Image recognition • Artificial Intelligence – to enable a machine do intelligent tasks • Decision making • Image recognition • Pattern recognition • Text recognition
Science and A.I. • Recognize devices • Identify plants, animals, birds etc. • Macroscopic • Microscopic
• Name popular models, diagrams, scientists, mathematicians • Reverse search or image search (instead of text search)
Google Lens • New app – 2017 • Image based search, like • Google Goggles • Samsung Bixby Vision • Image Analysis Toolset
• This app is also integrated with the Google Photos and Google Assistant apps.
Identifying a plant from leaves and flowers • Easily visible above mud / water • Big • Colorful • Pattern (details) There are lakhs of species of plants. Very difficult to recognize them (even for a student or teacher of Botany), unless they are local.
Example 1
Using Google Lens app for leaf, flower and in turn plant identification • Click image of flower or leaf
Download app from app store
Open app and touch-open images folder
Select image from the gallery
The app shows name of flowering plant Enlarge image and focus on distinguished features like some pattern in leaves / petals etc. You will see white dots on image when the app tries to analyze image and map it with pre-stored database / information using neural networks.

Example 2
Identify leaves, animals, insects in a similar way. See another example below: Enlarge image and focus on distinguished features like some pattern on the body of the living being. You will again see white dots on image when the app tries to analyze image and map it with pre-stored database / information using neural networks.
Inference • If not the exact answer, this application lowers search to 4-5 results. • Using some experience, student / teacher can identify the biological entity.
• This app saves time and simplify the process of searching. • Searching names of plants, animals, insects etc. is difficult using descriptive characteristics especially when travelling in a new region.
