Collection There's a star in all of us by Dolly Parton
So celebrate the dreamer in you. Only you can make it come true.
There's a star in all of us, We're all diamonds in the rough.
Dream more, learn more, care and be more;
We're little engines chuggin' down the line.
Wishes do come true.
There are dreams we hold inside
Celebrate the dreamer in you.
Waitin' till the time is right. So keep the faith, you'll have your time to shine. Let nobody block your path, Allow nothing to distract The passion and desire inside your heart. There is nothing you can't do, There's no dream that can't come true With faith and love and trust enough to start.

This month we celebrate Heartbeat Magazine's two year anniversary! We are so thankful to all the contributors and those who've helped support us on our journey. Each month brings new heartfelt connections and loving stories. I love putting them all together for our readers to enjoy! We look forward to this new year and many more stories to come. I emailed the owner of Dolly Mack Designs and told her how much I loved her artwork. She is this month's featured artist. She's from the UK and has many different designs that she creates. The little hearts, beautiful eyes, and bows she adds to the designs make the little dolls come to life on the canvas. This month's giveaway is provided by Dolly Mack Designs. She is offering a one-of-a-kind handbag design. Please make sure to visit the Giveaway section on our website for more details. Have a lovely upcoming Valentine's Day!

Dress Yourself Skinny by Lee Heyward StylewithLee.com You don’t have to lose those ten pounds to look and feel skinny in your clothes—You just need to know how to dress yourself skinny. There are four things you can do TODAY to instantly look thinner. Hem your pants. Wearing pants that are the perfect length make your legs look longer which make you look leaner. When your pants are too long they pool at the bottom cutting off the visual line of your leg, making you look shorter. Lighten your shoe. Wearing a heavy or clunky looking shoe will also visually cut off the line of the leg, making you look shorter and wider. Check out the difference a lighter more streamline shoe makes in this picture. Wild, huh? Get a bra fitting. A correctly fitted bra will raise your girls, add length to your torso, and make you look taller. And you guessed it, thinner. It makes a HUGE difference. I didn’t believe it until I tried it. If you haven’t had a bra fitting in the last year, run to your closest lingerie boutique. Add a fitted jacket. Wear a jacket that gives you a waist. When you put on the right jacket it should narrow slightly at your waist. If it looks like a box it’s the wrong one. Using clothing to create a narrow waist instantly slims you.

Welcome to our newest Heart of Fashion Contributor, Simona! Here is a little bit about Simona from her blog. I live in Florence, I’m a chartered accountant, a wife, a mom, and I try to even be a woman. This blog is for anyone who, like me, has an uncontrollable passion for fashion. I've also found a fantastic fashionable world for children exists. “Well dressed children are more happy children.” (I repeat that every day just not to feel guilty…) and that doesn't mean having to spend a lot of money. There are many low cost shops that offer really nice solutions and reasonably priced clothes. I will show you! For that, every day, I’ll post for you the outfit I chose for my daughter, Fiammetta, hoping to give you just a little inspiration. I’ll show you, in addition, that being a mom doesn’t mean forgetting to be a woman, it simply means to have more self-awareness and to be conscious of the shopping that you should do (in my case, clearly, this is in theory!!!) HISTORIC CHARLESTON, SC I grew up in Alaska, but was born in Savannah, Georgia---my fondest memories are in the lowlands of Georgia and South Carolina where I spent summers growing up. Most people wouldn’t know it, but my southern roots run deep---they stretch way back to my 3rd Great Grandfather who fought with Francis Marion, The Swamp Fox, during the Revolutionary War in South Carolina in the early 1780’s! Over the years I’ve returned to Georgia and South Carolina to visit relatives, research family history, and soak up the memories. My great-grandparents lived, died, and are buried in Charleston; and my grandparents and other relatives lived there before moving on to Savannah, now just a two hour drive away.
(Above photos and the photo on the next page, top left, are from the Flothe collection.)
Strolling down the streets of old Charleston is like a step back in time. Charleston predates the Revolutionary war and played an important part in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. It was first established as “Charles Town.” Fort Moultrie, from which the first important Revolutionary War Patriot victory over the British was launched; and Fort Sumpter, where the Civil War was initiated with Confederates firing on the Union Army; are still there and open to visitors. Charleston has old plantations, estates, homes, and buildings that have been maintained and restored so people can take a step back in time to see how life and architecture were as far back as the late 1600’s.
Even the Charleston Museum is historic---it was the first museum built in North America in 1773.

The Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge, connecting Mount Pleasant with downtown Charleston, was built in 2005. At the time, it was the second longest cablestayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere. There are eight lanes and a 12-foot lane for bikes and pedestrians.

As the Charleston area grows, it’s attracting big corporations; and the headquarters for the grocery chain, Piggly Wiggly Corporation, is there. The Port of Charleston is part of the fourth largest container seaports on the East Coast, and in 2009 it was the 13th largest container seaport in North America. Charleston has received many awards: top U.S. City and Top Destination in the World, best new restaurant, best-mannered city, friendliest, and best place to live. It’s also noted for its history, museums, art scene, colleges, great restaurants, parks, gardens, fishing, and boating. There are beaches to enjoy; and it has sports venues for soccer, hockey, and baseball. Opportunities abound for everyone and there are plenty of hotels and B&B’s to stay in. Y’all come on down!

It allows the reader (your client) the ability to feel as if they, too, can create the success they have seen you create. They see you as 'just like them.'
by Melissa Haupt Have you ever wanted to share your story, your heart, your mission, your passion or your wisdom in the form of a book? That's great! Why? Because that's EXACTLY what people are looking for. Well... maybe not just a book. In the 21st century there's been a remarkable response to storytelling. I think it's because we are compelled to hear not only the success story, but also where the person came from. We want to know what the struggles were, where they began, and what they did to triumph. In essence we want to be able to relate. We don't just want to be inspired by the success. We want to know how they did it. Companies are even approaching their marketing efforts with a storytelling strategy in an attempt to connect with their potential clients instead of simply 'selling.' It's a better way to deliver a message. Writing a book is obviously one form of storytelling. But, I'm not talking about a novel where there is a storyboard with fictional characters to steal you away from the real world. Instead, I'm referring to taking principles of success and wrapping them into a story the reader can relate to. For example: taking a personal development teaching such as, "change your mind, change your life," and instead of the old adage of "7 steps to change your mind," turn those teachings on their heads and create a story that takes the reader on a journey to learn those 7 steps. In a nutshell, it's the ability to educate an audience on a subject matter (the content) through the use of a story (the context). The content is the subject matter that educates the reader. It's the how to steps or principles. These are the tools the reader needs in order to create the outcome they are looking for. The context, on the other hand, is the way in which you deliver the content. In this case I'm referring to a story the reader can relate to.

Imagine if you knew the beginning stages of Bill Gates life? What if you knew that he used to climb out of his bedroom window to practice writing code all night? Or if you knew that Joyce Meyer started out by holding a bible study at her church for 5 years before she even started speaking to a congregation? Would it mean that you would stop comparing yourself to what either of them are doing now? Would it mean that you would think "they were just like me" when they first started? This also goes for all aspects of your business. Where can you include storytelling in your business? What story are you telling about your business? What story do you want to tell about your business? Website : www.melissahaupt.com

Health & Wellness Q: Do you know "Why" you would like to be fit and healthy? A: Know Your Why Your WHY can make up the single greatest difference between people who succeed with their health and those who struggle. Just wanting to lose a few pounds will not get you to jump out of bed in the morning to exercise. Your WHY needs to be BIG - maybe to live long enough play with your grandchildren, or to be healthy to travel the world, or go on a mission trip. Is your why working for you or have you realized your "why" is actually working against everything you truly want in life, happiness, peace of mind, or freedom. Now is the time to find out what your "why" really is. It was not so long ago that I felt as if I was just going through the motions, even bored with my fitness routine. I had lost my motivation and didn't have any clear fitness goals. When I spent a summer with my Grandmother - my "why" changed to "having the highest quality of life." It changed to being the best wife, mother, and friend I could be. It changed to being lean, fit, and healthy so I could have more energy, play sports, and be active with my family. When I shifted my "why," every aspect of my life improved.

If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn: If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight; If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy; If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty; If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient; If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence; If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate; If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice; If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith; If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself; If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world. -- Dorothy Law Holte

1. How did you decide to become an artist? I was born an artist. I have always been interested in art ever since I was scribbling on the walls as a child, through my years of education and art school, and now as a career. Although many people lose sight of their childhood dreams, I have been lucky enough to live mine.
2. How do you get the sparkle in the dolls eyes? Attention to detail. Like my customers, each of my bags is unique. I get to know my customers to ensure that my designs are a quirky representation of them and their personalities.
3. What is one of your favorite designs you've made? My favourite bag has got to be of a young girl on a horse. Louise received this bag, filled with horse riding equipment, from her parents who were buying her a horse as a Christmas gift. This design was simple, yet effective. I still smile at the thought of Louise unwrapping her bag to discover she was going to get the present she had always wished for, and I think its fantastic I was able to be a part of that.
4. What do you love about what you do? I love that I can combine my talents, my hobby and my career. This is one of those rare moments where I can look at my life and feel like I am doing exactly what I have always wanted, and that's really special. Shelly Aristizabal recently bought a Living Social Deal for a Sears photo session with her family. On the last photo they decided to have a little fun and act silly. Humor is infectious. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When laughter is shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and intimacy. Laughter also triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humor and laughter strengthen your
immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use. Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hope, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert. “Your sense of humor is one of the most powerful tools you have to make certain that your daily mood and emotional state support good health. ~ Paul E. Old Charleston Style Shrimp and Grits This traditional southern recipe is very similar to one I had at a restaurant in Georgetown, SC a few years ago. It received 5 stars on allrecipes.com and got nothing but rave reviews. I just know you’ll love it too!
Directions: 1) Bring water, grits, and salt to a boil in a heavy saucepan with a lid. Str in half-and-half and simmer until grits is thickened and tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Set aside and keep warm. 2) Sprinkle shrimp with salt and pepper; drizzle with lemon juice. Set aside in a bowl.
9) Just before serving, mix sharp Cheddar cheese into grits until melted and grits are creamy and light yellow. Serve shrimp mixture over cheese grits. Serves 8, ready in 1-1/4 hours. Recipe from berskine, posted on allrecipes.com, posted 9/19/2012.
3) Place Andouille sausage slices in a large skillet over medium heat; fry sausage until browned, about 10 minutes. Remove skillet from heat. 4) Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Retain bacon drippings in skillet. Transfer bacon slices to paper towels, let cool, and crumble. 5) Cook and stir green, red, and yellow bell peppers, onion, and garlic in the bacon drippings until the onion is translucent, about 8 minutes. 6) Stir shrimp and cooked vegetables into the Andouille sausage and mix to combine. 7) Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; stir in flour to make a smooth paste. Turn heat to low and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture is medium brown in color, 8 to 10 minutes. Watch carefully; mixture burns easily. 8) Pour the butter-flour mixture into the skillet with Andouille sausage, shrimp, and vegetables. Place the skillet over medium heat and pour in chicken broth, bacon and Worcestershire sauce, cooking and stirring until the sauce thickens and the shrimp becomes opaque and bright pink, about 8 minutes.

erosion, water diversion, removal of bank vegetation, too much or too little water being diverted through them by man, and other factors. Any of these can affect the wildlife and plants that grow there. Erosion of protective mangroves and other vegetation can affect our own lives through damage to homes and buildings near the sea, loss of habitat for fish fry and other sea life we later harvest from the ocean and rivers, and also ruin some areas we use for recreation.
stuaries Nurseries and Protectors by Cheryl Flothe
Estuaries are like families---they shelter and nurture their inhabitants so they can thrive and grow. These amazing ecosystems are a mix of freshwater and seawater in partly enclosed areas near the mouths of rivers and streams that flow into the ocean. There, special nutrients and microorganisms collect from sediment and water to nourish life. These areas are some of the best habitats in nature. Young marine life matures in estuaries before going to sea and mangroves and plants typically grow in healthy intertidal and estuary areas. Healthy mangroves anchor the shoreline during storms, provide shelter for growing life, filter salt and other pollutants, and give off their own nutrients into the water and sediment.
Mangroves provide shelter for life.
These affects can be seen in our own Clam Pass in Naples, FL where the pass is being closed off with sand and must be dug out by man and machines or the estuary and its inhabitants will die. Recently, the Pass was all but closed through sand and silt buildup from tidal changes. Due to disagreements between people who live in the area and slow permitting, the Pass was being threatened by lack of water passing through. One man and his son began digging it out by themselves--with shovels! Soon, volunteers pitched in with their own shovels to dig an opening so water could pass through until decisions can be made to fix it.
Open Clam Pass Estuary
They even prevent sediment from damaging sea grass and coral reefs. Other plants in estuaries also provide nutrients and shelter for the young marine life that grows there. Estuaries also serve as a food and shelter area for wildlife like birds, fish, shrimp, crabs, mollusks, and reptiles that live or visit there. If plants and mangroves are removed from a shoreline, erosion can take place, damaging the whole ecosystem. This can happen in big storms or at the hand of man. The rise and fall of tides has a direct effect on estuaries, as does sand buildup from tidal action and freshwater runoff, particularly after storms. Too much or too little freshwater or seawater can upset the delicate balance of an estuary. As around 60% of the people in the world live along estuary and coastal areas, these sensitive and productive areas are greatly influenced by pollution,

Clam Pass after Hand Digging
Clam Pass Beach was voted as one of the top 20 beaches in the U.S. Not only is it an important area for the creatures and plants that live and thrive there, it’s also an important beach and recreation area for people. Sometimes man has to step in for the benefit of all to save something so important. We must work to preserve these vital areas---for ourselves as well as the life that grows in estuaries near us. Into Tomorrow's Music any time any place... by Beth Gatrell Most people love to hear music and nowadays it’s easier than ever. People are able to play music from most of their mobile devices, and it’s easy to always hear your favorite songs when you can download them from places like iTunes and Google Play. Both services offer you the ability to preview the songs, and will usually give you a discount on adding the remaining songs when you decide to purchase the rest of the album. If you’d rather not purchase songs and want to hear a variety of tunes, try visiting sites like iHeart Radio which is a free digital radio service allowing you to search and save your favorite live radio stations, as well as many features including the ability to customize your own stations based on your favorite artists. You can also download their free app to take your music with you wherever you go. Other apps to try include Rdio, which streams unlimited on demand music as well as letting you share your music choices with friends. Pandora is a great service for locating, saving, and creating playlists from your favorite artists and songs as well as tagging your favorite stations. Playlist.com is another cool site that allows you to search and listen to your favorite music as well as share your playlists with friends. If you don’t know what that awesome song is you’re hearing, download apps like Shazam or SoundHound and the apps will listen, search, and then display the song title along with all relevant information like artists, lyrics, links to purchase, and more. We hope you enjoy your tunes and while you’re listening, come see what beat we’re working on … "Into Tomorrow"

IMAGINATION LIBRARY
PROJECT OUTREACH NEWS
In 1996, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee, USA. Dolly's vision was to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. By mailing high quality, age-appropriate books directly to their homes, she wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create. Moreover, she could insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income.
Project Outreach Inc. is a non-profit organization that helps individuals and families in need, right here in Collier County. Here is a recap of a few things Project Outreach has been able to offer this last month. To a couple, the husband had brain cancer... 1. Light cleaning, vacuum floors once a week 2. Laundry bed linens, mainly. 3. Installation of molding, closet doors, and a medicine cabinet. 4. Care of Husband: CNA or NURSE due to Feeding Restrictions, and Physical Care (He has now passed away, our prayers continue for the wife and family.) 5. Cooked food for the family. Received donations from Garret and Jessica Innis-Gibson for your beautiful furniture. Clothes donation from Jenn Franklin.
Dolly’s Imagination Library became so popular that in the year 2000 she announced that she would make the program available for replication to any community that was willing to partner with her to support it locally. Since the initial program launch in the United States, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has gone from just a few dozen books to nearly 40,000,000 books mailed to children in the United States, Canada and across the proverbial pond into the United Kingdom! Currently over 1600 local communities provide the Imagination Library to almost 700,000 children each and every month. Already statistics and independent reports have shown Dolly Parton's Imagination Library drastically improves early childhood literacy for children enrolled in the program. Further studies have shown improved scores during early literacy testing.
