Sunken Vessels.
SUNKEN VESSELS Academic Core Studio | Design Research Aristotle University of Thessaloniki | 2014 Critic: Anastasios Tellios Software: Rhino3D | Grasshopper | Zbrush | Photoshop Modeling: 3D printing The current project is the result of a spatial investigation, under the title “corrupt masters”. Purpose of the research was a metaphorical corruption of the design principles of several classic building, and in this case, the corruption of Villa Savoye, designed by Le Corbusier. Studying the way in which Le Corbusier, designed Villa Savoye, it resulted that, he had created a 3D grid and he used it, as a tool of manipulation of space. Studying that 3D Grid, it came out, a new one, based on the intensity of space. This new grid, generated a new augmented reality. An object of a fantastical word, who tried, as Le Corbusier tried, to win gravity.
The project “Sunken Vessels” was the official poster of Experimental Architecture Biennial #2 at Galerie Jaroslana Fragnera, Prague “Sunken Vessels” presented as part of the agenda of the design studio “08 EX 12 - Xorikes Dierevniseis / Spatial Investigations” title of agenda: ‘I have always been there’ studio director: Anastasios Tellios, agenda 2010-2015 Oct 2015 The project “Sunken Vessels” presented as part of the exhibition “On Architecture - Facing the Future” at Gallery of Science and Technology, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts . The project “Sunken Vessels” was presented as digital print and 3d printed model. Mentor of project was Anastasios Tellios, with the research project “Hidden Natures”. Dec 2014
Clinamen.
CLINAMEN Diploma Thesis | Design Research Aristotle University of Thessaloniki | 2016 Collaborator: Vasiliki Alamanou Critic: Anastasios Tellios Software: Rhino3D | Grasshopper | Python | Maya | Zbrush | Photoshop | Autocad2D Modeling: Laser Cut | 3d printing Clinamen, or in other words change, tilt, twist. It describes the unpredictability in the process of creation. In architectural creation, clinamen constitutes the starting point for a series of theoretical and spatial approaches around the transcription of clinamen to design strategies. The concretization of this process into material substance, and the human scale affected the specific architectural design bringing to the surface the concept of decomposition, which will be the starting point of the series of spatial experimentation. Decomposition is regarded as a process of nature over the built human infrastructure, whose outcome is expected and received as undesirable. However, seen from a different angle, it could be recorded as a narrative of matter, which, beyond the predetermined geological effect, it also constitutes a continuous production of spatial qualities, by subtractions of matter. The analysis of this complex phenomenon begins with an approach through its biological status, where the first conclusions are obtained about the micro scale of the phenomenon, but also about its hidden structures. Its biological imprint, leads to the first experimental illustrations with respect to the surrounding environment of a building which is being decomposed. The experience of the first experiments is, thus, acquired, leading to the need of finding the architectural scale. The point into the city fabric that possesses characteristics of building decay and that could be the ideal tractor for the concept of derogation, is sought. At this point, the grid is introduced, synchronized to the dimensions of the existing decaying building, which is given the ability to hold at its structures of nuggets of matter, which escapes from the structure of the building during its decomposition process. The grid is identified with the element that will generate the “clinamen”, eventually leading to the formation of a new geology. The result is a hybrid connection of geological and ordinary structures, which will be classified to their individual spatial understanding. The need to harmonize geological structures arising from the illustration of the city, leads to their gradual rationalization. The result is the creation of an inclusive space, made up of parts of different spatial qualities, which, operating as one entity, satisfies public areas whose basic operations concern knowledge and culture areas.

Hyades.
‘HYADES’. PUBLIC ART PLATFORM FOR THE CITY OF SUNCHEON Global Competition | Cultural Center Design Thessaloniki | 2016 TTDZ ARCHITECTS Software: Rhino3D | Grasshopper | Keyshot | Photoshop | Autocad2D Hyades is a constellation of experiences, physical, material, sensorial and mental. The value of Hyades incorporates knowledge of the urban setting of Suncheon, surrounding natural ecologies, introspective human exploration, local folk expression and cosmic investigation. The experience in Hyades requires navigating and constant interacting with physical space, cultural environment, self-expression and intuition. It requires a public, common ground and the dynamics of personal itineraries. Art is vitally placed inside as the mediator between earth and sky, ground and stars, body and soul. In Greek mythology, the Hyades were the daughters of Atlas and half-sisters to the Pleiades. After the death of their brother, Hyas, the weeping sisters were transformed into a cluster of stars that was afterwards associated with rain. (source: Wikipedia) The project is articulated in six basic experiences: -City: Hyades is a constellation of twelve buildings. Size, heights, scale and arrangement are in analogy to the old city of Suncheon. -Nature: Natural elements are articulated between built and open space. Three distinct natural carpets are the sources of green elements. -Walk: A prominent, floating route from the entrance to the transcendental place of the new yeonja-ru, through the built volumes of the city, smoothly rising from the city surface moving upwards. -Forest: A full constellation of vertical structural elements offer a dual physical reference to both a natural forest and the folk element of ‘sodtae’, the local, wooden, bird ornamented totems. -Dome: Art platform is covered by a square shaped canopy, of cosmic origin, the dome, protecting and connecting the whole area to weather elements, sunlight, rainwater and wind. -New Yeonja-ru: The iconic end of the floating walk, where promenade meets a hovering platform. Earth, nature and sky, art and divinity are subtly interpreted.
The project ‘Hyades’ has been shortlisted as runner-up and selected for publication in the International Ideas Competition for the best proposal for the ‘Suncheon Art Platform’ in the city of Suncheon, South Korea. The competition was conducted with the endorsement from the UIA - International Union of Architects.
Bless the mess!
Bless the Mess! Personal Work | Design Research | 3D printing Thessaloniki | 2016 Collaborator: Vasiliki Alamanou Software: Rhino3D | Grasshopper | PythonScript | Zbrush | Photoshop Modeling; 3D printing What happens when the tower as a human contrivance meets nature’s towers? When the Cartesian device of human structure meets nature’s geology? A vertical construction is synthesized, a composition of transitions between absolute regularity and organic randomness, where the winner is absent. A synthesis experiment between two different systems of growth, that spread in a continuous choreographic switch between structures of bearing or filling, developing both cooperative and competitive relations, with the common purpose of conquering the same area. Through this interaction, internal rules are developed, which govern the complex structure. A singular typology is emerged, able to introduce a new autonomous system. The starting point of this typology can be considered a typical cube that is Intertwined anddense elements. The experiment of coupling two opposing elements, which are viewed as the two poles of a common system, attempts to produce an aesthetic that balances between structure and chaos, trying to describe in physical terms, the procedure that takes place constantly between the manmade and natural environment, raising questions about perfection, continuity, regularity and eternity. Consequently multiplied in an identical or variable pattern of configuration, according to horizontal and vertical composition principles based on cube unit, size and the way each unit connects to its neighboring. However, as these cubes are encapsulated to the scaffold, each one possessing particular characteristics than its adjacent, the final result looks homogeneous and continuous, but with a high degree of complexity and intricacy, enclosing a path through both hollow spaces, but also through more intertwined and dense elements. urban symbiogenesis
THE SYNERGISM HYPOTHESIS. Urban Design Studio | Public Space Design Research Aristotle University of Thessaloniki | 2014 Collaborators: Kalfa Fofo, Prigkou Stamatina, Charisi Anastasia Software: Rhino3D | Grasshopper | Photoshop | Autocad2D The aim of this study is the composition and organization of spatial structures and relations that focus on human activity and behavior. Starting from the understanding of basic natural structures and organisms, we were leaded to the notion of “hyper organisms, such as swarms, flocks of birds and insects like ants, as well. Through the design process we will get in touch with the study of the structures themselves, with their functional characteristics and we will try to express them diagrammatically, defining the rules under of which these structures spread in space. We have already talked about the notions of synergy, symbiogenesis, self-organization and anastomosis, which form the content of the relations developed in the hyperorganisms. So, we reduce these relations to relations between the living members of an urban society by researching their movements, concentrations and diffusions. The research is done in a space that contains the urban landscape and its natural geographical relief. We consider the space with its elements and data like an experimental environment, feeding it with the relations between the members of a city and observing their behavior. Plans and sections that are produced during the design process narrate the human activity in the urban environment, aiming to indicate both free public and housing spaces.
Small resident.
SMALL RESIDENCE. Design Studio | Residence Aristotle University of Thessaloniki | 2008 Collaborators: Oikonomakis Ilias, Serasidou Anna Software: Photoshop | Autocad2D An hypothesis of a small resident, located somewhere in Greece. Purpose of the design was the creation of a functional house, in which materiality and simples lines, are the core of synthesis. As a result, came out a ground floor house, with two major spaces, a living room, and the a master bedroom. The meaning of light in Greece, but also the necessity for protection of high temperatures, led to creation of two major outdoor spaces, directly connected to the heard of house. The final image of house is described as a minimal house, who follows the lines and the direction of the ground.
Hotel.
HOTEL. Academic Core Design Studio | Residence Aristotle University of Thessaloniki | 2010 Collaborators: Tsogkas Panagiotis, Serasidou Anna Software: Photoshop | Autocad2D | Rhino3D | Vray This hotel complex is designed for a unique location, near the city of Thessaloniki, in Greece. It is a place, near the airport, in a big field, on the sea. The building program, include 50 rooms, a restaurant, a spa and a marina. The concept of the design is affected by the intense presentation of water. Major purpose is the creation of a small peninsula, where the hotel complex, will be surrounded by the water. For that reason, marina is installed, parallel to coast, at the site of city, while the basics spaces of hotel are installed, between those water surfaces.
