Do You Have the

by Sarah Warburton
ow did famous R&B Musician Archie Bell get a gig judging the best chili in Fort Bend? He says, “I was driving around San Antonio and my car starting acting up. I called my lawyer, David o t Showalter, and had him set up a meeting for me at Classic Chevrolet. go ted nses a Over the years I’ve dealt with a lot of people and plenty of dealerships, n y do ll expe e n but there’s no other organization like Classic Chevy. After I met the o y! .A he m Police ic Chev t f owner, Don Kerstetter, he made me a deal I just couldn’t refuse on %o lass and 100 ugar L d by C a Chevy Cruze...and that was just the beginning. He told me about e S ver the o the events they had lined up at Classic Chevy, like signings with J. c are J. Watt. Don’t get me started on the Texans...if they tighten up I think next year could be our year! I told Don I’d love to get involved with some of their events. Then he really got me interested in the Chili Cookoff! I’ve been doing this kind of thing for years even when I was performing as Archie Bell and the Drells...and I’m excited to get involved for the Sugar Land Police Department. They asked me to be a judge..and who’s going to say no to chili?”” Officer Marty Morales says, “We’re very thankful to Don and Classic Chevrolet for hosting this Whose Chili is successful event. Last year 1500 people attended...and we expect even more this year! With the the BES ? money raised in 2012 we were able to provide scholarships for students from Dulles, Kempner, Clement, and Fort Bend Baptist High schools. Community involvement is a huge part of the Sugar Land Police Department...and it’s a huge part of the culture at Classic Chevy, too!” Ready to prove you’ve got the best chili in Fort Bend? Don says, “Bring your Hot, Sweet, or Non-Traditional (won by the Curry Cup last year) to our third annual Chili Cook-Off on April 11, 2013 for a chance to win cash, trophies, and serious bragging rights. Teams need to submit the $50 entry fee and to register in advance by calling the Classic Chevy at 281-969-4132 or emailing Patty Werner pwerner@classicchevysugarland.com. Then you and your team can bring the heat or the sweet…three gallons of your best chili for the competition along with decorations for your booth.” More interested in eating than competing? Mark Kolon, General Sales Manager, says, “A $2 donation for admission, benefiting the Police Fund will get you into the event for all the chili you can eat (don’t forget a pocket full of dollars to vote for your favorites!). We’re happy to accept additional donations over the 2 dollars at the door...and all proceeds will go right to the Sugar Land Police. Any and all expenses for this event are covered by Classic Chevy! We’ll have a Soliz Casa De Tacos Jalapeno Eating Contest, a Chicken drop, and a Fort Bend Chamber Dunking Booth with some high profile faces to dunk. Maggie Beil etween work, our children, and life, we’re all short on time. Local areaexperts All About Carpet and Floors make it easy to get quality flooring and tile without a hassle. Tim and Sarah Warburton will be the first to tell you that a job done by All About Carpet and Floors is a job done right! The Warburtons moved into their house nine years ago, when their son was just a baby. Soon––thanks to two young children, Ben and Jane, and their dog Maggie––the carpet had to go! A while back they called a flooring company to help them get rid of the carpet in the kids’ bedrooms and study, but after two years they needed the carpet removed from the master bedroom and bath. When they tried to go back to the same people the place had closed down. Sarah decided that she needed to find a company with a history and a future. She said, “If I needed more work done or had a problem, I wanted a company that would still be around! That’s why I called All About Carpet.”

“My husband and I went into the showroom but didn’t know exactly what we were looking for. Shaun made suggestions and helped us find a laminate with wide planks and beveled edges for the master bedroom. Honestly, it looks like artisan hardwood with a beautiful dark stain. In the bathroom they matched our existing tile and even pulled it up to make a border along the wall. When the kids use our shower, everything gets wet. We wanted something that looked great, but was more practical than carpet.” “I could definitely tell the difference between All About Carpet and the other company I used as soon as they began working. They were so friendly and they knew exactly what they were doing. They had different installers for the laminate and for the tile, real experts. I trusted their advice and opinions, and felt comfortable leaving my house and coming back throughout the day to pick up kids and run errands. We haven’t had a single problem, but it gives me real peace of mind knowing that if we did...All About Carpet and Floors is still here for us!” It has been a couple years since the work was done but the floors still look like new. Tim says, “The floors look beautiful...if we could only get the kids to keep stuff off of them!” The quality of the work that All About Carpet and Floors does stands the test of time, pets, and two young kids! So when it comes to home-improvements why would you call anyone else? “My family is so grateful for the community’s professional and personal support over the years,” says
Shaun. “We want you to know our showroom is always open and we’re always looking for new ways to meet your kitchen, bathroom and flooring needs. Come see us any time!” All About Carpet and Floors 281-265-3700 3145 Highway 6 South Monday through Saturday 9am to 6pm (Next to Shipley’s) www.AllAboutCarpet.com

s a florist with over thirty years in the business, Nora Sim spends plenty of time on her feet at Nora Anne’s Flower Shop. She says, “I love to create the illusion that it’s all flowers and fragrance, but the truth is that there’s a lot of running around in my job. I’ve suffered from varicose veins for years. When I sought help a few years ago, I was told the problem was strictly cosmetic. Things didn’t get better. I had painful cramps and even woke up in the night with my legs throbbing. Varicose veins run in my family and are a hazard of my profession. One day I gently bumped my leg...and the whole thing turned black and blue. I couldn’t go on like that any longer, so I went to an expert on veins...Dr. Ulises Baltazar MD,RVT,FACS of Sugar Land Vein Specialists for a free consultation.” “I heard about Dr. Baltazar from a friend of mine, Gary Blanchett, who actually had a testimonial in UpClose a few years ago. He couldn’t say enough nice things about the doctor. When I had my consultation I could tell how sensitive and caring he is. When Dr. Baltazar saw on my chart that I’m a florist, he said we’d do the procedure in December or at the end of February, because he knew how busy Valentine’s Day must be for me. I was really impressed with his attention to my needs. He has a real heart for his patients.” “The procedure I needed had to be done in the hospital instead of in-office. Not one, but two different nurses spontaneously told me that I had the best doctor when they heard who was doing my procedure. One of them even told me she’d been to Dr. Baltazar for her own varicose veins. Now I have no pain, can sleep through the night, and as a bonus...my legs look wonderful! I could wear shorts or short skirts instead of floor length dresses. After sixteen years running my own flower shop, I moved the location of Nora Anne’s Flower Shop to Lexington Blvd. Thanks to Dr. Baltazar, I’ve got a new spring in my step to go with my new location.” “When people think about varicose veins, they think of large, discolored, bulging veins,” says Dr. Baltazar, “but I’m concerned , MD, RVT, FACS about the part you can’t see. Varicose veins are caused when Sugar Land Vein Specialists faulty valves inside your vein allow blood to flow backwards and 281-240-8400 pool. Lipotuck™, Dr. A. Ahmadi’s exclusive, trademarked procedure. Lipotuck™ combines a traditional tummy tuck with liposuction…addressing not only the tummy, but also the upper abdomen, hips and love handles. It’s a completely customized, after one-stage procedure, which makes it affordable and effective at creating beautiful, natural curves on the torso. She writes, “I was a teeny, tiny bit nervous...but I was so excited for the opportunity to feel good about myself. After my consult with Dr. Ahmadi, I was completely comfortable with my decision. I knew I chose the best in the industry!”
“A
ll my life I have hated my midsection,” writes one local woman, “even when I was only a hundred pounds! I was nervous that I would never feel beautiful or sexy again. I wasn’t searching for perfection, just satisfaction when I looked in the mirror. I wanted to see myself in a picture without only seeing how big my belly was!” Does this sound familiar? If you’ve been longing to gain confidence and reclaim your beauty, you need to choose a doctor you can trust. It seems like there’s a place offering ‘cosmetic services’ around every corner...but they’re not all meeting the same standards! If a surgeon isn’t certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, no one is examining the space where procedures are performed and no one is evaluating his cases. Local surgeon, Dr. Ahmadi of Avante Plastic Surgery is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the prestigious American Board of Surgery. Dr. Ahmadi says, “I believe you deserve experience and quality...that’s why I adhere to a strict code of ethics, only operate in an accredited facility, and voluntarily undergo rigorous inspections. I want you to have confidence in every step of your transformation!” After extensive research, this mother of two chose to have
“Just four days after my procedure, I felt one hundred percent better about my appearance and couldn’t wait to flaunt my new tummy. My hubby loves my new hot bod and even family who don’t know I’ve had any work done have complimented me on my appearance! I have never confidently wore a bikini but I will be working one this summer. I am excited and motivated to get fit and eat healthy now. Dr. Ahmadi gave me the power and momentum to keep getting better over time. I love my new look!” You wouldn’t go to a restaurant that failed a health inspection...but how is it any better to go to a place that’s never been inspected at all? If you’re dreaming of a “new you,” go to a doctor that meets the highest standards and welcomes inspections and evaluations. He says, “Your health, safety, and beauty are my priority. I love seeing the light in my patients’ eyes when they realize their dreams can come true! If you’re ready to love the way you look, call to schedule your consultation today.”

GettingYour Medications Just Got Easier Amy Sharp our baby is in pain. The cold and allergy season has led to a nasty ear infection. You got in to see the doctor, but now the pharmacy says it could be two hours before they can get the prescription filled...the prescription that is the magic potion to relieving your baby’s pain. “TWO HOURS!?!”, but the clerk just gives you a there’s-nothing-I-can-do-about-it shrug. Dr. Lance Campbell Pharm.D., R.Ph. at Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy in Sugar Land founded his practice on the philosophy that “True customer service is not a thing of the past.” He says, “Don’t trust your family’s health to the chains that treat you like a number! Our mission at Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy hasn’t changed…we are still your family-friendly local pharmacy….that now accepts and bills insurance! We now stock all commercially available medications, and we continue to compound medications to meet your specific, individual needs. We accept major prescription and insurance plans. Don’t ever be treated like a number again!” Campbell’s offers all the medications you can get from the “chain-stores”…and so much more! Need a compounded topical pain cream? Many insurance plans cover it! Insurance may also cover the Tamiflu suspension, compounded nausea medications and other solutions that are just not available at a noncompounding pharmacy. “As a parent myself, I know how important convenience is

when your kids are sick,” says Dr. Campbell. “I’m so excited we can now take care of you and your family across the board. From blood pressure medication to prenatal vitamins to antibiotics to specialized compounded medications, I want to work closely with you and fill your family’s needs. I love helping people feel their best…not just with medicines, but with quick, individualized and friendly service. When you come into my store, you are not just a customer or a number, but a member of my family. And that is how you are treated! My staff and I are here to make your life easier… and accepting insurance and prescriptions plans for commercial or compounded medications is just the icing on the cake!” Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy 281-980-2555 “If our staff can’t make it…then you probably don’t need it!” 4760 Sweetwater Blvd. Suite 103 www.campbellscompounding.com

or a child with autism, an adult who’s suffered a stroke, a preschooler with delayed language, or an adult learning English as a second language, even the simplest words can be a struggle. Dana and Jason Johnson founded Speech Therapy Unlimited to give the power of communication to clients of all ages...with no waiting list for treatment! Dana says, “Having such a large, diverse team of therapists means we can consider skill sets, strengths, gender, personality, and all the things that come together to make a perfect fit between client and therapist.” The first step was finding people who really love speech therapy. “Our therapists are innovative and creative,” says Jason. “We handpicked each and every one to make sure we have people who are truly passionate about speech therapy.” Dana adds, “When Jason and I conduct our interviews, we actually hold a ‘mock therapy’ session. Jason’s a big guy, but he pretends to be a five-year-old with an issue. We know that a therapist who can figure it out and think on their feet will be a good fit...because no therapy session ever goes according to plan.” “Then we want our therapists to get as much experience as possible,” says Jason, “offering therapy in schools, clinics, hospitals, and homes. That’s why we provide additional training and continuing education and we build their skill sets. We also give them the support they need in our office and in the field. We conduct random audits of caseloads and take parental surveys. If something isn’t working, we’ll change it. Our patients and their families deserve therapy that works!” Passion and experience combine to solve problems...and at Speech Therapy Unlimited, therapists really do put their heads together! These therapists serve as resources for each other, brainstorming solutions like fun apps and new technology. Jason says, “We’re always working to partner with families so that therapy continues well past your scheduled session through every aspect of your daily life. Working together makes us stronger and more effective for the wide range of patients we treat!”
“Jason and I chose every single therapist here,” says Dana, “and we’d trust each and every one of them with our own children. That’s how confident we are in the quality of our therapists. We’d like to invite you to our Open House on March 30th from 9am-1pm. andace Shaver literally can not remember how many times she and her family have been to St. Michael’s Emergency Rooms over the years. She says, “I had seen St. Michael’s when I was driving through Sugar Land and had heard how good they were. When I got into poison ivy and had a terrible reaction, that’s where I went. The service I got on that visit was so wonderful that I’ve never considered going anywhere else!” “I first brought my sons Jared and Alex when they were injured playing Little League baseball. Now they both play at George Ranch and Alex also runs track. Jared’s most recent visit to St. Michael’s was for a concussion that kept him out of school for a week, but they’ve both been in for pulled hamstrings, one for a sprained wrist, an eye injury, and just about every kind of sports emergency you can imagine. I thank God they don’t play football! St. Michael’s has always been there for us and given us excellent care without a wait. I told Dr. Orsak he should probably name a room after the Shaver boys!” “When Jared was in seventh grade, he had a bicycle accident outside Campbell Elementary School and broke his wrist. A teacher called 911 and the ambulance took him to the nearest hospital before I could get there. We waited in that ER forever! I’ve told both boys that if they ever need to go to an emergency room again, they should speak up and ask to be taken to St. Michael’s only! Honestly, I think you could add up all our visits over the years and the the time we spent in St. Michael’s would add up to less time than a single visit to another ER. Now they know there’s only one ER

nurses there are really funny and warm. It’s never a pleasure to go to an emergency room, but for the last six years we’ve always left St. Michael’s feeling better inside and out than before we arrived!” Not a Medicare or Medicaid participating provider.

Flush!
iscal responsibility gets a lot of air time from the politicians and the pundits, but for most American families it’s just common sense. When you’re feeding a family, running a business, and trying to make ends meet, every penny counts! If you’ve got leaks in your plumbing, your home is literally leaking money. Choosing the right plumber could save you money in the short run and over the long haul, too. As a small business owner and the father of three boys (all graduates of Elkins High School), Master Plumber Alan Burkhalther believes in expert plumbing for a fair price. One of the first places to detect a leak is at the water meter outside. If you’ve got all your water inside the house turned off and you’re still seeing movement on the dial....you could have a leak! Another tip is to check your monthly bills against each other. If your bill for March 2013 is much greater than your bill for March 2012, that’s another sign of trouble. Are you ready for “Fix-a-Leak Week” March 18-24? Colleen Spencer, the Water Conservation Manager for the City of Sugar Land says, “In January our rates for surface water increased in the City of Sugar Land, so March is a great time to target those inside leaks. The water you use affects your pocketbook and the city’s pocketbook.Your toilet is the number one culprit for silent leaks inside the house. A worn out toilet flapper can cost you $50-$200 a month in wasted water. For an average Texas home using 9,000 gallons a month, a dripping faucet can cost over $10 a month. If that leak worsens to a dribbling, steady stream, the cost rises to between $50 and $100 each month in wasted water. Locking down those leaks saves you money! Choosing WaterSense appliances can also help reduce your water usage inside the home.” You don’t have to wait for a real gusher to call a plumber. Alan,
his brothers Chris and Brian, his two oldest sons Beau and Luke, and fellow team member Zach can leak-proof your plumbing all at one go. From leaky faucets to running toilets, old hot water heaters to cracked hose bibs, calling 281-261-1064 can save you money. Because water down the drain takes your hard-earned dollars with it! time when Roger Clements was playing, Dr. Lomonte was running a booth, so he let us sit in his seats. My boss, Ray Childress, had a box, so we were able to take Dr. Lomonte up there to meet Roger and his wife, Debbie.” “That game was the first time my friend JD met Dr. Lomonte. JD and I both grind our teeth at night, but it had been twenty-five years since he’d seen a dentist. He’d been talking about getting dental work done for years, but it took a toothache to get him to make an appointment. an offshore boat and we spend a lot of time hunting and fishing together. Now he’s hoping to snag Dr. Lomonte for a Billfish competition.” “Dr. Lomonte’s whole office has a down home feel, but they take your time seriously. They always scheduled my cleanings early in the morning or late in the afternoon when I’d be driving past on my way to or from work. Whether you need a cleaning, an oral cancer screening, or something bigger, Dr. Lomonte just lays out the situation and makes sure you’re one hundred percent comfortable. After JD’s root canal, Dr. Lomonte explained why veneers wouldn’t work, so JD decided on crowns and they made an appointment for Dr. Lomonte’s day off, because it was better for JD’s schedule.” “Not only that, but the day of his procedure, JD texted, “Hey Dr. We still on for today?” Not many dentists pass out their cell phone numbers... but that’s the kind of excellent dentist and stand-up guy Dr. Lomonte is!”

ocal mom Lisa Morris says, “Even when my oldest child Tyler was just a little guy in daycare, he wore glasses. One day the teachers told me another mom had adjusted his glasses for a better fit. When I met that mom––Dr. Anh Doan of Missouri City’s Vision Source––we hit it off immediately. If her daughter hadn’t been in daycare with my son, we might never have met. Now she’s been our family’s optometrist for sixteen years... and it feels like she’s part of our family!”
“My husband was born with a rare eye condition...he’s had cataracts all his life. He needs the kind of contact lenses you just can’t order online. Dr. Doan is very careful with his fittings. We knew there was a possibility our daughter would have the same problem. When she was born, her doctor had said she was fine, but I was still worried. When she was two years old, I brought her with me to one of my exams. Dr. Doan invited her to climb up in the chair just for fun to get her used to having her eyes checked. When she looked into Rachel’s eyes, she found what the specialists hadn’t...Rachel does have the same cataract condition that her daddy does.” “I’m a pharmacist, so I interact with lots of health professionals. I’ve been extremely impressed with Dr. Doan’s high standard of medical care as well as her personality. She always remembers I’m jumpy about having my eyes touched and is very gentle and calm. She really tailors your exam to your personality. She’s equally good with kids, teenagers, and adults. You can tell a lot about a doctor by how their office is run. Her staff is so friendly and welcoming...it really is like ‘Cheers’ where everybody knows your name!” “Whether you wear glasses or not, Dr. Doan is a spectacular doctor...we wouldn’t go anywhere else for our eye care! When my son was in second grade, Dr. Doan asked him what he wanted for Christmas. He said a Lamborghini. She didn’t know what that was, so he drew her a picture, along with the fact that the doors open like wings. Now he drives himself to his appointments, and his drawing is still on her wall!” Dr. Anh Doan, O.D. Vision Source! 4725 Highway 6 South 281-261-2647 www.visionsource-missouricity.com

Regina writes: “Tori’s optometrist and vision therapist recommended intensive intervention for her dyslexia/visual disorders. We had seen amazing improvement after-school from EduCoachNow, so we started Tori full-time at Knile Prep Academy. Since then, the results of Tori’s testing for visual teaming/eye coordination are SO FAR beyond expectations...and she’s developed amazing self confidence.” “Last year the dyslexia and dysgraphia were to the point where Tori struggled with basic reading and writing. Now, I have a kid engrossed in books and loving school. One of her language courses at Knile Preparatory involves the Helen Keller book. It’s amazing to experience her on the edge of her seat reading a book at that level. She’s totally connected with Helen Keller’s story and how the right teachers mean everything. She really believes that nothing can hold her back!” “At Knile Center we empower children like Tori,” says founder and learning specialist Betsy de Vega, “through our two cornerstone programs, EduCoachNow and Knile Preparatory Academy. urn on the lights, cue the music and roll out the red carpet! Little People’s Dentistry is celebrating! Celebrating YOU! This year’s customer appreciation event at Little People’s did not disappoint. Back by popular demand, the Tooth Fairy made her grand entrance, complete with wings, a wand and a tutu. Dr. Bianca Sanchez says, “I love to get dressed up as the Tooth Fairy and celebrate my patients. I’ve learn so much from them. We started this practice four years ago, and it’s become what it is today because of them!” For the photo shoot, the little celebrities (aka the patients) dressed up in boas and funny glasses, and were honored to receive “swag bags” to celebrate the occasion. Dr. Sanchez says, “Patient appreciation and our fun photo shoot is my favorite time of year. We proudly display this photo in our office all year as a big ‘thank you’ to our patients. We love the family we’ve built here over the past four years, and look forward to seeing these kiddos grow right along with us!”

Want your kiddo to be a part of the celebration next year? Dr. Sanchez says, “Let us know early. The event is so popular…we always end up with a waiting list. This year I was so excited to bring along my three-year-old son Diego. I think he was a little surprised that mommy had so many ‘other kids’ in addition to his new baby sister Gemma…but I love all of my little munchkins. I’m so honored that I play such an integral part in putting beautiful smiles on their faces!” Little People’s Dentistry “Because Kidz Are People, Too.” 281-261-0020 4706 Riverstone Blvd., Suite 200 (behind Kohl’s in Riverstone) www.LittlePeoplesDentistry.com

The Brain Injury Association of America cites the most common causes of brain injury as vehicle crashes, falls, sports injuries and violence. To prevent injury, HealthSouth Sugar Land Rehabilitation Hospital encourages our community to think ahead and make the following smart choices for brain injury prevention: • Wear a seatbelt every time you drive or ride in a motor vehicle; Buckle your child into a child safety seat, booster seat, or seat belt in the car; • Never drive or engage in physical activity while under the influence of alcohol or drugs; • Wear a helmet and make sure your children wear helmets during appropriate activities; • Use safeguards to avoid falls; • Check first the depth of the water when swimming or diving; • Make sure the surface on your child’s playground is made of shock-absorbing material, such as hardwood, mulch and sand; and • Keep firearms stored unloaded in a locked cabinet or safe. Leave Your Allergies
H
ave you been sneezing and wheezing, itching and scratching, snuffling and coughing, or struggling with the headaches and exhaustion of allergies? When over-the-counter antihistamines and nasal sprays give you side effects instead of relief, you need a better solution. Dr. Jeffery Alford of Sugar Land Wellness and Weight Loss and Dr. Dina White of Natural Solutions Health and Wellness recommend Adrops, a shot-free way to leave allergy symptoms in the dust! If only it were always possible to avoid allergy symptoms by avoiding allergens. “Unfortunately,” says Dr. White, “allergies are often caused by common things such as dust mites, grass or tree pollen, ragweed, mold, even cockroach saliva and feces. As much as you’d like to avoid these things, it’s just not possible! That’s why Dr. Alford and I test for up to sixty of the most common allergens and recommend a solution customized to you...Adrops.” What about the allergens that we just don’t want to give up? Dr. Alford says, “It breaks my heart to see people trying to choose between their pets and their health. Suffering from recurrent headaches, fatigue, snoring, sinus infections, or ear infections may also be the result of untreated allergies. Our goal with Adrops is that you will continue to enjoy your pets and experience relief from the symptoms that have been weighing you down.” Dr. Jeffery Alford of Sugar Land Wellness and Weight Loss
in the Dust!
Are you suffering? You never really know how many allergies affect you until you receive a full slate of testing. Then the same substances (allergens) that cause allergies are used to treat them. Adrops build up a blocking antibody to make your immune system less sensitive to the allergen...and that reduces your symptoms! Just one or two drops under your tongue each day for two years will build up the good blocking antibody (IgG)...and it will remain in your immune system to fight those allergies for up to seven years! Drop therapy has been used in Europe for over 60 years, as an alternative to allergy shots. Patients enjoy the convenience of taking the drops at home on their own schedule, not having to go to the doctor’s office weekly. Shots are delivered suddenly, while drops gradually absorb under your tongue, reducing your risk of an adverse reaction. Shots may take up to a year to create antibodies, while drops start developing antibodies within six weeks. Best of all for many of us, drops are a completely needle-free solution! Dr. White says, “Your drops are specially formulated for you to insure your protection during any season in any area. Our patients love their drops...and we take pride in watching them improve!” Sugar Land Wellness and Weight Loss was founded by Dr. Jeffery Alford to deliver quality care at a fair price. He says, “We treat our patients like family, and believe that patients should take an active role on their healthcare decisions. Call Sugar Land Wellness and Weight-loss for the power of i-Lipo, supportive weight loss options, and help for hormonal imbalances. You deserve to look and feel your best!” At Natural Solutions Health and Wellness Dr. White is committed to enabling you to enjoy a better quality of life by helping you maintain health and wellness naturally. She says, “We can handle everything from Botox Injections to cellulite reduction to BioIdentical Hormone Therapy to offer you complete medical and cosmetic care. You can enjoy better health through natural solutions... and take advantage of a range of aesthetic services to rejuvenate and re-energize your life!”
Want an affordable, safe, and painless way to smooth cellulite, contour your body and fight fat? Dr. Alford and Dr. White have partnered to make the FDAapproved i-Lipo available to you. If diet and exercise aren’t getting rid of stubborn fat deposits, the non-invasive i-Lipo laser shrinks fat cells immediately without damaging skin or surrounding tissue. That makes it easier to keep making healthy choices...and seeing quick results!

Take Back the Bath!
Sarah Warburton
“I
t had been ten years since I had a bath,” says Beryl Metherell, “because I’m not able to get out of one on my own. My husband and I had been talking about putting in a walk-in tub, but we just hadn’t gotten around to it. I always thought of Miracle Method as doing surfaces. Paul Barnett and his team at Miracle Method Surface Restoration had actually done the sinks and shower in a second bathroom of ours and now it looks brand-new! When I saw an advertisement for the Easy Step® in the magazine, I called right away. It’s like getting a walk-in tub...without tearing out your old one!” Miracle Method’s Easy Step® conversion creates a 24-inch wide by 9-inch tall notch in the side of the tub, so you can step through and into your bath...not over! Beryl says, “Paul had an Easy Step® set in up in the
showroom so we could see and try it. It was easy to open and shut and I could get in and out with no trouble. We knew it was the right choice for us.” Making a big change in your tub doesn’t have to be a big hassle. “Getting the work done couldn’t have been easier,” says Beryl. “Paul was in at 1pm and out by 5pm and the job was done. He was extremely obliging and also put a grab bar in the shower to make things safer for me. It’s just wonderful to be able to have a bath again!” Is your bathroom the most dangerous room in the house? The Miracle Method’s Safety Package includes the one-day installation of the Easy Step® conversion for porcelain, steel, fiberglass or acrylic tubs, two ADA approved safety grab bars, and a slip-resistant surface applied to the bottom of the tub. Paul says, “Just making it easier to get and and out of the tub can prevent dangerous falls. We have the Easy Step® and the Easy Step® with door available... and if you save your cut-out, the process is completely reversible with our proven Miracle Method process!” Miracle Method Surface Restoration 281-240-2284 603 Murphy Road (by appointment only) Stafford, TX www.miraclemethod.com/houstonsw

Walk
this Way I
f heel pain makes walking easier said than done, see what’s at the bottom of your symptoms and find relief with a specialist! Dr. Marco A Vargas is a boardcertified foot and ankle surgeon and an expert in foot biomechanics, the study of the structure and function of the foot. Instead of just eliminating heel pain with medication, injections and store-bought shoe inserts (only part of the treatment), Dr. Vargas also focuses on improving foot function so that your relief is permanent! Do you need an alternative to orthotics? Dr. Vargas is one of only two doctors certified in the greater Houston area to offer the HyProCure foot stent procedure. Dr. Vargas says, “The HyProCure is a stent that is placed in the foot like an ‘implantable orthotic,’ to help improve foot biomechanics or function and eliminates the need for orthotics. It takes less than ten minutes to perform the procedure and has been performed on patients of all ages, from age three to ninety...and all activity levels including long distance runners, basketball players, ballerinas and more. Patients can walk in a surgical shoe immediately and are back in regular shoes in about two weeks. This is a particularly effective solution for active patients, those who like to wear sandals or high heels, or those who simply don’t want to wear orthotics.” You don’t want to run all over town or keep going back to the doctor year after year for the same old heel pain. Dr. Vargas founded the heel pain center at Foot and Ankle Associates as a “one-stop-shop” to include all of the necessary tests and equipment needed to diagnose and treat heel pain. From digital X-ray, musculoskeletal ultrasound and physical therapy to Footmaxx, a computerized foot scanner used to analyze a patient’s walking pattern and foot function, patients don’t need to go anywhere else to get better...and stay that way! He says, “We also offer the K-Laser, which can eliminate heel pain symptoms in as few as 4 treatments. Whether you run all over town with your kids, work standing up, or are a professional athlete, I believe in banishing pain for good!”

Your Neighborhood AC Company S Amy Sharp
pring Break is here and…summer is just around the corner! You cannot wait for the longer days, the lazy poolside days. But maybe you can wait for the AC bill! Brian at Jackson Air and Heat in Sugar Land says, “Your AC doesn’t have to be a drain on your electric bill. Switching your old, cranky system out for a new efficient one will really save you money this summer. Never make a rash, off the cuff decision about your AC, because there is a big difference in quality and reliability when it comes to air conditioners...and air conditioning companies!” Brian’s dad Johnny started Jackson Air and Heat in 1982. More than thirty years later, Brian continues his dad’s business philosophy. He says, “Keeping families comfortable and saving them money can be one and the same thing with a highefficiency air conditioner from Trane. If you wait to replace your old one, you’ll be paying extra money for every day it is running inefficiently and run the risk of it breaking down when you really need it. This is the right time to get ready for summer!” Jackson Air and Heat is the oldest Trane Comfort Specialist in Sugar Land. Brian says, “We learned early on that along with great service he needed a great product. He teamed up with Trane out of Tyler, TX. This year Trane is celebrating their 100 year anniversary. That’s 100 years of reliability and innovation.” Jackson Air and Heat is EPA and NATE certified. For the third year in a row, Jackson Air has been the winner of the “Award of Excellence” from the Better Business Bureau, they’re endorsed by SugarLandNetwork.com and have received
the Angie’s List Super Service Award. “We know what you need to make it through the long hot humid Texas summers,” says Brian, “and Trane will get you there. At Jackson Air we also understand efficiency, quality of air, and ‘greenness’. In 2013 it’s no longer just about cooling and heating…it’s also energy efficiency and indoor air quality. Installation is the most important part of a new system, so we do not use sub contractors. Everyone at Jackson Air stays current on training and education so that you can reap the benefits of comfort and saving money. And our emphasis on comfort doesn’t stop at equipment…we are here to provide honest, no pressure advice and we always follow up to ensure your complete satisfaction.” “You shouldn’t have to call a here-today, gone-tomorrow company or someone located 100 miles down the road. At Jackson Air, we’re your service, repair and replacement specialists...and your neighbors. We’re right here in Fort Bend where we’ve always been...and we’re ready to help when you need us!” Jackson Air and Heating, Inc. “Licensed to Chill Since 1982” Sugar Land’s Oldest Independent Trane Dealer 281-240-1037 www.LicensetoChill.us

A Brand New Door…One Year Later! Amy Sharp
“M
y front door looked beyond bad,” says Beja Masella, “It was pitiful. There was no shine…it was one weather-beaten old wooden door.” Beja knew she wanted to have someone local and independent fix it up for her. Having heard and read about Rick’s Doors great reputation of refinishing beautiful doors, she made the call. “The appointment process was very smooth and the nice lady taking the call got me in quick. I had decided I wanted the door DONE, and I was very happy I did not have to wait a month or six weeks!” On a drizzly, cloudy day last March, Rick’s crew arrived at Beja’s door right on time. Beja says, “I was a little concerned about the weather, but they assured me they could get the job done. The crew was very professional in explaining the
process to me. They hung plastic to protect my house while Rick’s crew refinished the door right on site. After everything was said and done, my door was breathtaking and no mess was left. Rick himself even stopped by as they were finishing up…it’s always nice to see the owner of the company!” Now it’s been a year since Rick’s Doors refinished Beja’s door. Beja says, “Guests compliment my door all the time…they say it looks brand new. I used to say, ‘It’s been 6 months since I had it refinished’…but then it was 8 months, 10 months, and now a year and it still looks as beautiful as the day it was done! I tell them to absolutely call Rick’s Doors. For the price you get great service and a fantastic product…one that you can expect to last and last!” Visit Rick’s Doors webpage or Facebook page…they are filled with before-and-after pictures of amazing transformations, just like Beja’s. And when you are ready to wow guests with your own beautiful door, Rick says, “Call Ms. Terry and set up an appointment. s Head Athletic Trainer for the Texans, Geoff Kaplan is used to evaluating a situation and making a decision. After all, he does it every day. So when it became clear that the air conditioning system in his home would need to be replaced, he did his research. Geoff says, “I wasn’t going to make a $10,000-$15,000 investment on a whim. I talked to different people to get the names of the air conditioner companies they used, did research on the internet, and ended up with four or five different companies. I sat down with each of them and got basic quotes and bids...and decided on All Out A/C.” “Right away I liked that the person who came out and gave us the bid was one of the owners, Bryan Bellamy. He was very easy to deal with and even gave me his cell phone number in case I had any questions or concerns down the line. That’s much better than having to call some 800 number and ending up with any old technician. With All Out A/C I definitely felt they were a company where you would know the people doing your repairs and you could always talk to the owner.” “Going into this process, I had absolutely no idea that prices were negotiable! Bryan made a very aggressive bid, gave me a comprehensive breakdown of all the costs, and talked about different things that could make our system more efficient. He made everything very straightforward. I am confident in the professionalism and expertise of All Out A/C.” “I really enjoy meeting our customers and walking them through their options,” says Bryan. “We take installation of all new units extremely seriously.
