MUSHROOM BOND A new commercial area at a utopia ideology town. Location: Building type: Period:
Cumbernauld, Scotland, United Kingdom. Ecofriendly Factory Sept 2018 - June 2019
Plastic is not the future. This project is based on a more eco-friendly alternative material which is mushrooms. Humanity’s future is bright, as mushroom will overtake plastic as the main packaging material. Mushroom Bond is a place where the community can experience a new method of using organic material to create something that is eco-friendly and sustainable. It is a place that the visitors can learn about the products and how the are manufactured. It also serves as a platform for other related vcompanies to bring in new technology which allows to improve the overall quality of the product.
Cumbernauld was founded on a set of utopian principles built on the post-war optimism for a brighter future. In 1955, Cumbernauld was designed to allocate more people to this area due to overcrowding in Glasgow city. However, the plans fell over in a few decades. During its peak, it has over 70 000 people live in Cumbernauld but now in 2018, there is only 52 000 left. One of the main reasons is the lack of job opportunity. Cumbernauld itself is a much-centralized location it is just 20 minutes away from Glasgow and 40 minutes away from Edinburgh. Therefore the community living in Cumbernauld tends to go either of this two locations to look for a better job opportunity. Having the idea of Cumbernauld being an eco-friendly industrial that provides job and to create new products which revolve around mushrooms. Therefore I believe if new technology were to implicated in this area, Cumbernauld would relive again.
Reserved public walkways and create a new pathway for existing community.
Hierachy of the factory where the visitors is above the factory and test housing unit are at the back. Prototype housing is the next evolution of houses.
The design allows the visitor have a clear vision of the process of making the product down in the factory.
Up in the visitor row there’s a viewing deck which allows uninterrupted view towards Cumbernauld. The towers which are made from Mushroom bricks are the new beacons of Cumbernauld.

1// Sorting The very first process of making a mycelium product. All the organic waste and plastic waste will be processed and sorted. Plastic waste produce by Cumbernauld will send to the growing towers and devour by mushroom. 2 // Cleaning After sorting the waste material, all the materials needs to be cleaned and sterilised in order to further use it. It passes through cleaning and sterilised chamber by a converyor belt. 3 // Laboratary In the laboratary, experiments happens and research new and better ways of manufacture mycelium products. 4 // Mixing After cleaning, all the raw materials ( substrate ) will come here to mix with mycelium. 5 // Growing phase 1 The fully mixed material ( substrate + mycelium ) are placed in a temperature and light controlled environment for optimum growth.

THE WATER RHYTHM A civic cynosure for Govan Location: Govan, Scotland, United Kingdom. Building type: Theatre Period: Sept 2017 - June 2018
Govan is a very quiet and dull place due to its greatly decreasing population. The sad reality is that Govan used to be one of the most famous place in the world because of its ship building legacy. The younger generation people of Govan tend to flee ts nest to search for a better job opportunity at the nearest city which is Glasgow. The lack of common places like cafe ond hangout spaces which is also one of the problem. The new masterplanning will consist of newly planned residentials and offices to suit the theatre and a new drama/music college will greatly help to increase the population of Govan. Theatre has a great effect on bringing people back to Govan as it can be enjoyed by everyone. The sole purpose of having a theatre is to make the once lively place of Govan become great again. The river clyde used to be one of the busiest river in the world due to the ship building factor. To increase the use of river , the water row is placed back as it can be a new platform for river taxi to opposite bank. The key idea of the theatre is to create job opportunity as well as create a better atmostphere for Govan. The theatre can be adjusted to suit the needs of current event . From conference to music or drama plays. The theatre is vastly adaptable. Govan neigbouring context are mostly up-todate commercial buildings. Across the River Clyde there is a Musuem by Zaha Hadid and on the right side of the site there is SSE centre which host many types of event.
The river is and always will be one of the most important element in town planning. By building a man made lake will greatly enhance the experience of the area. It serves as the purpose of having a boat storage as well as in to increase the usage of the river. Govan itself has one historical park which is on the far west of the town - Elder park. However, this park is far from the town and to propose a garden right in the centre of the area will surely bring the community to hang out at the space. Drama/music College is placed on the west side of the site as it is a strategic location which the user from the building can enter directly to the The Water Rhytem vTheater. It serves a great purpose of educating the community about the importance of art conservation.A new residential and commercial as well as offices scheme is much more organized. It is surrounded by natural elements which is the plants and the ever important river. The old residential from the site will be allocated in the building.
The Water Rhytem Theatre is located in the middle of the site as it serves as bridge connecting both of the new areas. Everytime a water transport needed to come in to the area it always have to pass by underneath the theatre which makes it even more interesting. The theatre is located at a strategic location where it has the views as well as receiving natural sunlight which serves as a natural heating method. The position of the theatre also related back to the two parts of the area. One, the west side of the theatre is for the college to enter from the service side. Second, the commercial/residential area are link with the east sivde of the theatre where it is the main entrance of the building.

Two sections The theatre is devided into three parts where two secondary spaces act as a support for the upper main space which is the theatre. This allows a seamless program throughout the building. On the service section, two levels of workshop as well as a double volume height green room where the performers can have their preparations before taking up the lift to perform at the main stage. There is an office for the building and a big storage to store unused equipments. The public will enter from the other side of the building where they can purchase their tickets at the reception and take a wee sit at the cafe before using the lift or climb up the main feature stair for the performance. Theatre service level The performers will be entering the stage by this level as they are hidden from the main stage and the public wont be seeing them until they are seated. The main control room which controls whats happening inside the theatre also located in this level. The toilet for the audiance lays underneath the main entrance which can be seen above the diagram. There is an open viewing deck for the audiance to enjoy the view towards th river and east part of Govan. Structure There are only four columns connecting with two trusses act as the main supporting strcuture for theatre which makes entire building felt as it its hanging in the air. The structure design of the building allows a large span accross and it also provide spaces for the services such as the air ventilation system to run throughout the entire building. Facade treatment The entire faรงade of the theatre is covered with acid etch glass. It gives the faรงade other uses instead of just being a decoration. The main fire escape are located at all side of the building as its essential to escape the building as efficient as possible. The fire stair is hidden behind a cover for the purpose of enhancing the building aesthetic.
COMMUNITY LIBRARY
An opportunity to revive the community of Brickfields. Location: Brickfields, Malaysia Building type: Library Period: June 2015 - Dec 2015
The community library is a place for the young and the old to have a chance of learning something new. Giving the situation at there, it is quite run down. With a community library become the center piece of Brickfields, it is possible to enhance the overall quality of life at Brickfields. Brickfields is Kuala Lumpur’s little India and it is located in a very strategic place which is just the south part or the city center. The main road, Jalan Tun Sambathan which is use to called Brickfield, is lined end to end with shops selling Indian clothing, provisions and food stuff. Brickfield is currently undergoing a makeover with a lot of newer buildings coming towards the area.
The site for the community library is located just right along the streets of YMCA. The space is very compact but yet the design of the community library allows of for a variety of programmes. The purpose of the community library is to give the community a place where they can hangout and gain knowledge at the same time. However, the area is not really developed yet. Thus, it doesn’t really feel safe from my personal experience and from the interviews that i did with the locals. To counter this problem, he site is introduced with a public 24 Hour park. The park will consist a higher floor to ceiling space where it can be easily see through from the front to the back alley. A CafÊ which will operate the same time as the public park itself. The reason for the cafÊ to be in the library for 24 hours is because by the simple reason of not wasting time. Whenever the library closes, visitors can still spend their time reading books down at the cafe or the garden. A garden is located behind of the library to create a filter and a buffer for the market.
