FORMAL REPRESENTATION OF SPACE

Activity 15.1. Portfolio A00834205 - Nicole Guadalupe García Bautista

Activity 1. Knowing Sketching Drawings

The activity consisted of drawing two cubes showing two different corner sections, as well as the different views of the cube. For a person who finds it difficult to draw cubes, this activity helped me to practice and learn about the different views to take into account in a drawing.

Activity 3. Form and Design

In this activity we were asked to compare two different shapes of the same object and make an analysis of our observations. This made me think of several objects in our daily lives that, although being different, serve the same function.

Activity 2. Modeling a cube. 4 corner sections. Questions

In this activity we had to answer some questions related to the number of vertices and sides based on our previously drawn cube. While I was calculating the results, I remembered several concepts and exercises from elementary school.

Activity 8. Form Transformation. Case Study

Together with my teammate Omar, we were asked to research the Saynatsalo Town Hall and to do an analysis of the building itself. I enjoyed getting to know a bit about this place and recognizing some of the concepts learned.

Activity 12. Cube Sketchup Modeling

To digitally represent our cube together with its three corner sections and its different views, we were taught how to use the digital application known as Sketchup. Although I was afraid of making a mistake, I enjoyed learning how to use this useful and dynamic tool.

Challenge 1. Bruno Munari Methodology

The activity consisted of watching a video explaining Bruno Munari's methodology and answering some questions based on it. The truth is that I didn't know this methodology or what it consisted of, but I found it curious and useful to use someday.

Activity 2.1. Modeling a cube. 4 corner sections. POWERPOINT

In this activity we were asked to locate the photos of the different views of our molded plasticine cube in a Power Point document in order to draw the lines that joined the same cube under the different views. I'm afraid I didn't do the activity correctly, but it helped me to get some perspective.

Challenge 2. Brainstorming about my shelter

As the name says, this activity involved brainstorming about what we wanted for our shelter. In my case I had two: a camera or a piece of cheese. This activity really got me enthusiastic because of the inspiration I got from thinking about both ideas.

Activity 6. Architectual Drawings

During that day's class, we were taught how to use another digital application known as Life Home 3D in which we were asked to recreate our rooms including furniture and other items. I found this application a bit more difficult to use than Sketchup, but its functionality reminded me of a well-known game like The Sims.

Activity 11.1. Material proposal. Material overview. Modular Shleter and cardboard model

This activity got us thinking about the materials that would be needed if we were to build our shelter in real life on a limited budget and also the materials we would use for our final model of the shelter. It helped me make a decision between my two ideas, but I was worried about the choice of materials.

Activity 3.1. A theory of light and shade. Exercise two: Drawing drop shadows with natural light

The same object, two different lights. The activity consisted of drawing the shadow of the same object depending on whether it is sunlight or artificial light. I chose an apple. I am not good at drawing shadows, but I found the difference in the two photographs curious.

Activity 13. Live Home 3D

In Activity 6 we had to upload an image of the floor plan of our room in Life Home 3D. And in this activity we were asked to upload several images of what the inside of the floor plan looks like. I liked that I was able to represent my room in a similar way.

Activity 11. My clay cube in a cardboard scale model.

Thanks to a useful video teaching us how to build a cube made of cardboard, we were asked to do the same with our plasticine cube and its three corner sections. Of all the activities, this was the one that helped me the most because it taught me a good method to build my shelter successfully. Unfortunately, the cube I made differs a bit from the play plasticine cube.

Challenge. Activity 3. First delivery of my shelter

This activity was one step closer to the final shelter. We were asked to gather enough information to create the shelter model and prevent errors. I made mine during the cardboard cube building class thanks to what I learned and was very happy to see the result.

Activity 10. 1. My slotted sculpture. IMAGE (PHOTO)

Using a template of slammers provided by Mr. Ed, we had to cut these shapes out of cardboard to paint them and then join them together, creating a sculpture. This was a great help for those who will use slammers to build their shelter, but for me it helped me to think about the harmony that has to exist in a sculpture of this type.

In conclusion...

The career I will study is Communication. It's a career I like because it allows me to do what I do best: write stories. Someday I would like to work in radio or television writing scripts. Anyone would say that what I have seen in this class or architecture in general is not useful to me at all. But the truth is that, in its own way, it has served me well and I know it will serve me well in the future. It is very interesting to know what is behind the construction of a building, so many concepts and ideas that must be taken into account to see the finished work. I am glad that architects are so passionate about this and I am very grateful to you, teachers, for teaching us everything we have learned in this class.
