CUA50213 Diploma of Musical Theatre Showcase 2 and 3 December 2021 NIDA Theatres, Space
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we learn and tell stories, from the lands of the Bidjigal and Gadigal people of the Eora nation where our campus stands, to the nations across this continent where we teach. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders past and present who have cared for land, water and story on these lands for generations. We also recognise the work and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, workers and creatives within the NIDA Community. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
Musical Theatre Showcase Welcome to the 2021 Showcase for NIDA’s Diploma of Musical Theatre. This one-year, full-time program of study provides students with the rigour and skill required to get a foothold in musical theatre.
Liz Hughes CEO
Despite an uncertain year of production activity brought about by the COVID-19 lockdown, graduates from the course continue to have a significant impact on the entertainment industry, both in Australia and overseas. Recent graduates will soon be seen performing alongside experienced practitioners in Girl from the North Country (Sydney Festival), Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Michael Cassel Group), Come from Away (Rodney Rigby & Junkyard Productions), Young Rock (NBC USA) and at Universal Studios Japan. We trust you’ll enjoy the selection of work showcasing the singing, dancing, and acting of the current cohort, and join me in congratulating them on a year of hard work and exceptional outcomes. NIDA is grateful for the generous support from the Australian Government and for the support of our corporate partners, trusts, foundations, supporters and donors. Now in its seventh year of delivery at NIDA, the Diploma of Musical Theatre attracts candidates with high levels of ability, motivation, and potential, and prepares them for the specific demands of performing in musicals. Students spend equal amounts of time developing skills and knowledge in three areas crucial to their success – singing, dancing, and acting. Ongoing tutors and specialist industry guests, during 2021 included: Garth Holcombe, Matt Levett, Angela Sullen, Daniel Dolling, Cathie Goss, Jay Johns, Laura Farrell, Jay James-Moody, Holly Austin, Philip Quast, Anne-Maree McDonald, Troy Honeysett, Elsie Edgerton-Till, Mark Chamberlain, and Simon Burke.
