simply dropped off to a child in need. It’s thanks to their Giving Partners like World Vision that shoes are distributed to children by the Giving Partner staff and local volunteers as part of the holistic development programs.
After having breakfast at Toast of Naples (yum!) with Nicole Flothe, we decided to take a stroll around Vanderbilt Collections when we happened upon a new designer resale store called True Fashionistas. It's a new consignment shop where I found a lot of great designers at even greater prices. They had women's clothing, handbags and, ohh those shoes!! These were a great find at $130. The designer is Chloe & I probably saved myself at least $200 by buying them used vs. new at Nordstrom Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth avenue. I highly recommend going there because you can find a lot of different brands & designers with prices that range from low to very expensive, depending on the item and designer. I bought these at Aldo shoes recently. Nude is the new black! Nude shoes are so versatile, they can be paired with any wardrobe. You can dress them up or play them down. Wedges are especially fun this season although I wear them year round. As a stay at home mom, wedges give me the perfect lift! These are reasonably priced at $80. Nude elongates the legs and gives a seamless finish to any wardrobe. Awesome! I went into Plato's closet,
another consignment shop in the Bed Bath & Beyond plaza. Bought a pair of Hudson jeans for $35. That is a fab find for these designer duds! Plus they had tons of T's from $5 and up. Check back for next month's Jen's Fashion Finds. by Jen Tutino

by Nicole Flothe I recently found a great blog, Wardrobe Wednesday, about what to wear during a photo session. Every Wednesday they feature an article about fashion and photography. The one that caught my eye was a guest post written by Andee of Crave Photography.
I’m Andee from Crave Photography, a portrait photographer based out of Utah who specializes in senior, child and wedding photography. I picked up my first DSLR three years ago and haven’t slept much since! As much as I love shooting, I am completely obsessed with editing. My real passion is teaching others my simple and straight-forward editing techniques for creating standout imagery. I love spending time with my family outdoors and traveling to new places!

One of the most frequently asked questions that I get from other photographers is how do I get my clients to show up dressed so nicely. It’s all about communication — and a dress code! I have learned from painful experience that if you do not take charge of your correspondence and expectations with your client, your session can be disappointing for you as an artist. We’ve all had the session where everyone shows up wearing matching T-shirts right? Or someone shows up to an engagement session dressed far too casual. To avoid this, I always make sure I inform my clients of my dress code: No baseball hats, no shorts, no flip flops, and no logo-splashed T-shirts. I feel like the client is already making a considerable investment in their photography session, and I personally expect that they will be prepared to come dressed appropriately. By having a dress code, you weed out so many of the problematic clothing disasters! This may seem harsh, but as much as the session is about my clients, it is also about me being happy as an artist and creating imagery and portraits I can be proud of. NAPLES BAY SUNSET CRUISE
by Cheryl Flothe
Whether you’re taking visitors on a tour of Naples, FL or just out having fun with your family, a Naples Bay cruise aboard the Double Sunshine fills the bill! Recently, we took our cousins from Arkansas on a memorable sunset cruise. The 1-1/2 hour cruise departs from the dock by River Walk restaurant at Tin City and transports you through calm waters, often accompanied by jumping and diving dolphins riding the waves. Knowledgeable tour guides tell you about the luxurious bayside communities and how they were formed by early forward-thinking Naples developers. It’s interesting to see the luxurious mansions on the bay, learn who owns them, and hear anecdotes about their history. As birds fly overhead or stroll the beaches looking for their evening meal, the Double Sunshine slips out of the mouth of the bay into the Gulf of Mexico. A breathtaking view up the coastline shows the miles long expanse of beach and the Naples Pier in the distance. If the weather cooperates you’ll linger just long enough to see a spectacular sunset before heading back to port in the twilight. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars on this trip!

enew your mind.
Dr. Sara Jordan, co-founder of the Lahey Clinic in Boston and a great medical expert of the past century, said, "The simple cure for many states of disability is to give your mind a good shampoo every day." USA TODAY reports that a recent medical study showed that a highly pessimistic outlook shortens the lifespan of people with recurring cancer. "It's important not to give up," said the doctor who did this study, Richard Schultz of the University of Pittsburgh. He said that some studies have shown that pessimism can impair one's immune functions, making it harder to fight sickness. Just like muscles, the brain benefits from a good workout. And reading is more neurobiologically demanding than processing images or speech. As you're reading, say, this article, "parts of the brain that have evolved for other functions—such as vision, language, and associative learning—connect in a specific neural circuit for reading, which is very challenging," says Ken Pugh, PhD, president and director of research, Haskins Laboratories, which is devoted to the science of language and affiliated with Yale.

I love Zumba because ... 1) It's FUN! 2) It's fitness in disguise. 3) It's REWARDING! I've always loved to dance, so that's what attracted me to Zumba Fitness in the first place. But, Zumba is not all about dancing. It's also fitness. Or, as we like to say, fitness in disguise. You don't realize you're working out because you feel like you're at a party. It's been reported that on average, you can burn over 700 calories in a one hour class. That's great for people who hate walking on a treadmill for an hour or more to get similar results. I'm guilty of that. I've always dreaded going to the gym, so I was happy to find something that kept bringing me back. I started going to Zumba classes regularly, four times a week, at my gym. I took my first Zumba class back in June 2011. I was hooked by the second song, wanting more and more. I found it easy to follow the instructor and I loved the music that we were dancing to -- a mixture of Latin songs, hip hop and even current pop songs. After 6 months of taking Zumba classes, I was encouraged by my classmates and my "Into Tomorrow" friend, Dave Graveline to take it to the next level. And, that meant getting certified to start teaching my own classes. I quickly signed up for an instructor training in South Florida. I've been a licensed Zumba Instructor since February 24, 2012.
HEARTBEAT CONNECTION MAY 2012
I've been teaching twice a week at The Moors Community Club Center in the Miami Lakes area since March 22, 2012. I've also taught at Shula's Athletic Club in Miami Lakes, where I'm a Guest Instructor. Whenever I'm teaching, it comes from my heart. I'm very passionate about Zumba and I care a lot about my students. I want them to succeed in their weight-loss goals and to live a more fit life. Dave Graveline and my students have commented that I'm in my "element" when I'm onstage teaching Zumba. And, that's where I find it rewarding. I work off the energy from the class. I feel we connect on another level. From the warm-up to the cool-down, I'm responsible for keeping them going and keeping them motivated to help reach their fitness goals. I've seen and heard of many successful weight-loss stories with Zumba. That's the other rewarding part: You're taking steps toward a healthier life. In addition to the three top reasons above, I also love Zumba because of the community of instructors and students. We share a special connection and quickly become friends, which ends up turning into a more familylike relationship. We call it "Zumba Love" and we make it our goal to spread some of that love everywhere we go.

COOKING TIPS
Recipe Corner
I found this recipe in the Sunday Dinner section of Parade Magazine, May 6, 2012. The title of the article was, Mac Attack! Shaqille O’Neal’s mother would make his greatgrandmother’s macaroni and cheese casserole for him after every basketball game when he was a child. Mac and cheese recipes always get my attention as it was a staple in my mother-in-law’s kitchen. While I’ve never exactly reproduced her recipe, I have come close. This recipe is quite similar to hers, but it also uses Velveeta cheese. Sounds yummy! Shaq’s Macaroni and Cheese 1 (16-oz) box elbow macaroni 1 t. vegetable oil ½ t. salt 1 stick (1/2 c.) margarine (Shaq’s mom prefers Parkay) 1 T. flour 1 to 1-1/2 c. milk 1 egg 1 (16-oz) package Velveeta cheese, sliced 1 (16-oz) package sharp cheddar cheese, diced 1 c. bread crumbs 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. 2. In a large pot of boiling water, cook macaroni with oil and salt until al dente (not quite soft). Drain. 3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add flour. Cook, stirring for 1 minute. Add 1 cup milk and egg. Cook and stir for 1 minute. Stir in Velveeta cheese and half the cheddar; cook on low heat until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth. If sauce is too thick, stir in up to ½ cup milk. 4. Add cooked macaroni to sauce. Stir over low heat for 1 minute. Taste and add extra salt, if necessary. 5. Pour mixture into a large greased casserole dish or baking pan. Top with remaining cheddar and bread crumbs. 6. Bake for 30 minutes or until top and bottom are browned. Cool slightly, cut, and enjoy.

How to Make Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs (Condensed from Simply Recipes, Jul 19, 2007) Cook time: 12 minutes For easy to peel hard boiled eggs, make sure they are several days old as fresh eggs are harder to peel. If you’ve boiled a batch that are hard to peel, try putting them in the refrigerator for a few days and they should be easier to peel. If you need to hard cook fresh eggs, and want them easy to peel, steaming the eggs works well: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUHKpHek2E8. Directions for Hard Boiled Eggs: 1. Put eggs in a single layer in saucepan, cover with an inch or two of cold water. Starting with cold water and gently bringing eggs to a boil will help keep them from cracking. Adding a tablespoon of vinegar to the water helps keep the egg whites from running out of eggs that crack while cooking, but some people don’t like the taste. A half teaspoon of salt added to the water is thought to help prevent cracking and to make eggs easier to peel. Put burner on high and bring the eggs to a boil. As soon as the water starts to boil, remove the pan from heat for a few seconds. 2. Reduce the heat to low and return the pan to burner. Let simmer one minute, or, if using an electric stove with a coil element, turn off heat. There’s enough heat in the coil to keep the eggs simmering for a minute. 3. After a minute, remove pan from heat, cover, and let sit for 12 minutes. For a large batch, after 10 minutes you can check for doneness by removing an egg with a slotted spoon, running it under cold water, and cutting it open. If it isn't done, cook the eggs a minute or two longer. The eggs should be done perfectly in 10 minutes; but, depending on the shape of the pan, size and number of eggs compared to the amount of water, and how cooked you like them; it can take several more minutes. Find your own cooking time according to the size of pan and eggs you usually use and the type of stove you have. Eggs can sit covered without overcooking for up to 15-20 minutes. With this method, it’s hard to overcook eggs. 4. Remove eggs with slotted spoon and place in bowl of ice water, especially if you have a lot of eggs. For smaller batches you can also strain the water from pan, fill pan with cold water, strain, and refill until the eggs cool. Once cooled, strain water from the eggs. Refrigerate eggs for up to 5 days in a covered container to prevent odors from being released. Amazing Nature MAKE YOUR OWN BACKYARD WILDLIFE HABITAT by Cheryl Flothe The month of May is Garden for Wildlife Month. Making a Backyard Wildlife Habitat has come to mind at our house, as my husband received a bird feeder for his birthday. Now we are attracting birds on a regular basis that we’ve only occasionally seen before. We’re even thinking of adding a bird bath! Last year it was really exciting to watch a pair of nesting red bellied woodpeckers build their nest and raise chicks in a dead tree in our front yard. Special experiences like that could be in store for those who put forth a little effort by improving the wildlife habitat area around their homes. No matter what size your outdoor space is, from acres to porch size, you can make your own Backyard Wildlife Habitat to attract birds and wildlife and help them survive. According to the National Wildlife Federation, there are 149,893 Certified Wildlife Habitats in the U.S. Make yours 149,894 by following the steps below! If you certify your own wildlife habitat, the National Wildlife Federation will plant a tree in your honor. Visit their site at: www.nwf.org for more information. There are four necessary elements for your wildlife habitat: food, water, protective cover, and a place to raise young. Food: The best foods are wild plants from your area as birds, insects, and wildlife will naturally be attracted to them. Wild plants and trees provide nuts, seeds, pollen, nectar, berries and foliage and they’re easiest to grow and maintain. You can also supplement with birdfeeders, hummingbird feeders, butterfly feeders, and squirrel feeders placed in protected areas that provide cover from predators. Visit the following sites for further information: 1. Butterfly gardening in SW Florida www.nsis.org/butterfly/butterfly.html. 2. Best plants for wildlife in the SW Florida area - myfwc.com Water: All birds and animals need clean water for drinking, bathing, and reproduction. They can usually get water from many sources in the wild, but sometimes water sources can be polluted by runoff or extreme weather and also may be

Photographer Glenn Flothe scarce in times of draught. Your backyard can provide much needed water in the form of birdbaths, ponds, water gardens, and puddling areas for butterflies. 1. Birdbaths - Make sure to place the birdbath off the ground and in a shaded area that keeps the water cooler. Also, place birdbath near bushes or trees so birds can take cover should predators approach. Change the water several times a week to avoid mold and mosquitoes. 2. Ponds and Water Gardens - Ponds range from simple containers with water plants on a porch to pre-formed or plastic lined in-ground water features. Bog gardens are the most natural and attract more wildlife. These are dug into the soil, lined with plastic, then local plants are added. Try to provide a shallow area in your pond where smaller birds can stand up for bathing and drinking. It’s good to have some tall water plants so birds and insects can land on them. Insects are a good food source for birds and other aquatic life. Place water tolerant plants along the edges of the pond. The damp areas around a pond make good puddling areas for butterflies, but you can also make your own “puddle.” Locate a spot in your flower garden, preferably near butterfly attracting plants, dig a hole big enough to submerge a small bowl filled with sand, then dampened with water. Sprinkle on a little salt to attract male butterflies and place a few river rocks or shells nearby for butterflies to light on. Protective Cover and a Place to Raise Young: Birds and other wildlife need places for shelter from people, predators, and the weather in order to survive. For nesting and raising young, many of the same features are needed. Native bushes, trees, brush and rock piles, and dead trees are ideal. Other places for cover and nesting include wildflower patches; bird, bat, and toad houses; and ponds. Other Resources: Invite Birds to your Yard, by Ginny Stibolt -www.floridata.com

Benefits of Facebook Fan Pages by Nicole Flothe
Facebook is an adventure, it's like an open book waiting for you to turn the page to visit a new place, a new business, or see an adorable picture of a sweet baby just born. Our daily involvement with Social Media has brought us a company, The Small Business Room, that loves helping others make a success out of their Facebook Fan pages. Here's our interview, we hope you enjoy learning a few benefits... 1. How did you start your the company? I started this page about 9 months ago to help businesses connect with others. I have recently decided to really focus on providing resources and tips to other small business owners so they can grow their fan pages and small businesses. 2. What benefits do people get from Liking your Facebook Fan Page? The Small Business Room is a place where small business owners can come and network with other small business owners. We regularly have networking sessions where small business owners can come and connect with other small business owners. Most of which could be future customers for each others' products and services. 3. For a new company just looking into Facebook Fan Pages what would be something that you would recommend they do for their business? There are a few things which are relatively easy that every new business should be doing on Facebook with their Fan Pages: - Create custom Apps (formerly known as "Tabs"), which can cost as little as $200 just for some basic ones, but can be very expensive if you want to run a contest or other more technically-involved Apps. - Put a "Facebook Like Button" on your website for your Facebook Fan Page. This is different than just a Facebook logo which links to your Facebook Page. When a customer is on your website, they should be ready to make a purchase or contact you for more information at least.
HEARTBEAT CONNECTION MAY 2012
You don't want someone who's ready to buy going over to your Facebook Fan Page where there might not be an opportunity to make a sale. Having the Facebook Like Button on your website allows that website visitor to "Like" your Facebook Fan Page without having to leave your site. If they do happen to leave without buying, then you have at least allowed the opportunity to "stay in touch" through your quality Facebook posts. - Make sure you check out the recorded webinar on Facebook Timeline Marketing for Small Businesses by our marketing partners, Circle Marketing. (www.YouTube.com/CircleMarketing). It really gives you a detailed breakdown of how to maximize Facebook Fan Pages for small business marketing.
4. Do you have one tip that would help companies make better connections on Facebook? Yes. There are many, but the most important tip would be to create a genuine and honest connection with your audience and fan base. Social Media is more like publicity and public relations than it is an advertising platform. You can use ads to bring people into your Facebook page or Website, but you should use Social Media (and Facebook in particular) as the tool to build a strong connection with your existing (and potential) customers. You do this through quality posts and quality content. Of course, your exact strategy depends greatly on many things, like the type of business you have, who your target customer is, how large or small your company is, and what overall marketing/social media goals you have, just to name a few of the many considerations. Some very general and basic rules of thumb, though: - Be friendly and personable, but not too personal. - Ask engaging questions with your fans, and try to get a conversation going. - Have a basic ratio of 3 (or more) quality posts to 1 marketing post. - Give industry tips which show you're an expert in your field. This will create trust with your followers. - Use Facebook as a way to increase traffic to your site and/or blog by posting links back to your website's content and articles.
