“Cortical Homunculus #YourBeautifulBrain” By Monica Aissa Martinez Mixed Media on Canvas, 42”x42”, 2022, $5000

Monica Aissa Martinez Monica has exhibited widely in museums and galleries including Nothing In Stasis, University of Arizona Medical School (Solo), draw, the art of curiosity and

innovation, Tempe Center for the Arts (Artist-in-Residence researching the brain), Between Earth and Sky: Contemporary Art From the American Southwest, in China and at the ASU Art Museum, Tempe, Drawing with Everything, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Museum, Az Biennial, Tucson Art Museum,

Connections to the Natural World, LA Artcore Brewery Annex, Los Angeles, and notably State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now, Crystal Bridges Museum, Bentonville, AR. Her work is found in both public and private collections through the United States. Currently you can see Martinez’s work at Mesa Contemporary Arts and in the Fall she will exhibit at the Tucson Museum of Art. When asked about her work Martinez elaborates, “I consider the body a biological statement that includes intricate structure and complex diversity. It is a narrative, a holder of experiences: private, public and social. I see it as a landscape of cells that form organs, that form systems. I move from shape-to- shape, work-to-work and find myself searching deep within its nooks and crannies. Where is its source? Is there a narrative? I appreciate the orchestration of the body and its parts, of organisms and organelles. I am fascinated with physiology and anatomy. Art books sit next to medical books that sit next to philosophy books, in my studio. Both the arts and the sciences include study and practice, particular language, research and experiment. I’ve discovered I like taking things apart and bringing them back together. I am fascinated by how we vary and how we are the same.”

“Enchanted A Dog To Love” By Cherie Buck-Hutchison Mixed Media Photograph, 16”x20”, 2022, $800

“Transmutation: Tree Visit” By Cherie Buck-Hutchison Mixed Media Photograph, 16”x20”, 2022, $800

“Marvelous Deer Bedroom” By Cherie Buck-Hutchison Mixed Media Photograph, 16”x20”, 2022, $800

Cherie Buck-Hutchison Cherie Buck-Hutchison is an American artist living in Phoenix, Arizona. Buck-Hutchison is a photo and video-based artist, often incorporating other mediums into her work. She summons the use of her imagination to reorient spatial and social boundaries. Her use of layered imagery is a counteraction of the movement to invisibility that is often imposed through authoritarian practices. The lens shifts to bring the unseen into greater focus by manipulating the private onto the public landscape. Red rock configurations and canyons often appear in her imagery; a manifestation of her interest in reconciling the metaphoric interiority and exteriority of the landscape. In this series formerly marginalized women share an intrepid role in the transformation of leadership within specific cultures. Using family photos, the women in imagery such Sisters Lead at Dinosaur National Monument are magically empowered while still allowing space for all genders. Unfolding through time and space, Buck-Hutchison’s work portrays an invented American melancholy, inviting conversation regarding contemporary women’s issues within a national identity. The enchanted southwest of the future is deftly layered into existence. Buck-Hutchison has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Intermedia from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. She is the former co-President of eye lounge Gallery, a collective of eleven artists in downtown Phoenix. She was named one of the top 100 Creatives in Phoenix, Arizona in 2016 by The New Times. She is a cofounder of InSight, an initiative to deepen community, cultural and artistic practices through collaborations between the visual and literary populace in Phoenix, Arizona. Her recent exhibitions include the Brownsville Art Museum, The Old Courthouse Center for the Arts, eye lounge Gallery, Bokeh Gallery at the MonOrchid, the Providence Art Club and the Appaloosa branch of Scottsdale’s Public Library.

“Like Sea” By Casey Wakefield Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas, 24”x24”, 2022, $1250

“Interweave I” By Casey Wakefield Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas, 24”x24”, 2022, $1250

Casey Wakefield Casey Wakefield is an abstract artist who creates color impressions. She captures the essence of experiences, moments, and memories in unique and spontaneous color patterns. Her depictions express a contemplative and genuine transformation of colors, drips, and marks onto the canvas with mixed media and oil that develop into individual layers and depth within each piece of art. When viewing her abstract paintings, you will see and feel an inner working that has traveled onto the canvas. She creates her artwork in her studio while listening to different genres of music, usually based on what experience or memory she is depicting.

For her the joy of painting is to watch the abstract emerge into something that evolves from the process and the finished painting will hopefully create an emotional connection for someone. "In the process of painting, I have found that each brushstroke is just like the journey in life, taking one step at a time towards your purpose and surprised by how you transform and evolve by trusting each step." Her paternal grandparents were raised in the Amish faith and within Casey's artwork you can see an internal reflection of their way of life in her minimalist, but purposeful approach to her abstract paintings.

Wakefield grew up in small Midwestern town in central Illinois. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Illinois State University. Wakefield has studied classical painting at the Milan Art Institute, where she discovered her passion for color and applying layers of paint and letting the process determine the outcome. Wakefield currently resides in the Gilbert with her husband and three children.

“Healing Sound” By Joe Ray Mixed Media, Sheet Music, Collage on Paper, Framed 22”x28”, 2022, $850

“A Tempo” By Joe Ray Mixed Media, Sheet Music, Collage on Paper, Framed, 22”x28”, 2022, $850

Joe Ray Joe Ray is a visual artist as well as a creative director, illustrator, writer and storyteller living in Scottsdale. He was born in San Luis, R.C., Sonora, Mexico and grew up in western Arizona on the Colorado River Indian Tribes (CRIT) Reservation in Poston Arizona. His work reflects a colorful bi-cultural perspective formed by the Arizona and Mexico regions. His work has been in a variety of exhibits and publications throughout the U.S. and Mexico. Ray’s work evokes color and passion, much of his subject matter includes Corazones (hearts), which are filled with love, lust, passion and emotion. Joe’s work also features voluptuous Sirenas, as well as Angels and the occasional masked Luchador. Much of his work reflects a bicultural perspective, which was shaped by the Arizona and Mexico region, as well as the people living in this area. A small black & white television set blurred reality and imagination, as well as language for the artist. These are the people and places that have inspired him, especially the Sirenas and the Angels. “I believe only demons think in straight lines. I am not a demon,” says Ray. When asked about his work Ray affirms, “I’m easily inspired and amused. Growing up in rural western Arizona, I know and appreciate that this is a place with quite a bit of dust, rocks and great sunsets. Colorful sunsets make for colorful dreams, and a colorful imagination. These colors are real and filled with dreams, love, lust, passion, and emotion.”

“Hollyhock” By Ron Bimrose Mixed Media, Black & White Photograph, Framed, 8”x10”, 2022, $650

Ron Bimrose Born in Berkeley, California and raised in that area, Ron Bimrose showed an early interest in art and natural history. He wrote and illustrated his own bird book in the third grade. His interest in art never waned though in high school it was not a suggested career path. His travels brought him, for what he thought was a temporary stop, to Arizona in order to take photography courses with Allen Dutton at Phoenix College. That experience led, eventually, to a Masters of Fine Art at Arizona State University. While working on his Masters of Fine Arts degree Bimrose began to combine photography and printmaking in both etchings and monotypes. The mix of drawing, painting, collage and photo-collage that is what Bimrose is most known for grew out of that time. Ron works with many media: drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and photography often in various combinations. The work often involves contrary or incongruous imagery. The challenge of combining contrary materials and images allows for a rich realm of associations and connections done with a poetic sensibility. Frequently the conundrum of being both a part and apart from nature underlies the narrative in his work. Ron Bimrose has had exhibitions with his photography, printmaking and mixed-media painting. He currently teaches printmaking at the Mesa Arts Center. Bimrose has been represented by a number of Arizona galleries: the Hal Martin Fogel, Elaine Horowitch, G2 and Tilt. His work is represented in many collections both public and private including: The Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, N.Y., American University, Washington, D.C., Mesa Contemporary Art Museum, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the Plains Art Museum, Moorhead, MN. among others. Bimrose is also represented in Photographic Possibilities, Focal Press, 1990 and Hayden's Ferry Review #56, 2015. In 1996 Bimrose was awarded a Visual Arts Fellowship from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

“Lithic Waver” By Charmagne Vasquez Mixed Media on Canvas, 48”x48”, 2021, $4800

“I Lifted My Head After A Rain” By Charmagne Vasquez Mixed Media on Canvas, 24”x24”, 2022, $1200

“Tribe of Flora” By Charmagne Vasquez Mixed Media on Canvas, 20”x20”, 2022, $1000

Charmagne Vasquez Charmagne Vasquez is a native Arizonan artist. She earned a minor in art, a BA in elementary education at Northern Arizona University and is also self-taught. She grew up in mid-town Phoenix in a family of creatives who taught her many art forms. Young, foundational experiences began a life of communicating and expressing by art. She has internationally exhibited her paintings and drawings. Her work has been found in, amongst others, the pages of Creative Quarterly in which she was a winner in the category of fine art, Phoenix Magazine, Luxe Interiors + Design and Utne Reader. She has collaborated on projects with other visual artists and musicians, such as the ambient UK band, Pausal, and Michaela Meadow in her book, Viriditas: Anthology Celebrating the Work of Contemporary Women Artists. In Arizona, she had past careers as an elementary school teacher and a fiber arts business owner, concurrent to her journey as a visual artist. She had her first formal solo exhibition, Embark, at Coconino Center for the Arts. Later, she went on to exhibit in other Arizona institutions such as ASU Institute for Humanities Research, Arizona Opera, Herberger Theater and downtown Phoenix’s monOrchid Gallery, gaining representation in 2013. In 2015, she and her family moved to Vashon Island, WA for a year. The remote experience had a significant, introspective impact on her perspective and visions. The verdant coastline and temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest additionally informed the way she biophilically approaches composition, texture and color. She regularly ferried across the Puget Sound to be represented by Seattle’s Ghost Gallery and participate in the Center on Contemporary Art. In 2016, she moved back to her hometown, Phoenix. She regularly participates in the Downtown Phoenix art community and is actively involved in several art organizations. Her most recent direction of art is in assemblage and abstract surrealism across many media. She relies on an intuitive, spontaneous approach to guide her. The element of surprise is critical while weaving together two and three-dimensional narratives. These narratives can be highly abstracted, while also imbedding characters and other identifiable subjects. Ephemera from her home, travels and nature are enmeshed and pushing out from the canvas surface. Each painting is a response and mediation on the struggles and joys of everyday life. She creates works in her home studio, and immensely enjoys working en plein air.

“Mezcal No. 5” By Gennaro Garcia Monosilk Print, 22”x30”, Unframed, 2022, $800

His work is featured in 10 different galleries in both the United States and Mexico and numerous private collections, including representation by Royse Contemporary in Scottsdale. He creates vivid multi-media work that is engaging and beautiful, showcasing the artist’s distinctive style and love of his countries. As of now he has worked on the following restaurants: King and Queen, Barrio Queen, Tempo Urban Kitchen, Tio Chano, El Sonorense, Ghost Ranch and Co-Owner of Taco Chelo.

“Stak” By James Anthony Peters Mixed Media & Wood, Scorched Wood Series 10, 33”x43”, 2022, $1800

James Anthony Peters James Anthony Peters is a Scottsdale based artist who creates a wide variety of mixed media works. As he sets to create each piece, his work mirrors the personal explorations of life, conflict and happiness. Sources of inspiration in his work are as diverse as the materials he uses to create. From land topography to industrial or man-made constructions all produce ideas that are infinite. Peters enjoys incorporating elements of surprise within his works asking the viewer to move beyond their assumptions about “What art is” and address their own emotional responses towards the work. When asked about his work and inspiration Peters explains, “I imagine, at the point of a pen, the stroke of a brush or a blade into a piece of wood, I have an idea. But how that translates onto a physical surface will only reveal itself as it evolves. There’s this sublime understanding of the perceived and the real. I am grounded in the modern classics, grounded in the minimalist style, as I continue the pursuit to make it my own.” His latest collection of work blends his love of sculpture with that of painting, with subtle pops of color juxtaposed with unique textures. The result is minimalist abstraction that entice the viewer to take closer look. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Woodworking/ Furniture Design/ Ceramics from John Herron School of Fine Art in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received his Master of Fine Arts in Ceramic/ Sculpture/ Woodworking from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Peters is currently the Museum Exhibits Designer, Fabricator, and Installer at the Mesa Historical Museum in Mesa, AZ.

“Sugah Bombz” By Angel Cabrales Mixed Media Sculptures (Purple, Pink Black, Blue), Flocked Resin, 2021, $400 (Each)

“El Spooky” Pan Droid Series By Angel Cabrales Mixed Media Sculpture 2021. $1200

Angel Cabrales Angel examines the dehumanization of people through the marketing and spin that we are subjected to in our everyday lives by exploiting commercialism and placing issues in an appetizing, yet disturbingly consumable form. In an era where the masses are looked upon as “consumers” rather than citizens, he has discovered that the best way to skirt laws is to redefine them or outright claim them to be “fake news.” His multi-media installations and sculptures capitalize on immigration, financial disarray, domestic terrorism, and war in our commercial-centric society. The creation and engineering of the work is not just an artistic presentation: it is an invitation to incorporate the viewer and make them a larger part of the work itself, creating an interactive experience that merges a passion for the arts with today’s technologies and the social/political concerns of today. He views everything as an artistic resource and utilizes this in all of his creations. From the border city, El Paso, TX, Angel was instilled with a great interest in science and engineering because of his father, a retired engineer at White Sands Missile Range. Cabrales also learned the importance of community and social work through his politically active mother. Angel's work is an amalgamation of his upbringing resulting in social/political commentary with and engineered flare. Cabrales received his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Arizona State University and his Masters of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas. Currently he is the Professor of Sculpture at the University of Texas at El Paso, as well as a mentor in The Low Residency Masters of Fine Arts Program for the School of Art Institute of Chicago. He has exhibited his artwork extensively in Texas and Arizona, having his work featured in both solo and group exhibitions at renowned institutions and galleries including the Wave Pool Gallery, Grand Art Haus, Baton Rouge Gallery, MAC Dallas, Texas Biennial in Austin, TX, the International TransBorder Biennial in El Paso, TX and Juarez Mexico, The Sculpture Biennial at the Amarillo Museum of Art, Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, The Latino Cultural Center of Dallas, The Longview Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of Art and collaborated with the AMBOS Project.

“In Search Of The Wolf” By Brenda Edwards Oil on Canvas, 30x24”, 2022, $700

“Dream Chaser” By Brenda Edwards Oil on Canvas, 30x24”, 2022, $700

Brenda Edwards After graduating with a degree in Fine Art in 1980, Edwards took her artistic skills to the workplace as a graphic designer and marketing talent and spent her free time in the local theatre. She was an actress and playwright, as well as a full-time marketing employee for many years, hoping to one day become an independent agent. Using the skill set she learned in business, when the time came, she took her marketing and design skills and focused it on the promotion of her art. Since then, she has been in many shows in the Phoenix Area, and has been collected in homes across America, and even Europe. A lover of the natural world, Brenda Edwards' paintings seek to express the magic of creation, regeneration and growth. An avid photographer, camper and hiker, she searches for art in everything she sees, finding inspiration in the world around her and the moments of the everyday. Much of her work is inspired by the varied Arizona landscapes she hikes and camps in. Known for its brilliant color, her work was described as "magical realism" by a friend, and that's what she would like it to be. In the past couple years her work has been influenced by the social and political issues of the day, most importantly, climate change, and the impact of humanity on the environment. That has been the impetus for the introduction of mammals (animal and human) as well as birds into the environments she paints, with the underlying theme of humanity's dependence on the health and well being of the planet for survival. To stay in the public eye, Edwards has been involved in many local juried and invitational exhibitions in venues throughout the valley. She has had solo exhibitions at

My Wine Cellar and {9} The Gallery in Phoenix, and at The ASU Polytech Library in Mesa, as well as Pita Jungle Restaurants throughout the Valley.

This exhibition highlights a diverse collection of styles and mediums by this talented group of 16 artists.

“Untitled” By Daniel Shepherd aka Too Fang Skinny Acrylic & Vintage Collage on Repurposed Book Cover, 5”x5”, 2022, $300

Daniel Shepherd Daniel Shepherd is a self-taught Phoenix based artist who creates minimal abstract paintings and fascinating vintage collages. Shepherd developed a style he calls "Ambient Painting, "the result in his very popular “Colour Box” Series. These minimalist abstract paintings utilize Acrylic paint on repurposed hand distressed wood panels. The artist refers to his painting technique as “Ambient Painting” working with bright and saturated colors often colliding with pastels or minimal abstractions becoming more expansive with a plaintive serenity. Shepherd’s alter ego “Too Fang Skinny” creates “Vintage Collages” reconfiguring imagery and subjects in interesting and often unusual ways while still retaining all the grace, elegance and natural beauty of their original forms. His style is organic, combining a variety of images to create each work. Producing his collages entirely from repurposed materials really excites Shepherd because he enjoys the idea of these “things” which once served a specific use now years later reused for something completely different. His work is included in private collections around the world, and he has exhibited extensively throughout Arizona and California at such venues as For The People and represented by Royse Contemporary.

“Acquiesce” By Dan Pederson Mixed Media on Canvas, 60”x48”, 2022, $2000

Dan Pederson Dan Pederson is an Arizona based artist who creates work that is about texture, color, and his ability to alter the flat surface. His work is biographical, a continual exploration of his psychological babble, emotions, and anything else that distracts him at the moment. “I try to express myself on what seems to be endless flat surfaces,” states Pederson. The result is engaging work that centers around color, layering and the organization of what he calls “his clutter”. He tries to explore different ways to express it, both with ephemeral media ie. paper, found objects, along with more traditional media, such as wood and canvas. The artist works in the moment; it’s a flurry of energy, music and color, culminating with the euphoria of creation. His work is immediate offering a modern simplicity, through layering to create new textures and movement. Dan Pederson received his Bachelor of Music Degree from Chapman College. He has actively exhibited his work in Arizona at such venues as R. Pela Contemporary Art, Art Intersection, Icehouse, Chartreuse Gallery, the monOrchid, Skyline Lofts, and Royse Contemporary. His work has been featured in publications including Phoenix New Times, AZ Foothills Magazine, AZCulture.com, Visual Art Source, and the Arizona Republic.

“You Were Supposed To Protect Me” By Cam DeCaussin Oil on Wood Panel, 24”x24”x2”, 2021, $2000

Cam DeCaussin Cam DeCaussin is a skilled oil painter with a keen eye for detail along with an incredible ability to capture the energy and mystery within his subjects. His work is inspired by empty, quiet living spaces and their ability to express themes of solace, sadness, separation and contemplation. DeCaussin has been greatly influenced by the work of painter Edward Hopper and photographer Gregory Crewdson, whose powerful work share similar themes. The artist is drawn to the physiological response to flirt with voyeurism, each painting acts as a living television screen. A reminder that we truly are not the center of our own universe, but background actors in an infinite amount of story lines, and we exist in that story often for brief seconds. Primarily focusing on moments within neighborhoods during the dawn and dusk hours of the day. DeCaussin’s latest collection “at home,” emphasizes the beauty of the Arizona sky, midcentury architecture and life in the desert. “18:36 Estival Solstice” By Peter Brian Klein Kodak Endura/Fuji Clear, Dual Layer Photograph on Polished Acrylic, 18”x12”, 2021, $900

Peter Brian Klein Peter Brian Klein was born, raised and educated in Phoenix, Arizona. He fell in love with photography at a young age and ever since then he knew that it would be on a life longjourney of learning and exploration of the photographic process. Klein’s initial education with Photography was with using film and printing in a darkroom. He has always been fond of the tangible process of using chemistry and experimentation to create art from a latent image. This does not mean he is a purist, in fact he has fully embraced the tools of the digital revolution and continues to experiment with using a myriad of new digital printing techniques and materials that are now available. Klein’s aesthetic vision is primarily Black &White while his subject matter often varies as his perspective may shift from natural to architectural and even Avant-grade imagery. “The allure of B&W photography is its nostalgic, timeless qualities, how it can set the mood and emphasize emotion,” states Klein. Most recently he debuted his latest collection of color photography capturing the majestic beauty of Northern Arizona titled "Reverence of Place & Time.” This new collection features stunning color dual layered photographic prints on polished acrylic. Klein, a true master of his craft, feels that art is a communicative device that should convey, and even at times, create emotion.

“Scarlett” By James Angel Mixed Media on Canvas, 20”x20”, 2020, $900

James Angel James Angel was born in Kansas City Missouri in 1968. He was raised and resides in the Phoenix-Metro area. He is an internationally published studio artist based in Scottsdale Arizona, specializing in the creation of Original Fine Art, Sculpture and Limited Edition Prints for Home Decor, Interior Design, Commercial and Contemporary spaces. My current work explores the concept of future, the abstract ever-elusive notion just beyond our control. Events that may or may not occur though are expected by some. A perpetual state of hope and despair. The future seems never realized. We are all aware of our own transience and at a certain point it becomes, not about the future anymore, but the quality of life in our time remaining. This is a time of great reflection. What will I leave behind? It's a recognition of the artist's historic role as exemplifier of the future and how it potentially affects the outcome by framing what the future will look like. This work informs my desire to contribute to the visual language that helps shape what the future will look like." Recognized as a major contributor to an emerging downtown arts scene he is one of the founders of the artist collective 3CARPILEUP and the local Chaos Theory annual event. James has studied under and worked with several well-known artists and publishers and has exhibited in many galleries and museums.
