A PRACTICAL USER’S GUIDE TO THE ARYZON APP This guide will help you with your first steps into the world of affordable augmented reality with the Aryzon headset. The guide will help you assembling the headset to setting your IPD settings and everything in between.

Welcome to Aryzon Application User Guide

1

This guide will aid in the first time use of the 3D Aryzon App. When you launch the app for the first time, you need an internet connection. There are two scenarios that you may find yourself in. •

The first one is that your phone’s camera placement has been recorded in our database and the app will calibrate the AR experiences to that camera location, in this case you can move on to the following steps. If your smartphone’s camera location is not in our database you will see this screen (1). Please follow the instructions on screen to continue. Tap ‘Done’, when you have selected your camera placement zone.

2

Then you will find instructional videos on how to assemble your Aryzon headset. These can later be found under ‘Settings’ (2) ‘Folding Instructions’ (3) or in the folding manual (also available on this webpage). It is strongly advised to have your headset built before continuing with this guide. Requirements: • Stable Internet Connection (Preferably WIFI) • Enable Auto-Rotation on your Smartphone • White Aryzon Marker • Aryzon AR Headset

1. Guide to first time use In the app you will find a number of experiences & mini-games. These can be revealed by tapping or swiping up on the home screen. Please select (tap) the experience you would like to see in AR.

1

Each experience has an information page where the details of developers and the relevant information can be found. To launch into the AR experience just tap ‘LAUNCH APPLICATION’. The first time you launch an application, you will be prompted to select the type of lenses that your headset has. This is either the Square type lenses or Rounded type lenses. Generally these will be the Square lense type (4).

4

Now it is time to enter augmented reality. Just put your smartphone horizontally into the Aryzon headset. This is the time to make sure that the cardboard does not cover your rear facing camera. The camera should have a clear & unobstructed view of what is in front of it. When you launch the app for the first time you will automatically be seeing the AR tutorial. Special Note: If you exit the tutorial it can be found in the ‘Settings’ Menu. Make sure you have your ‘White Target Marker’ ready, but out of view (of your smartphone camera) until prompted by the tutorial to find it. You will be seeing something similar to screenshot 5.

5

Please view the AR tutorial with your headset on, if you cannot read the text in Augmented Reality because you are seeing double or out of focus then remove your phone from the headset and check that you have properly built the Aryzon headset and that the protective film is removed from both the visor and mirror. If this is the case and you are still seeing the AR content out of focus or double, then skip to section 2 “Seeing Double”. Follow the tutorial and when prompted please locate and look at your White Target Marker. Make sure this circular disc is well lit and fully visible to your smartphone’s camera. It is this disc with recognizable patterns that is used for tracking and linking virtual content to your real world environment. If the app is not locating and tracking the White Target Marker, you may lift up the disc and bring it closer or further away from your smartphone, try moving around, or finding better light conditions etc. until your phone can track the image. This will be made evident when AR content appears to hover above the White Target Marker.

2

If you read the tutorial text in the app, you now know that the blue dot in the center of your view is your ‘pointer’. This is used to interact with virtual objects in augmented reality. Now point the ‘pointer’ at the center red circle which should be hovering on top of the White Target Marker. If you can do this you may proceed through the rest of the tutorial. You now know how to interact in AR. If you cannot progress past the ‘please locate the white target marker screen’ then exit the experience/app. If you find yourself in this position please head to section 3 ‘Troubleshooting’.

2. Seeing Double? - Setting up your interpupillary distance (IPD)

6

If you are asking yourself why you are seeing double, it is because everyone has a different IPD value. This is the distance between the pupils of your eyes. By default this distance is set at 6.3 cm. If you are seeing the AR content double or offset, you can change the IPD settings during the AR experience. First remove your smartphone carefully from the Aryzon headset. Hold your phone horizontally and you will see the Aryzon logo at the bottom center of your screen. Tap this logo (6).

7

This is the developers menu, now tap ‘Advanced Settings’, this will bring you to the calibration page (7). Screen Width: This is the width of your smartphone screen in cm, you can check this either by manually measuring your screen width, or looking it up online. Alternatively tapping ‘Reset Screen Width’ will reset the value to what your smartphone’s native screen width is.

8

Towards/Out: This value dictates the IPD setting, by default it should read 0.0 cm. If you are seeing double, you can add or subtract 0.1 cm from this value to adapt the software to your unique IPD. The only way to test if you have the correct IPD settings is by trial and error, alter your IPD then exit the menu (by tapping the logo) then place your smartphone in the Aryzon and look at the AR

content. If you feel the effect resolving itself keep heading in that direction by small increments. If the effect becomes worse, head the other way. Left/Right: This is the horizontal offset value created by the location of your smartphone camera, these can be altered manually or via the ‘Smartphone Calibration’ menu. It is strongly advised that these settings not be altered. Up/Down: This is the vertical offset value created by the location of your smartphone camera, these can be altered manually or via the ‘Smartphone Calibration’ menu. It is strongly advised that these settings not be altered.

3. Troubleshooting

4. Supported Smartphone Models Aryzon supports basically every modern smartphone on the market. Specifcally any OS running Android 4.4 or higher and IOS v9 and above. However, there are some exceptions. The following smartphones are not compatible with Aryzon: • Nexus X5 - (Due to camera issues) • All Windows phones running microsoft’s OS. Special note: a hardware gyroscope is required for gravity based games and other AR interactions. However this is not a requirement for the Aryzon experience.

There are multiple reasons why your model may not be visible in AR. •

First, make sure that the White Target Marker (found in the Aryzon Kit) is in full view of your rear facing smartphone camera. This means that the White Target Marker should be well lit, and your camera’s view is unobstructed. You can move around the marker, or pick up the marker and move it closer and further from your camera until the tracking algorithm recognizes the target pattern. Take care not to cover your smartphone camera with your fingers.

The Aryzon headset works best indoors under regular lighting conditions. The AR experience will be hindered by overlit environments including outdoors on sunny days or over lit work areas. A cozy living room environment is the ideal place to experience and immerse yourself into 3D AR.

The Aryzon App makes use of the White Target Marker. The dark shaded marker should be kept in a safe place, the idea behind this marker is to create more content and to expand the possibilities that developers have. Dual marker content is on it’s way, and will require the dark marker image.

If you are still having trouble make sure that your smartphone falls under the Supported Smartphone Models listed in section 4.
