Communication Process In the two-way communication process, the following entities are involved; sender, message, medium, channel, receiver, and a response or feedback. ● It is not sufficient that all these elements are in place, the two parties involved in communication must have an understanding too and cooperate in the communication process. ● For meaningful and successful communication, a frame of reference or context is a must for instance a common language or a common interpretation of certain gestures. ● Communication environment refers to the context in which communication takes place. ● The content of communication utilizes a certain medium to be sent for example oral, non-verbal or written. The channels used for communication can be air, text, body, pictures, etc. ● Below is the process of communication outlined in detail: ○ The sender sends a message to the receiver using a channel and a medium. ○ The message reaches the sensory world of the receiver. ○ The receiver filters the messages based on his/her experiences, knowledge, attitudes, emotions, and biases. Receiver’s brain gives a unique meaning to this message based on all these factors. ○ This decoded meaning of the message triggers a response in the mind of the receiver. ○ The receiver then encodes the response in a form that is understandable by the sender and sends this as "feedback" to the sender's sensory world. ○ The above process completes one cycle of communication which continues further in a cyclic manner. These cycles continue till the sender and receiver care to communicate.
