Nifty Magazine Controversy
“Have it”
“I wasn’t Cautious”
“It’s scary because You never know”
Why do these models no longer want the spotlight? Would you know what do if you arrived to a job site and it wasn’t what you expected? These models had some dramatic experience dealing with the industry of modeling. Read their stories, it cost you your reputation. Melinda, a quite girl from Omaha, Nebraska ventured out to pursue her career in modeling. She booked numerous gigs and soon felt like she was able to try new things. So Melinda, book this opportunity that she found online to do a test shot with a supposedly “well known” photographer. She was asked to show up at his home studio with a swimsuit he provided for her from a high end designer. Melinda showed up following instructions and ended up going into this person’s basement where he forced himself onto her. She managed to get away and tell authorities about her experience and this phony photographer faced charges and jail time. Stacey, another beautiful model from a small town, which she wishes not to be revealed, had a similar encounter. Instead she was shooting for an ad for a photographer for a nude art photo shoot. Stacey did not feel threatened on set but after the session was over she felt violated. She tried to contact the photographer for prints, as agreed that they would be provided, and received no response. She then did a bit of research, and discovers her pictures were all over the web on pornographic sites. Stacey hired a lawyer and luckily won her case. This story about Nicole is extremely touching, not only was her reputation effected so was her dignity. After a gone-bad experience with a scam artist who put her pictures all over the web, he posted videos of the model changing in his dressing room and falsely animated her doing sexual acts and he sold them to other provocative sites. The scary part about her story is that this scam artist broke into a studio and used another company’s studio and documents to convince her he was legit. He has not been found and is still out their preying on victims. Beware, this is not a joke and is a very serious matter. Make sure you know about your client’s company and who you are working with. Call and verify to get as much information as you possible can if you are unsure, you can never be too certain. If something sounds too good to be true there could be a catch, don’t like your reputation be one like these girls. Check with the AFTRA, anti-scam sites, and the better business bureau to assure you will not become a victim. If you have a similar story please let us know, it could help our models in great measures. Please email our editors at editors@niftyMag.com, never be unaware.

he’s not your average. Our beautiful cover model is Miss Casey Messer, former Miss New Mexico, history of Nifty Magazine. This pageant beauty has put in hard work and dedication as its now starting to pay off. Casey never expected that she would have gotten as far as she did, but others knew there was something there. Entering into this world as an Alaskan, Casey’s parents couldn’t have imagined a big move to New Mexico would win her the title. Noted as one of her biggest accomplishments in her life, Casey Messer was given the Miss New Mexico USA title of 2007. Competing with hundreds of girls for the crown Casey blew the judges away with her beauty and well rounded personality. Some might feel they have reached their peak at Casey’s level, but she knows this is only the beginning. With a attractive resume and some great experience in her favor, you might ask yourself what else is left for her? If you think she is done making a foundation in this industry, you’ll be amazed at what she has in store for you!!! Check her out and lets take some notes.

“My mom loves football and my dad loves to play golf and ride his Harley they are NOT pageant parents. But the night I won Miss New Mexico USA my mom was crying and my dad had tears in his eyes. I knew I had made them proud! They definitely keep me motivated! There Are times when I get discouraged and it’s always my friends

and family who lift my spirits.”
Nifty Magazine had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Casey Messer about everything going on with her busy life. After our interview with her our editors absolutely adored her as you will too. Casey is such an inspiring, personable, and beautiful individual. Don’t let us tell you how great she is, read for yourself and we guarantee you will feel the same. Nifty: Hello Casey, even though we have become very familiar with you in these past couple of months, we would like our readers to feel the same. Lets us know about you, where are you from? Casey Messer: “I was born in Alaska and I moved to New Mexico when I was ten. (I have been here for most of my life) So I claim New Mexico as home.” Nifty: Wow, who would have known you were born in another state and was given the title of another. A lot of people would just assume that you were born in New Mexico, that’s wonderful that now you have a huge history there now. Can you please tell us about what your work and educational background were in school? Casey Messer: “I graduated from New Mexico State University with a BA in Journalism Mass Communications. My first job in college was working as the weather girl for News 22, the local college station. I thought I wanted to be an anchorwoman… but thanks to an internship I realized news wasn’t for me.” Nifty: That must have been very helpful to have had that internship. Since we know that News reporting is out of the question, what do you like to do in your free time? Casey Messer: “I love staying active! I enjoy soccer, Pilates, running, skiing, surfing and I just recently got into rock climbing.” Nifty: Sounds like you are very adventurous, and you have such a great personality that was adored most by Nifty Magazine. It was one of the main reasons why we wanted to have you as our cover model. Can you tell us how you felt, when you found out that you were going to be in our first issue as our cover model? Casey Messer: “I was completely shocked and excited at the same time! Landing the cover of a magazine that many people will read is a big deal. It’s something many girls dream about.” Nifty: I do agree, it is a big deal to be the first of anything, especially in this industry of modeling and fashion. Nifty is truly proud to have you on our cover, it is a great honor. We would like to know how you found us and what were you expecting from Nifty Magazine. Casey Messer: “I (was) spend(ing) a lot of time surfing the internet and it was by pure chance that I even found the ad for Nifty. I knew it was a magazine that was looking for a cover model; I was on a New Mexico website so I thought it was a local New Mexico magazine. I had no idea it was something that would be distributed across the U.S.!” 24

th What does Caseyy thi gaz ³ Nifty is a magaz help aspiring mo ut t face out Quoted By Cas
Nifty: Lets look back at your life a little, when did you start modeling and taking it seriously? Casey Messer: “I got into modeling and film while in college (and) I loved it. Now that I’m out of school my career (in modeling) is a top priority.” Nifty: So what are your biggest accomplishments you feel you have achieved so far? Casey Messer: “My biggest accomplishment (in) modeling, up to this point, would be landing on the cover of Nifty. One of my goals I wanted to accomplish as Miss New Mexico USA was to be on the cover of a magazine. Setting a goal you don’t have to know how it’s going to be accomplished you just have to believe it will happen when the time is right.” Nifty: Thank you Casey, that is so great to hear. But there is something else that we feel is a huge deal and that is receiving that beautiful crown, Tell us about that. I know a lot of people are flipping through our pages to find out about your experience as a pageant winner. Casey Messer: “(Absolutely), The Miss USA 2007 pageant was held in Los Angeles. Spending almost three weeks with 50 other girls, most (people) would think it would be chaos. But most of the girls were so much fun, (definitely) girls you would want to hang out with, with the exception of a few {jokingly laughing}.” Nifty: So amazing, how did you feel when they announced your name to represent your state? Casey Messer: “I was completely surprised! This was my third year to compete and I had been first runner up before. The thought that ran through my mind was, “Well, I did everything possible to prepare. There was nothing else I could have done, and what’s meant to be will be.” Nifty: How did that benefit you, winning the title in all?

Casey Messer: “Winning Miss New Mexico USA has provided me with many opportunities to reach out to various organizations. I spent time working with Organ Donation Awareness, United Blood Services, Cystic Fibrosis and others. Having a sash and crown seems to grab people’s attention to worthy causes. One of the things I have enjoyed most is being a role model to young kids. It was great to sign an autograph or take a picture with a child that looked up to me.” Nifty: You are such a well rounded individual, do you consider yourself a role model?

Nifty Magazine
Nifty: A lot of people would have loved to be in your shoes, please tell us what made you accomplish so much? Casey Messer: “If you’re a driven, determined person you can accomplish goals that you set for yourself. And if it doesn’t happen it doesn’t mean it won’t it just means there is something else out there that you are suppose to be doing or it’s not the right timing. I believe things happen for a reason. And we find out later why it happened the way it did. “ Nifty: Very Good, it seems like you are going in great directions and all I can say is keep up the good work. If you could pick one person to model with who would it be and why? Casey Messer: “To pick one person to model with it would be Josh Duhamel. I worked on Transformers and I briefly met him while he was filming in my hometown of Alamogordo. Girls were going crazy around him and my friend introduced me and he was a complete sweetheart.” Nifty: So you had to keep your composure which is sometime hard especially with John Travolta. We know that you had the chance to meet him, so how was that? Casey Messer: “I had a day of shooting on the movie Wild hogs (and I got to meet him). John was the most down to earth person he even sang, “Summer Lovin” at my request. It was the best day of work!” Nifty: What a good example of humbleness, which shows people that there are some good people out there. You have been so honest and enlighten through this interview but I have to ask you, who you hope will discover you? Casey Messer: “I would love for MTV’s TRL to discover me from this! I would love to co-host with Damien Fahey. (Also) Dooney & Bourke and L’Oreal, It would be great to model a product(s) that I believe in. I’m not too picky, if someone thinks I could sell their product sign me up!” Nifty: Absolutely! Casey, last question before you go back to your busy schedule what would you tell the next cover model or any other girls who want to be a part if Nifty? Casey Messer: “I would say take advantage of any modeling opportunity (within reason) that comes your way. And if an offer sounds too good to be true it probably is. But Nifty is a magazine that can help aspiring models get their face out there.” Nifty: Thank you so much Casey, we appreciate having you as our January 2008 cover model. Nifty Magazine can not thank you enough for making history with us with the release of our new magazine and being the first ever cover model. God bless and good luck to you in whatever you decide to do. Nifty hopes to see you back on our cover soon. Casey Messer: Thank you Nifty Magazine for this amazing opportunity.
