ABOUT ME...

ABOUT ME... I am going to try not to just list my skills and competences, but instead give you more of an idea of my professional profile. I’m an Italian Architect, living in Milan and working since 2011. I graduated at Politecnico di Milano, and I conceived my master degree project in Paris, at the “ENSA Paris-Val de Seine”. I worked in Italy and HK as Architect and I have experience of projects in Europe and Asia. While working in HK I was impressed by the way people dwelled those tiny spaces, and about such a big difference in terms of social interaction. I’ve always considered Architecture the final point of a thinking process, the projection of the social structure on the ground and facing such a contradiction put me in a harsh situation: going ahead with my European-culture based way of designing and conceiving spaces or trying to get in touch with that culture? Architects can’t be a just designers, they have to be listeners and good observers first: so, I decided to take the second way. Working face to face with Americans, Asian, etc. was probably the real challenge: getting the best result out of diversity. I was amazed by the cultural differences and in the same time by how close we can be when we are just human beings far away from our home countries. That’s where my research interest started taking shape: how do we process space in our brain? Is there a general space-experiencing process? what in this process is related to culture and habits? Ever since I started to collaborate with researchers and a publishing company, investigating new possible ways to design intelligent and responsive spaces. Design starts from people needs and takes in account dwelling trends. Space belongs to math, philosophy and art, our role is defining this concept in the best way possible. As Goethe said “Music is liquid architecture, Architecture is frozen music”. A PHD means for me having a chance to go on with my research in the best way possible, followin a “Gesamtkunstwerk” attitude.

Object: Recommendation letter
The Arch. Nicoletta Brancaccio has collaborated with our company from the beginning of 2015 until September 2018. In this period Arch. Brancaccio dealt with projects both related to architectural design and of workplace design, in particular the project for the Building in Milan, via Santa Maria Segreta: refurbishment of a protected building designed by Giò Ponti in the historic center of Milan, which she fellow as a project architect. In both areas, Arch. Brancaccio has always shown commendable professionalism, dedication and great attention to the sense of her work, which she approaches with an absolute passion. Since joining Il Prisma Arch. Brancaccio proved herself to be highly professional and competent throughout all phases of the project. Over the course of the employment with the company, she developed sensibility in the definition of the project strategy, for which she demonstrates an interesting approach that relies on a deep and multidisciplinary humanistic culture. Arch. Brancaccio proved herself to be curious and eager to learn. She has a strong personality, but before taking final decisions, she considers available information and ideas with due consideration and open-mindedness to differing viewpoints. During the course of her experience in our company she demonstrated excellent skills in building strong and constructive relationships with both colleagues and customers. Her excellent English and French language skills enabled an effective communication with our foreign counterparts, which was reflected in a successful collaboration and a positive feedback. + The building looks different from the context in which it is inserted. It seems to be much simpler for composition and ornaments than the immediate neighbors. The original use destination (bank building) has always given further austerity to the property dictated by the function. One of the objectives of the project is to create on the ground floor an open space for the city and therefore a dialogue with it to make it more permeable both visually and physically.
URBAN HETEROTOPIA
CONCEPT Foucault uses the term “heterotopia” to describe spaces that have more layers of meaning or relationships to other places than immediately meet the eye. In general, a heterotopia is a physical representation or approximation of a utopia, or a parallel space (such as a prison) that contains undesirable bodies to make a real utopian space possible.

HETEROTOPIA can be a single real place that juxtaposes several spaces. A garden can be a heterotopia, if it is a real space meant to be a microcosm of different environments, with plants from around the world.

RENOVATION AND ORIGINAL LAYOUT PLAN The original plan was reflecting a different way of living. In the 50’s it was common to have a separate kitchen and closed spaces. Now, we don’t base our privacy on walls and separation. We want light, we need spaces for sharing and a welcome effect. We need to feel at home.

+ The design proposal for the volume generated by moving the GLA is based on the recovery and on the growth of the public areas within the building. The great rhythmicity of the full and empty of the existing face is kept and emphasized. The vertical structures has been underlined and the creation of a new order allows the Full recognition of the new built part. In the same time, it tries to make this order to dialogue with the “tower by enhancing the verticality of the latter.

CONCEPT
The space of study and research requests privacy and sharing at the same time. This space can be geometrically shaped and visually connected at the same time, this has been the main goal of the project. The fundamental impetus for the design was based on grey scale tones in an effort to showcase the aesthetic and functional advantages of the chosen natural materials wood and stone. Another Design International was in charge to renew the United Nation University of Macau. This striking building was the result of expanding on a previous renovation, where only the external façades were salvaged from the original design.

The building envelop belongs to an old construction with an historical value, reason why has been kept in all the renovations so far. The goal of the latest renovation was to create an appropriate and comfortable environment to work and research. The space of offices, work stations and meeting rooms are defined by semi-transparent glass partitions. This allows the privacy of their own space to be well defined, but at the same time there is subtle visual communication among all the environments in the building.
