This year at IMS Ibiza we’re going to see a 100% Ibizan b2b. What do you think about this choice and have you been preparing anything special for your set together?

Yes, we really feel like sharing this great moment. I think it’s a perfect partner for a b2b, we’ve done it several times and we’ve also made way for each other on many occasions, we get on well in the booth, inside and outside the island.

What is your relationship with IMS and what do you think about this important festival? I have been collaborating through the radio over the years. It was initially something so new and innovative, that many of us didn’t understand that a new phenomenon was coming about. This movement makes thousands of people travel to the island for this meeting of industry professionals, it’s a meeting that educates and opens your mind to create new projects, an important economic factor for the island nowadays, an engine generator of tourism out of season, an international meeting.

As for conference that is taking place at Hard Rock Hotel from 22nd to 24th May, what do you think about this edition’s topics?

They are very different and interesting topics that have to be known, dealt with, debated and applied. I think it’s good to talk about the theme of “Mental Health”, and it’s always very interesting to listen to the keynotes addressed by Pete Tong.

Define IMS in three words.

Knowledge, innovation, show.

What is there about Ibiza in your music?

T he very expression of feelings for our land turned into Balearic influences, of the sound of yesterday and today.

What are your goals achieved so far as DJs, the ones which have made you feel more proud?

At the moment I find myself where I couldn’t have imagined to be two years ago. I am living a dream, sharing a booth with artists I admire, with the most international ones of the scene. I feel very lucky.

Are you working on any new production or collaboration?

Yes, I am. I have recently completed an ep, in collaboration with Davina Moss, but which at the moment just the two of us are testing. We believe in it, and we would like to come out with an important label.

What’s the news this year?

I have enough, but I can’t tell anything for another few weeks. They are dreams that are coming true, experiences that I want to feel and enjoy with gratitude, respect and a lot of professionalism. I feel very prepared.

We are increasingly often trying to make people aware of very important issues. Mental health or drug addiction are some of the delicate issues that have lately been dealt with within the electronic music industry. What do you think about it?

It’s very important to talk about it, to look into it and deal with it. The most important thing is to identify it in time and get your life back on the right path. Nobody is exempt from falling into the disease, which can lead to other things... it’s very important to let people know and to know that there is always a way out. I want to take the opportunity to send out the message that you have to take care of yourself, you have to live, you have to learn to listen to your mind and heart, to connect with the earth, nature. Enjoy the good times of life and be careful when facing possible experiences.

Let’s talk about your record labels...

Illusion Music Records is my little baby. An unpretentious independent label, where to accommodate emerging artists that produce good music, with sense and feeling... and let them use this small platform to expose their ideas, and also, of course, some of mine.

Where can we see you this summer on the island?

At the moment there are 6 sessions scheduled in Ibiza during the season, but I can’t reveal any more info as the lineups are not public yet.

How do you see the future of Ibiza after all the changes of these recent years?

Uncertain, but it will regenerate, for good. It is part of a cycle where eventually the island will reemerge strong, wise and more appreciated.

This year at IMS Ibiza we’re going to see a 100% Ibizan b2b. What do you think about this choice and have you been preparing anything special for your set together?

I think it’s great and really original to have a 100% Ibizan b2b performance in Dalt Vila. I am very grateful. We were both born in Ibiza, it will be nice and we are preparing something super cool.

What is your relationship with IMS, and what do you think about this important festival?

I have a very close relationship with IMS. Its founders Danny Whittle and Mark Netto are the people behind my career and who trusted my talent. I still remember the first time that my manager Danny Whittle confirmed my performance at IMS 2014... He sent me the flyer by email and I went crazy in the studio... I was 24 years old! IMS has changed my life, I feel lucky and happy to be involved in such an impressive project. IMS is what makes electronic music and the industry behind it grow in a healthy and professional way.

As for conference that is taking place at Hard Rock Hotel from 22nd to 24th May, what do you think about this edition’s topics?

All the topics in all the editions are incredibly interesting. One that I really want to hear is the talk that will be given by Avicii’s father.

Define IMS in three words.

Future, music, professionals.

What is there about Ibiza in your music?

Everything! I make all my music here in Ibiza, in my studio, on the island where I was born. I go to the market, I swim in the sea, I walk around the town, I get inspired and make music. I really like to hang out around the island with my manager Danny and other friends on Wednesdays, I feel inspired when I walk through the countryside and the mountains, when I smell the real Ibiza!

What are your goals achieved so far as DJs, the ones which have made you feel more proud?

The truth is that incredible things have happened in my career; winning a DJ Award as the best DJ in Ibiza, being the first DJ from Ibiza to have played at Fabric London or ANTS Ushuaïa both in Ibiza and abroad... I think the Ibiza presence is at its maximum level right now, and that makes me happy and proud.

Are you working on any new production or collaboration? Any?

I’m working on 100s of them! I’m all day locked in the studio, we release about 6 albums a year, not counting remixes and compilations on some of the best labels. This year we’ve signed a remix of mine with Atlantic Records / Big Beat / Warner Music / New York for example, and I’m opening my own record label, Question Reality! The first production of QR will come out in two months, with an original Manu Gonzalez & Shaf Huse - Bring Back (Original Mix) and a remix by Hector Couto. I am very excited to open my own label after collaborating with the best ones in the field. I’m also working on a new single for Defected Records, and I have a release that will be come out in October on Paco Osuna’s label, Mindshake records.

What’s the news this year?

Besides being performing in this incredible IMS Grand Finale at Dalt Vila, we have confirmed dates in Amnesia, as the Opening and the Closing Party, as well as several dates at the Terrace. I will also be performing for the third year at the amazing HÏ Ibiza, at Blue Marlin Ibiza on some Sundays, at Heart Ibiza, Defected Records, Abode, I have many incredible shows for Ibiza 2019! I am also particularly thrilled about my new label “Question Reality”, which we are already doing events with. We had Steve Lawler and some special guests, and at the next event on 7th July in Tenerife we’ll have Hot Since 82 performing with me. Great things are going to happen with QR and I’m very excited about it! Another novelty is that I’m going to start playing without my cap! I’m joking!

We are increasingly often trying to make people aware of very important issues. Mental health or drug addiction are some of the delicate issues that have lately been dealt with within the electronic music industry. What do you think about it?

I think it’s great, it’s a very tough industry that sometimes harms people’s mental health or can even be lethal on the subject of drugs. I think it’s always good to talk about things and communicate. At IMS mental health talks are given to help understand that nobody is alone, that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. I consider myself an open person and I like listening to people and trying to help, just as I also like being listened to. We all feel bad sometimes, it’s normal... when it happens to me, I talk to my family or my friends and I feel better. It’s good to talk with people about your worries, so to be able to overcome them.

Let’s talk about your record labels...

My label Question Reality opens with 3 pioneers of this industry, Danny Whittle, Mark Netto and Mark Lawrence and an Ibizan dreamer, who has spent half of his life selling, making and playing records: Manu Gonzalez. The label will be released in two months, with an original mix of mine and a remix by Hector Couto. It will be for sale on all digital platforms published by Black Rock Publishing and it’s incredible. It has cost me a lot to convince myself to launch the label, but now it’s the right time. We are also doing incredible events, the next one will be on 7th July at Papagayo beach club with me and Hot Since 82. We also have some coming events in Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid!

Where can we see you this summer on the island?

At Amnesia Ibiza, Ushuaïa & Hï Ibiza, Blue Marlin, Heart Ibiza, Defected Records, Abode, and some exclusive events also in Benimussa Park.

How do you see the future of Ibiza after all the changes of these recent years?

I see it well, I consider myself a positive person with progressive ideas. I believe that Ibiza is in a time of change, we need these changes to continue feeling what we are: the best! Ibiza for life.
