Pisamonas shoes for children and the discovery of a serious brand…attentive, colorful and fun!

Pisamonas shoes for children in a practical world are fast and cheerful with a price that makes you want to go shopping. Now! I wanted to try, or rather, we wanted to immediately experience these Pisamonas children’s shoes.

Fiammetta and I saw them online and it was love at first sight. We did not know the brand well or the underlying philosophy. But after realizing they’re children's shoes made with love whose production takes place in Spain, and that the reason the prices were so low was the large quantities produced, we decided that Fiammetta’s feet would be ready for their first pair of Pisamonas. Among the many offers online, we chose the sneakers. Yes, the sneakers, because, in the end, Fiammetta never has enough and she always wears them---even with fine clothes or a dress--colorful and fun, as in the look we show you today. There are so many types of Pisamonas we opted for the glitter. Now you know a pair of glittery shoes is a must, a necessity, and must be present in the wardrobe of your child! She felt at ease, and was able to do whatever she liked.

ONE ROASTED CHICKEN 3 MEALS by Cheryl Flothe

One of the easiest (and least expensive) meals you can make is roast chicken with vegetables. If you’re in a hurry, you can buy a whole roasted chicken, but it’s worth saving some money to roast your chicken at home. And you get to enjoy the delicious smell in the house as it cooks. This is a good meal to fix when you have a little extra time on the weekend and a good sized chicken can yield 3-4 meals. You might even consider cooking two and cutting up the second one for the freezer. A whole bird will yield 3 or more meals. The good thing about chicken is you can make so many different recipes with it, including stock for soups and gravies. Enchiladas, chicken salad, pizza, white bean chili, chicken pot pie, barbeque chicken, soups, and oriental chicken are just a few ideas. If you’re really ambitious you can prepare and freeze a few meals for later, or just cut up the leftover chicken and pop it into zip-locs or freezer containers for another day’s quick meal. Cooked chicken lasts in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, while frozen pieces last for up to 9 months. You can even stock up when whole chickens are on sale and freeze them up to a year!

Oven Roasted Chicken with Vegetables

Ingredients * 1 each 5-8 pound roasting chicken * Butter * Minced garlic, herbs to taste, salt and pepper * Twine or band to tie chicken legs together * Vegetables, as desired. Suggestions: Potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, broccoli, green beans, squash, etc.

Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 400 2. Rinse chicken in cold water and pat dry with paper towels. 3. Melt several tablespoons of butter with minced garlic, herbs to taste, and salt and pepper. 4. Rub chicken all over, including under the skin, with the melted butter mixture.

ONE ROASTED CHICKEN 3 MEALS by Cheryl Flothe

Instructions continued... 5. Season cavity as desired. 6. Place cut up lemons, celery, onions, or other ingredients inside chicken. 7. Tie or band chicken legs together. 8. Wash and cut up desired vegetables, cutting potatoes and other vegetables large enough so they’re done about the same time as the carrots or other vegetables that take a little longer to cook.

Chicken Enchiladas

9. Toss vegetables in oil or melted butter and season as desired. 10. Place vegetables in baking dish and put chicken on top, breast side up.

Chicken Vegetable Soup

11. Insert meat thermometer into the center of an inside chicken thigh muscle. 12. Bake uncovered at 400 for ½ hour, then turn temperature down to 325 and cook for 15 minutes per pound. 13. About 2/3 of the way through cooking, cut band or string between drumsticks. 14. Chicken should be done when meat thermometer registers 180 and drumsticks are loose in their sockets.

Thai Barbeque Chicken

15. Remove vegetables to covered container. 16. Let chicken rest for 15 minutes before carving. 17. Use drippings for gravy, if desired. 18. Save leftover chicken for 3-4 more meals such as those on www.eatchicken.com and allrecipes.com Sweet & Sour Chicken Note: Recipe photos from Bing.

You Asked? We Answered. by Shelly Aristizabal

How can I be Great at what I do? Often times when we think of a knowledgeable person he or she is book smart, a graduate of Harvard at the top of the class. Or maybe a scientist or brain surgeon is our idea of specialized knowledge. What we must understand is that specific knowledge, in any area of life, can provide an edge. The pursuit of specific knowledge and a constant eagerness to learn---along with the practical wisdom of applying knowledge in a situation to produce a desired outcome---are character traits to embrace. We will grow as we constantly seek knowledge and seek experts to teach us about topics ranging from technology to finances to relationships to personal development to health and to leadership. Don’t settle. For some, low self-esteem can make us think we can’t learn. Others can wear a mask of either arrogance that they don’t need to learn or complacency from a belief that more learning isn’t necessary. Many believe that they are fine and don’t desire to learn, yet what are they settling for? Do you have to be broke to want more money? Do you have to hate your job to want something else? Do you have to be on the edge of divorce to want to make your marriage better? Do you settle for good when you could be creating spectacular? A lifetime goal of learning will keep you young and growing. What good books are you reading? What thought leader’s Podcasts are you listening to in your car? What seminar will you attend in the next few months?

6

It’s a choice. Do dog’s like bones? Most of us would think they do, but they don’t. Dogs like steak; they settle for bones. Think about a dog family making dinner---you know they would give us the bones and keep the steak for themselves. What happens is that we feed the dog bones, bones, and more bones until they start thinking they like them! Dogs begin settling for bones instead of steak. It’s not that they dislike bones or that bones are bad, it’s that they are settling for bones. Take someone who had been in a good relationship for ten years---a good relationship, not a bad one. What they experience year after year is a good relationship. It is relatively easy then to start settling for a good relationship (bone) instead of trying to create a spectacular relationship (steak). It’s not about changing who you are with. You can make the relationship you are in better. If you have a job, a home, a nice car, and you make a salary that is equal to or better than most of your neighbors, it’s easy to start setting for a good income instead of creating a spectacular income. Do you believe it’s important to pursue excellence and to seek to surpass your current level? Many people get confused and think, “If I want more, I must be dissatisfied with what I have.” This is untrue; it equates to being motivated to being dissatisfied or ties happiness to dissatisfaction. Crazy, huh? Where are you settling for ordinary in your life? What action could you take to create spectacular? View online at www.shellyaristizabal.com

Heart of Health

ISSUE 62 APR 2016 by Jared Van Wagner D.C.

Avocado - Superfood of the month New research shows some exciting benefits to adding avocados to your diet. One new major development is that avocados enhance the absorption of carotenoids. Carotenoids are the orange-yellow pigments in vegetables like carrots and sweet potatoes that have numerous health benefits. However, the main benefit of avocados is in the area of cardiovascular support and blood sugar regulation. Three areas where avocados help the cardiovascular system are blood fat levels, types of fats in the blood stream, and protection against oxygenbased damage to blood vessels. Avocados contain large amounts of oleic acid as well as phytosterols, which, together, improve cholesterol numbers. Avocados contain healthy amounts of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds which curb damage to the blood vessel walls---the first step in atherosclerotic plaque production. Concerning blood sugar management, avocados seem to play a strong role in blood sugar control, insulin regulation, and satiety. Avocados have been shown to decrease insulin secretion following a meal and reduce blood sugar. This is important because insulin quickly reduces the available sugar in the blood stream. Sharp increases and decreases of blood sugar may lead to drowsiness, that afternoon crash, or even start you on the path to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. The healthy fats and blood sugar control attributes of avocado make this powerhouse a must for any healthy diet.

Kids Day at the Alaska Zoo My nephew, Austin, spent the day with his friends at the Alaska Zoo. There are so many great animals to see. Here are several photos from his recent adventure.

They stopped to take a quick photo with the local zoo tiger!

The wolves, brown bears, and the polar bears, were all out on this sunny day.

Heart of Home & Family by Cheryl Flothe

Make Time for Family! At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child, a parent. Barbara Bush

Barbara Bush is a wise woman! How many of us regret we don’t spend more time together with family---but never seem to find the time? There will always be something to do, so it seems we have to make the time to be together. Clear your calendar for part of a day and go to lunch or dinner together. Record that TV show---instead, spend that time playing games, watching a movie, or playing outside as a family. Ride your bikes or take walks. Save time for family by ordering pizza or making extra family meals to freeze and thaw to free up time you would spend cooking a whole meal. Make sitting down as a family to the dinner table a ritual---kids love traditions and the bonding time brings the whole family together. Our son’s family keeps the Melissa & Doug Family Dinner Box of Questions on the table, so sometimes after dinner everyone has fun asking each other questions about themselves. We learn and share a lot! Tuck the kids in at night---they’re never too old. Those precious minutes before sleep are special times to talk about their lives. Parents also need some time to just be together.

Try to find a time you can spend an evening out as a couple or at home when the kids are overnighting with friends. Your kids will be grown before you know it, but even after they’re grown, we still need family time together. We are only on this earth a certain number of years, so make time for family!

Historic Savannah, Georgia

Gingerbread House in Savannah

Savannah, the first capital of Georgia, was fortunate to be set up with a lot of forethought. General James Oglethorpe, Representative of King George II of England, was sent in 1733 to set up the colony as a buffer between the Colony of South Carolina and Spanish held territory in Florida. He drew up the town into a number of squares with sites for homes, gardens, and facilities. Each square had an open area in the middle for gathering.

by Cheryl Flothe

Container ships transport goods up the Savannah River.

In the 1950’s, a group of women got together to save and restore much of Savannah’s historic area. Due to their hard work, the Savannah Historic District was named a National Historic Landmark in 1966. Today, tourism and port activity/shipping are Savannah’s biggest economic income producers.

Hard times have come and gone. The Revolutionary War; Civil War when General Sherman spared the city because of its beauty; the Reconstruction Period after the Civil War; fires; hurricanes; the Depression, and World Wars. Through it all, Savannah has endured and is thriving today. And the town is still divided into 22 park-like squares, a reminder of the city forefathers’ careful planning. Historic Savannah, Georgia

Historic River Street with its cobblestones.

Savannah, Georgia holds a special place in my heart---I was born there and have visited many times over the years. And no matter when I return, it always seems the same--historic homes, moss draped oaks extending across the streets, parks, fountains, cobblestone streets near the Savannah River, and horse-drawn carriages taking people to enjoy the sights. My grandparents’ house is still there (though owned by others) and we always make a point of stopping by to take a picture. Although I didn’t grow up there, we visited so many times the memories will last forever--- running barefoot in the grass all summer, going to the beach at Tybee and Hilton Head, spending weekends at my uncle’s house on Forest River---we learned to swim, cast for shrimp, fish, and catch crabs. The taste of fresh seafood is unforgettable! Whenever

APRIL APPS by Nicole Flothe My husband got me a new phone as my photo stream was always saying "not enough space." Now I can take videos and photos to my heart's content. We downloaded the myAT&T app and AT&T Mobil to help with the transition from my old phone. Since my boys are into basketball I got them two new apps, Coach Godwin and OneBasketball. I also would like to keep working on my fitness goals and added 7MWC, a quick 7 minute workout. The three apps for my daughter this month were musical.ly, a singing app; 123 Learning; and Snapchat for the funny faces feature. My last app this month was Cartwheel, a Target app that gives you the ability to preselect your coupons before you go shopping and use them at checkout!

You can also personalize something special for her using services from Walgreens, Personalization Mall, and Things Remembered. Featured Foundation by Nicole Flothe

Shooting Touch was launched April 8th, 2008. I was reading an article on my phone about a boy in Rwanda that had been taking care of his family since his dad died. Shooting Touch had given him the opportunity to learn the game of basketball and he become a certified coach for the younger kids and now makes an income for his family. The company overview...Shooting Touch harnesses the power of basketball to elevate the health, education and opportunities of youths and young adults around the world. In Boston, Shooting Touch has established a year-round presence and program that provides inner city and suburban youth with opportunities for development, both on and off the court. Internationally, The Shooting Touch Sabbatical Program, known as the "Basketball Peace Corps" provides the opportunity for gifted college graduates to work in Rwanda, dedicating an entire year of service to using basketball as a catalyst for good. We get kids moving and excited about this great sport. We engage. We mobilize. We bring kids together in often desperate circumstances so they learn how to live healthy lives in a fun, supportive environment.

In the Spring of 2015, Shooting Touch will move beyond its events-based platform and launch a pilot program - G3 Boston: Getting Girls in the Game - focusing on providing Boston middle school females an opportunity to use basketball as a tool to learn health education, leadership and social development. Whether our Shooting Touch teams are working in Boston's inner city or the rural highlands of Kayonza, Rwanda, our shared mission is the same - to provide healthier lives for children in need through the sport of basketball.
