Anenih, Others Preach Peaceful Co-existence Continued from pg.1 Governors Forum, said the party was owned by “all Nigerians’’. He also emphasised the need for peace to reign in the country for the country to be run smoothly. Akpabio claimed that statistics showed that the best states at the moment in the country were the ones being run by PDP governors. He also said PDP governors had resolved to give adequate support to President Goodluck Jonathan in the running of the country. “The President has succeeded with ‘an uncommon performance’, leading to the reaping of democratic dividends by the people. “The uncommon reformation in both the power, health and aviation sectors are great

achievements. “For the first time in 10 years, the rails are now running and airports are wearing new-looks, just as peace is being restored in the troubled Northern parts of the country,’’ Akpabio said. Mrs. Josephine Anenih, a former PDP National Women Leader appealed “to every aggrieved person in the party to always embrace dialogue. “Try and avoid unnecessary distraction because dialogue is the only solution to peace.’’ She pointed out that “the unity of the country must be paramount to all’’. A Nigerian music icon, Onyeka Onwenu who rendered her popular “One Love’’ song, also urged all Nigerians to embrace peace. She said the party’s vision of transforming the nation through

the provision of basic infrastructure and human dignity would be “achieved with true love and peace’’. Meanwhile, a mild drama had earlier ensued at the pavilion where the Anambra delegates were staying at the event’s venue. This was when Mr. Tony Nwoye, a PDP-recognised governorship candidate in the state, arrived at the venue and attempted to take his seat at the pavilion reserved for Anambra delegates. Supporters of Andy Uba, the INEC-recognised governorship candidate, and who were already seated, stopped him from taking his seat. This action led to fighting, before Nwoye was eventually made to sit somewhere else for the convention to continue.

Speaking further, the Benin Princess said that comrade Oshiomole recently received an award in Abuja for the high percentage of women in his government, stating that though the federal government was said to have hit the 35 percent affirmative ratio in the appointment of women, the percentage ascribed to Edo state was incorrect as her office was not counted in the number of women in appointive and elective positions in the state. She called on Nigerian women to work hard in whatever profession they are in, while not hiding under their gender to lazy away. “For a woman to succeed anywhere, whether in the business world or in the service, she needs to work twice as hard as the men, you should not allow your gender to be a hindrance, so as to be able to face the challenges of your office and move ahead” she stressed.

NEWS Council Sensitises Communities On Flood Control By AUDU ADAMA

RESIDENTS of Edo North Senatorial District of Edo State have been warned that they have only experienced less than half of the predicted rainfall for the zone between September and the first week of December, 2013. This warning was handed down by Mr. Ibiam of the National Metrological Agency, Abuja at the Palace of the Oliola of Anegbettee HRH. Oba M. M. Ugbodaga the clan head of South Uneme during a two-day Sensitization/Early warning campaign organized by Etsako Central Local Government Council, for erosion-prone communities in the locality. While briefing Anegbette community on the statutory functions of the Federal Agency, Mr. Ibiam stressed that as part of its early warning duties, the National Metrological Agency forecasts, look at zones and communities that would be disaster or flood-prone at a given time and then give advise on preparedness and mitigation stressing that this informed the decision of the

Agency to heed the call of Etsako Central Local Government Council for the sensitization campaign. Mr. Ibiam further disclosed that though Edo State may not have been captured this year as one of those to experience excessive rain fall and flooding, Mr. Ibiam however warned that Edo State shares her borders with those that have been predicted to experience excessive rain and flooding this year. The implication of this, he noted, is that if the predicted zones are over flooded, there is the likelihood that the state and indeed some communities in Edo North would likely be affected. Mr. Ibiam argued that rain is friendly to man by its very nature, but was quick to add that “it becomes unfriendly when obstructed, which makes it to fight back”. Mr. Ibiam further warned Anegbette Community that by its very nature, they would constantly be prone to flooding but however counseled the people that as a way of mitigating the impact of any impending excessive flooding, they should on daily basis

clean their gutters, avoid building houses on waterways or across gutters, while the farmers should ensure that provision is made for flood to flow freely by not heaping sand on water ways. He advised those that live very close to the bank of the

River Niger to relocate now. This message was corroborated by Edo State Director of National Orientation Agency Mrs. Magdaline Umunnah. Earlier, the Vice Chairman of the Council Hon Charles Eshiesimua, who stood in for

LOCAL Government Administrators across the country have been tasked on purposeful governance by embarking on projects that would positively impact the citizenry. Chief Joseph Akgigbe Alemoh (J.P) a two-time chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Council Fugar, was speaking in an exclusive interview with THE SUNDAY OBSERVER. Chief Alemoh who spoke of the need for younger politicians to emulate role models in public service said that the problem with many young politicians who are in position of authority is that they always want to use cultists to achieve their objectives which he noted was inimical to the progress of any society. Chief Alemoh further advised politicians in position of authority not to look at what they will benefit from the Community they serve but what the Community can benefit from

the Local Government Council. He disclosed that with just six million naira federal monthly allocation, he was able to achieve much by way of executing peoplesoriented programmes during his days as chairman of council. Hon Alemoh further noted, he had to collect money for stores; street-

naming; blocking of street during burial ceremonies; child birth registration; among others as Internally Generated Revenue. He decried the caliber of persons most politicians now used as advisers whose stock-in-trade in office is solely to make money and not to work.. On the newly registered All Peoples Congress (The APC) Chief Alemoh appealed to its

members to work as a family. Chief Alemoh also appealed to the bigger parties with the APC to realize that the party is not the only party within that union and to ensure that everyone is given that sense of belonging in choosing party officials. Chief Alemoh enjoined the party leaders to allow new breed with better focus to come in so that there could be a visible difference between the APC and other parties.

Oftentimes, they are false. It is better to watch

He contended that issues concerning the government were very sensitive and should be handled seriously to allow those in leadership position to lead well. Okoh called on

Fadipe submitted that the accused defrauded the accommodation seekers between July 7, 2012 and September 5, 2012. Fadipe, who works in the Legal Department of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, said that the accused collected rent from Mr Soji Ekundayo and 24 others. “ Unknown to Soji, he had rented property to 24 people already, and the 12th person was fast enough to move into the apartment. “Soji and the others, who could not move in, demanded for their money. When settlement proved impossible, the police were invited.’’ Fadipe said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 313 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Reports say that fraud is punishable with 15 years imprisonment while a thief is liable to three years imprisonment, according to Sections 313 and 285, respectively. Atande, however, pleaded not guilty. The Chief Magistrate, Ms S.O. Solebo, granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties. Solebo adjourned the case to September 25 for mention.

NEWS TY Danjuma Foundation Spends N1.6bn On Projects In 3 Years

L-R: Board member, International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science, Mr. Patrick Chattad; National President, Association of Medical Laboratory Sciences in Nigeria, Dr. Godwill Okara; representative of the Minister of Health, Mrs. Nkechi Nwoke and representative of the Medical Laboratory Council, Dr. Donald Ofili, at the inauguration of the steering board of the African Postgraduate College of Medical Sciences in Abuja, Weekend.

THE TY Danjuma Foundation (TYF) spent about N1.6 billion on more than 70 projects in 18 states between 2010 and 2013. The executive director of the foundation, Mrs Florence Kin-Aira, said this while fielding questions from newsmen at a breakfast meeting with its partners at the weekend at the Living Faith Goshen City on the Abuja-Keffi expressway. Kin-Aira said the foundation received more than 1,500 project proposals from development partners in the country, adding that 210 projects had yet to be completed.

LCCI Commends FG On Specialised Lending Bank

THE Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has commended the proposal of Federal Government to establish a special financial institution to attract funds into the country. Mr Muda Yusuf, the Director-General of LCCI, told newsmen in Lagos that such institution would address the problem of inadequate funding by the financial sector. Recalled that the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said recently in Ilorin that the Federal Government would establish a special institution to attract funds into the economy at lower interest rates. She said that the institution would lend to the Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture and commercial banks to ensure that interest rates were

reduced to sustainable levels for indigenous industries to grow. Yusuf said that the Federal Government’s intervention was timely because of the difficulties being encountered by entrepreneurs in accessing loans from commercial banks. “We are excited to observe that the concern of the chamber on high interest rates is now being shared by the Federal Government. “High interest rates remain one of the major challenges of enterprises in Nigeria, especially the indigenous ones. “The acknowledgement of this reality by the coordinating minister for the economy is a welcome

development and indeed a relief,” he said. Yusuf said that the chamber had, at every turn, highlighted the profound and negative impact of high interest rates on the economy. “The issues of high fiscal deficit and high yield on government debt instruments have contributed to high

and other students as well; we have stayed at home for three months. “By the time they call off the strike, lecturers would have no choice than to run through their lectures. There would be no time for us to prepare adequately. “We will be left with no option than to start examination without proper lectures and end up being half-baked graduates in Nigeria”, she said. Agnes called on the government to invest in education to produce good leaders for the future. She also urged ASUU and

Zone of the association held at Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort in Ekiti. He said growing the manufacturing sector was fundamental to sustaining economic development. “The manufacturing sector remains the soul of every economy because it creates jobs, improves living standards and helps to grow domestic wealth, especially when they are export- driven. “A strong manufacturing base is expected to also help to prevent or minimise huge import tendencies. “No major nation has managed to transform itself from a poor nation to a rich nation by relying solely on import of raw materials without a vibrant industrial sector,’’ Daramola said. Also speaking, the guest speaker, Prof. Sunday Otokiti, said that significant effort must be placed on manufacturing for the country to achieve its objectives. Otokiti, in his lecture entitled, “Re-Evaluating Manufacturing Potentials in South-West Nigeria,’’ said: “Manufacturing has proved to be a driver and core instrument adopted by the developed countries.

“To grow our industries, we need to look inward on ways of producing our needs without necessarily outsourcing for them. “The highest priority should be given to technologies that expand the availability of raw materials,’’ Otokiti said. Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi represented by the Commissioner for Trade. Investment and Innovation, Mr Debo Ajayi, said government was creating an investment friendly environment for businesses to thrive. “The south-west regional integration project, when fully implemented, will improve the economy of the region and improve living standards through cooperation among the states. “We need to work together to bring about the transformation we desire. “To effectively do this, the organised private sector must be included in policy making and decision making processes,’’ he said. Fayemi added that government’s intention in providing infrastructural development was aimed at realising the objectives of the transformation agenda.

Students Urge FG To Resolve Differences federal government to resolve With ASUU SOME university students in Port Harcourt have urged the Federal Government to resolve their differences with ASUU in order to end the ongoing strike. The students made the call at the weekend in an interview with newsmen at a workshop organised by youths of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Port Harcourt. Miss Agnes Sampson, a student of the University of Calabar, said the strikes had made the country to produce half-baked graduates in different disciplines. “The strike is having a very bad effect on me as a student,

interest rates. “The high operating cost of financial institutions is also a major factor. “Our monetary policies should be flexible for the benefits of entrepreneurs in business. “It is also very critical to ensure access to credit, especially by the Small and

Medium Enterprises, by easing the collateral conditions for lending,” he said. Yusuf advised the Federal Government to create a structure and process that would ensure the survival of this special bank. “We hope that the new thrust of policy to bring down interest rates will be sustained,” he said.

their differences in the interest of the nation. Mr Nyakno Ekpo, a student of University of Uyo, also said that government should reach an understanding with ASUU or hand over the schools to the private sector. Miss Cynthia Uddoh, a student of the University of Port Harcourt urged government and ASUU to reach an amicable agreement to resolve the crisis. “We are tired of staying at home. We plead with the federal government and ASUU to find a solution and end the strike. ‘’ It pays nobody if the strike continues’’, she said.

She said the foundation’s board was satisfied with the performance of its partners in its target areas of community health, education and women empowerment. She, however, said that the funding of one of its grant taker projects had been stopped while another was being investigated for poor management of funds. Kin-Aira said the organisation would not hesitate to blacklist erring development partners and stop funding of their projects if they were found wanting in the discharge of their mandate. She said the foundation had well-designed measures for evaluating the performance of its partners based on the resources released to them. Kin-Aira dismissed insinuations that the drop in the number of projects funded by the foundation was as a result of insincerity on the part of its partners. “I want to explain this point clearly, if you take a look at the statistics of our interventions since 2010, you will observe a progression in the number of projects funded by us. “The drop is as a result of the peculiarity of 2013, it is our strategic planning year and we are supposed to focus on planning alone. “But instead of saying we are not going to fund any project, we decided to take on 10 projects spread across the nation,’’ she said. She explained that documenting the results of its grants and sharing relevant information with members of the public remained some of its biggest challenges as a grant-making organisation. The executive director said that the foundation would be meeting with its partners to design a strategic plan for the next five years. Mr Naser Ahmad-Khan, the director of Water programme at the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, appealed to the media to play an active role in the development of grantmaking organisations in Nigeria. He said the media was strategic in mobilising the critical segment of the society for alleviating the suffering of people in the rural areas.

WORLD NEWS UN Experts Leave Syria As US Edges Toward Strike THE U.N. experts investigating last week’s alleged chemical weapons strike outside Damascus left Syria and crossed into neighboring Lebanon early Saturday, departing hours after President Barack Obama said he is weighing “limited and narrow” action against a Syrian regime that the administration has accused of launching the deadly attack. An Associated Press crew saw the U.N. personnel enter Lebanon from Syria through the Masnaa border crossing and then drive in a 13-car convoy to the Beirut airport. After four days of on-site inspections, the team wrapped up its investigation Friday into the

suspected chemical attack on rebel-held suburbs of Damascus on Aug. 21. The experts take with them blood and urine samples from victims as well as soil samples from the affected areas for examination in laboratories in Europe. The United Nations has said it will try to expedite its final report, and U.N. disarmament chief Angela Kane is to brief Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon later Saturday on the investigation. With the inspectors now out of Syria, the looming confrontation between the U.S. and President Bashar Assad’s regime moves one step closer to coming to a head. Most observers viewed U.S. military

action as unlikely while the U.N. team was still on the ground inside Syria, but the American administration has made clear that it is confident in its assessment and could act before the United Nations releases the results of its probe. Obama has said that if he opts for a military strike, any operation would be limited in scope and only aimed at punishing Assad for his alleged use of chemical weapons. But U.S. action carries the potential to trigger retaliation by the Syrian regime or its proxies against U.S. allies in the region, such as Jordan, Turkey and Israel. That would inject a dangerous new dynamic into a Syrian civil war

Al Qaeda Affiliate Urges Attacks On Egyptian Army ONE of al Qaeda’s most militant affiliates has called on Egyptians to take up arms against their army, saying a bloody crackdown on Islamist protesters showed peaceful methods were futile, according to an Internet statement posted on Saturday. Scores of Egyptian security forces have been killed in a series of attacks by suspected Islamist militants - mostly in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula since Islamist President Mohamed Mursi was deposed last month. Mursi’s Muslim Brotherhood renounced violence decades ago and denies any links with militants, including those in Sinai who have gained strength since President Hosni Mubarak was forced to step down in 2011. There is nothing more right in God’s religion (Islam) than those who speak of the infidelity, reneging on Islam and abandonment of religion, and call for the necessity to fight these armies, foremost of

which is the Egyptian army,” said Abu Mohammed alAdnani, spokesman for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), according to the Arabic recording. “The Egyptian army is part and a mere copy of these armies which are seeking in a deadly effort to prevent God’s laws from being adopted and trying hard to consecrate the principles of secularism and man-made laws,” he said. Mounting insecurity in Sinai worries the United States because the area is next to Israel and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, as well as the Suez Canal. Adnani lashed out at the Brotherhood and the smaller, Salafist al-Nour party, saying they have been co-opted to non-violence and what he called the futile secular approach to power through elections and democracy, which he said had left Muslim Brotherhood members either in jail, dead or fugitives.

others, local authorities said. The leak occurred at 10:50 am local time (0250 GMT / 10:50 p.m. EDT) at Shanghai Weng’s Cold Storage Industrial Co. Ltd., located in the Baoshan district of eastern Shanghai, the Shanghai municipal government said on its official Sina Weibo account. Six of those injured were in a critical condition, the government said. China, the world’s second-largest economy, has a poor record on workplace safety. In June, at 120 people died and 77 were injured when a fire engulfed a chicken processing plant in northeastern Jilin province. Many of China’s deadly industrial accidents happen in the huge coal mining industry, in which more than 1,300 people died last year from explosions, mine collapses and floods

Your Turn To Dance MEMORISE I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generation. Psalms 89:1 Read: Psalm 89:1-5. THE presence of the anointing generates something new. In Judges 14:56, when a lion attacked Samson, the anointing of God came heavily upon him and the lion was easily destroyed. Also in Judges 15:14-16 when Samson was bound and brought to his enemies, the anointing descended upon him and the yokes were destroyed. With the jaw bone of an ass he leveled 1000 enemies, while the rest fled. As the anointing of God comes upon you this season, every yoke of the enemy upon your life shall be destroyed. Every rope or chain tying you and your destiny down shall be destroyed in Jesus name. What about an ordinary farmer like

Saul? When the anointing oil touched his head, he began to prophecy (1 Samuel 10:1-11). There is a link between the anointing and singing particularly singing a new song. In John 9:1-25, the man who was born blind had his eyes anointed by Jesus and he regained his sight and began to sing: ‘I was blind but now I see’. Are you physically blind or are you spiritually blind? As the anointing of God touches you this season, you shall receive your sight. Beside the erstwhile blind man, David also sang a new song. In Psalm 89:1, he kept saying, “I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever”. When you look at his life, I believe he had several reasons to sing. He was a forgotten

shepherd boy but the anointing turned him into the king of the whole nation. Whenever the anointing flows, new things are bound to happen that will make people sing. Usually, when people experience a thing of joy – particularly when it is of a great measure, they will subconsciously begin to sing and dance. This season is your joyful season. This season is your dancing season. Key in by faith into the next anointing service, trusting God for specific things and the Lord will hear you. You will sing and dance and people will dance and celebrate with you. Your sorrow will give way to dancing. Your weeping has come to an end and joy is taking over your situation. Prayer point Father, because it is my turn to chance in your plan, let my dancing and celebration manifest now.

“Whenever the anointing flows, new things are bound to happen that will make people sing. Usually, when people experience a thing of joy – particularly when it is of a great measure, they will subconsciously begin to sing and dance.”

One of the country’s two state-run University-meaning it will have no first year students when the new term begins in September. A University official told the BBC that students who took the test did not have a basic grasp of English and “lacked Enthusiasm”, but the country’s education minister said she find it hard to believe that not a single

Odd News candidate managed to pass. Etmonia david-Tarpeh said she would be meeting with officials from the university to discuss the dismal failure rate. She acknowledged that there were weaknesses in the education system in Liberia, which is still recovering from a civil war which ended 10 years ago, but said she had her doubts that no one could have passed. A spokesman for the university said it would be standing by its decision, and that the government needed to do more to improve student’s knowledge of English

Colonel Meow Sets World Record For Longest COLONEL Meow has people all around to the old to became a viral internet Fur earned his place in the new Guinness World Records 2014 book for having the longest fur on a cat. Plenty of celebs are in the Guinness Book of World Records, including Justin Bieber (most popular online video) Lady Gaga (most Twitter followers), and Prince William and Duchese Kate (their wedding was the most livestreamed event ever). But they will all need to move over and make room for a very special Guinness Book addition: Colonel Meow who has officially won the honor of Longest Fur on a Cat. The two year old Himalayan-Persian crossbreed cat’s fur is nine inches long, easily securing his place in the 2014 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. The cat

sensation this year when his owners, Anne MARIE Avey and Eric Rosario, began posting pictures and videos of the hilariously adorable colonel online. Now, the Los Angeles Kitty has more than 178,000 facebook fans and 73,000 Instagram followers. His long hair, big eyes, and “epic frown” combine for a very funny and striking overall look, and his owners love to pretend that the colonel is an

actual dictator on his social media profiles. The two-year old feline, named Colonel Meow because of his epic frown and fur, will celebrate his achievement with his owners in Los Angeles. “Colonel Meow is being groomed for stardom and I know the furry feline will be a big hit with readers,” Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said in a statement. “He’s an incredible creature, and he’ll undoubtedly inspire

The laws we have do not talk about it but for such a union to be recognized in Kenya, it has to be either under the statutory law or as customary marriage. But local officials say they are concerned that the snow and rain that fell over the weekend could cause some rivers to flood as has happened in the past. The national tourism office says the road to the city was temporarily blocked due to the unusual weather. Officials have not ordered any evacuation, although they expect more rain in the area. The desert is described as the driest hot desert in the world. It is made up mostly of salt lakes, sand and felsic lava. Its average rainfall is less than one inch.

Woman Steals Back DON’T steal from Kayla Her Bike Smith, because the Vancouver woman won’t hesitate to steal right back. After her $1000 bicycle was stolen while locked at the Olympic village, Smith became despondent. “I was like, I’m a good person, like, why would someone do this to me”? She told NBC Kelvin Tibbles. Then, when a friend noticed a craigslist ad for a similar bike selling for $300, she got mad. “Asked for Karma to run him over with a flatbed truck”. “I was so angry”. Smith had contact police but thought they might take too long to act. “THE GUY IS SELLING MY BIKE NOW”!!! she wrote on the online site Reddit. “I am not missing this opportunity waiting for a call. So I jump into action”. Smith turn vigilante and set up a sting, she made arrangements to meet the seller at a local McDonald’s

parking lot. She told the seller she needed a test drive. She said the man hesitated but warily let her try out the bike. That’s when Smith hopped on, started pedalingand never returned. “I was feeling like an NFL player, like, just scored a touched down! I was like, yeah”! she told Tibbles. Though police say her taking matters into her own hands was a dangerous idea, Kayla Smith is happily back on her bike again. Why Smith’s has a happy ending, authorities warn following against her example.

Chinese Kidnappers Give Hostage Money

TALK about a change of heart. Two Chinese kidnappers, identified only by their last names – Lu and Xie - grabbed an 11-year-old girl in hope of getting a hefty ransom in return for her release, Shanghai Daily reported. However, once the pair learned that the girl’s family was poor, and there was no way that they would be able to come up with the mote than $160,000 they were demanding, Lu and Xie decided to set the girl free and give her about $80, too. The girl was unharmed and the criminals to change courses while they’re in the midst of carrying out a scheme, it does happen every once in a while. Last month, Burglars broke into a San Bernardino, Calif, nonprofit that helps victims of sexual violence and made off

with six computers with hard drives, a laptop, and a bag of valuables, NBC Los Angeles reported. But, once the thieves realized that they had stolen from the San Bernardino country sexual Assault Services, they returned the items and left a pretty heartwarming note, too. “We had no idea what we were taking. Here your stuff back. We hope that you guys can continue to make a difference in people’s lives. God bless”, the note read. Everyone involved, police and the organization’s employees were stunned and elated. “We were all pretty shocked”, Candy Satllings, the nonprofit’s executive director, told the news outlet. “you’ve got to be kidding me. I was in disbelief, I got chills, I got very emotional”.

R E S TO R AT I O N according to the Oxford Advanced Learner Dictionary means, the act of returning something to its correct place, condition or owner. In my known words, it is getting back what was originally yours but for sometime now has been taken from you either forcefully, trickishly or other wise. It ranges from good health, finances, family, marriage, career, ministry etc. The major actor behind your ordeal is the devil and his cohorts because the Bible says in the book of John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly”. So the works of the devil is to kill and destroy that which God gave to you from the beginning through his agents and cunning ways but Jesus came too as an agent of total restoration. No matter what you have lost, with Jesus you can get them back. God speaking in the book of Joel 2:25-26 “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed”. I dare to prophecy that your restoration is possible; whatsoever the devil has taken from you that is now giving you shame, is it your salvation, the prodigal son lost contact with his father, squandered the father’s wealth but when he made up his mind to come back to his father as a slave yet he was received by his father as a son. No matter your moral decadence, if you can come back to the father (God through Jesus Christ) He will give back the salvation you have lost. He said in the book of Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool”. 1John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse

us from all unrighteousness. Have you lost your finance, it can be restored because the Bible said in the book of Job 20:15 “He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly. So get ready for financial restoration because it is possible. Many have lost their children to drugs addiction, even their marriage bed to immorality. Jonah in the Bible found himself in the belly of the fish beneath the water i.e he fell below expectation and yet in Jonah 2:2 &10 “And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land”. My sincere prayers for you is that God will take you from where you are to where you ought to be in life in Jesus name. In the book of Luke 13:10-13. Jesus encountered a woman that was bent with the spirit of infirmity for eighteen years and could not work straight. Because one of Jesus major assignment is to destroy the works of the devil (1John 3:8b), He commanded the woman be loosed from her infirmity and immediately her health was restored. I prophecy to

enemy, yet God helped him and he recovered all. Let’s look at what happened and the secret he explored to recover that which was taken from him. 1 Samuel 30:1-8 please read from your Bible. From this scriptures, learn the following secret about restoration. (1) David discovered that his family has been taken and his property destroyed. Restoration starts with discovery. You discover to recover. What you don’t know is yours, even when it is taken from you and you are suffering the effect of the absence of that thing you will not have the zeal to pursue to recovery because you don’t know. Knowledge of your inheritance is very important. We further discuss this in our subsequent editions. (2) He had challenges: “For the people thought of stoning him” challenges make champions. Challenges that make a man a liability and less than what he was created for. You are greater than the challenge, encourage yourself in the Lord and move forward. (3) He was a man of inquiry: David’s greatest secret was this “He would always want to know God’s mind towards the matter before going ahead. Many has tried themselves and failed, why not try God. You can know God’s mind towards a particular matter through. a) Godly counsel from true men of God b) Fasting and praying to inquire from God. God still speak, it is only men that don’t hear c) Christian proven literature talking about the issue in question. (4) Pursuit: One thing is to know what the enemies have taken, face the challenge, know the mind of God concerning the matter and the final thing is to go possess your possession by a diligent pursuit of what is rightfully yours. Hear the end report of David’s restoration in 1Samuel 30:18-19 “And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives. And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all”. In the name of Jesus Christ your restoration is sure.

Protecting Your Environment:

A Collective Approach OUR environment today is bedeviled with a lot of human activities which has led to the gradual disruption of the natural order of our environment, these various human activities have paved way to what we now have as environment issues which if left unattended to can lead to the loss of lives, properties and even our environment. Hence all stake holders must play active part in protecting our environment with a view of bequeathing same to the next generation as was bequeathed to us by our forebears. Environmental issues or problems are harmful aspects of human activity on the biophysical environment. They are the negative aspects of human activities on our natural environment. Planet earth passed on its legacy of a four billion years of development of sustainable environment to humans and they left the habitat, landscape and region untouched. The loss of biodiversity, habitat destruction, depletion of emerging or mineral sources, deforestation, climate change, global warming, underground water contamination and environmental pollution are all part of environmental issues. Humans have a greater negative impact on earth’s, environment than it can sustain and is outside of its carrying capacity. Studies and scientific research on environmental degradation reveals that we have only a few years left to change the way we live, to pressure our depleting ecosystems and natural habitats and to reduce our emission of green house gasses to prevent catastrophic changes on earth’s climate which can also result in mass extinction of species. Humans have altered the face of the earth more than any other species and the pace with which this change is progressing is threatening. Nearly 80

percent of the earth’s surface is already marked by humans and the hunt is on to mark the rest. Our hunger for resources will soon become a challenge to sustain on planet earth. Due to all these life threatening environmental issues, there is the clarion call by the government, non-governmental organizations and well meaning individuals working for the conservation or preservation of our environment, that all humans irrespective of race, creed, country or status must join hands in this move to protect our environment. In the case of Nigeria, the numerous environmental issues should not be handled with kid-gloves, as issues such as oil-spills, lead-poisoning, gas planning, deforestation and flooding have become the major threat to our environment. In the year 2012, Nigeria lost N2.6 trillion to the 2012 flood disaster according to the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Muhammed Sami-Sadi, he said the disaster, affected seven million people, displaced 2.3 million others and damaged 597,476 houses. According to him “the flood was a classical case of how disaster can reverse development in a developing country like

Nigeria. However, the calamities wrought by the 2012 floods offer for our country an important window of opportunity to address difficulties and l o n g - s t a n d i n g d e v e l o p m e n t (environmental) issues. Bearing the flooding incident of last year in mind and the recent prediction of Nigeria metrological Agency (NIMET) which predicted

the gutters and drainages are stopped and government on its own part should sensitize the citizens and make appropriate laws to punish offenders and enforcing same, while nong o v e r n m e n t a l organizations should also play the role of watch dog in order to safe guard our environment. This is not to say that flooding is the only or major environmental

Environment With ANTHONY AIBANGBEE environment and air unsafe for human habitation, while the frequent oil spills also in the Niger-Delta has left our rivers unsafe for drinking and fishing while the land also remains unhealthy for farming and the uncontrolled poaching in our forest and rivers has led to the extinction of numerous species, amongst others. These various environmental problems that abound in our dear country is as a result of the lackadaisical attitude of

Director-General, NIMET, Dr. Anthony Anuforom more rains this year, citizens, government and all stake holders must make sure that the effect of the coming flood is minimized to the barest minimum, our activities such as dumping refuse in

“If we don’t protect the environment, we cannot have sustainable development. We must do our parts as individuals and community, as non-governmental organizations, federal and state governments on the issue of the environment. We must be united and we must create sufficient time to deal with the issues and articulate medium and long term strategies”.

citizens, organizations and government as each of them play the ‘Blame Game’ to their own dentriment and that of the environment. It is with the aim of eradicating these problems that Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State pledged to partner with the federal government’s National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) to tackle environmental problems in the country. According to him, “we need Inter-ministerial approach sometimes. Some of the flooding disasters we are experiencing in Edo State was as a result of negligence on the part of engineers involved in the designing of roads”.

According to the Governor, “Nigeria has laws that are observed only in breach. It is not for us to lament the breach of the past but to put an end to it. We must ensure that environmental laws are enforced strictly and steps are taken to make sure that violation will attract sanction”. Environmental disasters are on the rise. Around 70 percent of disasters are now environmental related-up from around 50 percent from 2 decades ago. These disasters take a heavier human toll and come with a higher price tag. In the last decade, 2.4 billion people were affected by climate related disaster, compared to 1.7 billion in the previous decade. The cost of responding to disasters has risen tenfold between 1992 and 2008. Destructive sudden heavy rains, intense tropical storms, repeated flooding and droughts are likely to increase, as will the vulnerability of local communities in the absence of strong concerted action”. Reducing our impacts as humans on the environment and living a green life can protect our environment from further destruction. Planet earth is the only known planet in the universe that has lifesupporting capabilities and we must keep it clean and green for our sustainable future. The protection of our environment once again, is a collective approach which must not be left for an individual, government or organization alone, if we wish to bequeath a healthy environment deprived of disasters or life-threatening occurrences to our future generation. Infact the words of the Comrade Governor of Edo State sums it up “if we don’t protect the environment, we cannot have sustainable development. We must do our parts as individuals and community, as nong o v e r n m e n t a l organizations, federal and state government on the issue of the environment. We must be united and we must create sufficient time to deal with the issues and articulate medium and long term strategies”.

What Is Your Take On Senate Failure To Pass LG Autonomy Bill? THE proposed local government Autonomy bill which was passed by the house of Representative, when passed into law was to grant the local government in Nigeria access to funds allocated to it and also bring governance and development to the grassroots. This gesture by the house of Representative was applauded by majority of the citizens of Nigeria but their joy was short-lived when the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria refused to pass the bill, there by dashing the hope of many who have always yearned for local government autonomy, since they see it as an avenue for grassroot development. Naked Truth went to town, to sought the divergent views of members of the public on this matter of National Importance. Their views are presented here for your reading delight. They want to do the bidding of state governors – Leo Atakpu It is because they want to do the bidding of state governors who are opposed to local government autonomy. This is regrettable because laws are meant to be made for today and tomorrow, not for individuals. It is the same thing for request for state police. Local government autonomy is an imperative for the entrenchment of democracy at the grassroots, any opposition to this is self serving and unfortunate shame to the senate. They are being teleguided by some governors – Comrade Pius Edo Self preservation is the first law of man and nature, but if it becomes antithetical to the preaching of the church and other men of goodwill it becomes sentimental on selfish basis. Senators are being teleguided by the Governors who see the autonomy of local government councils as a very big blow or rather a check on their powers to manipulate the councils chairmen and their allocations as they like. I wonder why some top government officials still preach fairness and justice in

a country where non exist leaders at the three tiers of government are voted in to take full control of the positions they are voted into. If the governors are not behind it, they should impress it on the senators to pass the bill. What is good for the goose is also good for the Gander. Every right thinking Nigerian should support the autonomy of local government as it is the only way to hold the councils chairman accountable to the people at the grassroot. They were either bribed or get share from LG allocation – Osaretin Okhomina That the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria failed to endorse the Local Government Autonomy Bill, during the process of trying to amend the constitution, did not come to me as a surprise for two reasons: either the senate was bribed by the state governors, who on their own vehemently opposed to the bill or there is a monthly or quarterly share from the local government allocations accruable to the senate. For God’s sake, local government councils is one of the tiers of government and must be given full autonomy, it is

total wickedness for state governors to connive with senate to emasculate local government administration, perpetually. The reasons senate gave for not endorsing the bill are not tenable. They should come out openly and tell Nigerians the truth and nothing but the truth. We are tired of senate’s antics. They have hidden agenda – Richard Eweka

doubt if the state wants the grassroots to develop. There is political undertone – Adams Oyiboke In politics, opinion differs but interest matters. The failure of the senate to endorse the local government autonomy bill has political undertone. Many of the present senators are eyeing 2015 gubernatorial election in their various states. Passing

Naked Truth With CITIZEN EMMA KOLA OKHAKHU has shown itself to be more pro-elite than the lower house which has shown some inclination for the masses. Knowing fully well the elitist (political class) view on local government autonomy to be selfish and anti-masses, it was no surprise to see the senate vote along that line. After all you are fully aware of how the chairman of the then unified governors forum, Rotimi Amaechi

Arc. Mike Onolemenmen, Minister of Works

The endorsement of local government autonomy is the needed ingredient to move development at the grassroot. But our legislators will not approve such bills because most of them have hidden agenda. The governors and the senate will not approve of such as some of our senators have interest to become governors while the governors want to be in total control of the resources and revenue that comes to the state. If it remains like this, you will not blame local government chairmen for not developing the grassroots for they don’t have the finances to do as things should be done.Ensuring that the local government autonomy bill is approved will create room for grassroot development. But I

the local government autonomy bill would be tantamount to reducing the state financial control over local government and ultimately reduce the looting capacity. Secondly some governors in the states and their DeputyGovernors is another factor. Where the Governor has completed his two terms, the Deputy’s interest to vie for the master’s position is very paramount. Thus, such interest put together has tremendous influence which is presently working against the success of the local government autonomy bill. Senators are self centred – Imuesi Godfrey Self centredness!!! The Senate in the fourth republic

sounded it clearly that his group was against local government autonomy, it was no surprise to see a senate which has always gone with the political class vote against local government autonomy, not only to please the political elites but because of their strategic position, they equally stand to benefit from the bounty available from joint account when they too become state governors. Failure to endorse is due to fear of embezzlement – Olugbemin Opeyemi Michael Although, I have always been a fan of local government autonomy, but with more information some reservations now exist. It is important for the local

government to have funds to carry out developmental projects, so that there will be more grounds for the chairmen to be held accountable. But I think the same fear of improper management of funds and embezzlement is one of the reasons, the passing has been stalled; as this might give opportunity for another embezzlement channel. Also, local government autonomy may increase intrastate quarrels, as it will provide avenues that look as if there are more than one captain in the ship with an autonomous local government you have a less powerful governor. Hence this might also be a reason for the failure in endorsement, we have a problem of the minister of state and governor, see the problem? Not to talk of an autonomous chairman and governor. However, I will suggest a controlled autonomy, but not full autonomy, for the sake of global peace and global tranquility. Winifred Osasobo Local government autonomy is self government, the right to rule a community. The bill has been delayed by the senate and did not see the light of the day due to personal interests. The local government is the government of the grass root, which is closer to the people than the federal or state government. But, since the senate has failed to endorse it due to favoritism, nepotism and corruption undermining what will be of interest to the general public. Since they have failed to sign it into law, it simply means the senate has failed in its responsibility as an organ to serve and work for the masses.

“The local government is the government of the grass root, which is closer to the people than the federal or state government. VOX POP

Maltreatment Of Widows In Our Society THEY said he who finds a wife has found a good thing and obtain favour from the Lord. In the past and even in recent times, wives take full responsibilities of so many things in the house especially if the husband is not having a good job to take full responsibility of the family needs. Everybody around now see the woman as the head of the family which is not supposed to be, she makes sure that the children are in school and also provides food for the family which is the primary duty of the man. At the end of the day, the man dies and the woman is made to sit on the floor, eat with dirty hands, not taking her bath for days, shaving her hair, and some even go as far being made to drink the bath water from the corpse to prove their innocence, not knowing that the woman was the bread winner of the family. It is against this backdrop that SUNDAY OBSERVER interns; Blessing Salami, CLEMENTINA UKIRI and QUEEN OBIEKWUYE went to town to feel the pulse of Nigerians.

Excerpts Maltreatment of widows is uncalled for – Mr. Osasu To me, maltreatment of widows is uncalled for in the sense that widows are supposed to be taken care of like new born babies, widows are not supposed to go through pains from members of the husband’s family because the death of their husband is already painful to them most especially the young women among them. If the widow wants to shave her hair, it should be seen as culture and as a result of the love the woman has for him and not some satanic acts by members of the husband’s family. Drinking bath water of a dead spouse is not ideal – Madam Osaro A woman who lost her husband is not supposed to go through agony from the husband’s family, before she will know that she lost her husband. Shaving of the hair is part of cultures in Nigeria, but the one of

giving her the water used for bathing her husband to drink is not ideal, I see that as a demonic act. Widows need to be comforted – Mrs. Grace Ojo Widows are supposed to be taken care of and not be treated like some abandoned projects or thrown away like waste. In some cultures in Nigeria shaving of the hair or sitting and eating with the left hand is welcome. The woman should first of all know that this is part of the husband’s culture before going into the marriage. But the aspect of getting married to or sleeping with her by the younger or older brother in the family is not nice. The woman at that point in time needs to be comforted and not being made to go through some rubbish acts by the husband’s family. It is inhuman and should be abolished -Harriet Okoyomoh Maltreatment of widows is inhuman, it should be stopped. I

don’t see the point in maltreating the deceased’s wife simply because some mindless people think she had a hand in her husband’s death. If indeed, a widow knows something about the death of her husband, she should be left to face God’s wrath. That is what I think.

It is high time we discarded such cultures –Anthony Aibangbee The maltreatment of widows by some Nigerian culture or traditions is so worrisome and pitiable, but it is high time these cultures are discarded as they have out grown their relevance and usefulness. They are barbaric and inhuman hence they must not be encouraged by any person or tribe. Widows in our today society are supposed to be catered for by family members, the government and the society at large. These barbaric culture in my opinion, should give way to a more humane and acceptable culture which will recognise the pains of losing a dear husband and making provisions to alleviate the pains and close the vacuum caused by the loss, for this is what the widow deserves.

Woman Sues Husband For Alleged Criminal Intimidation

A woman, Charity Eze, 29, of Aso Pada in Mararaba, Nasarawa State has sued her husband, Titus, 38, over alleged criminal intimidation and defamation of character. Eze, in her suit at a Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Mararaba accused her husband of intimidation and telling people that she sleeps around

with different men. She told the court that on August 29, at about 9 a.m., while she was inside the house, her husband locked her in and went away to an unknown

destination. Some hours later, she said, she called for help from her neighbours to help her break the padlock, because she wanted to ease her self.

“On his return later in the evening, he started intimidating me, saying that I do not stay at home and that I sleep around with men,” she said.

In his defence, Titus told the court: “any time I come back from work, she is not always at home. “She always claims to be having one programme or the other in church. “Some times she even sleeps

there; what type of church is that? From Monday to Sunday, church! Church!” he stressed. He also told the court, that he had told his in-laws about the wife’s behaviour, but they appeared not to take interest in making her change her character. The presiding judge, Mr Albert Maga, adjourned the case to September 5, for hearing.

Internet Group Decries Negative Influence Of Social Media On Children

MR. Bayo Banjo, the President, Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), has decried the negative influence of the social media on children. Banjo told reporters in Lagos that negative use of the media could lead to higher wave of cybercrime among children. He said that some websites were still publishing implicit contents that could corrupt children. The NIG chief advised parents and schools to exercise requisite control on the use of social media by children. “In the school setting, we now have ICT centre with cyber café, hence schools and parents should also beware of the disadvantages of these facilities. “That is why schools should have teachers who will be in charge of this facility to guide and monitor what the students are doing. “This is because there are certain pages and websites they should not be allowed to visit,” Banjo said. He also called for caution in the use of other ICT tools to enhance learning. Banjo advised children to emulate their counterparts in developed countries who were making positive contributions

to their society through the use of the social media. “I am imploring the children to emulate their counterparts in advanced countries like Japan, Germany and the U.S. who are

YOBE has consistently allocated 26 per cent of its annual budget to the development of the education sector, Governor Ibrahim Geidam has said. Geidam stated this at the 2013 Exams Ethics Awards for best practices recently in Abuja. The governor, who was represented at the occasion by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Mohammed Lami , said allocation was in compliance with the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)’s benchmark on resource allocation to education. “Perhaps the decision of the Exam Ethics to consider Yobe for this award may not be unconnected with our untiring efforts, determination and total commitment to joining hands with all stakeholders to stamp out examination malpractices and improve the standard of

education in Yobe. “I would like to assure this gathering that this Award will no doubt inspire us to strive harder and continue in our effort to fight examination malpractice in all its ramifications in Yobe State,’’ he said of the award. Geidam called for speedy revamp of the education sector if any meaningful development was to be achieved. Represented by Malam Farouk Sambo the Commissioner for Education, Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State urged states in the north to declare an emergency in the education sector. Kwankwaso said education developed in the past because examination malpractice was virtually non-existent. He called on all stakeholders to rise up to the fight against malpractice to enable Nigeria take its place as a great force to reckon with.

“It is a fight for all of us, and it is a fight that must be won,’’ he added. The Chairman of Exam Ethics Marshals, Chief Ike Onyechere, said serious deficit of ethical values such as systemic academic dishonesty and examination malpractices posed serious challenges to the education system in Africa. “The result is the breeding of leaders and citizens weaned on diets of fraudulent education. “The result is professionally unethical and incompetent workforce, including doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers, accountants, business managers, public servants and teachers,’’ Onyechere stated. According to him, the consequences are always fatal as lives are being wasted daily as a result of medical errors, collapsed buildings, miscarriage of justice, as well as failed governments. The NDIC boss highlighted some of the major achievements of the corporation, which he said were recorded in the face of daunting challenges in the nation’s financial market. He recalled how the corporation paid cumulative insured deposits of N6.8 billion to a total of 528,212 insured depositors of liquidated banks as at December 31, 2012. Ibrahim also said the corporation had declared liquidation dividends and paid N1.1 billion to general creditors of eight banks-in-liquidation and erstwhile shareholders of three banks-in-liquidation. On banks-customer relationship, Ibrahim said the NDIC was working on measures to address the rampant cases of customer dissatisfaction with banks’ operations. “While the banks have taken some steps in addressing the problems, the NDIC has equally introduced other measures to combat such infractions by establishing a help desk.’’ Ibrahim was represented by the Acting Zonal Controller of the NDIC, Port Harcourt Office, Mr Samuel Dauda.

Your Children And Money P A R E N T S ’ dexterity with finances can be a guide for their children in handling money in future. We often hear the old saying “save for the rainy day”. Most families are often intimidated by issues of money management, not knowing if buying a big car or designer clothes is of a higher priority than putting away money for a house, the children’s education or dining out are more important than a comprehensive life insurance policy. If this is the way you manage money, then you may have taken a vow to be poor and your children are watching, for they learn by example. Some families struggle financially buying products with little resale value, no saving plans, living day to day in financial shambles. Some try to impress other families by buying flashy cars, clothes, living in expensive apartments, thereby subjecting their children to a life of proverty defined not by how much money the family earns but by how little the parents save and invest. For most parents, it’s simply a matter of having never been taught good money management skills themselves. Children’s attitude to money are a

It is better to show the children the monthly household bills and let them know how much the family can save by reducing waste on items such as expensive gadgets etc. If you as a parent saves, support your children to open a savings account and teach them to shift their desires from begging to purchase a product that is “can you give me? Or “I want this and that” to “how may I earn ….”? Thus, supporting them in earning as opposed to believing that you are a human ATM. No parent would let their children go across the street without first teaching them to look both ways, that is why parents should teach them the real cost of borrowed money etc. It is important that parents protect their children from bad credit. Encourage children to establish a healthy marriage with money, teach them to become good citizens by being productive, educated and financially responsible adults.

HAVING a relationship that is 100% prefect is almost an impossible mission because you tend to argue, disagree to agree and in some relationships, violence comes in where you find either of the partners beating, threatening or abusive. If a relationship becomes abusive the abused partner will at one point in time stray, cheat to find comfort somewhere else. Threats, beating or other forms of punishments are not the right way to control someone, and even at that, you can not completely control your partner. Men are usually guilty of this, wanting to have total control over their woman but at the same time, let it be known to you (men) that there are some good nice men waiting to save that woman you are putting through distress from you. And this is why the woman will definitely stray if you continually abuse her. Partners in abusive relationship cheat to help boost their confidence. They want to feel that they are still desirable to others and any slight attention from other people will trigger their desire, especially when they don’t get it from their partners. It can sometime be about the sex maybe just the affection, attention and care. Having a partner that can’t satisfy the sexual urge of his/her partner regardless of whether you are married or not, cheating will happen, depending on how bad the situation is and how much your partner loves you. But if there is a case of not able to deliver what your partner needs, be ready to accommodate

cheating or seek help before it happens. Cheating will mostly occur when an opportunity of business/ job trips, spending long hours in the office with an opposite sex becomes frequent or a permanent duty.

Despite the working environment or situation spending more time at work with a particular opposite sex worker than your partner poses dangerous opportunity for cheating, consciously or

unconsciously because you relate more hours with each than your spouse. Another reason for cheating which we highlighted in a previous article is when the relationship goes sour, we said this tends

The moment they are aware of being cheated on, the first thought is that of revenge, thinking that they can do the same or have been given an opportunity to do same. So, whenever it comes, be sure they are tempted to grab the opportunity. The way to prevent

partners cheating is knowing or becoming aware of the above mentioned and not become a victim is to resolve, straighten any problem in your relationship through dialogue and prayers. Know that cheating is surely not the best, only way or a healthy way to solve problems in your relationship.

governor of the state whose tenure of office expires in February 2014. As a build up to the all important civic duty on the part of the people of Anambra State, the various registered political parties interested in fielding candidate for the election had stepped up their activities in a bid select their candidates for the poll. So far, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) which is the party in government has organised its primary election with Mr. Williams Obiano emerging winner in an exercise which though rancor-free amongst its contestants was fraught with protestations from interest group over allegations of Governor Obi’s over bearing influence which saw his choiced candidate among the lots emerging as the party’s candidate. There were complaints of the non display of the party delegates list before voting thereby denying party faithfuls the opportunity to scrutinize the delegation list for possible impurities. But in the final analysis Uche Ekwelife who came second in the primaries conceded victory to the governor’s man. Not many close followers of Anambra

sundry, that of the Peoples Democratic Party conducted for the same purpose of electing a candidate to fly the party’s flag in the November 16, governorship election ended up producing two candidates. The emergence of mrsses Tony Nwoye and Andy Uba from two parallel primaries in Awka the capital of Anambra State has set the PDP’s preparation towards the poll on the edge. Although the National Working Committee of the PDP has denounced Senator Andy Uba describing his purported claims to the Anambra PDP gubernatorial ticket as a ruse and an anti party activity requiring serious disciplinary action against him and his acolytes, watchers of the political developments in Anambra State since 2003 are not in anyway surprise at the resort to short cuts by the Uba political dynasty to achieving their political objectives. The memories of the July 10, 2003 abduction of the then Anambra Governor Chris Ngige by a political gang under the headship of Mr. Chris Uba a.k.a (Eselu) who had attempted to cause Nigerians to believe that

Governor Ngige had resigned his position which he had barely held for one month and two weeks are still very fresh. Chris Uba following from the example of Baba Iyabo who held sway in the nation’s helms of affair at that time by simply releasing a preendorsed letter of resignation bearing the signatories of his cabinet ministers who have fallen out of favour had thought the same could work for him against Ngige who it was learnt was made to sign a bond consigning the resources of the state to the pulse of the Ubas who reportedly provided the financial war chest Ngige relied upon to win the 2003 guber polls. It is needless recounting the reign of impunity and violence unleashed upon the state by elements loyal to the Ubas hegemony which led to the destruction of public infrastructure in Awka and Onitsha with relevant security agencies looking the other way. Although Senator Andy Uba had then remained at the background, but there were allegations that the senior Uba who was Special Adviser to

President Obasanjo on Domestic Affairs was at the core of the happenings in the commercial nerve centre of the South Eastern Nigeria. Senator Uba who is at the centre of the current crisis in Anambra PDP is in a desperate bid to return to the office of governor which he was forced to vacate after spending about fifteen days in office as governor in 2007 following the Enugu appeal court judgement on when the four term of office of Governor Obi commenced. The return of Peter Obi to office had sent a death knel to his long drawn ambition to rule over the state when he failed to secure the party’s ticket for the 2010 governorship election which he lost to former CBN Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo. Sen Uba in his frustration dumped the PDP for Labour Party under which platform he contested and lost again to Mr. Peter Obi.

He returned to the PDP in 2011 to contest the Anambra South Senatorial District election. This political adventure was not without controversy as he went into the contest as a parallel PDP candidate as both himself and Nicholas Ukachukwu laid claims to the party’s ticket. The PDP went into that election with two candidate uncertain who the authentic candidate was between the two. The party enjoyed the advantage of the two candidates swaying votes to the party. The 2010 Electoral Act conferred the right to contest elective position on the political party thereby creating an opportunity for the winning party of any electoral seat to resolve issues of parallel candidates long after an election. This enabled Sen. Uba to become Senator after a tortuous legal battle to resolve the electoral impasse. Andy Uba a beneficiary of this skued electoral

Winning Anambra would be a tall order for the umbrella party following the alleged entrance into the race by the Ubiquitous Chris Ngige, former governor of the state and the senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly. Ngige who is riding on the plank of his populist programmes and policies while he held sway as governor between May 2003 and February 2006 it was learnt would be flying the All Progressive Congress (APC) flag in the election. Ngige who attempted a return to the Awka seat of power in 2010 when he contested under the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria had come second in the keenly contested poll with the incumbent beating him with a narrow margin while Prof. Soludo of the PDP came third. The party had gone ahead to declare as impostors Chris Uba, Ejike Oguebego and the State PDP Women Leader Mrs. Tonia Nwankwo and others who paraded themselves as working for the PDP and called on the IGP to investigate them. The PDP hierarchy it was learnt was pained that the Ubas and their collaborators could offer themselves as spoilers of the party’s plans to go into the November election as a united family in order to make victory as sure bet. At the time of writing this piece it was not certain why Andy Uba who had faithfully followed the processes leading to the primaries decided to go his separate way on the day of the primaries as neither himself nor his brother Chris had make statements relating to

This is so because the party does not belong to any individual neither its aspirations and objectives which are primarily to contest and win elections in every political contest.

Ali Baba Gives Women Tips On How that makes a man make up THE comedian took to To Retain Men his mind that it is you or his Facebook page Thursday to advise women on how to get a man and retain him forever. Read his recipe: “Sometime back, in March, I was advising a babe on how to make a man stay. Some comments posted in reply to my status were that men are only controlled by their third legs, money, yansh, boobs, beauty and ego. I tried to highlight a very serious point that babes were missing. “And that is, everyman wants better. We do not want to feel the one we let go was better. Not too long ago, I read some wild and wide criticism that greeted what Stella Damasus wrote about keeping a man. To some, wrong as they were, Stella had no business telling anyone how to keep a man. I believe she does. I actually think she knows more than she revealed. “Back to Stella DAMASUs’ write up. We are not all perfect. That said, when a Musician writes a love song, do you stop listening to the love song or letting the lyrics connect to your relationship because the singer has divorced 8 times or has not been able to hold a relationship longer than 3 months? I don’t think so. I think STELLA did well. If you like go call police. “Back to the HASHTAG I talked about earlier,

#WhatMadeYourGuyLeaveYou.Many ladies missed the point as they always often do. They were talking about how men are polygamous in nature, Cheats, irresponsible, not ready for commitment, gigolos, lack ambition, lack self control, think with their third legs… BLA BLA BLA. “I need to mention at this time, that I was at that time preparing to talk to young ladies who were looking to settle down and finding the right guy. And to tell you the truth, a lot of the ladies missed the whole point by a mile or 2. They need to read STELLA DAMASUS’ piece. “It’s easy for a lady to say, a guy was not serious that’s why the relationship broke up. Or to say, he used her and dumped her for another lady. Fine. That is what they think made the guy leave. But to be honest, was that all there was to it? “I would like you to know that, that is not entirely the truth. A guy would always weigh his options. He would want to know if he is getting the best. Or if he can see the best coming soon. ABEG OOO ”Before a lot of ladies eat me raw, let me explain. I do agree that it’s a two way street, but I can only speak for the WAY I HAVE BEEN ON. I AM AS STRAIGHT AS

THEY COME. I KNOW AND HAVE KNOWN ONLY WOMEN. Have you as a babe listed some CORE 10 things that you think you have that will make a guy not want to leave you? Do you also have some other unique things that a guy will not get anywhere else? Ok, lets agree he likes your breast, your bum bum and your soft body. What has any of those got to do with respect, the tone with which you talk to him, showing you are happy to be the one he chose, supporting his dreams… Does he like blowjobs? Do you give him same? Does he like talking? Do you listen? Some girls are funny, they will admit to knowing that the other girl bests them in several departments, yet still say, they don’t know why he moved on to her. Really? “There several things

otherwise. DONT get it twisted… If he finds out that someone has 15 CORE things that you have only 3 of and even the 3 are sometimes canceled out by the bad things like nagging, pride, greed…that have formed your character. Your own don set. You are sitting there comparing yourself to someone who has 13 things, more than you and is willing to tolerate his weaknesses and learn more. Yet you are quick to say, you don’t know what he sees in “that girl”. Hey girlfriend, your beauty stands nowhere near the towering personality and good heart “that girl” has. Better recognize. “I know I have stepped on that last nerve you have been tolerating me with. OYA delete me. I even need space to add people who tolerate and think like I do. “I rest my case.”

Birthday Message From Mercy Johnson Okojie “TODAY, I thought of many things I would love to have as birthday gifts and the many dreams I am still pursuing. In all of this I’m not losing sight of the fact that if not for God I might have ended up on the street like the many kids and young adults begging for food and some prostituting to make ends meet. If we know the circumstances that force some of these people on the street, we would spare a thought for them. I am where I am today purely by the grace of God and the grace of people who believed in me from the word go. “Recently, I was at the Boys Reform Home, Oregun, Lagos, the discussion I had with the principal Mr. Kotun and much later with the Special Adviser in charge of all remand homes in Lagos set me thinking about the boys and girls on the street. They have dreams too. Can they fulfill those dreams on the street? The answer will likely be no; because I won’t be where I am

today if I ended up on the street. “For this reason, Mercy Johnson Foundation will be doing a lot to get kids off the street. We are not asking people for money or donation, I will do all I can with the resources God has given me, and with the support of my husband to help get these kids off the street and set them on the path where they can begin to pursue their dreams. I want to plead with people, fans, friends and colleagues to spare a thought for the children on the street. We can begin by educating people around us, parents, the children and people in charge of children (Oga-house help relationship, teacherstudent relationship, and others) on the need to treat every child like the future of Nigeria depends on it. And truth be told, our future will not be all that enjoyable if we let the scourge of ‘streetchildren’ fester. By then, the rich will begin to cry. I learnt Lagos State Government has 11

homes where most children picked from the streets are kept, reformed and reunited with their families after counseling. “That is an initiative Mercy Johnson Foundation will be supporting and beyond that we will be going to different states to help spread the message-Get kids off the street, save the future. From tomorrow, I will begin to replay some of the lessons I learnt at the boys’ reform home and we all can contribute to getting the kids off the street. “I am grateful to everyone that has sent in a birthday message, tweet and gifts. Thank you and God bless you.”

How To Stay Cool Under Pressure MOST of us experience some level of stress in life. How we handle stressful situations can make the difference between being assertive versus reactive and poised versus agitated. When under pressure, the most important thing to keep in mind is to keep your cool. Here are some quick tips. * If you feel angry and upset with someone, before you say anything you might later regret, take a deep breath and count slowly to ten. In most circumstances, by the time you reach ten, you would have figured out a better way of communicating the issue, so that you can reduce instead of escalate the problem. If you are still

upset after counting to ten, take a time out if possible and revisit the issue after you calm down. * If you feel nervous and anxious, put cold water on your face, which triggers the mammalian diving reflex and immediately slows the heart rate between ten to twenty-five percent. It is also helpful to get fresh air and take deep breaths from the diaphragm. Avoid caffeinated beverages which can stimulate your

For example, if you are having trouble deciding between staying at your current job or leaving, put each choice on a piece of paper with a line down the middle. With each option, list all the pros and cons on either side of the line, if you like you can score on a scale of 1 to 5 each pro and con item on the lists to weigh their relative importance. As you do so, the most logical decision will often emerge. However, if you still

ACCORDING to wikipedia, folktale is a story, passed down verbally from generation to generation. The Shepherd’s Mistake

E

ARLY every morning, a shepherd took his flock of sheep out in the fields to graze. He would sit by, watching, as the sheep lazily munched on fresh grass. After they had eaten, he would round them up and walk back home. Sometimes while watching his flock, he would curl up in a quiet corner and go off to sleep. One day, the shepherd caught a wolf which had strayed into the field, eyeing his sheep. However, it was some distance away and it made no effort to come nearer. The shepherd at first stood on guard against the wolf, as one would do against an enemy, and kept a strict watch over its movements. But the wolf did not do anything. When the shepherd herded the sheep and headed home with his flock, the wolf quietly followed them at a distance. This continued for a while. The shepherd would find the wolf (1) I am something, people hate me but always clap for me what am I? Mosquito (2) There are three friends, whenever they move around they cannot touch one another? RELIGION

THERE is a class of Christians who are selfcomplacent. They possess flattery feeling that if they had an opportunity or were in a more favorable circumstance, they would do a great and good work, but they are waiting for the opportunity. They have the love for doing well: yet at the same time they are doing nothing. They despise the small pittance of the niggard to the poor, they dive themselves up to stinginess and selfishness, which account for their niggardly acts and abuse of talents and means committed to them to bless others. There are those who are spiritually inactive, unwilling to win souls for God but waiting for opportunity that may not come. Such people are deceiving themselves. The mere possession of qualities which are not used, only increase their responsibility; and if they keep their Master’s talents unimproved or hoarded, their condition is no better than that of their neighbours for whose souls they feel such contempt. To them, it will be said, “Ye know your Master’s will, yet did it not.” Because many people could not lift the burden they should lift or do the work they should do, the work is getting too great for the few who engage in it. The few people have so much to do that they over task their strength and are fast wearing out, but they should not be sad. The joy of the Lord is your strength Reject every spirit of sadness in your life in Jesus name (Neh 8: 10-11) Many people, who profess to know the truth, do not know why they believe the truth. They see that others believe it and they take it for granted that it is the truth. They can give no intelligent reason why they believe. Others are not enlightened or edified by their experience or knowledge which was their privilege to obtain. Strength and stability are given to those who profess truth. The prophecies in the Bible have been fulfilled in the lives of people who are seeking to purify their souls by obeying the truth. If the five virgins had obeyed the truth, they would not have been found outside when

the bridegroom came and locked the door. A farmer goes to the farm to harvest his ripe fruits early so that they may not get spoilt if it is too late. Even if the whole fruits are spoiled, he will at least show his family members what they ought to have found if they had not been too late. You shall know the truth and it will set you free. Everything on earth belongs to God. As a child of God, it is your privilege to gather in the ripe harvest. If you know the truth, you will find the ripe harvest, if you don’t know the truth; you will not find the ripe harvest even when it is close enough. This is why you find some Christians wearing themselves out by searching at a distance without success, something that they could get nearby. What they are looking for in SOKOTO will be inside their “SHOKOTO”. A person who knows the truth will take care of the little he has in hand and expect to get more from his Supplier. If a man is having a job but the pay is little and he wants another job with bigger pay, he will not leave the job he is doing until he gets another bigger one. “There is an adage in my hometown (Igarra) which translated in English says that: It is from the. top of a palm tree bearing ripe fruits that the man will see another palmtree bearing ripe fruits”. Before a man can make progress in life, he must be prepared to make good use of the available opportunity before him and trust that the same God who made the way will also open another way for him. The day is already far spent, soon the night will come, in which we can do nothing. You have but a little time here on earth, you better work while you can. Some people waste the day moving up and down and accomplish nothing. Others sit down to rest doing nothing and complain that life is difficult. Little wonder that such people lack success. Your success or failure depends upon the way you take hold of your work.

The Lord has given everybody different talents and He expects each person to find them. But some people do not have earnest determination to find their talent. By finding your talent and working in the right way, you will be

In those days, even when there is only one person in the church, the Pastor will preach powerful message, as though there were 1000 people. The following day, the number will increase to 100 people and from there the church will not hold the crowds. But today, when a Pastor finds that the church is not filled with people, he will not give a powerful message because he will look at the offerings and seed faith he will collect from the people. When there is crowd, there will be much offerings to collect and the Pastor’s message will be very powerful. But when the people are few, the Pastor will not deliver the message. TECHNOLOGY FOR a second, let us close our eyes and imagine a world of serenity and total darkness. A world where we don’t see beyond our immediate confinement, where what we see are only the people in our neighbourhood and geographic locations. Technology As A Messiah By ONOJETA EJIROGHENE

without technology, and how it would have been, it is obvious that the world would have been one of a thatched

Should we be saying thank you to people who made life so easy? We get information at a glance at our phones now, internet and automobiles. The world without these technological devices would have put the world in total boredom. Technology has taken our culture to another realm of

the line of argument here. The poem says: “Don’t preserve my custom as some fine curios”. Did the late Osadebay want to live his life without the internet, mobile phones and automobiles (vehicles) and see the difference between technology and culture? Yes when he wrote that poem there was no hint of revolution of technology, on this he could be excused. I am not against cultural beliefs (customs and tradition). What I am saying is that we should see technology as a messiah that

brought light into this dark world. Every of our traditional leader have conformed their traditional system to technological devices such as using the computer to keep records of their kingdoms. Most of them are on facebook, twitter, etc. They send e-mails. They live in technological installed homes. What I am trying to correct is the impression that the white people are exploiting us. They have done us “good” rather than bad in terms of technological

advancement. If they are bad as some want us to believe, then the question arises: why do we still travel despite report of racial abuse on Africans? They called us what they want and gave us what we want. I need to take a nap on the floor without a mattress. I am not going to use neither mobile phone nor P.C, nor am I going to take vehicle. I want to trek. What a life of stress and boredom it will be. Technology is a blessing to Africa than being retardation to our culture.

ISSUES

Youth Migration And Development NIGERIAN youths recently joined their counterpart worldwide in celebrating the 2013 World Youth Day with the theme theme of this year’s celebration tagged: “Youth Migration: moving development forward”. The nature of the theme got me thinking. Why youth migration of all things? But one of the answers was provided by UNESCO, which said that voting people are recognized as one of the most mobile social groups in the context of migration they form about 30% of international migrants! Yet very little is known about the livelihood struggles and opportunities that migration presents for young migrants and other youth who are affected by migration. We need to raise awareness about the situation of these young people and the role of youth led organizations in addressing migration issues!” With this in mind, this work time. one in three young women had received offers to go to Europe. The craze to travel abroad, irrespective of means of livelihood is something that should be looked into, and one of such illegitimate means is prostitution. Another migration anomaly that has plagued this nation is drug trafficking. In a report by the Economist, as at 2007, 44% of the West African Drug traffickers

the process that leads to giving back to the society and not just an end to means. Unarguably, when it comes to some form of knowledge and technical knowhow the nation is limited, and this is why migration is sometimes encouraged, for the youths to go out and learn the ropes, thereafter come back to impart their generation. Migration should not be out of desperation, it should be a

arrested in Europe were Nigerians. And this is evidenced in the amount of media reports of arrested Nigerians in the business of drug trafficking and this is a cause for concern, Nigeria is reported as a West African focal point for illegal drug trade on America list of major illicit drug transit or major illicit drug producing countries. Even with efforts from the law enforcement agencies, corruption as a national problem has also thwarted majority of the efforts made by this agencies. However, youth migration can move development forward if the mindset and focus based on the right attitudes. Travelling abroad is right and backed by international law; if it is legal and with good intentions. Articles 13 and 14 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights say: “Everyone has the right to freedom of movement within their own country and to travel from and to their country. It is important to note that some Nigerian youths who have migrated temporarily and even permanently, have distinguished themselves in their various discipline, bringing pride to the nation. Hence the youth should understand that migration most times should be part of

planned, deliberate, focused and legal action with the hope of properly developing oneself, your environment and your homeland. Often, people have been made to believe that things are rosy outside, but some that have travelled and managed to make it back, have carefully informed us that even in the beauty of a rose flower, it still has stems with thorns. Parents are an important factor in ensuring that youth migration, translates into moving development forward as regards the Nigerian situation. They should endeavour to train their children properly, giving them the right formal and non-formal education that they will require to distinguish themselves in the society, They should not apply too much pressure on their children, which will make them take wrong decisions. Sometimes, unhealthy comparism by parents make the children do things they are not supposed to do to please their parents. Talks like “see mama Bomboy pickin him dey abroad dey send things come.. wetin you dey do here?. It is all archaic and biased way of thinking, that the grass is always green on my neighbour ’s lawn. If parents should just teach us (youths) the right way to go,

we will be stars anywhere. The stars shine everywhere, irrespective of place hence the content of our character and diligence will always distinguish good youths (Children) where they are. Recently, the Nigerian Government appointed a US based Nigerian, Jessica Mathews an “Entrepreneurship Ambassador”. She invented an energy generating football and skipping rope. Energy gotten from the ball and

skipping rope could be used to generate electricity for light, charging on mobile phones and even fans amongst other things. While speaking during the presentation, Jessica Mathews said that the motivation for the electricity generating ball and skipping rope came when she attended her aunts wedding in Nigeria and there was sudden power outage and she thought of providing a solution to the problem. According to her, the product was already in use in America, would be affordable when mass-produced and introduced into the Nigerian market. The Edo State born inventor, who demonstrated with the soccer ball, said it could generate three hours of electricity after 30 minutes of play and could store power for 72 hours. This is just an example of how migration can affect the development of this nation. Excellence is founded in the person and not necessarily what the person does, but it always affects what the person does. Also, the government should put in more effort to make living condition very excellent for youths. When we sit down at the bosom of our parents and they tell us stories of how good the quality of living was at their time, we begin to ask questions maybe things can go back to that point. Sometimes, the high rate of unemployment,

mortality rates in peace time, insecurity, corruption, misappropriation of funds and lack of quality leadership, has made people seek for better and greener pastures outside. With all sense of sincerity, we have the available resources to be among the elite nations of the world. The fàct that we are still at this present level leaves the youth with little or no hope, who have been societally trained that the game is the survival of the fittest. Hence, some have even created shortcuts to always remain among the fittest that will survive, In view of this, one of the only ways to curb illegal migration is making the citizens of this nation happy again. The government should put in place the relevant machineries to increase the comfort of her citizens. They should make provision for good healthcare, education, employment, level playing field for private investors and quality leadership display and I believe things will get better. To my fellow youths in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, we often complain that our fathers have failed us, but should we allow our children complain same of us? What efforts are we making to make sure this nation does not remain like this when we become old and our children become the youths? The environmental situation might not seem okay, but illegality is not a way of life that we want to imbibe. Illegal drug trade, human trafficking, prostitution, arms trade, smuggling etc are not the ways out of the situation. They are just ways that seem good now, but with huge consequences hanging on them. Let us think of the Nigeria we want, and be the Nigerian that will make it so. Migration should not be out of desperation, some of us have lost their lives in the deserts, trying to cross borders, and some have done very “SHAMEFUL” jobs just because they want to travel abroad, Let us strike to develop ourselves, even though it is unarguable that the present situation of this country might create challenges but cha1lenges are there to be surmounted. It is still youth migration and its impact on development. It is possible for this teeming population of youths in this nation to drive the development ship of this nation with all sincerity and focus. Let us arise and do our parts. Even as migration presently serves as a means to an end, let us make adequate use of legal migration opportunities to transition the fortunes of this nation positively. Be the best and all excellent ambassador of Nigeria, anywhere you go to and learn enough to come back and impact this nation excellently.

NBF To Hold ‘Eagle Bout’ In December THE Secretary of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Tunde Laguda, at the weekend said that the federation would organise boxing championships to expose boxers to new rules of the sport Laguda told newsmen in Lagos that the competition, tagged “Eagle Bout Championships’’, would also help to keep boxers in shape. The secretary also said that participants at the competition, scheduled to hold in December, would be acquainted with the Amateur International Boxing Association rules, now operational. He said that more states would feature in the Eagle Bout Championships, essentially meant for boxers in the senior category. Laguda told newsmen that dearth of competitions, due to lack of sponsorship, had negatively affected the sport in Nigeria. He said: “The inventory of the recently-concluded boxing event has revealed the technical gap. “Most boxers are yet to understand the new rules governing the sport. “Lack of sponsorship makes it difficult for championships to be held,” Laguda said. He also regretted lack of competitions made boxers and the coaches ‘rusty’. “It was very evident in the just-ended National Open Boxing Championships that our boxers have lost form and dexterity as a result of a lull in competitions.” Laguda gave the assurance that there would be no more gaps in organising boxing competitions.

Martino Rests Xavi, Sanchez For Valencia Trip

BARCELONA boss Gerardo Martino has continued his policy of resting some of his senior players by leaving Xavi and Alexis Sanchez out of the squad that travels to face Valencia on Sunday night. Both players have so far started all four of Martino’s competitive games in charge and the Argentine believes the time was right to give them a rest, particularly as they will both be involved on international duty next week. “Xavi and Alexis have played a lot and according to my criteria, it was time for them to rest for a game. “I explained to them that they were not going to travel to Valencia. Mayer ’s aggression paid dividends in the third set before Murray knuckled down in a blistering fourth set to close out the win in two hours and 41 minutes. “I was a bit frustrating at points in the match because I was doing quite a lot of the running,” Murray said. “I wasn’t getting much depth on my returns. I served a low percentage today. You don’t feel like you’re dictating the match. It can be frustrating, but I finished the match well. “I played well when I needed to. That’s a good sign. I want to keep improving as the tournament goes on. You don’t

want to play your best right at the beginning.” Murray’s first serve was poor. He landed a mere 57 per cent of his first deliveries but his renowned fitness and defensive capabilities kept Mayer at bay in an arena that descended into organised chaos at times. Spectators were late to their seats and called out between points on a court that has been home to numerous close struggles for Murray in recent years. “It’s a court I haven’t played my best tennis on, that’s for sure,” he said. “I’ve had some tough matches there in the past, and today was the same. “But I’m happy to play on any court. Liverpool took maximum points from their first two games, with 1-0 victories over Stoke City and Aston Villa, and will move five points clear of United if they beat them at Anfield. However, despite their impressive early form, Ferdinand believes the best the five-time European champions can hope for this season is a topfour finish and a place in the Champions League.

Pep Couldn’t Cope With Me At Barca - Ibrahimovic

FORMER Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic says that coach Pep Guardiola “could not cope with him” during his solitary season at the club. The Swedish star completed a hotly-anticipated 70 million Euro move to Camp Nou in 2009 but left a year later for AC Milan amid rumours of a bust-up with his boss. He has since voiced his dissatisfaction with Guardiola’s coaching and has now claimed that the Spaniard could not handle his “original” personality. “In my first days, I was told by Guardiola that Barcelona players do not drive fast cars; that they keep a low profile,” he told The Times. “He wanted me to think of myself as just an ordinary guy. But I am Zlatan: I like to be different, to be an original. Guardiola couldn’t cope with that. “Every time I walked into the coffee room, he walked out. When he went past me in the corridor, he looked at the floor. He is not a man. He can be the best coach in the world, but I don’t care. “One day, I exploded at him in the dressing room. Even then, he didn’t speak to me.” Ibrahimovic, now at Paris Saint-Germain, went on to slam Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta for their conformist attitudes. “Don’t get me wrong: I like Messi and Iniesta. What they can do with the ball is unbelievable,” he added. “But they are so sensible, so quiet. They did exactly what they were told and never complained about anything.”

Bayern Munich players celebrate under the winners arch with the UEFA Super Cup in Prague

Unlucky Mournho Unhappy With Super Cup Defeat To Bayern JOSE Mourinho has insisted he is ‘unlucky’ after ten-man Chelsea lost 5-4 on penalties to Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich in the UEFA Super Cup final in Prague. European champions Bayern needed a 121stminute equaliser from Spain’s Javi Martinez to take the game to penalties, after it finished 2-2 in extra time, as the Bavarians avenged their 2012 Champions League final defeat at the hands of Chelsea in Munich. When Chelsea replacement Romelu Lukaku missed the 10th spot-kick after the previous nine successful attempts, it meant Bayern finally lifted the Super Cup at the fourth attempt to leave Chelsea boss Mourinho disgruntled. “When Martinez scored the goal, I felt it was undeserved. The best team lost, but that is football, no

Milan Keen To Land at the weekend, bringing in a new creative player before Honda AC Milan are to make the transfer deadline has now one final bid to sign Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow after having sold KevinPrince Boateng to Schalke. The Rossoneri have already reached an agreement with the Japan international, whose contract expires in January and can then move to the San Siro on a free transfer. However, the Russian club have so far rejected Milan’s bids to bring the move forward. But with Schalke confirming the signing of Boateng on a four-year deal

Guardiola disagreed with Mourinho’s insistence that the best team lost in Prague. “I believe the best team won, we creating a huge amount of goal opportunities,” said the Bayern boss. “Chelsea have so much experience with the likes of (Petr) Cech, (Frank) Lampard, (John) Terry and (Ashley) Cole, they had their chances, but we deserved the win.” Both Guardiola and Mourinho played down their rivalry. “I have great respect for him as a coach and he knows that,” said Guardiola of Mourinho. “We have played many times against each other — some you win, some you lose, but he knows I respect him.”

SCOTT Sinclair has admitted to having an eye on a trip to Brazil next summer as one of the reasons behind his move to West Brom. Winger Sinclair joined the Baggies last week on a season-long loan to escape his miserable spell at Manchester City. Following a £6.2million move from Swansea last summer, Sinclair made just two starts and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League under former manager Roberto Mancini. In signing for Albion, Sinclair is poised to finally get the regular game time he craves, starting with Sunday’s clash at The Hawthorns against former club Swansea. And with the World Cup looming, former under21 international Sinclair has conceded he would love to be in Roy Hodgson’s England squad providing he can again make an impact on the domestic front. “It was another thing I thought of,” said Sinclair when asked as to whether he had considered his England future in joining West Brom. “The main thing is I was so frustrated at not playing and I just wanted to get out and play week in and week out and be happy. “The World Cup is coming up and the manager has been putting the likes of (Andros) Townsend and (Ross) Barkley in the team. “If they’re getting a chance, then I don’t see why I can’t if I’m playing well.”

become the Serie A side’s priority. Honda is at the top of Milan’s list, while Kaka is also an option after revealing he wants to leave Real Madrid, and one is likely to arrive before Monday. “Kaka is a very difficult deal and at the moment we’re negotiating with CSKA to try to get Honda straight away,” Milan’s vice-president Adriano Galliano told Gazzetta dello Sport. “It’s more likely to be Honda than Kaka, and signing one excludes signing the other.”

problem,” said the 50-yearold. Having returned for his second stint at Stamford Bridge in June after coaching Real Madrid, Mourinho slammed Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson for the 85thminute dismissal of Chelsea midfielder Ramires for a second yellow card. “There is a passion for football and if you are in love with the game, you don’t kill a final with a second yellow card like this,” said Mourinho. “For me, yes, (the player should not have been punished) because there were many other yellow cards during the match which the referee didn’t give.” But the self-appointed “special one” insisted he is no stranger to playing with ten men in major competitions and bemoaned his misfortune. “This is nothing new for me, the last time I was at Chelsea we played a Champions League semifinal two or three times against Barcelona with ten men,” moaned Mourinho. “I went to (coach) Inter Milan and played one hour of a Champions League semifinal with ten men against Barcelona. “I go to Real Madrid, I played again a Champions League semi-final with ten men, I come back to Chelsea and I play a Super Cup final with ten men. “You all should analyse the games and draw your conclusions — I am unlucky.” Having enjoyed his eighth win over Mourinho in their 16th duel on the sidelines, ex-Barcelona coach

Guardiola praised his predecessor Jupp Heynckes who steered Bayern to the treble of European, cup and league titles last season. “I want to thank Jupp Heynckes for the chance to play here in this final, it’s down to him that we are here,” said Guardiola. “It was a super, super, super effort to take the game to penalties, we are very happy, but one second changed everything,” added the Spaniard, after Bayern had 37 goal attempts compared to Chelsea’s 14. “For me, the team played unbelievably well, we had more than 30 chances and I have seen how important it was for them, they won everything last season and they want more. I am really happy for them.”

The 20-year-old midfielder signed a five-year deal with the big-spending Ligue 1 outfit this week after being dissuaded from a switch to Carlo Ancelotti’s side and he admits he is now eager to endear himself to the French public. “When it [a move to Madrid] was mentioned, the conditions for a transfer were not met. And afterwards, I spoke with some people who know football very well, and they told me it would be a risk for me [to move there],” he was quoted as saying by L’Equipe. “There was a risk I

Olorundare Signs For Turkish Club

LEADING scorer in the Nigeria league Dele Olorundare has signed a two-year loan deal with Turkish club Tavsanli Lintyispor. Contrary to the report in media that Olorundare signed a year’s loan deal with Tavsanli Lintyispor last week, MTNFootball.com can report

that the former Sunshine stars striker signed the deal for the Turkish team Friday evening after an agreement was reached. Olorundare, who netted 12 goals in the Nigeria league before his departure, also told MTNFootball immediately after the signing ceremony that it is a

happy moment for him to become an overseas-based player, which has been his dream since the beginning of his career. Nigeria league star of the week “Firstly, I will thank God for his mercy. It has not been easy, It has been my dream to play in Europe from the onset, I thank God it materialised today(Friday),” Olorundare told MTNFootball.com “I completed my medical Thursday evening and I signed the contract paper today (Friday) after we reached an agreement. I signed two-year loan deal, which could be made permanent. I am happy to be here and looking forward to meet the fans at the stadium.” Olorundare further said, “I have been assigned jersey number 28, same number I wore

at Sunshine Stars. “It is a lucky number for me. They offered me jersey number 11, but I opted for 28. I am looking forward to get into business, do well and score goals for my team.”

who.” He also confirmed to Goal that he was fully aware of midfielder Sunday Mba’s trip to France to join AC Bastia. He disagreed with reports that stated the midfielder went on trials at the club. “Sunday Mba is in France to team up with a top division side. He did not travel to undergo trials but to join the team as well as finalize the contractual terms involving his transfer to the club,” Keshi said. Nigeria needs at least a draw against Malawi to qualify for the final play off stage of the 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil.

THE loss of 11 players to the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test would not affect the Golden Eaglets’ preparations and performance later on at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Nduka Ugbade, an Assistant Coach, with the Golden Eaglets, gave the assurance on Friday in a telephone interview with newsmen in Lagos. Reports say that Nigeria as well as defending champions Mexico, Sweden and Iraq are in first round Group F of the competition. The competition is scheduled for Oct. 17 to Nov. 8 at the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The former defender told newsmen that the team lost 11 players during the MRI screening to determine the actual ages of the players being prepared for the competition. The coach said however that the development only called for more hardwork and determination on the part of the team’s technical crew. The Eaglets’ skipper at the maiden edition of the junior championship in 1985 at China, then as an under-16 event, however said the players were initially within the stipulated age. “They only grew over time. These same players that were excluded by the MRI were at the CAF U-17 championship in Morocco last April, having passed the test then. “But, as growing up players, development which is constant in human beings must have occurred and that is what happened in the case of these players,’’ he said. Ugbade said the Eaglets, after the MRI screening, were left with 11 players who had constantly played together. “So, what we have done now is to blend the 11 players with the new set of players recently invited to strengthen the team, and we have blended the new ones with the old set.

Bayelsa are top the table with 46 points, just one point ahead of Enyimba and Kano Pillars, who are in second and third places, respectively. Bayelsa goalkeeper Emmanuel Fabiyi told MTNFootball.com his team will beat Sharks to extend their marginal lead at the top. “It is a very important game for us, we are going to do our best to win this game so we could extend our stay at the top

of the table. We won’t take the game lightly,” stated Fabiyi, whose team shot to the summit after a goalless draw at Sunshine Stars on Thursday. Pellegrini Not Afraid To Drop Joe Hart

MANUEL Pellegrini has warned Joe Hart that reputations count for nothing and that he will not be afraid to drop the goalkeeper if he does not return to his top form soon. But the Chilean insisted it is best for Manchester City that the error-prone Englishman keeps his place for now and believes the club’s new goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor will help bring the best out of Hart. Hart was at fault when Fraizer Campbell scored Cardiff ’s second goal when Pellegrini’s side lost 3-2 on Sunday, just as

Too Late For Man Utd To Buy De Rossi ROMA coach Rudi Garcia says that the Serie A side will resist Manchester United’s interest in Daniele De Rossi. The Red Devils have made overtures to the Giallorossi about the midfielder, who is understood to be available at a price of 11.7 million Euro, but the Frenchman claims that a previously-agreed window to sell him has closed. “De Rossi is a Roma legend and wants to play for Roma,” Garcia told the press. “We said that, after a certain point in the summer, he’d no longer be for sale. “He is a man of his word. That date has passed and he will be with us for the entire season.” De Rossi’s current contract runs until the summer of 2017 - he is currently one of the Italian top flight’s highest earners, with a net salary of +6m a year. Roma have already sold Erik Lamela and Pablo Osvaldo to Premier League clubs Tottenham and Southampton this summer for fees worth up to +35m and +20m, respectively.

he made a mistake to allow James Morrison to net for Scotland against England 11 days earlier. And manager Pellegrini said: “I said from the beginning my teams never play with names, they play with performance. Joe knows perfectly he has to perform well in the next games. “For the moment Joe will continue being our goalkeeper but I spoke with him and he knows he must be quickly in the best shape again.” But while Pellegrini said he has an alternative in reserve goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, he is adamant this would be the wrong time to drop Hart, even though he was also in poor form last season. “We know Joe has a difficult moment but also those players need trust in those moments,” he added.

“I saw the whole of last season but that is the past and now we must see the present and the future and for this moment the best thing for the team is that Joe Hart continues.” Mancisidor has taken over from Massimo Battara as City’s goalkeeping coach and Pellegrini believes the Spaniard can help Hart fulfil his potential. He added: “Joe is working with another goalkeeper coach. I trust a lot in Xabier Mancisidor. He is a very good goalkeeper coach, I worked with him at Malaga and Real Madrid, and I am sure that Joe must improve on a lot of things during the whole year. “Joe is a very young goalkeeper, he arrived at the top in England maybe too young. He needs to improve a lot of things and Xabier will improve them.”

... Toure Stunner Sinks Hull

YAYA Toure scored another brilliant freekick to help Manchester City secure a 2-0 win over Hull City at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.Alvaro Negredo opened the scoring midway through the second half before Toure added a second late in the game as the Citizens registered their second league win of the season. The visitors should have taken the lead in the 6th minute when Sone Aluko broke the offside trap to find himself face-toface with Joe Hart, but the Nigerian fired his shot wide of the post. Three minutes later Edin Dzeko made a great run towards the near post to meet Jesus Navas’ corner, only for his header to be pushed wide by Allan McGregor. The Hull goalkeeper was back in action in the 13th minute, this time pulling off a great reflex save to tip Joleon

Lescott’s header over the crossbar. Two minutes later Steve Bruce’s men had another great chance to break the deadlock when Tom Huddlestone’s freekick was headed into the path of Robert Koren, who volleyed just wide from the edge of the box. Manuel Pellegrini brought on Alvaro Negredo in the place of Edin Dzeko at the break and the Spaniard should’ve opened

the scoring in the 47th minute when he got onto the end of David Silva’s pass, but he sent his header wide. However, the former Sevilla player made up for his error in the 65th minute when he drifted away from his marker at the far post to head home from Pablo Zabaleta’s cross. The Tigers tried to push for the equaliser but their best chance fell for substitute Steven Quinn, who fired a snapshot

Mourinho Says Rooney Pursuit Is Over

CHELSEA manager Jose Mourinho says he has abandoned his attempts to prise England striker Wayne Rooney from Premier League rivals Manchester United. Chelsea have had two bids for the 27-year-old rejected by United and after Monday’s 00 draw between the sides, Mourinho said he would only wait “48 hours” for Rooney to make a decision on his future. However, speaking after Chelsea’s penalty shootout defeat by Bayern Munich in the European Super Cup in Prague on Friday, Mourinho admitted that Rooney would not be arriving at Stamford Bridge. “For all parties, it’s finished,” he told Sky Sports. “One thing is to tell you through other people that you want, you want, you want very much, but at the end of the day... “I feel everyone has the right to show his life, his future, and I respect that.” Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o joined Chelsea on a one-year contract on Thursday and Mourinho said the former Barcelona and Inter Milan player would be his last new signing of the close season. “It’s the end. We have a good group,” said the Portuguese. “Samuel will give us another kind of qualities in attack. He is an experienced player in a

team that needs some experienced players.” Meanwhile, United manager David Moyes has challenged Rooney to put an unsettled close season behind him and focus on becoming an Old Trafford great. Rooney is 52 goals behind Bobby Charlton’s United scoring record of 249 and Moyes believes there is no reason why he cannot surpass that milestone. “I’m really keen on getting him focused and on the goal sheet,” said Moyes, whose side visit Liverpool on Sunday. “There is a situation with Wayne where he could go on to emulate some of the greats at United with the goals he can score. “I wouldn’t say the heights of immortal people, but those like Sir Bobby Charlton are on as high a pedestal as anybody can get. We’ve set it down for him — can you put yourself in this position?”

LASG Urges NPC To Obey Court Orders Ifelodun, Apapa, Lagos-Island,

Accreditation of voters at Offa North-North-West Ward, Lamodi polling booth, during the re-run of Local Government Election in Offa, Kwara yesterday

THE Lagos State Government has called on the National Population Commission (NPC) to conduct fresh census in 14 Local Government Areas in obedience to the orders of the National Census Tribunal. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, made the call at a news conference in Ikeja at the weekend. Ipaye said that in response to a petition filed by the government challenging the accuracy of the figures, the tribunal nullified the 2006 census figures in the affected areas in June 2013. He said the nullification was based on findings that the figures in the areas were marred with irregularities. The affected Local Government Areas are: Alimosho, Ojo, Ajeromi-

Cardinal Onaiyekan Advocates Community Based Dialogue To Address Insecurity THE Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has called for a community-based interreligious dialogue approach as part of measures to address insecurity and other vices in the country. Onaiyekan made the call in Abuja yesterday while addressing newsmen at a forum on promoting inter-religious dialogue, organised by the InterReligious Dialogue Office of the Abuja Catholic Archdiocese. He said the community-based approach as a means of addressing the nation’s persistent

inter-religious unrests could be more effective than the urbanbased, national dialogue amongst leaders of the various religions. “Dialogue at the community level will build confidence and trust amongst believers of different faith and in the long run reduce the tendency for religion-based violence,’’ the

cardinal said. He said administrators of all Catholic parishes in the country would be encouraged to initiate and sustain dialogue at the community level to help build peace at the basic level. “The Catholic Church will also encourage the building of inter-faith relationships amongst students in the country’s Catholic institutions as part of measures to foster peace in the society,’’ Onaiyekan said. He called on governments at

Prison Fellowship Nigeria Has Transformed Lives - Chaplain ACTIVITIES of Prison Fellowship Nigeria in the areas of evangelism and cares for inmates have brought about positive changes in the lives of inmates across the country. Pastor Peter Okere, the chaplain of the fellowship, Suleja chapter, stated this yesterday in Suleja, Niger, at a one-day Prison Ministers’ Conference entitled “The Chosen One’’. He said the fellowship’s decision to embark on prison outreach programmes was informed by its belief that prisoners deserved God’s love. “Although, prisoners might be rejected by the society, the fellowship holds the belief that through preaching, God will minister to them and make them useful. “God cares for them, after repentance, they become loved by God and when they are released from prison, they will be useful integral part of the society; this is our belief,’’

Okere said. He urged the public to have compassion for prisoners, insisting that experience had shown that repentant prisoners had been useful in the spread of the gospel and prevention of crimes. “God’s clarion call to you and I is in accordance with the revelation of his purpose to redeem and save humanity from the bondage of sin. “Souls are perishing and we should not relent in our effort in the rescue mission, especially in this prison ministry.’’ Mr. Anthony Macartan, a former prison inmate, said he got converted through members of the fellowship when he listened to the word of God and embraced godly living. “I was awaiting trial when I had contact with the Prison Fellowship; the members would visit, take care of our needs and give us the assurance

of God’s love even when we felt rejected by the society. “It was all these that made me to believe that there are hopes, especially by serving God and be consistent in godly living; so, I decided to fellowship with Deeper Life Bible Church,’’ he said.

all levels and proprietors of other private institutions in the country to encourage same as part of measures to build lasting peace in the country. Earlier in his presentation, Rev. Fr. Cornelius Omonukhua, the Director of Mission and Dialogue, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), said both the Biblical and Qur’anic teachings encouraged inter-faith dialogue. He dismissed insinuations in some quarters that a particular religion was against relations and dialogue with the faithful of other religions. “Faithful of both Islam and Christianity had in the past suffered severe losses which resulted from differences in beliefs,’’ Omonukhua said. He urged faithful of the two religions to remain steadfast in the teachings of their religions, asking them to forgive and forget whatever wrong might have arisen from previous confrontations.

“We need to be proactive in the pursuance of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence, even in the absence of conflict between Christians, Muslims and traditional worshippers in our country. “Dialogue is a panacea to healing broken hearts, broken relationships and ugly memories of religious intolerance,’’ Omonukhua said. On his part, Sheik Nura Khalid of the Apo Legislative Quarters Mosque stressed the need for leaders of religious congregations in the communities to work together. “Total peace and religious harmony will be better attained if there will be a synergy of ideas, efforts and resources from the basic level,’’ he said. The convener of the forum, Rev. Fr. Roland Nwakpuda, said the forum was put together to emphasise the need for continuous dialogue even in the absence of crisis.

Lagos Mainland, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Mushin, Badagry, Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu and Surulere. Ipaye said: “in the final analysis, the official national census results for the 14 old Local Government Councils (now 40 LGAs and LCDAs) in Lagos State have been nullified. “This vindicates the resolve of the government to base its physical and economic plans on a projected population of 17,553,924 in 2006 and over 21,000,000 currently. “We now expect that the National Population Commission will urgently announce plans for a recount as ordered by the tribunal,” he said. The commissioner said that the government had always believed that the 9,113,605 figure released by NPC as the population of Lagos state after the nationwide census was ‘far too low.

Commissioners Tells Cattle Farmers To Keep Animals Healthy

THE Ogun Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Maria Sokefun, has appealed to cattle farmers and dealers in the state to ensure that their animals are kept healthy at all times. Sokefun made the call at an interactive session with the cattle farmers and dealers at the Veterinary Hospital Complex in Abeokuta over the weekend. Represented by Mr Lanre Bisiriyu, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Sokefun said the consumption of unhealthy animals could be hazardous to health. She, therefore, enjoined them to ensure that their animals were subjected to regular medical check-up. In his remarks, the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Kamoru Mustapha, urged the livestock farmers to be in harmony with their grazing communities. The leader of the farmers, Mr Kamorudeen Lawal, urged the state government to establish a cattle market in the state.

IOM Country Analyst Commends Humanitarian MRS. Myriam Kung, agencies and the Response In Nigeria donor International Organisation for Nigeria Red Cross for Migration (IOM)’s Country Analyst for West Africa, has commended Nigeria’s response to humanitarian situations caused by flooding and insurgency. Kung gave the commendation when she visited the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the weekend in Abuja. “The presentations and statistics made available to me show a convincing response to

humanitarian situations in Nigeria,’’ she said. Kung said she was in the country to gather information on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) that would be relevant to Swiss asylum and removal proceedings. Kung said her office was interested in holding discussions on prevention, integration, re-integration strategies, measures and mechanism for IDPs with relevant authorities in Nigeria.

Receiving the IOM delegation, the DirectorGeneral of NEMA, Alhaji Mohammad Sani-Sidi, said Nigeria had cases of IDPs caused by insurgency in the North-East and flooding. He told the delegation that the agency was, however, responding to humanitarian situations in the affected areas through monitoring and support to IDPs. The director-general commended international

responding to humanitarian challenges in the country.
