WELCOME Lochaber Ideas Week is going to be an annual, week long gathering of global thought leaders created to provoke new ideas and inspire actionable results. Lochaber Ideas Week is a catalyst to stimulate new initiatives and ventures, creating new connections and points of collaboration designed to enhance the area we live in. As a result of Lochaber Ideas Week bringing together LamontDesign, Chamber of Commerce, the Outdoor Capital of the UK, Business Gateway, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and the Highland Council an exciting week has become established. Competitions such as the “LamontDesign Dragons Glen” aim to actively inspire innovation and entrepreneurship within
our local area, whilst “Around Lochaber in 80 Tables” serves as a business networking event designed to encourage businesses to increase their exposure within the marketplace and create opportunities for future partnership. Attending Lochaber Ideas Week will allow you to become part of a diverse community of practitioners from Lochaber, the Highlands and the UK. Lochaber Ideas Week will offer a unique platform to share your ideas, hear ideas on the next big projects in our region and provides a multitude of networking/community building opportunities. You won’t want to miss it!

Join Karen Davidson from Scottish Business in the Community and Sheila Rae from Innovus in a unique opportunity to explore methods of creating multiple benefits to your business and community.
John Hutchison from the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust, Rosemary MacPhee involved in multiple community projects, Ken Johnston involved with the community project in the Pine Grove area of the Plantation, and Marion Smith from Voluntary Action Lochaber will discuss their knowledge of community projects. Also joining us is Martin Culbertson and Emma Tayler who will outline the current range of Highland Council financial support potentially available to help develop community initiatives. Norrie Maclean, who worked on the Belford Gardens and Old Fort rejuvenation will discuss local projects and outline the importance of our communal spaces and schemes. This is a great opportunity for businesses and members of the public to get involved with current and developing community projects and ideas.

A Business Improvement District (BID) for Lochaber provides an exciting opportunity to invest and deliver collectively in Lochaber to realise the area’s aspirations. To ensure this happens the BID has developed a clear strategy, with projects and services businesses in Lochaber want delivered. Frazer Coupland and members of the Fort William Chamber of Commerce will present and discuss the BID for Lochaber.

The aspirational Jay Shaw MBE from Snoozebox will be joining us to outline the design and production of quirky, comfortable pop-up hotels. Ian Springford Architects will present “MyPlace”, a modular pod concept for a new type of hotel.
Mountain biking is serious business in Lochaber, discover how it can benefit your company. Mountain biking is already worth £139m to the Scottish economy, with growth expected at around 30% over the next five years (British Cycling, 2011). Graeme MacLean from Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland will discuss the current state and economic potential for mountain biking in Scotland. He will highlight how businesses from a variety of sectors can capitalise on the mountain bike industry and how Scotland is becoming a world leader in mountain biking.
Lochaber Question Time Keith Mackie from Scottish Canals will highlight the unique business opportunities opening up on the Caledonian Canal between Banavie and Gairlochy.
