Alexandrakis Farm was set up by Pavlos Alexandrakis in 1999 as a family business. The rabbit farm is located in Monastiraki, a village in Crete which is the biggest island in Greece. Rabbit meat has always been an integral part of the Cretan Diet. Therefore, the foundation of the company was Pavlos’ experience in rabbit breeding; he began breeding rabbits for consumption within the family in 1987. The farm has come a long way since then, it now has a capacity of 1200 female rabbits and breeding takes place under scientific supervision and according to European standards of animal nutrition. Alexandrakis Farm ensures the quality of its products by employing people with strong scientific backgrounds i.e. an animal scientist, a food scientist/ technologist and a veterinarian. We own a state of the art slaughterhouse for rabbits and poultry, built in 2009 (the second built in Greece). The ISO 22000:2005 standard is applied in order to ensure the safety and the quality of our products. The slaughterhouse is certified by the Greek and European authorities; the certification code of the slaughterhouse is P 52 and the certification code of the packaging and processing facilities is PE 170 . The slaughterhouse covers the needs of Alexandrakis Farm as well as the needs of the breeders in the prefectures of Rethymno and Chania. The core activity of our company is delivering freshly slaughtered rabbits to butchers and 3 big supermarket chains in Crete and the rest of Greece on a weekly basis.
Our product is naturally unique both in terms of quality and taste and a million euro investment was made in order to reach this level of quality according to international standards. This gives us the opportunity to be able to offer a taste of Greek quality food to people around the world, through Cretan Rabbit.
