Foreword June Cheryl “Chaye” Cabal-Revilla
It is often an overlooked aspect of society to give a tribute of appreciation to the teachers and instructors who have molded us into the people that we’ve become today. The busyness of everyday life has sometimes caused us to neglect the very people from whom we owe much of our learning during our formative years. As such, the PLDT-SMART Foundation has sought to address this by creating the Gabay Guro Program, whose projects envision giving back to the teachers the gift that they have given us by providing for gem avenues to foster their professional development, and ultimately, help improve the quality of education in the Philippines. These programs include scholarship grants, trainings, housing and educational facilities, livelihood, teachers’ tribute, computerization and broadbanding. The Teachers’ Treasure Chest is a by-product of this said vision, a course designed by Alexander S. Kibanoff which aims to guide its users toward becoming more effective instructors to Filipino students. The following chapters are divided into “Golden Lessons,” each shedding a light on qualities, styles, strategies and tips that could be of good points of reflection and application for Filipino teachers. It provides for an innovative perspective in the country’s quest for a more progressive society through quality education.
