APC Can’t Not Be Distracted - Idaomi
Shun Acts Capable Of Scuttling Democracy, APC Chieftain Warns By RICHARD OKORO-EWEKA/OSAZEE UGIAGBE
A POLITICAL analyst and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Mr. Tobi Idaomi has warned political actors against acts capable of scuttling the present political dispensation.
Idaomi who spoke against the backdrop of current political intransigents among some political actors in the country urged them to play politics according to the rules.
He condemned what he called the show of shame at the House of Representatives where speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and other
Hohourable members were assaulted by the police on alleged order from above. He said the whole world knows why the ruling PDP wouldn’t want the speaker preside over last Thursday plenary owing to his defection to opposition APC. Idaomi’s comment is coming amidst revelations that the PDP top hierarchy had hatched plans to have Tambuwal impeached on that Thursday by preventing him from gaining access to the Green Chamber of the
National Assembly where some loyal PDP members were already seated for the business of the day. Mr. Tobi Idaomi, a former Coordinator of the Abiola Campaign Organisation, UNIBEN chapter and Director of Trident Universal Ventures Limited wondered why the PDP leadership suddenly grew paranoid over the continued speakership of Hon Tambuwal especially when all the matters relating to his defection and his Continues on pg.2

A MAJOR new award, the Mabati-Cornell Kiswahili Prize for African Literature, has been announced in Nigeria at the Ake Art & Books Festival in Abeokuta. The prize recognizes excellent writing in African languages and encourages translation from, between and into African languages. Renowned author Ngugi Wa Thiong’o, a Board member, said that the Mabati-Cornell prize is a “major intervention in the struggle for writing in African languages, for their place
and visibility in the global sun of literary imagination. Prizes have generally been used to drown African Literature in African languages under a Europhone flood. With the Mabati-Cornell prize the dreams of Diop, A.C. Jordan, Obi Wali and others are very much alive. I hope that this prize becomes an invitation for other African languages to do the same and much more.” Over 140 million people speak Kiswahili in Eastern and Southern Africa; Continues on pg.2

Speaking on resent developments in Edo state concerning the attitude of the PDP to the peace, stability and good governance of the state, Idaomi carpeted the PDP leadership in the state buoyed by the false euphoria of being the party controlling the Federal Government under which canopy they had hidden to perpetrate their unholy activities in the state. He particularly decried attempts by five PDP lawmakers to hijack the business of legislation with the full backing of their national leadership, stating that it took the tactical discipline and self-restraints of the APC legislators in the House and the Comrade Governor to stem the tide.

Kiswahili is also one of the official languages in Kenya and Tanzania. The Prize will be awarded to the best unpublished manuscripts or books in Kiswahili published within two years of the award year across the categories of fiction, poetry and memoir, and graphic novels. First prizewinners receive $5,000 in the categories of prose and poetry; second prize in any genre is $3,000 and third prize is $2,000. The winning entry would be published in Kiswahili by the East African Educational Publishers (EAEP) and the best poetry book will be translated and published by the Africa Poetry Book Fund. Award ceremonies will be held at Cornell University, and in Kenya and Tanzania. The four prize winning writers will spend a week in residence at Cornell and a week at an additional partner institution. Cornell English professor Mukoma Wa Ngugi, prize cofounder, said the prize recognizes that all languages are created equal and no one language should thrive at the expense of others. “But beyond that recognition, the Prize sets an historical precedent for African philanthropy by Africans and shows that African philanthropy can and should be at the center of African cultural production.”
Sarit Shah, director of Prize sponsor Mabati Rolling Mills, Kenya, said that “supporting literature and literacy is crucial to the development of a thriving culture, and Mabati Rolling Mills is proud to provide financial support for the foundation of a new venture in African language publishing. The new prize for Kiswahili Literature seeks to reward East African writers, artists and thinkers who, through their work, encourage literacy at all levels of East African society. We believe it is vital to reconnect the world of ideas with the practical world of business and commerce.” Literary critic Lizzy Attree, who co-founded the Prize with Mukoma, noted that while there exist international literary prizes for African writing such as the Caine Prize and the recently established Etisalat Prize, there are no major international and Pan-African literary prizes awarded to works produced in an African language. “The MabatiCornell Kiswahili Prize makes an important contribution to the body of world literature; the establishment of this new literary prize sets a precedent for other literature in African languages to follow.” Laurie Damiani, Director of International Initiatives at Cornell University’s Office of the Vice Provost for

Us Cautions Nigerians Against Political Rhetorics THE U.S. Government has cautioned Nigerians against the use of political rhetorics in the forthcoming February 2015 elections, describing such developments as unacceptable in a democratic society. The U.S. government in a statement by its Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria said that what Nigeria needed was a free, transparent, inclusive and non-violent electoral process. “As Nigeria looks ahead to the February 2015 general
elections, the United States strongly supports a free, transparent, credible, inclusive and non-violent electoral process. “We are deeply troubled by Gov. Ibrahim Shehu Shema of Katsina State’s recent statements calling for the killing of the “cockroaches of politics. “The rhetorical threat of violence undermines the democratic process and is utterly unacceptable in a democratic society. “The United States, therefore, reiterates its call
upon all Nigerians to refrain from advocating, fomenting or condoning violence before, during or after the elections,’’ it said. The statement restated the government’s commitment to working with Nigeria in strengthening democratic institutions in the years ahead. According to the statement, all Nigerians must be free to voice their opinions and participate in the elections without fear of physical retribution. It also said that Nigerians
must demonstrate passion for their convictions and beliefs in a manner that shows respect for opposing differences. “The Nigerian Constitution itself states that it is the duty of every citizen to respect the dignity of other citizens and the rights and legitimate interests of citizens to live in unity and harmony. “Language that threatens or incites violence shortcircuits the democratic process. “Political parties, elected leaders and candidates for office have a special obligation to uphold these democratic precepts,’’ it said.

Biden Voices Support For Ukraine, Denounces Russia’s Putin U.S. Vice President Joe Biden on Friday condemned Russia’s behaviour in Ukraine as “unacceptable” and said Moscow should abide by a September peace deal and pull its military forces out of the country. Addressing himself rhetorically to Russian leader Vladimir Putin after holding talks with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Biden said: “Do what you agreed to do, Mr. Putin.” The high-level U.S. visit to Kiev took place with diplomatic efforts stalled on ways of restarting the peace deal signed by Ukraine, Russia and proMoscow separatists fighting in the east. Russia says it supports the rebel cause but denies
Ukrainian and Western accusations that it has sent in its own regular troops and armour to bolster the separatists. Moscow says any Russians taking part are volunteer fighters. Both sides have also accused each other of violating the ceasefire and Ukraine said on Friday that its territory had come under cross-border artillery fire from inside Russia for the first time since the truce came into force. Biden’s visit to Kiev took place on the first anniversary of a decision by the government of Ukraine’s thenpresident Viktor Yanukovich to ditch a political and trade pact with the European Union in favour of closer ties with Russia.
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden (left) shakes hands with Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu during their meeting in Istanbul recently.
Turkey, U.S. Play Down Differences On Fight Against Islamic State TURKEY and the United States played down differences in the fight against Islamic State on Friday, but Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu made clear Ankara would keep pressing for a no-fly zone in Syria and President Bashar al-Assad’s removal. Turkey has been a reluctant partner in the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) insurgents. Ankara argues that the coalition’s air strikes in Iraq and Syria are not enough and it has pushed for a more comprehensive strategy involving Assad’s departure and the creation of a buffer zone inside Syria to protect displaced civilians. Ankara has in turn drawn criticism for letting thousands of foreign rebels cross its borders and for doing little to end the IS siege of the Syrian border town of Kobani, a battle that has raged for months within sight of Turkish military positions. “We’ve been friends for a long time and one of the great advantages of being back in Turkey with a friend and NATO ally is we’re always direct with one another,” U.S. Vice President Joe Biden told a joint news conference with Davutoglu. “We have tackled a number of
very contentious issues regionally and internationally and we’ve always eventually come out on the same side,” he said. Speaking just before Biden’s arrival in Istanbul, Davutoglu, who has spent the last two days in Iraq, said there could be no sustainable peace in Syria while Assad remained in power. “Look at how things are getting better in Iraq after a government chosen by the people is in place,” he told reporters at Istanbul airport. “But in Syria, you can’t bring peace trying to destroy a terrorist organization on one side of the country, while a regime in Damascus is using all sorts of weapons to exterminate a portion of its own people on the other.” Biden will discuss Turkey’s role in the coalition with Davutoglu and President Tayyip Erdogan. Their talks are also expected to focus on Turkish efforts to stop the flow of foreign jihadists joining Islamic State via Turkey, and Ankara’s assistance to the more than 1.6 million refugees on its soil. Davutoglu said that while Turkey and Washington may differ in their methods, they had common aims, with the United States also wanting to see Assad gone.
The move provoked protests from tens of thousands of Ukrainians and led to the ousting of the Moscow-backed Yanukovich in February. It triggered the worst confrontation between Russia and the West since the Cold War after Russia annexed Crimea in March and backed the eastern separatists. Thousands gathered on Kiev’s Independence Square on Friday in remembrance of the start of the protests, holding a candle-lit minute’s silence, many decked out in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag. Poroshenko, a former confectionary magnate who was elected president in May, said his country’s future remained at risk. “More than ever we need national unity or else the conflict within the country will destroy us,” he said in a statement to the nation posted on his website. Tensions still simmering in Ukraine’s war-racked society came to the surface when Poroshenko went to pay tribute to the 100 or so protesters who were killed in February by police snipers before Yanukovich fled into exile in Russia. Relatives of those killed, frustrated by the government’s failure to bring officials of the Yanukovich government to book, shouted, “Where are their killers?” and “Down with Poroshenko!” and also condemned him for failing to keep a promise to confer the title of national hero on the victims. Poroshenko later returned to the scene to pledge that he would sign a decree to officially designate the victims as national heroes as promised. Biden, appearing alongside Poroshenko, condemned Russia’s annexation of Crimea and backing for the separatists and said Washington would always support a democratic, reformist Ukraine. However he made no mention of fresh military aid which Kiev has appealed for. Biden’s office said about $118 million in U.S. aid had been committed to Ukraine’s security forces but did not specify how much was new. Non-lethal aid, the statement said, includes “body armor, helmets, vehicles, night and thermal vision devices, heavy engineering equipment, advanced radios, patrol boats, rations, tents, (and) countermortar radars.” The first three of 20 countermortar radar systems were flown to Ukraine aboard a cargo aircraft accompanying Biden’s flight, the Pentagon said on Friday. Pending Congressional approval, the White House will commit $20 million to supporting reform of Ukraine’s law enforcement and justice sectors, Biden’s office added.

Stay Focused
Memorise: Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and Hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour. Ephesians 5:1-2 Read: Ephesians 5:1-8 Bible in one year: 1 Chronicles 28-29 Proverbs 30:7-17 GOD’S ways are clearly not the ways of men. What men hold dear and crave after are usually not what matters to God. We human beings like to blow our own trumpets. We like to be addressed by big titles and we want the office we hold to be identified with us wherever we go. These are not important things before God; as a matter of fact, they are the expressions of self which if allowed to thrive by a child of God, will lead to carnality. Romans 8:7 says, a carnal mind cannot please God. In John 13:33, Jesus called His disciples “Little children”. Among them were some men like Peter, who was physically older than Him. Much later still, after His
resurrection in John 21:5, He called out to them on the sea: “Children, have ye any meat?” They answered him, “No”; this was after they had been with Him for years. They never out grew being called children, and none of them protested to Him for being called a child. Some years ago, at the conclusion of a seminar at the University of lbadan (South-West Nigeria), I had asked the students if they were ready to become like a child in order to receive their miracles, then the Lord asked me the same question. He asked me if I was not already considering myself an adult. This really shocked me. It made me to give myself a serious selfexamination. I realised
that I had allowed my new status as the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God to come between me and God. Prior to my becoming the General Overseer, with a two-minute prayer, I got results, but after I became the General Overseer, it took efforts of binding and loosing, praying in tongues and resisting the devil for me to obtain personal miracles. In light of this, I started to crave seriously to become like a baby once again. It is an easy thing to lose focus if one is not watchful. Humility is the key thing here. Many people have missed it on this point today because they love to flaunt their titles, positions and achievements. When they talk, you think they are the ones behind their achievements. When addressed as brother, they will immediately correct you, “1 am Pastor, Apostle and Doctor so and so”. Yet, at many times, they themselves address the great apostles of old as Paul or Peter etc, without using any prefix.
PRAYER POINT Father, please help me to always see myself as a child before you

Ireland’s Gay Bull Benjy Saved From Slaughterhouse
HE faced execution for failure to perform. But Benjy, the gay bull of Ireland, has been saved following a worldwide appeal backed by “The Simpsons” co-creator Sam Simon. Ireland’s Animal Rights Action Network said during the week that Simon is paying for Benjy’s transportation to an animal sanctuary in England. Simon, who is battling colon cancer, has been giving away much of the fortune from his television career and is a leading donor to animal welfare causes. Benjy, a Charlerois bull, failed this year to impregnate any heifers at a County Mayo
farm in western Ireland. Veterinarians determined he was fertile, but was more

Thai Leader Pats Reporter On Head, podium and lambasted a THAILAND’S militaryinstalled prime minister, Tugs His Ear senior reporter who criticized his long-winded answers to known for scolding journalists, is trying a new tack: patting their heads and tugging their ears. A video posted on Facebook by Bangkok Post reporter Wassana Nanuam shows Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha chatting during the week with reporters in the northeastern city of Khon Kaen. Some journalists kneeled in front of him to allow cameras a clear view. Prayuth patted the baseball cap-clad head of a journalist directly in front of him, then nonchalantly tugged and twisted the man’s ear as he took questions. Deputy government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said during the week the gesture was good-natured teasing of reporters with whom he has become familiar. “It came across as cute. He was smiling. They were also smiling,” he said. “It’s not weird for him to be playful with them.” Wassana’s Facebook comments suggested that while the reporters did not appear to take offense, some Thai people might be put off, since the head is traditionally considered a semi-sacred part of the body that strangers should not touch. It was the second glimpse that day of an apparently kinder, gentler Prayuth. Earlier, he smiled from a podium when five university students wearing T-shirts saying “Don’t Want a Coup” stood up and gave a threefingered salute, a symbol of protest against the May 22 military takeover that Prayuth led as army commander. “Anyone else wants to protest? Come quickly. Then I can continue with my speech,” Prayuth said as the

About 300 donors contributed 4,000 British pounds ($6,200) to an ongoing fundraising drive organized by the British online magazine TheGayUK. Simon, who funds a Malibu dog shelter and many other animal rights projects, said he heard about Benjy’s case through friends at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals pressure group. He said he was happy to donate the full original cash target to buy Benjy and ship him to England. “All animals have a dire destiny in the meat trade, but to kill this bull because he’s gay would’ve been a double tragedy,” Simon said in a statement. “It thrills me to help PETA and ARAN make Benjy’s fate a sanctuary rather than a sandwich.” ARAN campaigns director John Carmody said Simon and other donors were buying the bull “a one-way ticket to freedom.”

Dog Has Its Day As Mayor Of A previously unknown San Francisco female Chihuahua named Frida has won her first political office, being named Mayor of San Francisco for the day as part of a campaign to support the city’s animal shelter. Frida, whose owner bid $5,000 for the privilege, will spend her special day touring Bay Area landmarks and receiving a commendation from the Board of Supervisors, according to a spokeswoman with the city and county Department of Animal Care and Control said. Her honor will then be shown around city hall and
presented with a retirement package that includes a doggy bed, gift basket and play products. “We applaud Mayor Frida’s ability to rise above her humble start as a single mom in an animal shelter to Mayor for the Day,” said Miriam Saez, acting director of the Animal Care and Control department. Last November the city of San Francisco transformed itself into the fictional Gotham City so that a little boy could celebrate his win against cancer by becoming “Bat Kid” for the day.
Judge Says Crowing Oregon Rooster Must Go
Texas Woman Sues Family After Her Dogs Kill Neighbor’s Pet Beagle THE owner of three pit bulls and a pit-bull mix is seeking up to $1 million in damages after her dogs entered the Houston-area property of her neighbor and fatally attacked her neighbor’s 10-year-old beagle. Emerald White said she was trying to retrieve her four dogs from her neighbor’s yard when the beagle attacked her, causing her dogs to attack, the lawsuit said. The beagle’s owners, the Baker family, said the pit bulls broke into their yard and started the incident that left their beagle, Bailey, dead a few minutes after the attack ended in the Houston suburb of Texas City.
White’s attorney, Paul LaValle, told newsmen “I’m getting the hate mail and the death threats. They have a very good PR campaign working for the family that owned the beagle.” White’s lawsuit said her neighbors were negligent and that she suffered from mental anguish, disfigurement, pain, loss of earnings and a fear of future disease because of the beagle attack. The Baker family told newsmen it had no plans to sue White because it would not bring their dead pet back. “Bailey ... laid up next to the house and died,” Steve Baker told the broadcaster.
IT was just the first of Mr. Rooster’s problems that he was first believed to be a Ms. His crowing has given him away, though, and his owner in Cornelius has been dinged six times in five months for violating city ordinances. On Wednesday, a judge ordered Megan Keller to find the bird a new home — within a week, newsmen reported. She could also be facing some hefty fines. Three of the noise citations could cost Keller as much as $3,000, although the judge indicated the fines could be reduced if Mr. Rooster finds a new abode. Keller said she thought she was buying two females at Easter time in 2012 for her granddaughters to show at 4H. But one proved to be a male. Keller told The Oregonian that the birds had arrived during a tough patch in her life, and “those two brought me a lot of comfort.” Cornelius is a western Portland suburb of about 12,000 people and is proclaimed on its website as “an agricultural paradise, where rolling hillsides, vineyards and farms abound.” The town doesn’t, as other cities do, ban roosters outright. But it has an ordinance against animals
that annoy or disturb neighbors. In June, a neighbor complained about Mr. Rooster. In August, a judge handed down a $250 fine and ordered that the bird get a new home. Keller sent Mr. Rooster to a farm owned by friends.
Along went the other bird from the 2012 shipment, known as Mrs. Rooster. Keller said that didn’t go well: The birds lost their feathers, and then a hawk attack left Mrs. Rooster dead and Mr. Rooster injured. So she retrieved Mr. Rooster.
Cuban Couple Keeps Rodents Called Hutias As Pets SOME people keep guinea pigs or hamsters as pets. With a rope-like tail and long front teeth, the hutia looks like a giant rat, only cuter, some would say. They live in Cuba and other

MR. He is a political commentator, analyst and advocate of good governance. He is intelligent, bold, and brave and one citizen who believes in the course of the comrade governor to continually deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State. In this chat with the NIGERIAN OBSERVER Mr. Idaomi calls on the electorate to be wiser and more conscious as the general elections draw near and to vote for performance. He called on the Comrade Governor never to be distracted but continue with the development in the state despite the distraction from the opposition party in the state. This and many more interesting political issues are here for your reading delight as anchored by RICHARD OKORO EWEKA. Excerpts:

Is the personality, performance and achievement of the Comrade Governor enough to sustain the party’s winning streak? Obviously yes, we are wiser; never again would anyone deceive us with any expired rice or any rubbish stomach infrastructure. What has PDP got to offer us now?
comrade governor came in 2008, how was the state then? For 10 years the state was on ground zero, nothing was working, our money was shared among them, and some were used to pay back the debt they took before they came to power as we have been told now. So any PDP member that wants to contest for any position now in Edo state should be asked about their achievements in the period they governed the state? I believe anyone that cast his/her vote for PDP is

What was he doing at the middle of the night at the legislators quarters? When he was denied entry, could you imagine a former legislator scaling the fence into a compound? At any rate the attack was stage managed by the PDP themselves, just like how the so called bomb they claimed went off at the guest house of one of the PDP chieftains. These people are pathological liars, because they collected some millions from the presidency and they could not achieve what they promised Mr. President, the next option is to cause mayhem in order to pave the way for a state of emergency because of the 2015 elections. PDP is a serial loser in Edo State and come 2015 we are going to use our votes to remove the last breadth that remains in them. My advice to the good people of Edo State is to decide between light and darkness which path to follow. The light represents APC while the darkness represents the PDP. They should spread the good news of the achievements of the comrade governor and his entire winning teams for the past six years. They should cast their votes to bury PDP permanently come 2015.
APC Will Not Be Distracted In Providing Dividends Of Democracy To The People - Idaomi
As the 2015 General election draws near, Edo state politics seems to be over heated and the opposition party is constantly running down the ruling party in the state. What is your opinion on the political situation in the state? We all know what a loser party like PDP is used to. They are known to cause mayhem simply because they have the federal power behind them. Everyone can see the illegality that has been taking place, starting with the illegal sitting of the 5 PDP legislators with police cover. Some of them have been suspended and one had his seat declared vacant. Yet the power that be from Abuja was trying to provoke the members of the APC to retaliate in this act of gangarism, especially since they failed woefully in their initial plans of getting enough legislative members from APC to their side through inducement. They are doing all they can to distract the Oshiomhole led administration from performing but the
administration is determined to continue to provide the dividends of democracy to the people of the state. APC as a party is more determined now than ever to concentrate on winning the forth coming election so that the citizens will continue to enjoy good governance. What should APC do in the face of the current distraction in readiness for the forth coming election? We are not distracted; in fact I respect the manner the comrade governor Adams Aliu Oshiomhole has kept his cool even to the point of provocation. He knows that there is separation of powers; hence he refused to dabble into the problem because what is going on is purely the internal affairs of the house. Even his cabinets, the APC members in the House of Assembly and all APC members have refused to be provoked even at the point of provocation. The comrade governor has been busy working tirelessly in developing the state and delivering the dividends of democracy to the entire state. The governor should

However, as price of oil goes on a freefall, Nigeria is being shielded by the Excess Crude Account which Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala vigorously enriched for such a time as this! As a reminder, the Excess Crude Account (ECA) came to reality through the foresight of Dr. Okonjo-Iweala during the Obasanjo era. ECA was envisaged to warehouse proceeds from oil revenue that shoots above the annual budget projections. The idea behind the establishment of the ECA then was that if oil price, like we are having now, or output unexpectedly

Members of the House Committee on Finance have been most vicarious from this reality. They fail to understand the gains inherent in ECA. They fail to understand that the establishment of the ECA is actually empowered through Section 162(1) of the Nigerian Constitution, which provides that the federation shall maintain a special account into which shall be paid all revenue collected by the federal government. Likewise, Section 35(1) of the 2007 Fiscal Responsibility Act stipulates that “Where a reference commodity price rises above the predetermined level, the resulting excess proceeds

In spite of this constitutional justification for the ECA, the House of Reps didn’t fail every year to invoke Sections 59, 81 and 82 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which empower them to juggle the national budget’s estimate by constantly increasing the benchmark of the budget. Nigeria Will Get Better If Women Are Governors - Mrs Agbara
May We Formally Meet You? I am Mrs. Tina O. Agbara, Edo State Deputy Women Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) and by the grace of God, the Technical Educaion Board Chairman, Edo State. It appears women have not taken the initiative to vie for elective positions, particularly in Edo State? I would not believe that, we are taking it very serious, especially in this dispensation, you can see a lot of women out there, coming out to vie for positions. But you also know the problems militating against women, most women don’t have the financial backing. There are women interested in polities not because of the money but politically motivated women who are really interested in playing politics geared towards the total change of Nigeria. Men and women will have to come together to build the nation. So, we don’t want to be pushed backward, we will support the women, that is why our party, the APC in order to encourage us gave our women waiver in intend form and nomination form. But by the grace of God, especially in the party I belong, I think we won’t be happy to say that we have one woman
in the State Assembly, God will do it for us to have more women. Again, you see we have few women in the House of Representatives, and those women you are seeing there, they are not push-over, they are women that are capable, so we also rally round them to ensure that God lead them to where they are going, so, the idea of saying women are not interested in politics is no longer the vogue of the day, we are much, much, interested, and most of us are even hard working than men, and that is why when you call me a woman leader some times I don’t accept it, because when you get to my table you will see men, women, you see youths, all talking about politics. So, we really want to appeal to our political parties, our leaders in this dispensation to give women who are out for now, at least thirty-five percent (35%), we will be very happy about it. Ma, are you saying
wants to be like that. I want to appeal to the people of Edo State, you see the women at the National Assembly, they are not better than the ones in Edo State, with the women we have today, they are capable, they can stand thousands of men when it comes to debate, and they can bring back to Edo State what is due the state.
Mrs. Tina Agbara is that for the level we have gone now cannot be compare to those days when women say their work ends at the kitchen. But today at least I am the Chairman of a board, I got my appointment because I worked very hard in politics. Sometimes when women want to come out in politics, the men will push you aside one way

This is the reason why it seems men have gained upper hand over women, we are doing much better, but the little thing that is setting us back is that, we don’t have the money. As the 2015 general elections approach, do you think it is possible for a woman to become a State Governor? Women have worked for men to get there, why do you think they will not be able to get there as governor? Women will do better, women can settle issues amicably when we have problems. By the grace of God, if we have women as governors, this country will get better, we will not be going left and right as the men would do, sorry to say, I am a woman! It is over due for women to be governors, it is this financial issue that is the problem, but by the grace of God we will get there.
“Most women don’t have the financial backing. Artists Should Be ‘No Longer Anonymous’ - John Ogene An artist per excellence, Dr. J Ogene held his recent exhibition which was titled; “ N O L O N G E R ANONYMUS”. The one week exhibition on photography, held in Lagos brought many issues to mind especially the need to talk more about Art rather than just making Art. Mabel Jimoh reports: Can you please tell us about your recent exhibition with the theme; “No longer Anonymous? My recent exhibition “Nolonger Anonymous” was held in Lagos, the exhibition was a combination of a lecture which took place on the 30th of September 2014, prior to that, a day before in Ikoyi, I had a workshop titled, “Telephone Photography”. Telephone Photography wasn’t my first workshop on this theme, the first was in 2008 in Benin City, in the University of Benin. So, the one in Ikoyi was the second edition of my workshop on telephone photography and it was done to coincide with the exhibition proper which was titled “Nolonger Anonymous”. The lecture that followed it was equally titled “Nolonger Anonymous”, so, we made those events to syncronise

so that we will be able to create relationship between the issues that were quite crucial to the practice of Art, particularly the teachings of Art. Now, on the 29 th of September was the photography workshop which started 10am that day and we didn’t stop until at about 5pm. The turn up was very encouraging, we created space for just 15 or 20 people but we later had 25-30 persons in attendance; we could not ask those people to go back, so, we had to accommodate the extra people that turned up. It was bigger than our previous exhibition in Benin and the previous workshop we had in 2008 in Benin which was the maiden edition of the telephone photography. So, “No longer Anonymous” is an ideology that I personally drew and created as a template for modern consciousness of Art both for the study and practice of Art because in the first instance, Wangboje said “Now that we are nolonger anonymous, let us see what we have done” it was from Wangboje’s ideological bearing or concept that we drew up this our own ideological paradigm to say that yes, Art should no longer be Anonymous, Art should no
longer play a peripheral role in Nation building, Art should not leave what belong to it to people who are not practitioners of Art, Art should not be neglected in such a way that, say Architecture for instance, which is Art you leave it to people who are just local builders in the town or people who don’t have the background of Architecture or civil engineering or who didn’t have idea of Fine and Applied Arts. So we are trying to say that we should take that which belongs to us. For instance, Direct
Imaging (D.I) which is a technology in printing, if you look around Lagos and so many big cities in Nigerian, you will see that the direct if we imaging factories or out fits or presses are mostly not owned by Artists, infact, you can count how many Artists that are involved in the industry. So, it is because we neglected that aspect of Art which is supposed to be part of our own engagement; that’s why we say “No longer Anonymous” should remind the Artist, the practitioner in the field, the

discipline itself of new development in the field, that if we don’t remind them it means we are going to be permanently Anonymous or ignorant of what is happening”. Why exhibition on photography and how do you educate yourself to take better pictures? Yes! Photography because it is a medium that I actually found a form of ability to express myself as an Artist, photography is an art form that enables me to tell my own story the way I see the world, the way I see the environment around me.
Yes, am not just a photographer, a painter, a saxophonist but with each of my exhibitions I try to introduce an aspect of me that is unique to me, so when I chose to come out this time with all photography, infact, Marjorly photography, I embedded other Art forms like digital painting and digital printmaking, digital drawings in my exhibition but the major part of it was significantly photography and the photography that I am trying to branch into is predominantly telephone photography which gives me another unique form or mode of expression. What can you tell us about telephone photography? Well, telephone photography is a way of making art, using mobile telephone devices. The Telephone workshop series started in July 2008 here in UNIBEN with the theme “phonography” acronym of telephone and photography. There are some works on telephone photography which consisted of snap shops from mobile telephone devices which includes photography, painting and drawing. Some exhibition in the telephone photography category include the documentation of the airport road, shortly before the structure was pulled down by bulldozers to pave way for rehabilitation, Ayemejevwe, Banjul maidens, Arbitration, Abundance for Nothing and Agenebode market Day. That’s what telephone photography or phonograph is all about

ON Wednesday November 7, 2014, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards to electorate in Edo State and eight others across the country. The exercise was fraught with a lot of hiccups in most urban centers resulting in several cards not collected at the end of the exercise. NAKED TRUTH here serves the views of respondents on the vital exercise.

people could not find their PVC among the once that were brought to the ward. But the INEC officers who were at the polling unit advised those people to go and lay a complaint in the INEC office. My advice to Nigerians out there is that these PVC is a ticket for them to vote for
eve of every election. The PVC is an avenue to encourage the electorate to participate in the forthcoming election. It shows that Nigeria as a nation is fully developing in the area of competing with other civilize nations of the world.
What Are Your Views On The Just Concluded Distribution Of Permanent Voters’ Card By INEC? IT SHOWS HOW VULNERABLE INEC IS IN HANDLING NATIONAL ISSUES - Osaretin Okhomina THE distribution of permanent voters card (PVC) has come and gone. But the memories it left behind, would linger in our minds for a long time because some people saw their names on the list, and some did not see theirs at all. Those who saw their names were told to go and reregister because their cards were not available, likewise those who did not see their names. This is a sad reminder of the desperation of our politicians, to gain elections by hook or crook. It is a reminder of the fact that they can do anything or go to any length to achieve their ambition. Those who saw their names but are to reregister and, those whose names were de-listed have been cheated by the same system that ought to protect them. Again, INEC which conducted the exercise has shown how vulnerable they are in handling National assignment of this magnitude. It is a big shame to INEC. IT IS AN INDICATION THAT INEC IS READY TO CONDUCT CREDIBLE ELECTION IN 2015 - Osagie Grace Ofure IT’S a good development in preparation for the forth-
the right candidate of their choice and those who were able to collect their PVC should please go out on the election day to cast their votes. They should also not allow any body to deceive them about whom to vote for in 2015 election.
Prof. Attahiru Jega, INEC Boss coming general election in 2015 and more years to come. The concept for the issuance of the permanent voter ’s card to eligible voters is a welcome development to those who can exercise their franchise and an indication that INEC is prepared to deliver to ensure credible election in 2015 and beyond. The PVC is well constructed and more attractive than the previous cards and the enthusiastic
step in which Nigerians displayed in coming out to collect their PVC shows that they are ready to make decisions that will change the state of affairs in the country at all levels through their votes. I am also of the opinion that INEC should create awareness on the importance of having the PVC among eligible voters. It’s a good step by the INEC to distribute the PVC early to ensure that every eligible voter in Nigeria has his or her card before
time. - Osariemen Osemwegie My view on the just concluded distribution of permanent voter card (PVC) by INEC is that it is a Good development to Nigerian citizens because with these PVC we can vote for the right candidate and also be able to witness a free and fair election in 2015. The PVC can also serve as identity card to those who don’t have any ID card. In my ward some
“The problems that arose from the distribution boils down to the fact that voters who registered at the previous 2011 general voters registration exercise refused to come out to collect their PVC. Some of them attributed their refusal to collect the permanent voter card to lack of information, and relocation to various parts of the state and country, pleading distance as the barrier to their collecting the cards. On the part of INEC, they would have added extra days for the collection and give proper orientation to the public, as the distribution officers were fond of coming late to centres.”
SOME ELIGIBLE VOTERS WERE NOT ABLE TO COLLECT THEIR PVC - Ijeh Eseoghee Gregory MY view’s on the just concluded distribution of PVC are, I think is a good step in securing the voter’s card as the PVC is plastic in mature and can be protected from rain and sunlight and it also store information, BIO data, Biometries and facial image, provide adequate feature to show vulnerability and can be used for easy identification of voters. I also think that INEC should have extended the date of distribution because not all eligible voters were able to collect their PVC and some had problems in finding their TVC. Some voters said it was an avenue for INEC to generate fund for themselves and the distribution, of the PVC was bias. But in my own view everything went well, the distribution officers where acting to order. PVC WILL EASE THE BURDEN OF QUEUING FOR REGISTRATION ON THE EVE OF ELECTION Gedu Longlife Akpotuepegha FIRST of all, it is a laudable development, because the card is a multipurpose card just like the National Identity Card. It shows INEC’s commitment and preparedness toward the forth-coming elections nationwide. It is also applaud able because it will also ease the burden of people always queuing for registration at the
INEC DID A GOOD JOB WITH THE DISTRIBUTION - Ikponmwoba Osazee Joel THE Independent National Electoral Commission did a very good job in the distribution of permanent voters card. The problems that arose from the distribution boils down to the fact that voters who registered at the previous 2011 general voters registration exercise refused to come out to collect their PVC. Some of them attributed their refusal to collect the permanent voter card to lack of information, and relocation to various parts of the state and country, pleading distance as the barrier to their collecting the cards. On the part of INEC, they would have added extra days for the collection and give proper orientation to the public, as the distribution officers were fond of coming late to centres. MANY STUDENTS MAY BE DISENFRANCHISED - Comrade Kingsley Mbadugha FIRST and foremost, I must commend the person of INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega for this initiative. It is really wonderful for this kind of development in the country. However, The Permanent voters card (PVC) by the INEC in my opinion is going to disenfranchise many Nigerians since it is an avenue for one to be qualified to vote henceforth. Take for instance; someone that registered in different area cannot vote aside the place he registered. Apart from that take students into consideration, university environment where a good number of schools are in session at the time of the collection of the voters card. I can tell you that during the election at least 70% of students will not participate in the election process.

AS the African Continent joins the rest of the global community to mark 2014 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in the month of November, it is vital to note that beyond the traditional activities that come with Memorial events, a Remembrance Day for

Road Traffic Victims is also considered a unique opportunity for road users to raise collective voices to improve understanding about road safety, remind governments of their responsibility to make roads safe, evaluate the road traffic injury situation and share lessons on what can work to prevent road deaths in their local communities. On road traffic injuries, the unfortunate reality in most African countries is that it is hard for a day to go by without the media reporting multiple fatalities at the spot of road crashes. Many of such daily deaths and injuries recorded from road crashes have not only become very alarming but distastefully an attraction for news reporting. In good number of instances, the African media only ends up capturing the gory pictures of human deaths at road crash scenes in banner headlines. Unfortunately, these reports are written without adequate narration of the problematic issue of delayed response and enlightenment on how the victims could have been saved. Instead of focusing on actions that would curb preventable road deaths, some newspapers delight in telling stories of how the road crash victims were carried to the hospital but only for the certification of death by medical personnel. Whilst in some other cases, journalists simply note the huge number of unfortunate dead victims as mere statistics to entertain the public with footnote recount

incidents in features and documentary of limited portions of newspapers, many media owners and editors do not consider their outfit as vital medium for mass orientation on road crash preventability. As ready viable option, they use such regrettable road death situations as opportunities to encourage readers, patronage. Particularly, most media organisations in Africa report news of deaths at crash spots without calling for immediacy of action by the government or adding value to efforts that could

If the truth be told, in African, the media’s inadequate attention and dearth of analysis on road crashes not only dims investigative journalism, deflates humanity but exhibits ostensible crass unwillingness of many journalists to make quality contributions to a Continental disaster. Yet, every African

responsibility that is not beyond Africans. Furthermore, the most important lesson herein is that road users in the Continent can work together to prevent on the spot road deaths especially where there exist a vibrant media that can inspire journalists to transmit actions that could help save lives of crash victims, thereof translate such messages into greater understanding that collaboration of road users on Africa’s hazardous roads would be an appropriate step for enhanced rescue efforts instead of merely relying on medical emergency team that rarely arrives early. On what works for improving rescue for road crash victims in developing counties, the World Health Organisation, WHO, has done very well by recommending a set of known and tested interventions. For quick reference, the present WHO statistics on global road traffic injuries affirms that “every fifteen minutes of everyday, road crash victims’
pre hospital intervention for road crash victims is considered very important and relevant in resolving such problems. With no aim of diminishing the brilliant efforts of National agencies working on road crash reduction in Africa like the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, which has a record of indisputable improved qualities of its Management and good efforts of its officers. Nonetheless, the Nigerian situation on deaths from on the spot of road crashes is still very worrisome. Indeed, the very fact that credible evidence abound in documented studies that it is not yet possible for officers of any African National Road Safety Agency to be at the scene of every road crash to offer help to road crash victims in a timely appropriate manner remains a bothersome issue. Emphatically, the reality of increasing motorization, inadequate rescue facilities and bad roads as quite evident and well reported by
crash scene. Thus, the shortcomings of most organisations like the FRSC on prompt assistance to road crash victims not only diminishes the excellent intentions of their officers whom mostly put their lives at risk to save the lives of others but exposes the inadequate capacity of countries like Nigeria to cope with the challenges posed by road crash emergencies and other related disasters. Ordinarily, the belief by many people that curbing avoidable road deaths in Africa will be possible with the provision of adequate ambulance facilities, good roads, better monitoring facilities of drivers and adequate funding of National Road Safety Agencies in Africa by respective governments is very true. However, in reality, waiting on such bogus expectations to redeem a health tragedy especially regarding the ugly situation of many preventable deaths at the spot of road crashes is daydream and its actualization, miles away from truth. The simple reason here is that most National road safety agencies have never been and may unlikely be empowered with adequate resources and rescue facilities especially in a Continent where most governments claim to be confronted with resource challenges and are noted to lack the political will to recognise Road Traffic Injuries as a major killer disease despite the deafening and consistent alarm raised by the WHO in the past three decades. Consequently, any objective analyst on road safety in Africa will find it hard to see how governments in the continent can meaningfully address the needs of road crash victims without adopting fresh strategies on road users’ collaboration. In fact, any attempt by road users in Africa to wait for their governments to solely carry the burden of road crash

victims or tackle problems of many avertable deaths at crash spots may just be a long hope in vain especially where there is no National focused agenda that involves communities in rescue efforts. The present situation where rescue for road crash victims is left for the limited capacity of national road safety agencies, if allowed to thrive may not only make such a nation end up with increasing statistics on road traffic injuries but may likely transform to similar consequences that confronts some Ebola virus endangered countries that had closed their doors to the option of community mobilization for containing the Ebola virus whilst awaiting some magical drugs that never arrived. With no aim of digression or attempt to damp the hope for a quick cure for Ebola disease, the fortunate fact on road traffic injuries which kills at almost equal magnitude as Ebola virus is that we need not search too far for a solution to prevent fatalities that occur on crash scenes. Specifically, in Africa, credible research conducted on its communities by knowledge based NGOs including the International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies has shown that about 57% of deaths on the spot of road crash are not caused by severity of the crash but due to minor injuries like airway blockage, breathing difficulties and circulation problems which could have been addressed with simple application of First Aid measures by wellinformed bystanders. Without a doubt, in an African setting, a creative and innovative way to fight against deaths on the spot of road crashes is to elevate the knowledge of the public in administering simple life saving measures to victims of road crashes. Thus, if any African government is desirous of addressing on the spot needless road deaths, its major focus should be to build capacity of its citizenry on First Aid to enable bystanders act appropriately as first responders at road crash scenes. C o n s e q u e n t l y, implementation of First Aid training for drivers and willing road users as endorsed by the ‘Meeting of Experts’ at African Road
Safety Conference, Ghana, 2007 aka ‘Accra Declaration’ though overdue, is still of great value to African countries like Nigeria where studies have shown that in caring for road crash victims, the FRSC has probably reached its maximum within its available resources, yet the number of road crash victims who die before the FRSC intervenes, is naturally still very high. As such, the
lackadaisical attitude or prevailing circumstances of claims on resource inadequacy on the part of most African Governments has made execution of some of these proven measures of saving lives, a difficult or impracticable task. Indeed, this is where the Media as a massive influential tool for shaping society can use its mandate to persuade the governments in Africa to

Furthermore, given that First Aid is a life saving skill that most Nigerians may need some day, it is
need for public education on First Aid cannot be over emphasized particularly in an environment where every road user is a probable victim of road crash and Road Traffic Injuries have not only become a major health concern but socio economic setback. build a new road safety culture that will empower community members with First Aid skills. Perhaps, through a well articulated advocacy by the Media such a life saving simple and cost effective initiative like National First Aid policy will not be hijacked by unnecessary bureaucratic bottlenecks or needless excuses of African governments at the expense of valuable lives of thousands of road users. In Nigeria, a good non commercial First Aid Agenda
significant to state that a road users’ First Aid Agenda if implemented by the FRSC Management in Nigeria would firm up the capacity of FRSC rescue officers in achieving a progressive decrease of road deaths. Also, such a policy will serve as a quick impact initiative of the Nigerian Government in meeting the expectations of its citizens in emergencies because the number of people who die as a result of traffic crashes, domestic accidents or violent incidents would be considerably reduced in situations where

Perspective first responders are able to act effectively before the arrival of medical services. Thus, as road users in Nigeria mark 2014 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims with heavy hearts resulting from memories of thousands of loved ones that died as victims of preventable road crashes, it has become extremely important to use the platform of this year’s
Remembrance Day to urge the Federal government of Nigeria as led by Dr Ebele Goodluck Jonathan to rise up to the challenge posed by preventable on the spot road deaths by ensuring that every Nigerian road user is given the opportunity to acquire First Aid knowledge. A National programme on First Aid would not only fit into the recommendations of the WHO/UN collaboration on 2011-2020 Decade of Action on rescue which President Goodluck Jonathan personally endorsed his commitment but will offer pre hospital care to people in some troubled sections of the country especially in this tasking period of seeming insurgency. Any further delay or hesitance by Nigerian authorities to meet its commitment on the 2007 ‘Accra Declaration’ on mass First Aid knowledge for its citizens, a known, tested and proven measure that could reduce on the spot road deaths and injuries by over 50% would certainly expose the lip service attention the Nigerian government pays to the safety of its citizens and
residents. Nevertheless, while awaiting the Nigerian government to muster the political will for a National First Aid policy for its citizens, the crucial step for the FRSC Management to take would be to speedily include compulsory First Aid training and certification in its new drivers’ license scheme in accordance with the 2007 ‘Accra Declaration’ which was endorsed by the FRSC Management on behalf of the Federal government of Nigeria and Nigerian road users. Fortunately, a prompt implementation of such an initiative by an organisation like the FRSC will not attract any unnecessary bickering because it can rely on ‘Decree No. 45 of the 1988 as amended by Decree 35 of 1992 referred to in the statute books as the FRSC Act cap 141 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) and passed by the National Assembly as Federal Road Safety Commission (establishment) Act 2007’ which defines some of its relevant functions as “preventing or minimizing accidents on the highway; determining, from time to time, the requirements to be satisfied by an applicant for a driver’s license, giving prompt care to victims of accidents, conducting researches into causes of motor accidents and methods of preventing them and putting into use the result of such researches, cooperating with bodies or agencies or groups in road safety activities or in prevention of accidents on the highways etc;” Finally, as we look forward to FRSC’s 27 years Anniversary of continual and commendable improvement on safer road use in Nigeria, it becomes apt to call on the FRSC Management to use the opportunity offered by the 2014 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims to continue playing its laudable lead role in road safety administration and development in the African Continent. “Infidelity is almost never about sex rather it is about intimacy and unmet needs. To recover or heal a relationship following infidelity, you must learn how to become more emotionally intimate. This emotional intimacy comes from spending time together, communicating and sharing your lives together.” WHEN someone you love betrays your trust, it feels like an insurmountable hurdle, but it is completely possible for your relationship to survive infidelity. Here is how. 1. Fully face your Feelings: when you are hurt, you may blame, run, fight, judge or explain. If you can stop and fully feel the heartache tenderly, you will be surprised at what is possible. When you step fully into the sensation in your heart, beyond thought an explanation, the feelings begins to shift. 2. Clarify Your Purpose: When hurt, you may tend to think about the problem. Recycling the problem can escalate the pains. If you can focus on the solution you seek, you will naturally head towards answers. 3. Develop a deeper level of emotional intimacy in the Relationship: Infidelity is almost never about sex rather it is about intimacy and unmet needs. My advice is: DON’T: keep the focus on your relationship, not the affairs partner. 9. Postpone Final Decision: It might take a long time to figure out what led to this crisis and where to go from here.
Your first impulse is probably not the wisest. Try to postpone permanent decision until you can think more clearly. 10. Launch a better-than-ever relationship: Take a relationship education course that starts by helping and identifying the weak areas in your relationship and than strengthens skills for talking together about sensitive issues are, the less likely you will be to drift apart or to let anger rifts lead to resentment or fights. 11. Take turns listening even when it hurt: Make appointments for each of you to just listen to the other. The speaker should speak briefly and let the listener paraphrase what he or she heard. Often the listener will hear only one part of what is said. Repeat what was missed, and check before going on to the next point. 12. Tell the truth, as completely as you can: The unfaithful spouse can share the thoughts and feelings that led to the choices that were made. Doing this helps you both understand the underlying problems you face. The injured spouse can also acknowledge his or her contribution to creating the circumstances that led to the infidelity. 13. Build Trust: You can do this by having your actions match up with loving actions. If you say, “I love you” back it up with loving actions. If you say, “I want our coupleship to work”, stop all conduct with the affair partners and stick with it. There is nothing worse for your partner than to find out you are not being honest.

President Goodluck Jonathan
ON May 18, 2013, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan declared a state of Emergency in the three North Eastern States of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe as a measure to put an end to the reign of violence in the region perpetuated by the Boko Haram insurgents. The Islamists who started their violent campaigns in 2009 in the city if Maiduguri the Borno State capital say Western Education is sinful. The proclamation, which was well received by not a few Nigerians, was believed to be the needed cure for the socioeconomic malaise unleashed on hapless Nigerians resident in the affected areas. The expectation was not misplaced as Nigerian troops deployed under the instrument of the Emergency Rule to the affected areas succeeded in flushing out the Boko Haram insurgents who had taken positions and held on to them in northern Borno cities of Bama, Baga etc. Before Nigerians could begin to celebrate the supposed victory over the insurgents in these areas, they reared their ugly heads in Potiskun, Buni – Yadi areas of Yobe State killing and maiming hundreds of innocent Nigerians. This does not include those hapless
Nigerians who had to die in the face of the countless bomb blasts across major cities in the north. The armed forces again were deployed to restore normalcy to the affected areas as the rag-tag Boko Haram were quick to diffusing its membership among the populace making it difficult for the military to have a clear cut identity of who the enemies are and move to confront them. Given the ubiquitous nature of the insurgents and their allies the Nigerian Military operational tactic has largely been reactionary. insurgents. The strife being asymmetrical considering the fact that the enemies are within the territorial boundaries of the country, the military that are themselves not spirits found themselves in a culde-sac. Going by the nature of all asymmetrical wars across history, they are the hardest to prosecute amongst all warfare. Despite these obvious hiccups in the prosecution of the war on terror, Nigerians were convinced that the insurgents would soon wear out and become part of the footnotes of the nations checkered history. This was not to be as the insurgents at the expiration of the first extension of the first six months of the Emergency Rule in May 2014 gave Nigerians the reason to have a rethink about the effectiveness of the emergency rule with more attacks and annexation of territories. As a result, issues of low morale among the troops and poor equipment believed to have been exacerbated by high-level corruption in the nation’s defense apparatchik came to the fore. Things got so bad that soldiers and their spouses openly protested their postings to the fronts needless mentioning the mutiny at the Seven Division Maiduguri where the GOC narrowly escaped death in the hands

of his protesting troops. Although, the military high command has well responded to the seeming indiscipline among the troops by invoking the relevant laws to deal with the situation, all can not be said to be well with the general milieu regarding the prosecution of the ‘War’ on insurgency. Beginning from the presidency through the military high command to the least policy makers and its implementors in government, there has largely been insincerity all the way in the prosecution of the emergency rule. This is a direct explanation as to why the nation is yet to defeat the insurgents despite its globally acclaimed reputation in warfare. The seeming ineffectiveness of the adopted approach to ending the war left many Nigerians frustrated to the extent of believing that the supposed rag-tag Boko Haram insurgents were better equipped and motivated than the Nigerian troops. Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State one whose people bear the worst brunt of the insurgents attack was forced to speak in like manner questioning the rationale behind the declaration of the emergency rule if it couldnot contain the activities of the insurgents one year down the line after its declaration. Governor Shettima’s remarks got the err of President Jonathan who reminded the governor how the presence of the soldiers in Maiduguri was the reason why he could still stay in the state’s capital city. The true
import of Governor Shettima’s statement which was lost on President Jonathan came to the force shortly after the presidency got the second extension of the emergency rule in May 2014 which expired on November 18, 2014 when

opened a floodgate of criticisms of the use of the constitutional instrument to tackle the insurgency. Many especially senators from the affected areas

believe that the tactic had not worked. They held that the Federal Government should declare a total war on the terrorists who have threatened and are still threatening the territorial integrity of Nigeria. Aside the senators from the north east particularly those of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), several Nigerians believe that the emergency rule option has not yielded the desired fruits. If any thing it has exposed the inadequacies in the Nigeria military’s combat readiness. According to Professor Itse Sagay, the Nigerian Military has not been decisive in the fight against insurgency. To him, the emergency rule had not achieved its desired result because there has not been sufficient vigour and drive on the part of both, the Federal Government and the armed forces, stressing however that they did not make full use of the authority given to them under the Emergency Provision particularly Section 11 of the 1999 Nigeria’s Constitution. If Professor Sagay was whimsical in his opinion, former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Joseph Daudu (SAN) was rather exertive as he described the entire Emergency Rule gambits as a huge fraud on the Nigerian People. According to the ex NBA boss, the quest by the president to extend the emergency rule in the three north eastern states
emergency rule was being deployed as an instrument against some political interests. Joseph Daudu in his unpatronizing disposition towards solving national problems said that the way and manner the fight against the insurgents had been fought left much to be desired. He wondered why the military had not come down heavily against the insurgents who now control definite locations within the Nigerian federation and chase them completely out of the shores of the country. According to him, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its Commander-in-Chief i.e. President Jonathan are under constitutional obligations to maintain the territorial boundaries of Nigeria and should not under whatever illusion watch the take over of any part there of by any body or groups. He averred that there existed a plethora of options including the total declaration of war on the insurgent who in his view are no longer hidden. He blamed the military for the setbacks it has suffered thus far; stating that their failure to hold on to liberated former Boko Haram enclaves had led to the insurgent retaking them. According to him, “the Nigerian Military is supposed to be professional and by that are supposed to know what to do in every combat
situation, they should not expect the ordinary Nigerians to be the one to tell them how they should do the work they have
other options available to it including the declaration of a total war against the terrorists who have now secluded themselves in locations where they can
y And The Emergency Rule Gambit are yet to be released. The growing confidence of the insurgents in taking one Nigeria’s city, town or village after another had in recent time caused many
to renews their queries as to the effectiveness of the Emergency Rule. Only a few days ago the towns of Gombi, Hong and Pella in Adamawa were recaptured from the Boko Haram insurgents who had taken control of them for several days with residents fleeing to Yola
the state capital with some others fleeing to the Cameroons. Before this latest occupations, the
insurgents had taken, Biu the second largest town in Adamawa, Kirchinga including the hometown of the Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshall Alex Badeh. The request by the Presidency on Tuesday for another extension of the emergency rule has

sworn to do for their father land.” He concluded. Besides these two eminent Nigerians, and not withstanding the seeming opposition by some members of the Senate to its further extension and the macabre dance in the House of Representative, the general opinion among the populace regarding the emergency rule is that the instrument has not produced the desired results, and if anything it had caused the insurgents to be more daring. Nigerians seem to be saying that they do not need an Emergency Rule that cannot effectively protect the lives of villagers in the areas covered by the security instrument. They seem to be saying also that they are tired of the use of a particular military tactic, which had proven ineffective. They want the government to try
now be routed out. This cannot happen unless the necessary deployments are made within the military and greater attention paid to the morale of the foot soldiers. The seeming staccato deployments of troops to confront Boko Haram in the midst of abundance of military personnel represent a sad commentary in the life of the Nigerian nation. As it stands today, what has been lacking in the fight against the insurgents is the failure of the top military and political leadership to do the needful because they are not in a hurry to see an end to the orgy of violence thus confirming the suspicion in many quarters that the emergency rule had largely been a smoke screen to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians that the government is doing something to end the insurgency.

Reconsider Your Ways To Savour Your Breakthrough
EVERYBODY is created by God for the manifestation of God’s glory in one’s life but so many people get stucked and inebriated in the intricacies of life challenges as a result of pride, carelessness, greed, lack of faith, unforgiving spirit, unappreciative tendencies and above all, glaring display of act of wickedness. Our God remain, the protector of His own and He does it beyond the imagination of even the beneficiary: So, whoever desires to get and enjoy breakthrough in life must never fail to live according to the dictates of the Creator. Malachi 3:6-7 states “For I am the LORD, I change not, therefore ye sons of Jacobs are not consumed”…Return unto me, and I will return unto you said the LORD of hosts”. Our LORD would always heed to your call whenever you need Him at every moment of your needs. He knows when to respond that will attract honour to His

Elisha prayed and said LORD I pray, open his eyes, that he may see…And the LORD (immediately) opened the eyes of the young man and he saw, and behold the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha” 2nd Kings 6:17. The man of God also prayed unto God “Smite this people I pray thee with blindness, And He smote them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha. Beloved, a breakthrough was recorded through the word from a man, who acknowledged God as his sources with unfailing and fervent faith expressed. It is recorded in 2nd Kings 6:23 that “so the band of Syria came no more into the Land of Israel” to harass them after the display of spiritual and miraculous authority over them God does not exercise delay whenever he decides to intervene in the course of man’s predicament. As long as one considers it

“That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, himself took our infirmities, and bare our sickness”Mt.8v17. How do you know that Jesus took away your sickness? If you have answer to how Jesus took away your sin, then you also have an answer to how he took away your sickness. Did you see salvation physically when you receive your salvation from sin? If you did not see salvation physically when you got born again, then you don’t need to see your sickness taken physically before you believe that you are healed. If you understand this mystery of redemption, you will walk out of that terminal disease in your body which doctor told you is incurable. We, Sons and Daughters of God are essentially a spirit living in a body. As spirit beings, we do not walk by sight but by faith (2Cor.5v7). Salvation from sin, Sicknesses and diseases is an issue that has to do with faith. Rom. 10v10, “for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation.” As you became born again when you believed unto righteousness with your heart and with your mouth you confessed unto salvation, in the same way you receive healing by believing in your heart that you are healed and confessing it with your mouth because the same act of redemption that set you free from sin also set you free from sickness and diseases including the one you are nurturing in your body now. The Lord said to Moses, “make a snake and put it up on a pole;” “anyone who is bitten can look at it and Live” So, Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone that was bitten by a snake looked at the bronze snake, he lived, Num.21 v89. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life Jn.3 v14. Those who were bitten by the serpents in the wilderness were healed when they looked at a brazen serpent on a pole, which is a type of Calvary. If everyone that
necessary to obey simple but common instruction from God through His Servants, 2nd Chron. 20:20 states “Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established, believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper”. Elijah, the great prophet of God, was sent to Zarephath, to a poor widow for sustenance. He obeyed the God’s instruction. The widow did not hide the secrete of her state of penury to the man of God: “As the LORD thy God liveth, I have a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, a little oil in a cruse, and behold I am
gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son that we may eat it, and die”. The man of God expressed the authority in the word of God, that never fails, “Fear not go and do as thou hast said” but make me there of a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make thee and for thy son”. God’s saith, the LORD God of Israel, “the barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail until the day the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth”. period as prophesized by the man of God. 1st Kings 17:16. Beloved, our God has not changed and He will never fail to do the good things associated with Him as long we acknowledge Him as our Saviour and Creator in every aspect of our lives. David sought Him when the heathens considered the requests or task by King Nebuchadnezzar to unravel the King’s dream and also to interpret it. Daniel 23:4. The chaldeans answered before the king and said “There is not a man upon the earth that can shrew the king’s matter therefore, there is no king, Lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician or astrologer or chaldean”. Daniel 2:10.
“The LORD God makes use of those that fear and Honour Him. He could decide through the common to bring uncommon miracles. But, He could also puts into disuse anyone that decides to dishonour Him. No wonder the Bible records that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. Heb. 11:6.”
But, when Daniel became aware of the King’s request, He consulted the LORD God, who revealeth secrets to His children. Deut 29:29. The King’s dream was revealed and he was also endowed the interpretation: Daniel 2:2830. The LORD God makes use of those that fear and Honour Him. He could decide through the common to bring uncommon miracles. But, He could also puts into disuse anyone that decides to dishonour Him. No wonder the Bible records that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. Heb. 11:6. Beloved, you can still savour your breakthrough when you reconsider your ways and return to the LORD in humility. 2nd Chron. 7:14. Never heed or be distracted by the evil though because of your iniquity. When you decide now, He is expecting you to come into His embrace so as to enjoy what the devil wants to debar you of. Rev. 3:20. Remain blessed as you obey His clarion call.
How Do You Know Jesus Took Your Infirmities? looked at the brazen serpent on the pole was healed, then it is logical that everyone who is sick, that looks at Jesus now, (believe that he died to save him from sickness) can be healed. So if God provided health and healing for his servant under the old covenant, it can therefore be said today that God has provided much more for us who are his sons and daughters under the new covenant. God has made you the custodian of your body according to lCor.9v27, and you alone have the exclusive right to permit what must remain in your body. That sickness in your body now is not yours! It has been taken away by the Lord Jesus according to Mat.8:17. Therefore, reject and resist it and don’t give it a place in your body, for it is written “give no place to Satan”. Your body belongs to the Holy Ghost and not sickness. Treat sickness when it comes as a stranger, curse it with the word of God and command it to fade away from its hiding place. Natural human knowledge can’t comprehend what Jesus
did. That kind of knowledge is beyond natural human truth. You could never prove from natural human truth that your sin, diseases and sicknesses were laid on Jesus. Human mind cannot comprehend the mystery of the act of redemption. This was the challenge of Nicodemus in his encounter with Jesus. “How can a man be born again when he is old? Nicodemus asked “surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother ‘s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “1 tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the spirit Flesh gives birth to flesh, but spirit gives birth
to spirit. You should not be surprise at my saying; ‘you must be born again’. The wind blows where ever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with anyone that is born of the spirit”Jn,3;4-S. As you cannot see the wind but you can see the effect of the wind, so it is with the act of redemption. So how do you know that He took your infirmities? Even though it doesn’t look like He took them because you still have symptoms in your body. You know because the holy word of God that does not lie says so. Walk by that revelational knowledge and not how your body feels or what human knowledge
tells you and you will be freed. A son of a famous man of God was sick and the doctor said he would go deaf in the ear. He prayed and the father asked after prayer how he felt, he replied that he was healed because the holy word says so, though there was no noticeable change in his health condition and after few weeks, he was completely healed. It sounds so simple to be true but that is the truth that can set you free if you believe. Confession: I believe what the word of God says concerning my health. God’s word says in Mat.8:17 took my infirmities. I walk by the revelation of God’s words and not by feelings.
“If you did not see salvation physically when you got born again, then you don’t need to see your sickness taken physically before you believe that you are healed.”

Or they are natural doctors blessed by God to help the society by treating patients with the use of leaves and herbs? This question should be answered by Christians and religions leaders of different churches in

The real truth is that people especially the new generation of Christians should really think seriously about this issue of herbs because herbs, leaves and some other plants
should learn that God created these plants for a purpose. Though some native doctors use divine powers and unclean spirits to treat their patient, charge exorbitant prices and most of them look dirty in the presence of their client, but this does not mean herbal doctors are also in the same league. Christians and religions leaders should be wise and learn how to appreciate God’s natural gift given to this great nation. I am not saying there are no native doctors that are also practicing witchcraft but we should be careful how we talk in order not to offend our neighbours who patronise herbal drugs and are working for them. Most of them can testify to their efficacy. Afterall one man’s meat is another man’s poison. Words are like

Many churches today do tell their members not to be involve in taking drugs when sick, instead they should pray to God. It’s high time we rose up from our sleep and start appreciating the work of God in the right direction, we know God heals through prayers but that doesn’t mean we should neglect the free gift God has created and given to us. Let us draw a line between the real native herbal doctors and those practicing witchcraft in order not to offend other people who patronise herbal doctors.

Some Churches Parade Mad Devil - Singer Sammie Okposo
NIGERIA’S Gospel singer, Sammie Okposo, in an interview on Wazobia Fm, revealed that the various actions taking place in the Christian circle today, is a misrepresentation of God’s words in the Holy Scripture. The singer who recently released a new song titled ‘Sing your Praise (SYP),’ noted that with the recent trend of Pastors asking their
members to do strange things all in the name of God’s name is more than signs of End Time. He stated that the devil is gradually eating up the Christian hood and the Christian faithful needs to examine the churches they go to for worship. This might come as shock to some of her fans, who believe she is one of the biggest earners in the movie industry in Nigeria, due to the corporate endorsements she boasts of. It would be recalled that Kate Henshaw endorsed Glo, Onga, Samsung and Naija Got Talents, which many believe would have made her bank account swell considerately. Recently, a bank account was opened for her campaign and the general public urged to make donations. Insiders alleged that there have been considerable responses from people, who have donated generously towards the actualisation of her political

Angelina Jolie To Quit Acting, “Says I Have Never Been Comfortable As An Actor”
IF all goes according to Angelina Jolie’s plan, you will no longer see the 38year-old actress on the big screen. In a candid new interview with DuJour magazine, Angelina confirms she’s planning to give up acting entirely. “Absolutely,” she tells the magazine about her future plans of no longer appearing in films. “I’ve never been comfortable as an actress I’ve never loved being in front of the camera.” And she’s already taking the next steps to retiring from acting by getting plenty of buzz as a director, especially for her latest
project Unbroken, which is based on the incredible life story of Olympic runnerturned-U.S. airman Louie Zamperini.
• Angelina Jolie
“I didn’t ever think I could direct, but I hope I’m able to have a career at it because I’m much happier,” she says about her
new role behind the camera. This isn’t the first time Angelina has talked about quitting acting. In 2012, she told Britain’s Channel 4 News that she would happily give up her career to be at home with her children. “I am so grateful to the job, and I have had great experiences, and I have even be able to tell stories and be a part of stories that mattered and I have done things for fun, but ... if it went away tomorrow I would be very happy to be home with the children,” she said. “I wake up in the
morning as a mom and I turn on the news like everybody else, and I see what’s happening and I want to be part of the world in a positive way.” Thankfully for her fans, that day isn’t coming anytime soon. Angelina is starring in the highly anticipated By the Sea with her husband Brad Pitt, a period love story which she wrote and is also directing. Her 13-year-old son Maddox is also working as a production assistant on the film. Though predictably, it’s not always easy working with your significant other. “The tricky thing is
directing myself and directing Brad,” she admits. “It’s hard, dramatic material, and we’re balancing.” “It’s a heavy film, and it’s not easy for us,” she adds. “But even as you struggle through it, you’re in the trenches together and you don’t expect it to be easy. We’re challenging each other and that’s a really good thing.” The last time Angelina and Brad starred in a film together was 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Now, nine years later, the two are married with six children. “I think when it’s right, it feels the exact same [as before],” she says about married life.

Despite recent achievements that prove Nigeria potential for entrepreneurial triumph, there is little doubt about the severity of constraint on the road ahead. One of the principal problems is very simply the fact that Nigeria

further turn offs. The most significant aspect of the problem, however, is Nigeria nascent and shaky polity, constantly under
and other countries around the globe. It is no doubt that the current trend taken by some private individuals in Nigeria society has sky
threat from civil intolerance and rising religious extremism. Social problems, growing out of deplorable human development indicators in the absence of inclusive growth, form the second significant obstacle for Nigeria. The status of women and their traditionally limited involvement in entrepreneurial activities is a significant drawback from the perspective of rapid social and economic growth. The issue is further compounded by a catastrophic divide in the condition of rural and urban populations. Entrepreneurship is the foundations of any developed nation. For Nigeria to reap the full benefits of a dynamic and evolving economy however, requires the overcoming of entrenched social, financial and political hurdles. Informed government policy, education and international participation are crucial for Nigeria to shake off its third world heritage and achieve the full breadth of its economic potential. As Nigeria is taking a new dimension in the entrepreneur world which has already improved on the lives of citizens of Nigeria
rocket the improvement and development even to the extent of the government ordering every of its parastatals to take the issues relating to entrepreneurship very serious. But for the past decades, the government at all levels has trivialized the importance and the relevance of entrepreneurship. If the situation of unemployment and poverty rate had bothered the government, the living style and situational pattern of Nigerians would have changed over time without delays. At a time, Nigerian is past the moment of economic discovery, but it is still on the brink of entrepreneur break through. The efforts and factors facilitating the growth of enterprises in Nigeria is therefore less than those miligating its potential and ability. A nation where there is no increase of employment should encourage entrepreneurship because it is one of the way to survive in a economic backward country. It is so unfortunate that Nigeria is one of the developing nation around the world despite the resources (both human and natural resources) what Nigeria tend to gain and benefit amidst its clever brains are improved economic and market strategies for modern development.
Understanidng Entrepreneurship And Its Relevance In Nigeria Society
them, the world would never have known such marvels as the wheel, electricity or the internet, to name just a few. Entrepreneurs are the veritable backbone on which the world and modern ideas continue to develop. The magnitude and reach of their contributions, however, extend much beyond the world of business and economy and to them goes irreputable credit for the growth and evolution of societies at large. Developed nations across the world owe their current prosperity to the collective effort of intrepid entrepreneurs, on whose innovation also rests the future prosperity of much of the developing world. The large rewards of risk taking, starting an enterprise and developing it into a successful business venture extend well past its immediate beneficiaries. The scope of financial freedom and flexibility that entrepreneurialism allows is a means to simultaneous individual and national prosperity. If this holds true for economies around the world, it has especially relevance for Nigeria, which is at the cusp of a new era of progress. Nigeria is home to people of the Ibo culture, an extremely resourceful ethnic group that is known for its traditional entrepreneurial prowess. Consequently, this well endowed sub-saharan nation has a strong under current of enterprise running through its veins, which has helped it survive and emerge out a long and difficult history. Inheriting a fortune in oil and gas reserves after ceding from British Colonial rule in 1960, Nigeria as early
However, civil strife and political uncertainty spawned an atmosphere of disregard for inclusive growth, eventually bringing about a steady decline of agriculture and traditional industries. The outcome was the creation of the Nigerian paradox, a situation of huge economic disparities that drove most of this resources abundant country population into desperate poverty. Traditional Nigerian entrepreneurship began in a climate of economic stagnation and as a purely survivalist endeavour. Dismal human development indices, unemployment and infrastructure deficits resulted in the evolution of a massive informed economy that depended almost exclusively on personal initiative and hazardous risk taking capacity. This vast, unorganised sector, covering a wide range of products and services, quickly filled the gap left by subsequent decades of misrule and failed economic policies. It is ironic, to say the least, that the Nigerian informal economy has now grown to a stage where it contributes over 65% of Cross National Product, and by the government own admission, accounts for 90% of all new jobs in the country. By UWA EGHOMEKA
AMIDST the uproar that followed the partial removal of fuel subsidy in January of 2012 came the announcement that a new federal government programme would be created to ease the effect of government’s decision on the average Nigerian. When the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) was created and a committee inaugurated in February of the same year, their focus was to ensure that the funds accrued by the federal government as a result of the subsidy removal would be reinvested into programmes and initiatives that would be easily accessible by all. Thus, the SURE-P committee began their arduous task under the leadership of Dr Christopher Kolade. Many may have thought that SURE-P would fail; that as other ventures had before it, it would be ‘business as usual’. Those people, I believe, have to date, been pleasantly surprised to find that not only has SURE-P remained, it has grown in spades. Since its inauguration two and a half years ago, SUREP, in collaboration with the
Ministry of Finance, has been involved in several projects such as the procurement and management of mass transit, maternal and child healthcare, community service programmes, HIV/ AIDS Intervention, Polio Eradication and other noteworthy causes. Chief among their projects are the vocational training and Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS). Nigeria’s Minister of National Planning had declared that the current unemployment statistics for Nigeria as at 2011, stood at 23.9%; which translates to almost 40 million citizens. Another figure from the National Bureau of Statistics had indicated that over 70% of Nigerians live on a USD a day or less. These figures are frightening, to say the least. Thankfully, there is
some ray of hope on the horizon. With the vocational training project which has as its areas of focus; hands on skills, life skills and entrepreneurial skills,
SURE-P has invested in reducing unemployment through skills acquisition and development. As of today, they have arranged over 6,000 job placements for skilled labour, with
“While this may be a mere drop in the bucket when you consider the almost 40 million jobless Nigerians, it is a drop nonetheless, and one that will be accompanied by many more drops with the passing of time. until one learns that through SURE-P, about 185,000 Jobs have been created. While this may be a mere drop in the bucket when you consider the almost 40 million jobless Nigerians, it is a drop nonetheless, and one that will be accompanied by many more drops with the passing of time. Admirably, we do not have a bunch on delusional people forming that committee that manages the president’s
SURE-P pet project. These are men and women who are fully convinced that the government alone cannot employ all the unemployed. Thus, apart from the encouragement and training of youths towards the pursuance of entrepreneurship, the committee also launched one of its most laudable projects; the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS). Based on the figures which the government has to work with, the only way the GIS will be able to reach its full potential and be a rewarding enterprise is if the government, nongovernmental organisations and private business owners all key into its vision. The beauty of the GIS is that it is not restricted to any industry and the government has made it more attractive to business owners by committing to pay the allowances of all graduates taken in by different organizations. Thanks to the GIS initiative by SURE-P, over 3,000 graduates have found placements, while others are awaiting theirs. In a country such as ours, this is a step in the right direction. So far, SURE-P and the Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala led Federal Ministry of Finance have proved to be a formidable team focused on improving the lot of our youths.
Seven Painful Reasons Why Buhari Could Lose If He Runs For Presidency By DR. JOHN EGBEAZIEN OSHODI IT appears socially, emotionally, and evenly religiously satisfying to be corrupt in Nigeria, and understandably realistic to be in fear in the country, as evidenced by the longstanding circumstances facing our people. For many Nigerians born, raised, educated and working in the nation, from almost the beginning of their teenage years, and irrespective of ethnic, social, gender and class backgrounds; intellectual value is seen in corruption and a loathing of fear is seen everywhere. In regard to the presidential contenders, President Goodluck Jonathan, on the people’s behalf, thinks the issue of corruption is over exaggerated and defensively states that “corruption is
everywhere.” Jonathan like most Nigerians agrees that the country is griped in fear, as the people are loving people. On the other hand, General Muhammadu Buhari believes corruption in today’s Nigeria is worse than at any other time in its history, and while he agrees that there are safety issues in the country causing fears, he blames not only the Islamist extremist group but kidnappers and armed robbers across the country. But for many Nigerians across the country, the type of fear that is most disturbing to them is the faceless type coming from the Islamic rebels which Jonathan states have infiltrated his administration. To many Nigerians both in the North and South, the
nation’s character and atmosphere is secular, and religiously flexible, and that represents more of Jonathan’s personality, unlike Buhari who is seen as driven
by a fanatic religious personality. Buhari is seen as marked with bluntness which served him well as a military head of the nation, but his current
General Muhammadu Buhari
pronouncements and messages of strict governance may likely affect almost everyone who is inspired by acts of stealing, corruption and secularity. To most people, on matters of stealing, corruption and secularity, Jonathan will be less punitive, more forgiving and overwhelmingly less strict. Also Buhari does not bend easily with the secular world, unlike Jonathan who is known for his non authoritarian and lenient approach to life in general. Like most Nigerians, Jonathan appears property conscious and enjoys living and roving large with friends but Buhari on his own recent admission once “operated an account... when I was in training in the UK, India and the United States and when I came back I closed all the accounts. I don’t have a property, even in Niger.”
To many Nigerians, Buhari is just too disciplined for an undisciplined and affectionate people, in terms of work ethics, leadership, and approach to life. To the people, the youthfullooking Jonathan, compared to the aging-looking Buhari, appears more charismatic, tends to smile and laugh more, and these Nigerianoriented moods alone could be the feelings that will go through the minds and bodies of most Nigerians when judging these two presidential contenders. It could be that these pictures more than anything else will portray a mental image to them on Election Day. THE blood of Jesus is so powerful and efficacious in purifying and helping believers to remain clean from every form of undeanliness that might stand as hinderance to their God given potentials and Godly inheritance that has been made available to them. This blood is directly from the sacrifice of the son of God
from sorrow and whatever life challenges that might bring to us. Blood is throughout scripture, but what does Christ’s blood mean to us? The blood of Jesus redeems us from the debt we were suppose to pay. There was a price against us that we could not pay but the blood of Jesus
blood. He hates it!. Before this planet was ever swung into space, God had determined in his heart that he would send his son to die upon the cross how wonderful it is to trace the scarlet thread of the blood of Christ woven throughout the Bible! How much more wonderful to experience its redemption personally praise
that when the blood of Jesus is pleaded upon a man’s life for his sinful act, he becomes whole and free. It gives life to those who consume it (John 6:53) many who have had their lives lost in the hands of the devil has or finds it back through their reconciliatory action which involves self

The Power In The Blood Of Jesus By PIUS O. ABAH
(Jesus) through his death on the cross at calvary. That was why he concluded that his mission has been accomplished. The power in the blood of Jesus is able to save sinners from sin if only they can acknowledge the fact that God is able to save him or her and sincerely confess their sin(s) to God. He is always ready and willing to forgive and restore sinners and backsliders to the himself. Many Christians today can testify to the power and the authority in the name of Jesus. The power that resides in his blood has delivered many from adversities and forces that wanted to confront them both physically spiritually and in every sphere of human existence. No wonder, the word of God assures us that we overcame through the blood of the lamb and through the word of our testimony. Testimony therefore has to do with Christian expression of thanksgiving, praise and adoration of what He has done for us. Anyone who is of the habit of praising God for his provision, protection love mercy faithfulness and the host of others will always bring down the powers and the presence of God to come and rain in such an individual’s life. In addition, the blood of Jesus is that which sets us free
redeemed us. St Peter 1:1819 says, “for you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect”. His blood brings us into fellowship with God. According to Ephesians 2:13. “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ”. Without the blood of Christ, man is a long way from God. His blood makes peace with man. Man by nature, is at war with God, and we can only come to God on his peace terms the blood atonement. The Bible says in colossans 1:20, “and, having made peace through the blood of his cross by him to reconcile all things unto himself”. The blood of Jesus also cleanses. Not only does it remove the punishment of sin, it removes the pollution. I don’t care what sin you’ve committed, the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7). His blood gives power over the devil. It’s blood that Satan fears. Revelation 12:11 says, “And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the lamb… “The devil dosen’t want you to learn about the
God for the blood of his lamb!. Thus, to further expatriate on the effectiveness and power on the name of Jesus, an Evangelist Frank Viola emphasised things the blood of Jesus does it was drawn from the book entitled. Jesus now unveiling the present day Ministry of Christ. Here are the things the blood of Jesus does for mankind. It remits sin (Matthew 26:28) from this frank viola was trying to empasise that Jesus died purposely to save us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness stressing

acknowledgement of wrong done and readiness as well as sincerity of heart to make a change through deep reflection and confession of surtender to God. It causes us to dwell in Christ and He in us (John 6:56) the Bible also declares that greater is He that is in thee than he that is no the world meaning that Jesus in the life of man is a big difference as he is always shielded from all forms of arrow shot at him. It is the means by which Jesus purchased the church (Acts 20:28) Jesus himself made it clear that the Church of God must move forward and that the gate of hell could not and cannot prevail over it. This is because, God is standing firm for the church and no matter whatever around the enemy might shoot, they will not penetrate because he is the chief security of the church. It is the means by which Jesus become our atonement through faith (Rom 3:25). In
This was born out of the love of the father. Having seen the distinctive and corrupt ways of men, he taught it wise that instead of destroying them, His son Jesus should died for the redemption of mankind. The blood of Jesus justifies us and saves us from the wrath that come upon the children of disobedience, the blood of Jesus is still flowing on the cross at calvary only those that goes under the blood will benefit from it (Romans 5:9). It brings those who were far away from God near to him (Eph 2:13) just like the prodigal son that went to a far country to lavish all that was given to him, the blood of Jesus provides the opportunity for the lost to come back through his redemptive blood as stated in Ephasians chapter 7 verse 1. It grants us the forgiveness of sins (Col 1:14) the Bible made it very clear that as many as call upon the name of Jesus will be saved. Through the blood of Jesus,
homosexuality, lesbianism, sodomy, incest, formation and the host of others. But thank God for Jesus who came and granted freedom from the his destructive plan for us. Furthermore, the blood of Jesus stands as a great factor through which we enter the most holy place with boldness, his word enjoins us to come to the throne of grace that we might obtain mercy and grace to help us in time of need. The blood of Jesus helps us to overcome the devil resolation told us that we overcome the devil through the blood of Jesus and by the words of our testimony. Thank God for the “precious” blood of Christ that was used as sacrifice for mankind. The best anyone can do for his/ herself is to surrender to the totality of God’s standards with the totality of our own lives so that he can help us to get to our destination as well as our desired accomplishments.

SNORING is caused by the vibration of the soft tissues in your head and neck as you breathe in. While asleep, the airways in your neck and head relax and narrow. It is of the airways increases the speed at which you are breathing out and changes air pressure in your airways. This causes the soft tissue to vibrate by sucking the sides of the airways in. The same effect can also be the result of partially blocked airways, which may be caused by conditions such as enlarged tonsils and cold. Evidence suggests snoring will get worse over time if left untreated. Vibrations that occur during snoring appear to damage blood vessels that supply muscles in the head and neck. This may, over many years, cause the muscles to weaken. If the muscles in your head and neck becomes weakened, their ability to keep your airways open will be affected making you likely to snore frequently and loudly. Roadside Foods Pose Health Risk DO you know that sales’ centres in different parts of the city are selling unhygienic foods which physicians say cause serious health hazards to the common people. These roadside food outlets are making the consumers especially children vulnerable to fatal disease such as cholera typhoid,

number of people suffering from stomach related ailments like typhoid fever and intestinal problems. The truth is that consumers may not feel the immediate danger the roadside foods constitute to their health but the adverse effect on the long run is quite enormous from these constant patronages at roadside foods from vendors who sell contaminated food to them. Some open air food stalls have been set on top of the sewage drains and they sell rice, plantain and many food items for. lunch lots of people satisfy their hunger with this roadside food not minding the atmosphere in which the meal was prepared. The attraction
most times is the varieties of food they can purchase at a cheap price and the assorted meat available. People should pay importance to nutrition value and health of the food they are buying . The government should take initiative to make the citizens as well as the food vendors themselves aware of this situation. The food authorities have imposed no restrictions on the vendors thus paving the way for them to expand their businesses. So be wise, eat healthy food to remain healthy because it is better to buy a healthy food than to pay a doctor to treat the disease caused by the unhygienic food you bought.

President Jonathan never visited the scene to commiserate with the families of the victims. Gosh what a president! When over 100 people were killed in the first Nyanya bombing in April 2014, President Jonathan went dancing ‘Azonto’ in Kano less than 48 hours later, just because one soul was joining his party therefore the over 100 souls that perished in Nyanya bombing are not that important compare to the soul of Alhaji Shekarau who was decamping to the PDP. And when almost 300 girls were freshly abducted in Chibok, President Jonathan neither acted fast enough to rescue the girls nor visited the village. His Administration even denied anyone was abducted, until 19 days after! How insensitive this president may be! Just not too long ago, the synagogue church of all nations had one of their building collapsed, where almost 150 people were
society, the man of God would by now be behind bar for erecting a building without the approval of neither the Lagos state Government nor the Local government Authority. No wonder the man is proving to be above the law by refusing to appear before the coroner, since GEJ has assured him that he does not give a damn even if a thousand souls perished. ”This president has therefore established a pattern of putting his political interest above the security and welfare of Nigerians who voted him into office. This president has trampled upon the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on many occasions as witnessed with his attitude towards this untold hardship and the senseless killing rampaging the North East of the country. Mr President your primary responsibility is to protect lives and properties of the citizens as enshrined in our 1999 constitution as amended and failure to discharge this duty you are equally guilty as the perpetrators of this evil acts. You may also be charged for murder/ manslaughter after your tenure in 2015. It is time for Nigerians to respond in kind by trampling on his political ambition and declare in one voice that never again we would be deceived by fake humility, and heaven forbid we go through this rough road again for the next four years under your stewardship.

The president promised us working refineries, he has not done that, we are still importing fuel, the electricity he promised us is not there, yet what is going on under his watch is corruption, corruption and more corruption. The issue of security is even another problem facing the entire country and the North East in particular. While the North East people are facing Boko Haram problem, the other parts of the country are facing problems of kidnapping and armed robbery. The war in the Northern part of the country has been on for some time and the president has been called different names for his

- Which Clubs Could Afford To Buy Messi? LIONEL Messi has created a storm. The Argentine attacker hinted earlier this week that his future may not be at Barcelona after all, alluding to severe criticism and “difficult times” at the Catalan club. And as news spread of the forward’s frustrations at Camp Nou, Europe’s top teams were placed on red alert. Key figures such as Messi’s father Jorge, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu and team-mate Javier Mascherano have been quick to play down the possibility of the 27-yearold seeking a move elsewhere, but the player himself has given serious thought to a future away from Barca. As things stand, it still looks likely Leo will smooth things over at the club where he has spent over half his life since joining as a tiny but talented 13-year-old in 2000. Nevertheless, Europe’s elite will be watching with interest to see how the player’s situation develops. But how many clubs could afford to sign the Argentine anyway? Several sides in Asia, such as rich Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande, could probably meet Messi’s massive 250m euro release clause, but the Argentine would want to remain in Europe at this point in his career. So here, Goal takes a look at the possible suitors if the four-time Ballon d’Or winner did decide to leave Camp Nou behind... Messi’s perfect partnership with Pep Guardiola brought the best out of both men, with 14 out of a possible 19 titles for the Catalan club between 2008 and 2012, as well as a host of records for the Argentine attacker and four consecutive Ballons d’Or. Bayern have just paid off the Allianz Arena more than 15 years ahead of schedule
and chief executive KarlHeinz Rummenigge told the club’s magazine: “The revenues from the Allianz Arena can soon be invested in the team.” That’s ominous news for everyone else, but Bayern’s head of finances Jan-Christian Dreesen told Sport Bild 10 days ago: “We won’t spend the amounts that clubs from southern Europe spend. We would rather invest in improving our collective strength than buying a megastar for +90 or +100 million.” Messi (who would probably cost more than that anyway, albeit much less than his current clause) is an Adidas athlete and a deal could potentially be struck with the sports manufacturer helping the German club to finance a transfer. However, spending such sums is against Bayern’s principles in the transfer market and the Bundesliga champions would be unlikely to make a move however much Guardiola would like to buy his former protege. If you can’t beat them, join them! Messi has traditionally found life tough against Chelsea and was famously called a diver by Jose Mourinho following the sides’ Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge in early 2006. The Argentine’s style of football is also a million miles from the defensive tactics shown on occasions by the Blues on their visits to Camp Nou. Nevertheless, this is a very different Chelsea team and Mourinho managed to convince Barcelona and Arsenal fan Cesc Fabregas to join the club last summer. So why not Messi? Less of a big-spending side in recent years, Chelsea’s income and the deep pockets of chairman
Roman Abramovich mean a deal could be financed, while Messi’s close friendship with Cesc (the players’ partners are also very close and were together in London last week) could be another deciding factor. So
City coach Manuel Pellegrini is a big admirer of Messi and the club would love to make a statement of intent by bringing in the four-time Ballon d’Or winner. However, given their recent fine for infringing Financial Fair Play

regulations, City would need to sell several star players or raise significant income in terms of sponsorship before a move for Messi would be possible. Messi may have lost out to Cristiano Ronaldo in the popularity contest this week at Old Trafford, but that’s because the Portuguese is a former Manchester United favourite and the Argentine is remembered for denying the club the Champions League title in 2009 and 2011. Those fans would quickly change their tune if the possibility of signing Messi arose, but right now United are not even in the Champions League and a
Ed Woodward believes the club - still one of the Europe’s richest despite escalating debts - are still in good shape. “There is the feeling at the club that we have the start of something special,” he said earlier this week. However, United would need Champions League football to tempt Messi and also to pay for him. And with the club currently down in seventh place in the Premier League, there is no guarantee that will happen this season. Paris Saint-Germain missed out on the summer signing of Angel Di Maria due to the Financial Fair Play regulations which saw the club fined 60
Lionel Messi perhaps the idea is less ludicrous than it first seems. One of the reasons Messi is less content at Camp Nou right now is the absence of a great friend in the dressing room following the summer departures of best Barca buddies Jose Pinto and Cesc Fabregas. At City, he would link up with compatriots Sergio Aguero, Martin Demichelis and Pablo Zabaleta. The latter is one of Messi’s best friends in football and the two have been close ever since they met at youth levels representing Argentina, while they also saw a lot of each other when the defender played in Barcelona for Espanyol.
million euro by Uefa earlier this year. Nevertheless, PSG officials did make contact with Messi’s camp earlier in 2014 to discuss an extraordinary move from Barcelona to Paris and the Argentine attacker contemplated a deal before deciding to stay with the Catalan club following a visit to his former coach Tito Vilanova. Although it is unclear how PSG could fund a deal for Messi, the capital club could be tempted to part company with several of their star names if it meant they could bring in the Barcelona forward. The club’s current icon, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, may look to leave if PSG move for Messi. The two men enjoyed a positive relationship at Camp Nou, but Messi’s move to a central role ultimately spelt the end for the Swedish striker at Camp Nou. Asked if he would consider signing Messi from fierce rivals Barcelona, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Friday: “There is always space for quality players in my team.” Madrid could certainly afford to buy the Argentine in a deal which would eclipse in controversy even the move for Barca winger Luis Figo back in 2000. President Florentino Perez would love to produce a repeat of that transfer and poach Barca’s biggest star, but knows that current club icon Cristiano Ronaldo would not take well to a possible move for Messi. And in any case, the Argentine would not contemplate turning out for another team in Spain after spending the last 14 years of his life at the Catalan club - least of all the side’s eternal enemy.

Cerci Interest Compliments
Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling ‘Happy’ At Liverpool Eyes New Deal ENGLAND forward Raheem Sterling is ready to commit his long-term future to Liverpool. The 19-year-old, whose existing Anfield contract runs to 2017, has reportedly attracted the interest of European champions Real Madrid, but believes he can realise all his dreams on Merseyside. Quoted in several national newspapers, he said: “I am happy to be here for as long as possible. Hopefully I can achieve the goals I want to achieve here at Liverpool in years to come. “I am just happy to play football at this club for many years to come. The club has spoken to my representatives and hopefully something can be done soon.” Sterling found himself in the spotlight off the pitch recently after England boss Roy
Hodgson revealed the player had told him he was tired ahead of the final training session in the build-up to last month’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia in Tallinn. That led to accusations the teenager had said he did not want to play, but Sterling insists nothing could be further from the truth - and says he has learned from the experience. “It was pretty difficult,” he said. “I tried to not really watch TV much or listen to things. “If I saw a conversation about me on TV, I would just turn over. It was the first time I’d had to deal with anything like that. It was different but I felt I dealt with it really well. I didn’t read too much into it. “The main thing I’ve learned is to just shut off. I was always on my phone and Instagram -
things would pop up and you could not go past it without having a look. But now I’ve learned to block it all out and not read what is said. “I just love playing football for club or country. If anything I said
THE Argentinean manager did not pass comment on Cerci’s situation, other than to claim the rumours were compliments to the La Liga champions. Right winger Cerci is yet to start for Atletico in the Spanish top flight since his off-season switch from Torino, making just four substitute appearances and tallying 78 league minutes. Simeone was seemingly unperturbed by the talk the Italian was keen to head home to the Serie A, while also acknowledging links to the Premier League. “I know what the newspapers say. Manchester United, Inter and Arsenal want Cerci. I am the coach and I haven’t given him opportunities to play,” Simeone said. “Obviously, Atletico Madrid is a great team. “We sold [Martin] Demichelis in a pre-season without playing and I think that if Cerci, who hasn’t played, gets offers from three big teams, [it makes one] remember Atletico Madrid is a great team.” Simeone said he was not snubbing the likes of Cerci due to a lack of confidence, rather he was trying to find the winning combination - with Atletico
Liverpool ‘To Move For England Forward’
LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers wants to sign a new England star; Arsenal are leading the chase for a Chelsea hero; a Manchester United striker is poised to leave; and Chelsea will pip Tottenham to sign a striker – all the top stories from today’s papers. Liverpool ‘to move for England forward’ - Brendan Rodgers wants to sign West Brom hot-shot Saido Berahino in January, according to a report in
the Daily Mirror. Liverpool boss Rodgers is pushing for a move to get the England striker to solve his injury crisis. Tottenham have also been looking at Berahino while Manchester United have been linked with the 21-year-old, according to the paper, with the forward having received his first senior England call-up for this month’s double header against Slovenia and Scotland. It will be a high-profile move from Liverpool, who desperately need a new striker

slipping four points behind leaders Real Madrid after a laststart loss to Real Sociedad. “It is not [a] question of confidence. A coach always thinks about the team,” Simeone added. “And it is very difficult when you have Cerci, (Antoine)

Henry Heaps Promise On Wenger FORMER Arsenal striker Thierry Henry believes manager Arsene Wenger will only be truly appreciated for his achievements with the Gunners when he is no longer their manager. Wenger signed Henry in 1999 for a then club-record fee of around £11million from Juventus and, in his eight years with the club, he became their all-time leading goal scorer, won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups before joining Barcelona. Henry’s departure coincided in a less successful period for the north London side and even though Wenger has managed to guide the Gunners to Champions League group-stage qualification for 17 consecutive seasons, some Arsenal fans questioned the Frenchman’s tenure given their failure to land silverware for nine years until last season. Arsenal finally ended that trophy drought by winning the FA Cup and Henry believes Wenger is a victim of his own success to a certain extent given that he won major honours earlier on during his reign. “When you give people a lot they get used to it and they just expect and demand and rightly so because when you’re at a club like Arsenal people expect and want you to win and that’s the way it is,” Henry, who helped Arsenal avoid defeat in the league during the 2004-05 season, told the BBC’s Football Focus. “For me it’s a no-brainer, the
guy (Wenger) has changed Arsenal Football Club. Was Arsenal successful before? Yes they were, but in a different way. Now Arsenal is recognised for the type of football they play and that’s all down to him.” While Henry was complimentary about Wenger’s achievements at his former club, he insists it will be a tall order for Arsenal to overhaul Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea and win their first league title for 11 years this season. “I do think they have a squad to win the league but they are nine points behind Chelsea. Somehow you have to make sure you can grab somewhere those points hoping that Chelsea is going to lose somewhere,” the New York Red Bulls forward added. “Bear in mind that Chelsea have already went to City, won at Everton, beat you (Arsenal). Nine points (is) three defeats. In the meantime you need to win everything, they need to lose, so when you ask me how far they are (from winning the league), they’re nine points away (at present).” Meanwhile, Wenger has revealed he would welcome Henry onto his Arsenal coaching staff when the 37-year-old retires from playing. “It’s not impossible,” Wenger told the Daily Mail when asked if his former captain could return to the club to coach. “I welcome people who have played for us to come back but not (for just) an honorary job.”
CHELSEA manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t believe his side will finish the season unbeaten, but insists defeat will not lead to crisis at Stamford Bridge. The Blues can extend their unbeaten run to 18 games when they face West Brom on Saturday. But Mourinho does not fear the prospect of picking up a first loss of the campaign and is confident his side are strong enough mentally to bounce back from any such setback and avoid falling into a rut. “The thing that gives us confidence is the results we are getting are not occasional. They’re because we’re playing well,” he told reporters. “We believe that, when we lose points, the next game we are going to play well again. “Against Maribor in the Champions League, we lost two
points but in the next game we were not in crisis. We were at Liverpool to play well again. “I don’t believe there’ll be a Chelsea crisis in the season. I believe Chelsea will lose points and matches, but not in a crisis of results. I truly believe in our ability. “We don’t have pressure to lead. The pressure is for the ones who are coming behind. I always felt the pressure when I was behind, not when I was on the top and I’ve always been competing for titles. “To be first is easier than to be second. If you’re first, you think just about yourself.” Chelsea’s form saw bookmakers Paddy Power pay out early to customers who backed the Blues for the title this season, but Mourinho dismissed suggestions his side were guaranteed to be champions.

Fashola, Deputy For Tennis Final Ceremony In Lagos BABATUNDE Fashola, the Governor of Lagos State and his deputy, Adejoke OrelopeAdefulire will grace the final ceremony of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championships in Lagos. This was contained in a news release made available to news men on Friday in Lagos. The Lagos number one and number two citizens will be at the tennis finals to cheer Nigerian players who made their ways into the finals of the annual international event. This, according to the statement, is a feat that has eluded Nigerian home grown talents in many years of the competitions inception. Nigeria’s Moses Michael and Sarah Adegoke will be in action in the Men’s and Women’s Singles finals respectively. “Michael and Adegoke were simply a delight to watch since the 14th edition of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championships served off on November 17 at the Lagos Lawn Tennis, Onikan. “Michael defeated compatriot Sunday Emmanuel in the men’s singles semi-final game that ended 4-6, 6-3, and 5-1 (retired).
Enyimba, Dolphins Talk Tough Ahead Of Federation Cup Final ALL is set for the final of the 2014 Federation Cup after both Enyimba and Dolphins arrived Lagos on Friday evening ahead of the grand finale slated for tomorrow at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. Defending champions the People’s Elephant were the first to get to Lagos before Dolphins joined them to ensure that the full complement of the two teams competing in the final of the cup game landed in the nation’s commercial city. Enyimba are aiming to follow the record set by their predecessor, Heartland FC that won the competition the last two years before they were eliminated in the quarter final in the 2013 edition by Akwa United on penalties in Kaduna. The Naze Millionaires emerged victorious in 2011 and 2012 finals at the expense of Enyimba and Lobi Stars before the Aba Millionaires pinned Warri Wolves to the crown last year in Lagos. The head coach of Enyimba, Kadiri Ikhana told Goal that the People’s Elephant are itching to play the final game against Dolphins where he revealed they would be chasing after another cup triumph this year to erase the painful memory of losing the league title to Kano Pillars for a second straight season. Ikhana said that Enyimba’s season would be termed incomplete without any trophy to show for their efforts.
“Adegoke proved too hot for Aanu Ayegbusi as she forced her to retire in the second set having won the first set 6-4. In other semifinal matches, Madagascar ’s Zarah Razafinmahatratra beat Nigeria’s Christie Agugbom in straight set of 6-1, 6-0, while Monday Igbinovia lost to Uganda’s Duncan Mugabe in another straight set of 1-6, 3-6,’’ It said. According to the statement, the final pairings will see Michael of Nigeria taking on Mugabe of Uganda in the men’s event, while top seed Razafinmahatratra battles Adegoke of in the Women’s Singles. The Women’s Doubles final was won by the duo of Zarah Razafinmahatratra and Sarah Adegoke after they defeated the pairs of Christie Agugbom and Blessing Samuel in straight set of 6-2, 6-0. In the Men’s Doubles, Takanyi Garanganga of Zimbabwe and Duncan Mugabe of Uganda walked over the duo of Clifford Enosoregbe and Daouda Ndiaye of Senegal, who complained of injury. Meanwhile, the Local Organising Committee, LOC, said the final matches on Saturday would be preceded by a Juniors Clinic which holds from 7.30am to 1pm. The final of the Women’s Singles starts immediately after followed by the Men’s Singles which Governor Fashola and other dignitaries are expected to watch.

Players Lauds Organisers Of Governor’s Cup Tennis SOME of the players at the ongoing Governor’s Cup Tennis Championships in Lagos on Friday lauded the organisers for adequately catering for the feeding and accommodation of players. Zarah Razafinmahatratra from Madagascar told newsmen at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, venue of the tournament, that the
organizers took good care of all the competitors. Razafinmahatratra said that she enjoyed the good accommodation and feeding offered the players by the organisers, Lagos State Sports Council. “Everything in my hotel room was okay, neat environment, tantalizing breakfast, luch and
However, Ancelotti believes Ronaldo is the only outstanding choice:”Xabi is among the few who think Ronaldo will not win the Golden Ball [Ballon d’Or]. “It seems like people are forgetting that Ronaldo scored 17 goals in Champions League. We should talk about the Golden Ball of the next year, because for this one, there is no doubt.” Madrid have been dealt a blow following the news Luka Modric will be missing for three months with a thigh injury. His absence means Sami Khedira is set to be brought in from the cold, having long been linked with a move away from the club. “The absence of Modric is
important, but we can fix it with other important players. If Khedira has not fully recovered, we will play with Isco as midfielder. “Isco gives me more quality. Khedira, more physical. Isco is happy to play in any position that I put him. “Illarramendi can also play with Kroos.” Ancelotti also added that youth product Alvaro Medran is training with the first team in light of Modric’s absence, while ruling out the prospect of Jese Rodriguez leaving the club on loan in January, despite his bitpart role since returning from a serious knee injury.
I’d Sign Messi - Ancelotti REAL Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti says he would be interested in signing Lionel Messi if he decides to leave archrivals Barcelona at the end of the season. The 27-year-old sparked headlines on the back pages of newspapers across the world after revealing he would consider all options available to him once the current campaign is over. A host of high profile names have made the controversial move from Camp Nou to the Santiago Bernabeu over the years and Ancelotti is open to the idea of lowering the Clasico drawbridge again. “Messi could be a fix at Real Madrid? All quality teams have space in their side for quality players,” he told reporters at Friday’s press conference. The arrival of Messi, as farfetched as it may seem, would see the Argentine paired with his long time rival Cristiano Ronaldo. Between them, the two players have won the Ballon d’Or six times, but it is Ronaldo who is the stand out favourite to win the trophy for a third time in January. Earlier this week Manuel Neuer appeared to endorse his own case for winning the prize after claiming he didn’t need an underwear campaign to support his case, in a jibe at the Portugal captain. Former Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, now at Bayern, then voiced his support for Neuer to be named the world’s best player on the back of his World Cup success.
dinner; it is ok. “There was problem yesterday, I was asked to check out of the hotel, that it was booked for four days. “As soon as I contacted the organisers about the issue, it was rectified. “The food here is spicey unlike what we have in my country where we do the spicing by ourselves. “All the same, everything is ok. I like everything about Nigeria, I do not know why,” she said. Another player, Takanyi Garanganga from Zimbabwe, said that his accommodation at the Eko Hotel was a nice one. “I enjoy every bit of the food
served at my table in the hotel.’’ Garanganga, however, pointed out that players were not allowed to sit in the club’s house, saying that it was hot sitting outside. Also, Patience Onepamhoin, a Nigerian, commended the organisers for providing the opportunity for upcoming athletes to showcase their talents. “It is nice having an invitational event like this. I feel great having the opportunity to show my talent. “Kudos to all players who came into the country for the tournament in spite of the Boko Haram insurgency, they still see Nigeria as their home,” she said. NAN reports that the competition is aimed at bringing out the best in the players.
FCT Football League:
Wazobia FC Beat State WAZOBIA Football Club of Abuja on Friday defeated the House FC State House FC 2-0 in one of the matches in the knockout stage of the ongoing 2014 FCT League. In the match played at the Area 3 Sports Complex in Abuja, State House FC dominated proceedings in the first half with an offensive game. This kept the Wazobia FC side on the backfoot for most moments of the first half. But, in a quick switch, Wazobia FC’s striker Chukwuma Ohionu converted a free-kick to give his side the first goal in the 18th minute of the game. State House FC came close to getting an equaliser in the 27th minute through striker Nasir Ibrahim. Samsom Ameh of State House FC extended the tally for Wazobia FC in the 38th minute. State House FC’s fightback was futile as they could not convert their chances to goals. At the end of it all, Eze Paul, Wazobia FC’s coach, said he was
happy that his team won in spite of playing below expectations. “They did not play up to my expectations, because in our previous matches we played better than this. “We were leading our group. We won all our matches for us to qualify for the knockout stage. Now, we will go back home and prepare for the next stage,’’ he said. Hassan Mohammed, State House FC coach, said he was disappointed with the outcome of the game. “We played below average. The problem was that my players could not convert their chances to goals. “But we will go back to the drawing board and prepare for the next game ahead of us,’’ he said. Newsmen reports that the second match of the day saw Alpha FC defeat Pyakasa United Football Club 1-0.
