MASS HOUSING | 22’ | BKC | MUMBAI
ECO-BRAID
Project Topic: Affordable Mass housing Project Brief : Flood resilient affordable housing
Semester : 8
Climate change is playing a havoc with rainfall as well as sea levels and coastal storms. An cient tradition around the world is the solution to constructing homes on floodplains. That is the use of stilts to lift the building above future floods.
These floods affects most to people of lower income groups and middle income groups as they might have to vacant their homes. When it comes to constructing new houses, or re placement ones, the expense of updating is not usually a massive inconvenience, or even a huge cost.
In future , to avoid these situations, houses will need to be more equipped for the dynamic shift in spaces. The structure will need to be more sustainable in nature. Hence the project at tempts to find the solution for those people and and suggest the mass housing for the same.
Eco-braid is a method where the built space and landscape id intertwining together to keep the balance between them and landscape can act as a barrier so that water doesnot enter the site.
The site is located in BKC , MMRDA ground which also connects the kurla via bridge.
The projects aims to develop a mass housing for Lower income group people who suffers when climate changes create a havoc.

CONCEPT
Passing through the compact and open streets of Goa feels like pass ing through a funnel experiencing closed , clustered spaces to open wide nodes.
The funnelling effect is produced by observing the gradual transition of space from closed clustered to open spaces.

Project Brief : self growth of pat terns of a bird
Semester : 3
The Workshop examined various emergent properties or behaviour observed in nature using Steven Johnson’s book Emergence: The Connected Lives of Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software. It is distinguished by local rulebased interactions between simple individual agents or elements that can generate complex adaptive phenomena or patterns as a collec tive.
The research focuses on adaptive skins, cellu lar patterns, hive logic, and complex structur al organisations found in nature. These were researched and mapped using diagrams and models in the Studio. As experiential system ic models, selected projects were scaled and populated along the BSSA Corridor.
The project aims to focu on the behavorial pat tern of fethers of hummingbird , how it acts when exposed to sunlight, color changes , an gles of the light reflecting on the fether, etc.

URBAN ACUPUNCTURE
Project Topic: Urban design
Wadala’s central business District (CBD) has not been the most successful due to a vari ety of issues faced by the people who occupy those areas.
Project Brief : Designing for Health and Equity
Semester : 8
The existing housing scheme was a failure on a micro level because it did not meet the re quirements of the people. The monorail ans green spaces were underutilized on the macro level for the people.
The goal was to attack issues at both the micro level and macro levels to improve peoples liv ing and working conditions.
The creation of an urban fabric that allowed people to grow and flourish was important. A restricted mass housing scheme that was more effective and confortable waqs given special attention. Also, the goal was to create well-defined yet inclusive spaces fpr every one.

32 NIDHI Relocating the street vendors The street vendors who occupy most of the sidewalks will have to be pro vided an incentive to relocate by providing them with a better space to run their businesses Create a walkable network Connect these various attracting nodes and provide a walkable network to travel through the are with ease Create attraction points Convert dead spaces into areas of interest to attract people to gather and attend events, shop or relax this would also be an incentive for the street vendor to move near these points. Make the area more walkable Congested roads and lack of alternate options makes travelling short dis tances within the area tedious and time consuming.

ABOUT GAME
Investigators started today, looking out for the evidences at a residential house, where a person was found murdered . A collection of items said to be possible murder weapons have been rounded up by investigating officers and current ly awaiting examination.
WHAT? WHERE? AND HOW?
Every entry and exits, houses, rooms search are about to take place with detectives keen to find out where the mur der took place with what weapon.
SET UP
Investigators have before them a board game showing a collage of a house with four rooms with multiple entries and exits. Each player will be having a one clue card of a suspect, through which they have to find other clue cards that complete the one set. With these cards they have to find the location where they think murder took place on the board. If they think that card which they got is not enough to find out the location, they can choose not to move on board.
Each player will be having a checksheet with all the clues in the clue cards and whichever clues are found, will have to be crossed out to guess the final output.
RULES
As soon as each player finds the location that matches with the clue card. The player can choose to unfold the board to find the next clue. The movement of the player is only horizontally, vertically but not diagonally. The player will only be able to guess once he is inside a room and will have a time constraint of 1 MIN.

Project Topic: Designing for Health and Equity
Semester : 7
The COVID-19 pandemic exposed significant problems in the design and structure of facil ities designed for older adults (also known as senior housing, housing for aging communi ties, retirement communities, and assisted liv ing facilities); and the elderly population was among the communities most significantly im pacted by the pandemic.
There is an urgent need for a new paradigm in senior care. How can we design senior hous ing that is open to adults from a wide range of backgrounds and income levels? How can we design more just and affordable housing for seniors that promote a healthy life-style and encourage intergenerational relations?
