How and where is Verdura Shoes started ? The adventure started in Australia, Byron Bay, year 1997. I’ve found myself barefoot, I saw an old abandoned tire and I’ve intuitivily started to make my first pair of sandals, completely self-taught. Friends and local people were super impressed by those strange creations, and they began to commissioning their pairs. Thanks to “Prima” my voyage into the world of shoemaking and the recycling of old materials begun. Another big meeting was the one with the fishing net: a chance on a sunny day, on the deserted beach. This is where the first model made with fishing nets comes from. And here we are with the Verdura Shoes, an eco-friendly, sustainable and completely handmade collection, produced with 100% natural materials. ¿Cómo y dónde comienza Verdura Shoes? La aventura empezó en Australia, Byron Bay, en el año 1997. Me encontré descalzo, vi un neumático viejo abandonado e intuitivamente empecé a hacer mi primer par de sandalias, completamente autodidacta. Los amigos y la gente local quedaron súper impresionados con esas extrañas creaciones y comenzaron a encargar a sus parejas. Gracias a “Prima” comenzó mi viaje por el mundo de la zapatería y el reciclaje de materiales non utilizado . Otro gran encuentro fue el de la red de pesca: una oportunidad en un día soleado, en la playa desierta. De aquí proviene el primer modelo realizado con redes de pesca. Y aquí estamos con los Zapatos Verdura, una colección ecológica, sostenible y completamente artesanal, producida con materiales 100% naturales.

You have a very peculiar style. Where do you get your artistic inspiration from? Life is my constant inspiration. The people I see, the places I visit, the situations I live everyday. And of course the music that is my costant travelling even when I’m stucked working in my lab. I love to look at the Aboriginal , African and Tribal world, as they’re very connected to mother nature and finding practical solutions in a very respectful and creative way. And then, of course, I have a very vivid imagination…

You decided to make sustainability and the safety of the environment your business. What are you currently involved to make this planet a better place? Mine it’s a sort of mission: to share good practices and to respect the environment throught my creations. Everything comes from the recycling and upcycling of old/unused materials. My goal is to create revolutionary shoes which contribute to a cleaner environment: I fight for seas, oceans and beaches cleared from waste, toxins, broken glass and abandoned fishing nets. I do so by recovering these materials and adopting a production line with less impact for the environment. I love the planet and the sea as well as I love beauty and aesthetics, which I seek in every single creation. Style, sustainability, research and handicraft,these are my inspiring principles that drive me forward to constantly improve my work. My awareness work continues with the collaboration of international non-profit organization like Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Oceanic Global, supporting their events by providing our products for charity auctions and our experience. Net-working is essential with these initiatives, both to recover materials and help spreading the word. Tienes un estilo muy peculiar. ¿De dónde sacas tu inspiración artística? La vida es mi inspiración constante. La gente que veo, los lugares que visito, las situaciones que vivo todos los días. Y, por supuesto, la música con la que siempre viajo, incluso cuando estoy atrapado trabajando en mi laboratorio. Me encanta mirar el mundo aborigen, africano y trinal, ya que están muy conectados con la madre natura y encuentran soluciones prácticas de una manera muy respetuosa y creativa. Y luego, por supuesto, tengo una imaginación muy vívida ...

Decidió hacer de la sustentabilidad y la seguridad del medio ambiente su negocio. ¿En qué estás involucrado actualmente para hacer de este planeta un lugar mejor? La mía es una especie de misión: compartir buenas prácticas y respetar el medio ambiente a través de mis creaciones. Todo proviene del reciclaje y reciclado de materiales viejos / sin usar. Mi objetivo es crear zapatos revolucionarios que contribuyan a un medio ambiente más limpio: lucho por mares, océanos y playas limpias de desechos, toxinas, vidrios rotos y redes de pesca abandonadas. Lo hago recuperando estos materiales y adoptando una línea de producción con menor impacto para el medio ambiente. Amo el planeta y el mar, así como amo la belleza y la estética, que busco en cada creación. Estilo, sostenibilidad, investigación y artesanía, estos son mis principios inspiradores que me impulsan a mejorar constantemente mi trabajo. Mi trabajo de sensibilización continúa con la colaboración de organizaciones internacionales sin fines de lucro como Sea Shepherd Conservation Society y Oceanic Global, apoyando sus eventos proporcionando nuestros productos para subastas benéfica.El trabajo en red es fundamental en estas iniciativas, tanto para recuperar materiales como para ayudar a difundir el mensaje.
