The Low-Cost Housing Project focuses on a channelling architecture. The diagnosis for creating a permeable structure that facilitates patterns of wind control for temperature management and natural lighting infiltration These have been the basis for this design into an aesthetic structure with permeable characteristics. The exo-skin serves as a mediator for the regulation for lighting and ventilation of the building elements all of which designed to reduce the need for mechanical and artificial means to satisfy lighting and cooling of the building. Beautiful courtyards break away the solid masses and further carve void towers for heat escape and ventilation. The partial shading created by the exo-skin partially reduced the heat into the building maintaining a cool environment while also allowing for the natural light to still penetrate inside. Prevailing winds flowing southwestward are filtrated through the skin like a membrane which breaks down the impact of strong blowing winds to allow for a constant and steady flow of wind movement internally, and dual roof slabs with air pockets allow heat to escape for further temperature control.

In April 2014 the Alpha-Omega Dairy Project commissioned the task for designing & erecting a 2 staged construction process for a combined Warehouse & Office Building. Stage 1 entailed the erection of a steel framed portal & lean-to structure on site. Stage 2 involved the construction with a brick and mortar fill to complete the structure by building walls between the steel members to the designated height. The dual construction phases were considered because it helped spread out the payments for all construction works and also once the steel structure was erected it could then be used for storage purposes while phase 2 was in motion. Personal Contributions: - Completed all working drawings - Aided with the conceptual design - Developed 3d realistic renders. - Completed all structural steel engineering drawings. - Completed all necessary construction drawings.

The Research Centre came about when developing a library project in the heart of Alexandra. What are libraries today? The site characteristics with this building’s typology should be more than just a library but rather a resource centre. This approach is geared at providing the much needed informal sector a reach of hope. They keep demanding houses but many of those living there are not paying rent, rates, taxes, electricity and the like. Giving them homes would naturally worsen their condition. This is where the Library Resource

9

Centre comes into play. As education become the means to developing ones well being into furthering to a brighter future. The Resource Centre would be partly an administrative government building that local individuals can seek advice, be exposed to various forms of information and exposure to lectures from public university volunteers. In addition, the building will be a form of escape for some, a place for learning and a place of safety.

During my year of study with Masters, my project the Ecological Centre ‘The Floating Gardens’ came about from my thesis ‘Reverse Industrialization: An Architectural Transition through Ecology’. The inspiration comes from the many abandoned buildings found in the industrial areas in South Africa and this project serves to restore, rejuvenate and revitalize these dead spaces. The activation through ecology develops the site into new life and a rejuvenated purpose. Through a river integrated into the building the polluted

23

water is filtrated through a biochar (Charcoal) filtration layer that helps reduce the polluted water into usable water. This water is then reused inside the building to both grow and drive vertical farms that utilize the technology of gravity and water to turn the troughs of vegetables in a clockwise rotation. This is necessary to maintain a healthy supply of direct sunlight throughout the day. This transforms the existing architecture by reverse industrializing the area and allowing this area to be renewed into a biophilic design.

As of July 2017, I was given the responsibility of being the lead architect for a 4 house cluster development project. This was an exciting experience for me as this was the first time I had to coordinate 4 separate houses. All of which were being built simultaneously on one single site (sub-divided). During the project timeline weekly & biweekly meetings were carried out, where on more than one occasion I had to take separate minutes apart from the project manager and professional team to ensure that all matters discussed were

accurately recorded and addressed accordingly. Personal Contributions: - Completed all working drawings. - Coordinated the project team. - Prepared all Council documents & drawings. - Reviewed, scrutinized & issued meeting minutes (later on, I took over this role from the project manager). 44

In 2019, tasked with a housing alteration project in Parkmore, I met with the client on site. In this case I had one of the junior staff accompany me to assist with measuring up all of the existing structure to ensure we accurately redraw the entire house prior to any new development changes as outlined by the client. This project was initiated by the client as they wanted to maximize their home to accommodate their growing family but as well as to enhance the aesthetics of the building bring out something fresh and new.

Personal Contributions: - Measured-up the entire existing structure. - Mentored junior staff. - Consulted with council facilitators for exist. approved plans. - Reproduced the existing house plans. - Designed & developed sketch proposal drawings.

During the end of 2019, we were approached by a new client to resolve spatial planning issues with a previous architects drawings. During the course of the project we were able to increase the student occupancy above the minimum requirements and derived to a more refined spatial layout that worked in favour of the clients brief. All of which was achieved by still using the same footprint provided, our involvement has reduced the overall site development expenditure and once completed will also provide higher

rental returns to the client. Personal Contributions: - Consulted with council facilitators for exist. approved plans. - Mentored junior staff. - Reproduced the previous proposed building plans. - Designed & developed sketch proposal drawings. - Assisted with marketing proposals for financal providers.
