They may switch back and forth between languages in the same sentence or use the grammar of one language when speaking in another, but that’s normal. The most important thing for parents and other adults to do is to model correct speech in whichever language you are speaking with your child.” How do you know if your bilingual child does have a speech problem? Dana says, “If your child

does not reach language milestones, that’s a good time for an evaluation. Some children raised bilingual do take a little longer to start talking, but it’s not a general rule. Two and three-year-old children who have a very limited vocabulary in either language and don’t combine words into phrases and sentences should also
