STUDIO TEAM
TEAM STATEMENT
04
This urban design studio combined two disciplines, architecture and landscape architecture. A difficult challenge, but together as a team, we were able to come up with a master plan for a site that borders the City of Culver City and City of Los Angeles. We designed a site that allows room for a satellite campus and creative studios, to emphasize on film and visual arts that is dominant in Culver City and Los Angeles. This site is a collaborative design of architecture and landscape, and how one influenced the other to create a place that allows for creative growth for students and professionals in a variety of art mediums.

The site in Culver City is about the halfway point for UCLA and USC. And relatively close to the coast. Adjacent to the site on the west is the Ballona Creek with the Ballona Creek Bike Trail. To the immediate south of the site is the Metro Exposition Line.
LOCAL CONTEXT
TOD Site La Cienega Blvd
Project Site Hayden Tract Jefferson Blvd

Two sites adjacent to the project site was or in the process of being redeveloped for new mix use projects. Hayden Tract is made up of unique architectural buildings that are occupied by a number of different businesses that range from eateries to creative offices. Continuing west, is the Transit Orient Development that is also a set of mix use projects that will be connected to newly expanded Exposition Line.

SUN & SHADE ANALYSIS
15
FALL in OCTOBER at 1pm
WINTER in DECEMBER at 1pm
Based on the sun and shade analysis of the site with our proposed design shows that majority of the site will have adequate amount of sun. With the planting scheme, the massings from the trees can help further shade areas in full sunlight, as well as creating microclimates that flow through the site via the corridors.

SUMMER in JULY at 1pm
GROUND FLOOR SITE PLAN
17
A satellite campus for the local schools and universities, as well as additional creative offices and studios for professionals, allows for the growth and exploration of the visual arts. For many people, a good portion of our day is spent in a car driving to and from work. The Link allows for students and professionals to live close to where they work. By providing nearly 1,000 housing units, those that attend or work on site have a place to call home close by. Other accommodations are made such as a grocery store and retail are provided throughout the site. Something that is key to push forward the world of visual art are the galleries. These spaces allow for student and professional to showcase their work right in the public-eye. The variety of open space allows to bring the inside out, and be an extension for gallery space or outdoor performance spaces. This is also allowing for the residents in the surrounding neighborhoods to be reconnected back to this site and use some of the amenities that are provided.

CLOSING REMARKS

The Link is a collaborative space for professionals in the field of art and film, upcoming artists, and students of all ages to explore different art mediums. A satellite campus for schools such as UCLA and USC, the Link will provide larger spaces for the students to push the boundaries of their exploration in the arts, but to also allow for collaborative work among each other or with professionals in the immediate area. This will provide opportunities for the surrounding community to be engaged in the art world.
we hope to give a place to further art education, but to put art and the city up in the headlines and give these inspiring artists of all trades exposure to the public realm where art is limited to a classroom, office space, or museum gallery. To be engrossed within the conceptual and progress of the piece to the final product, all showcased on this satellite campus.
