Sleep Better -- Feel Better -- Get Healthier! The cold and flu season is upon us and the flu is a hard-hitter this year. We all need between six and eight hours of sleep each night. Any less, and we’re subject to lowered immunity, feeling tired all the time, and weight gain---all leading to being less healthy. Here are some tips for a better night’s sleep:

Try to think about those things earlier in the evening and write down three things you can do to improve the problem. 11. If your brain is still too busy thinking of your problems, try this breathing technique to help you relax: take a deep breath, hold it 5-10 seconds, let it out, repeat. It will help you focus on breathing not the events of the day. (Believe me, it works!)
1. Don’t nap---it will keep you awake later. 2. Exercise on a regular basis is good and helps you sleep, but don’t do vigorous exercise past two to four hours before bed. 3. No alcohol or caffeine after 6:00 pm. 4. Don’t eat a heavy meal past four hours before bed. 5. A light protein snack before bed is ok--peanut butter or cheese and crackers (not too much, though). 6. Sleepytime or chamomile tea are helpful sleep inducers, as well as warm milk. 7. Five-ten mg. melatonin is helpful, especially the time-release version. Take it 8 hours, or so before you plan to wake up so you're not too groggy the next morning. 8. Keep your room dark and cool. 9. Turn off tech one to two hours before bed. Reading a book is more relaxing and

always with comfort. Often birthday parties take place during the week after school and other times on weekends. In the second case you can give free rein to your imagination; in the first case there is a focus on some small details.
Let's see, then, before starting three basic rules for how to dress our children when they are invited to a birthday party. Here are summarized the first three simple rules to keep in mind when deciding how to dress for a birthday party: 1. Comfort is fine, but dressing up pretty (which does not mean with expensive clothes) is also a sign of "respect" for the celebrated. 2. If the party is after school, use leggings or jeans and wear a dress or cardigan. Sending children to school with something that can be used for the party will save time and children can also quickly change in the car before leaving. 3. PLAY with accessories. With shoes, bags, hats, and bowties it will be easier to make special and festive looks. For our new friend, Maxime, I chose a look that starts from a base of black and white colors and plays with accessories with lots of fashionable metallic colors. For her we start with a pair of pants she could have already be wearing in the morning for school. In case of a post-school party, these will be the basis to create a fashionable look. These pants are comfortable, but trendy as they present the much loved ruffles.
Ruffles have become so fashionable this year. It delights us and makes the looks for our super feminine girls. We talked about it a lot and it's time to look for a pair of pants ruffled at the back. Perfect for a party or a special day. Above I used the stripes, but with some nice application. And I'll tell you a great secret, but, I beg you, do not tell anyone. If you’ve visited my website then you are one of the lucky and very fortunate people in this world who may have the opportunity to live full-time or part-time in a city that really is Paradise. In Naples, we have come to appreciate the pure beauty of our surroundings. We have lovely sandy beaches with clear water and an abundance of marine life surrounding us. I can’t remember the last time I went to the Naples Pier and didn’t see several dolphins playing in the surf and putting on a show for the tourists to rave over. Trust me, it never grows old. We have the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see. Tourists and locals alike flock to the beach every night to see the colorful skies as the sun sinks past the horizon; perhaps, if you are lucky, you will be one of the few who see the infamous “green flash”.
Our downtown areas are lined with royal palms and multitudes of colorful flowers at all times of the year. Upscale boutiques and tasty treats are plentiful, along with excellent dining options. You will find plenty of culture in our fair city with the Naples Philharmonic (Artis), the Sugden Theatre, the Naples Zoo, many museums and galleries, and incredible shopping. Naples truly is a world-class city!! Everywhere you go you will be amazed by the beauty that surrounds us. The stresses that go along with living in a big city and those gray winter days seem to fade as you spend time in Naples. Perhaps it's just the

Heart of Health Noom - A Health App

To start the New Year, I'd like to figure out a way to keep my New Years Resolution of getting in better shape and being a great example for my family. I was researching apps on my phone that offered exercise or healthy recipes. While I was doing my research, in my Facebook feed was a sponsored post about a company called NOOM.
I've started to track my weight and the numbers are going down, which is exciting! I set some exercise goals with the health coach and discussed tracking my food and how I could make good food choices and swap foods for other options.
Noom was started in 2008 and their mission is to help people around the world enjoy healthier lives through better nutrition and exercise.
The program takes me through lessons on a daily basis of how our minds play tricks on us and what we can do to address the elephant in the room. It's a fun approach to understand weight struggles and how to figure out a healthy lifestyle.
They create fun and easy-to-use mobile apps that provide intelligent nutrition and exercise coaching.
They have a section called Do More and that includes a whole list of exercise ideas and plans. They also have recipes and meal planning.
What I liked was the ability to have a personal coach on my phone that I can text if I'm struggling with my journey.
One of the sections that was added after my first week was a pedometer and it tracks my steps for the day. When I reach my goal they reset it for the next day with a higher number to reach.
I decided to give the program a try as the psychology based fitness teaching that they offer intrigued me. Once I started the program, I checked in on my app every morning for my daily weigh-in. Then I learned several tips on how low calorie dense foods provide more filling when I want a snack. Grapes, fruit, and veggies are great choices, along with sweet potatoes, corn, and seafood. The more water the fruit contains the more filling it will be for you. Dried raisins are good but plump fresh grapes are a better choice. I've also enjoyed the individual coaching that is provided once a week. I check in with the assigned coach and he gives me tips and goals for the week. They have a group coach too and she puts in motivational quotes and healthy topics to review during the week. The group is there to support each other and see what we do when things get hard or what we are proud of accomplishing.
I would recommend this app for those who don't have the time to spend in the gym or have trouble getting fit on your own. It's super easy to use and the lessons are full of interesting concepts to help you understand how to make better health decisions. Kitchen Corner Chicken Breast with Mushroom Cream Sauce by Cheryl Flothe For a sophisticated, but easy dinner, Chicken Breasts with Mushroom Cream Sauce can be whipped up quickly. This meal is delicious served with rice or pasta. Put together a salad and add bread and you’ll have an excellent dinner your family or company will love.
Directions
Ingredients • 4 – 5 ounce boneless, skinless chicken breasts, trimmed and tenders removed (see note) • 1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper • ½ teaspoon salt • 2 tablespoon canola oil • 2 medium shallots, minced • 2 cup thinly sliced shiitake mushroom caps • 4 tablespoons dry vermouth, or dry white wine • 1/2 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth (if using regular chicken broth, you might reduce salt to taste) • 4 tablespoons heavy cream • 4 tablespoons minced fresh chives, or scallion greens

1. Season both sides of chicken with salt and pepper. 2. Heat oil in medium skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook, turning once or twice. Adjust the heat to keep chicken from burning. Cook 12 to 16 minutes until brown and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 165°F. Transfer plate and cover with foil to keep warm. 3. Add shallots to the pan and cook about 30 seconds, stirring until fragrant. Add mushrooms; cook about 2 minutes until tender, stirring occasionally. Pour in vermouth (or wine) and simmer about 1 minute until almost evaporated, scraping up any browned bits. Pour in broth and cook 1 to 2 minutes until reduced by half. Stir in cream and chives or scallions; return to simmer. Return chicken to the pan, turning to coat with sauce, and cook about 1 minute until heated through.
Note: You may not find a chicken breast small enough for one portion. If breasts are larger than 5 ounces, removing the thin strip of meat from the underside of a 6-ounce breast (the “tender)— removes about 1 ounce of meat and yields a perfect 5-ounce portion. Wrap and freeze the tenders for other dishes. Makes 4 servings.

Passion & Purpose To me that is what life is all about. Being passionate about what I do, discovering my purpose, and passionately living my life to make a difference seem to be the driving forces for most of my life. Tech Tips & Apps Tech Out Some Fuel Help... by Beth Gatrell Gas prices are more manageable these days and with the help of your tech you can find the cheapest gas in your area so you can save even more. Sites like Mapquest give you a listing and map of gas stations in your area along with the latest posted price. Gas Price Watch is a fun site that not only lists the latest posts of gas prices and maps, but also lists tips on saving gas and lets you become a spotter to win prizes.
Auto Blog and Motortrend list cheap gas prices and you can do a Google search for listings of cheap gas in your area.
JANUARY APPS by Nicole Flothe Plotagraph is a great app that lets you animate your photos. The water can move once you take a still and then add the effects of movement. Videoleap allows you to add layers to your videos that you make. You can add words and special effects with music or sounds. Videorama allows you to add videos together, add text, apply effects, and spice up the video with a royalty free video and images library. Add Music is helpful when you are trying to find the perfect background sound for your video. Jusgramm, allows you to make really nice quote posts for your social media. Follow Free helps you follow & unfollow people on Instagram. iXpand Drive provides a flash drive that you can use to transfer the bulk of your photos to your computer from your phone. And the last app, Steak'n Shake I used with my kids to get a $3.00 discount on our meal.
A favorite site of many is Gas Buddy which not only lists cheap gas prices, but also offers lots of additional information like blogs, tips, rewards, maps, and more. Also includes a mobile app so you can always get to the cheapest gas. Other cool fuel apps to try include Gas Guru, Fuelzee, and Gas Tracker.
