The Dignity of India Does Handloom have Longer History events associated to Different states of India?

The handloom sector of our economy holds a special place since it has a long history of excellent craftsmanship, expressing and upholding the vibrant culture of the nation. Indian craftspeople are today renowned all over the world for the exquisiteness of their handspun, -woven, and -printed fabrics. The operations of this business are mostly based in the house, where various family members collaborate to make items. India has produced handwoven textiles ever since the beginning of time. Despite India’s reputation for exporting textiles to the majority of the civilised world even in antiquity, very few authentic examples of the earliest coloured or printed cotton fabrics have survived.

What importance does Handloom weaving play as an Occupation in India? Does Handloom have a Glowing future ahead?

What are Types of Handlooms weaving done by the State and Where are their settlements?

The Handloom Legacy Telangana is located on the Deccan Plateau, near the centre of the Indian Peninsula’s eastern shore. Telangana culture mixes Persian traditions, which were ingrained under the Mughals, Qutub Shahis, and Nizams’ reign of the region, with significant and primarily south Indian traditions and customs. Pochampally, Ikkat Handloom Products, Siddipet Handlooms, Nayaranpet Handlooms, Gadwal Handlooms, Banjara Embroidery, and Cotton Durries all have a lot of promise in Telangana. For its distinct arts and crafts of handloom weavers, the handloom sector holds a special position in the country. What are the Contribution to handloom sector from Telangana being the newest state?

frastructure for weavers by studying the numerous weaving operations and oves living and economic circumstances.

What are methods and chemicals used for Dyeing the fabric?

Components and Procedure Handlooms employ yarn, the majority of excellent “Kora” yarn originates from Tamil Nadu in the south. Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka provide a portion of the total. The procedure begins with the selection of silk/cotton yarns, the spinning of the yarn is the next process, for which degumming of the yarn is done. Weft yarn is coiled onto a Pirn. After that, the weft yarn is put into a shuttle. Warping is the process of making the foundation yarn that runs the length of the fabric and is filled with the ‘weft’ yarns to create the fabric, threads are knotted with rubber for the dying process. After drying, the warp threads are spread out in the open to be arranged according to the pattern, the fabric is then weaved.

What are the Spacial Features of Chaatrashala Houses, how did it evolve?

What are the Traditional Materials used for construction of Chaatrashala Houses?

How are Weaving Looms characterised w.r.t. the weaving styles?

Architecture of Pochampally The ‘Chatrashaala’ dwellings, which are Padmasali vernacular residences, provide fascinating insights into the community’s culture and way of life. They are charming residences that tourists will find fascinating. The tiled roof slanting in from four sides into a tiny open to sky court with a little overhang gives the building the name ‘chatrashaala.’ This open-to-the-sky court is located in the heart of a vast internal area where all weaving activity takes place, allowing for natural light and ventilation. What are Local Sustainable Materials for Chaatrashala?

What are the significant characterististic of Traditional houses for Weaving community?

/ The Work(ing) Community / A mixed-use co-working space

Collaborative Work Instructor: Vrinda Padhye, Kavita Pradhan Site: Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai. Indian millennials work an average of 52 hours a week in their offices, which is the highest of any generation and is drastically changing the Indian workplace. The emergence of numerous new “start-ups,” accessibility, and commute time and distance are a few more variables that need a shift in the way we view and construct our workspaces. Today’s ideal office space would include features like flexibility, need-based space requirements, dynamic environments that are stimulating both during the day and at night, and areas that encourage cooperation.

Design Development Strategies

Retaining the site’s original landscape and planning the developed areas around it led to the main concept. For vehicular circulation, the primary entrance and exit connect to the main road. The longer side of the site has the commercial block facing the mangroves. The residential block provides views of the nearby play area and mangroves on each side. The green areas serves as a partition between the developed areas and the busy intersection.

Vertical Spacial Distribution

Vertical Office Distribution

The central courtyards have been proposed to help cater to green public zones and create breakout spaces within the blocks for the working community. The commercial blocks have been identified in order to create an attraction for users visiting nearby areas. Considering the South West wind direction, the form has been cut in 60 degree angular so as to let wind circulation throughout the day.

/ House for the Lost / Housing for Migrant Workers

Collaborative Work Instructor: Sasmit Acharekar, Aruna Sri Reddy Site: Seawoods, Navi Mumbai. In India, mixed-use housing is not a novel idea. The migrant workers returning to their homes demonstrated the vast amount of temporary jobs that larger cities provide. Workers relocate to new areas where there are job possibilities when the demand for work shifts from one region to another. Commercial and residential activities coexist in many places. Reducing the distance travelled for jobs and shopping by placing business activities adjacent to residential areas. To meet retail demands without having to drive far, a mixed-use residential neighbourhood is best. Based on the needs of the tenants, this design project will create readily replicable modular mixed-use housing.

Collaborative Work Instructor: Sangamitra Barthak, Bhagyasshree Ramkrishna Site: Seawoods, Navi Mumbai. One of several important sites for which MMRDA is the special planning authority is BKC; at the moment, this complex has the same status as Nariman Point. Additionally, it generates more than two lakh employment and is the ideal response to anticipated development in commercial and office activity. Our goal in building BKC E-Block is to make BKC more livable and accessible while responding to its surroundings, such as the Mithi riverfront development, addressing the neighborhood’s congestion, and offering dynamic areas for the growth of connectedness. This is possible because to growing business routes, rising demand for housing, and social facilities that knit the neighbourhood together.

PiCA | Semester V | Year 2019

Instructor: Shubhangi Bhide, Abhijit Sahasrabhude Site: Khandeshwar, Navi Mumbai. Hostel for Working Professionals may serve as the first residential setting in which the phenomena of behavioural change in individuals. The most important feature of this restructuring relates to new technology, particularly social networks, which provide a constant link to the outside world. In actuality, there are more and more exchanges between people thanks to a network of connections that is gradually spreading over the entire planet. The suggested design is centred on a fresh interpretation of contemporary domestic space in response to the modern need to define Home as a location for both uniqueness and gathering in order to be a member of the community. This inspired us to consider fresh architectural concepts, including the idea of sharing, understood broadly.

Internal spaces now have different meanings than they formerly had, and there is no longer a fixed and singular link between people and/or each area. The ability to carry out the same activity in several spaces thanks to technology has a significant impact on interpersonal relationships.

39

The objective is to depict a location where boundaries lose their physicality and become permeable, so generating new and related areas. Tradition and modernity coexist. Or, more accurately, current appears as a smooth and liquid reality that is now a constructed reality from the classic scheme of Home, pressed into his squared perimeter.

Collaborative Work Instructor: Smita Dalvi, Neha Korde Site: Nariman Point, Mumbai A three-kilometer seafront promenade, Marine Drive (also known as Queen’s Necklace and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road) runs from Nariman Point to Babulnath. It has long been a well-known neighbourhood in the city. The esplanade used to be studded with typical Parsi homes and structures, many of which are still standing today. Many upscale hotels, including The Oberoi, The Trident, Hotel Marine Plaza, and The Intercontinental, are scattered around the esplanade, which is lined with palm trees. The majority of the ancient buildings have been replaced by modern structures from the 1960s.

/ The Avenue For And Of Kumbhars / Housing Settlement of Kumbhars

Collaborative Work Instructor: Tejashree Lakras Site: Kumartuli, Kolkata The West Bengal region of Kumartuli lies in the northern part of Kolkata. In the labyrinth of Kumartuli’s streets and alleys, skilled hands manipulate clay to create magnificent figures. Inside the dim workshops, rows of idols in varying levels of completion stood. In roughly three months, these simple shapes will come to life as the ten-handed Goddess Durga poised over a lion in her demonslaying position, her long spear penetrating the wicked Mahishasura. Watching the artisans meticulously create the magnificent idols from little more than clay is wonderful.

The Kumbhars have established their own facilities for creating pottery and idols where they reside with their families. Their workplaces are in crowded quarters without air conditioning, fans, or enough ventilation, and they have narrow windows that block the sunlight from entering. They have clay, straw, ropes made of coconut fibre, bamboo sticks, and two deft hands that can mould the formless mound of clay into a stunning and stupefying statue of Goddess Durga.

In the workshops, there’s not really much time for small talk. Frames are being hammered into place somewhere. Some folks are kneading clay at the moment. In certain workshops, artisans stood on scaffolds while moulding or painting different body parts. Small stores where objects made of foil and tin were being fashioned into decorations, weapons, and souvenirs were located between the workshops.
