The Taylor Residence Remodel

color palette inspired by Rothko prints

inspiration: Anthropologie stores

The Taylor's newly combined kitchen, dining, and living space seamlessly blends the couple's preferences for both traditional and modern aesthetics. Mixing bold colors with fun textures, Mrs. Taylor's eclectic and quirky style is satisfied, while keeping the strong traditional forms for Mr. Taylor. The combination of soft linens, industrial iron, mid-century lines, and lush textiles creates a whimsical and welcoming space that suits both their aesthetic and functional needs. The space begs both visitor and home-owner to come in and stay a while.

Model Building

These balsa wood models were built to accompany a paper arguing the importance of architecture during the Russian Revolution.

They show the Winter Palace, Alexander Palace, and the Church on the BLood, built on the sight of the Romanov executions in honor of the royal family.

The Woodlands A Resort

A

conceptual hospitality destination dreamt up by a culinary professor, The Woodlands is a fantasy retreat like no other. An enchanted forest meets Lord of the Rings, The Woodlands provides an unmatched luxury stay for anyone looking for a unique vacation getaway. The main house, designed in highstyle Art Nouveau, houses the lobby, several lounges, bars, and a five-star restaurant. Along the winding grounds are private cottages, all culminating around a crystal clear lake. The grounds have walking trails, grottos, and private patios for its residents. This project was completely conceptual, with no building shell. This allowed the design to be created from the inside out, creating not only the individual buildings, but the entire grounds of the estate.

Kaslauskas Residence

E

dita Kaslauskas moved into the basement of her family's ranch home. She needed an apartment with a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchenette that would accomodate her petite height, as well as her use of a walker, and eventual wheelchair use. The apartment needed to embrace Universal Design to accomodate not only her walker, but her petite height as well. She longed for an apartment remenscient of her visit to the 1964 World's Fair as a child, and preferred the atomic patterns and textures of mid-century design.

The challenges of this project were not only the design standards of Universal Design, but the limitations that a basement space of 700 square feet presented.

Canterbury Court C

anterbury Court, a luxury independent living facility in Brentwood, Tennessee, needed a redesign of several of their communal and entry spaces. Inspired by water in nature, a cool color scheme of blues, creams, and greys was selected to provide a calming and serene atmosphere. The project was a group effort between myself and two other partners. We completed the space planning as a team, and then divided up different tasks from there. My contributions included all finish and fabric selections, as well as final renderings.

H

ands on Nashville is a non-profit management group that recently moved their headquarters into the old Trolley Barns of Nashville. The barns are completely open, providing a very basic shell. This project was a great excercise in programming, and schematic design, as well as an opportunity to work on my Google SketchUP skills. I built and fully rendered the model in 3D, as well as many custom furniture pieces.

Lancaster Boathouse Renovation

The Lancaster's newly renovated boathouse is located in Philadelphia, PA, nestled into Boathouse Row along the Schuylkill River. The young family wanted a vacation home that reflected the formality and opulence of Old Philadelphia, but with the modernity and comforts of home. A two-story, sprawling shell of a building, the new boathouse is designed for entertaining. The main floor reflects the grandeur of Old Philly, while the living quarters downstairs accomodate lounging and provide access to the water.

The walls are fully upholstered in an emerald green velvet, with traditional furnishings and a glamorous antique chandelier. The twenty-four foot ceilings provided a design opportunity for an upstairs study nook, through which I suspended the chandelier, provided a dynamic view from above and below, as well as creating a grand view from the front door.

Cracker Barrel Headquarters

Cracker Barrel headquarters approached our class about doing a re-design for their operations building. The building is over 25,000 square feet, and housed over 300 employees. We worked in teams of three, and each had our own space which we were responsible for. As a group, our concept was to bring Cracker Barrel into a sleek, sophisticated new era, attracting both new investors and new customers. I re-designed the two-story lobby space, centering the reception desk, and introducing new textures and materials, as well as a place to proudly display their heritage.

Green Hills Bath Renovation The design for this bath and dressing room renovation stems from a love of style and glamour. A fusion of mid-century modern, art deco and chinoiserie, the space makes a bold statement. Much like a favorite piece of jewelry, the space is elegant, yet quirky, and demands attention. The graphic pattern of the flooring acts like a guide, leading the eye around the room and letting it rest momentarily on each focal area. The gold accents give warmth to the space, and create an exciting atmosphere with which to begin and end each day. An elegant, yet whimsical getaway, the new bath and dressing room wholly encompasses the personality of the clients.

casework paint Both the water closet and vanity provided a new design opportunity to introduce a fresh pattern and color with no fear of competition from the rest of the space. Glossy black trim and a graphic wallcovering instantly add glamor to the watercloset, while a stylish wallcovering and x-stool in a pop of magenta provide instant character and personality to the vanity. Each space has its own distinct flair.

The client's needs for the closet were very specific, as well as multi-purpose. As I used as few doors as possible, the dressing area also needed to tie into the rest of the bathroom. With over 80 pairs of shoes, many suits and gowns, and luggage storage, the new dressing room meets all the clients needs. This was my first foray into closet design.
