Around the clock : An interior design study on a open public space This study, undertaken by Politecnico di Milano as the Interior Desing Studio

Aims of the project : • Renovation of an open space • Creative space • Enhancment of Space identity

The primary objective of the studio was to redefine an open space as a cohesive room. This presented a challenging opportunity to delve into creative ideas and establish functionality within the space. Our task was to pay homage to the historical significance of the area while respecting its context. Our central focus revolved around harnessing the power of light and shadow as integral interior elements.

As I stroll through Piazza Banchi, it becomes evident that despite its illustrious history, the square seems detached from its true potential. While it is surrounded by buildings of great significance, including a church, a historic theater, and various banks and shops, it lacks a distinct purpose and exudes a sense of ambiguity.

The presence of the church and the surrounding palaces does indeed bestow upon the piazza a certain charm. Nonetheless, it is conspicuously devoid of fundamental elements of urban infrastructure, particularly urban furniture. Consequently, it has evolved into more of a thoroughfare than a focal point for communal gatherings, failing to fulfill its potential as a central hub in the city.

The absence of shaded areas during the day has led to elevated temperatures and an uncomfortable ambiance, discouraging people from lingering in the piazza. Moreover, the inadequate lighting design at night transforms the square into a dark, foreboding space, further contributing to its emptiness during evening hours. This lack of safety features becomes a prominent concern within this urban area. “Integrate multifunctional standing lamps into the urban space, serving as primary elements in its rejuvenation. These lamps function as seating, lighting, and structural supports for the room’s ceiling.”

Fragmantal Unity: A Study on urban regenaration of an abondoned neighbourhood This study, undertaken by Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with the Comune di Milano.

Aims of the project : • Regeneration of open spaces • Requalification of resitential zones An abandoned neighborhood in southern Milan called Grattosoglio was originally constructed as a social housing project, intended to become a community for workers who had immigrated to Milan. Despite being situated within a lush green environment with significant natural potential, the neighborhood faces various challenges, including issues such as inadequate safety measures, limited accessibility, undefined and vacant spaces, as well as fragmented zones. The proposal focuses on two main objectives: Formulating a new master plan to establish a cohesive and interconnected public space. Implementing interventions within the residential blocks to enhance the quality of microspaces.

14

There are excessive parking spaces scattered throughout the area. These parking areas encroach upon public and micro spaces, disrupt pedestrian routes, and have taken precedence.

Access to certain points involves unnecessary turns, complicating the journey.

P P P

Pathways have physical ledges, reducing connectivity and visibility, increasing insecurity, and creating a perception of greater length.

P

P

The main street’s excessive width is not proportional to the daily traffic it accommodates, resulting in space wastage. Furthermore, it serves as a dividing line that splits the area into two zones, causing spatial separation.

The pedestrian flow is occasionally disrupted by the wide street, and the placement of crosswalks is inadequate.

The pedestrian pathway’s continuity is occasionally disrupted by the broad street. Additionally, the placement of crosswalks is inadequate, leading to separated entrances and reduced social interactions. P

P

The facade colors categorize these blocks into districts, yet the orientation of the building entrances contradicts this strategy.

The colors serve as an endeavor to establish districts, while also functioning as a navigational aid for understanding the neighborhood and determining one’s location. In the northern sections

The confined spaces between masses can be organized into different levels of clarity based on the positioning of edges and surfaces

The disproportionate scale of the building blocks in comparison to human size can be addressed by adjusting elements to establish a sequence that gradually increases in scale through various components.

The entrances are poorly placed, resulting in limited interaction among neighbors. They display a monotonous appearance and are nearly indistinguishable from each other, lacking a sense of identity and clear readability.

The secondary facade serves a dual purpose: to infuse the building with a fresh identity while also acting as a covering for the balconies. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic principles of De Stijl Art, this facade embodies modernity while preserving the vibrant essence of the pre-existing structures. The application of De Stijl Art as the guiding design language in the master plan adeptly captures spaces in a nuanced manner, skillfully delineating their diverse functions through an intricate network of connection lines and precisely defined borders for individual space packages.

Flexible Spaces: A Study on interior layout of buildings and furnishing to create flexible spaces through time. Master Thesis, undertaken by Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with the DLC Company

Aims of the project : • • • • •

Reduce the time of renovation Reduce the cost of renovation Reduce the energy consumption in construction works. Multiple renovation during short time span Altering spaces functions

The renovation and restyling of a space effected by Mechanical and structural Plans. These operations consumes lots of time, energy and financial and natural resources. As a result many teanents adapt themselve to their home. Flexible house with mobile divisioner provides solutions to break this cylce. Where creation a new space will be as easy as

19

The prerequisite of a flexible space is flexible elements, which they can divide the space into microspaces. On the other hand these elements shouldnt appear as partition, but they should appear as architecural design elements. Following these we can create a flexible space with 2 concept. 1. Movable Modular Walls (MMW) 2. Movable Modular Furniture (MMF)

Flexible layout using MMW

Flexible layout using MMF

To have such a fluid space which let us play with different layout and create diverse alternative in a single space we need to have a special structure. For this reason the Domus prefabricated system had been chosen with two main advantages. Structural system which can create a space up to 144m2 (12x12) without any colunm in the space. Cavities inside walls and floating floor system which allows to have a flexible electrical and mechanical layout.

Saint Gobian : Design a new headquarter for Saintgobian company This project done by Principioattivo Architecture Group.

Aims of the project : • • • •

Modern minimal design Creative space Use of Material of Saint Gobian Rebranding the company

The client’s vision for their new office space encompassed a vibrant and cheerful atmosphere, combined with the need for privacy and transparency to showcase their work to potential clients. Our proposal involved creating an open-plan office with a modern-minimalist aesthetic. Within our team, my role extended beyond the initial conceptualization phase to the development of the architectural layout and interior design, ensuring that the space aligns seamlessly with the client’s aspirations.

The building comprises four floors. The ground floor is designed to be an open and inviting space, ideal for commercial and marketing activities. The first and second floors have been designated for office functions, offering a productive workspace. The third floor is dedicated to management offices

Showroom

The ground floor layout is thoughtfully designed to foster a dynamic and fluid environment, with three primary sections: Showroom - Conference zone - Bistrot Upon entering the building, visitors are welcomed into the showroom, featuring three rooms showcasing the client’s products. A captivating showpiece at the entrance provides an engaging introduction. This layout allows for a smooth transition from the showroom to the conference zone, ensuring an immersive and informative experience for visitors.

Our overarching goal was to vividly demonstrate the capabilities of the company’s products.

We embarked on a challenging design journey for the conference room, incorporating several striking elements. This included seamlessly merging curved glass walls with curved plaster walls, creating a visually captivating transition. Inside the room, the wave-like ceiling design serves as a focal point, immediately capturing the attention of visitors as they enter the space.

The entrance hallway features a showroom displaying plaster panels and a metal wall structure alongside hanging acoustic panels. This design emphasizes the company’s materials and craftsmanship while enhancing the overall aesthetics and acoustics of the space.

25

The showroom-meeting rooms are designed to balance a tranquil atmosphere with effective product exposure. This is achieved through the integration of plaster panels, which serve as modern interior furniture, combining both aesthetics and functionality seamlessly.

For the first and second-floor offices, the central concept revolves around a dynamic, open-space plan that maximizes transparency while ensuring privacy. To achieve this, we identified two key focal points to strategically position meeting rooms. These meeting room locations serve as anchors around which open and semi-open office spaces are thoughtfully organized, promoting a harmonious balance between collaboration and individual work within the office environment.

26

The third floor’s concept revolves around creating a closed office layout that prioritizes privacy. In addition to this, the design includes multiple meeting rooms strategically positioned at the center and the south side of the building. These meeting rooms serve as hubs for managerial discussions as well as client meetings. The office spaces are intelligently arranged around these central meeting areas, optimizing the functionality and confidentiality of the third floor.

3X5 : Interior design for a small office This project done by Atmosphere Architecture Group.Honorable mention project in Iran yearly interior design award.

Aims of the project : • Maximum use of space • Economical design • Innovative approach

The project involved the interior design of a compact office space for a real estate agency. The primary challenge was to maximize space utilization while incorporating multifunctional storage solutions. Situated in the bustling heart of Mashhad city, the client’s aspiration was to create a visually striking and unique modern office space that would capture attention.

28

The client’s primary objective was to maximize the utilization of the 15-square-meter office space, aiming for an inviting and vibrant atmosphere. Given its commercial nature, it was essential to create an environment that exuded transparency, making it appear more spacious than its actual dimensions. The office’s purpose was to serve as a real estate agency, underscoring the fundamental importance of showcasing architectural aesthetics.

The conventional approach for a similarly sized space often involves utilizing the solid side walls for placing furnishings, resulting in a common layout where a significant portion of the space remains underutilized. In such setups, the inefficiency of space utilization can exceed 3040%. Documents Greenness

These rhythmic panels contribute to an illusion of expanded space through their striped lines. The use of a clean, white color and minimalist design further enhances the perception of spaciousness. Additionally, these panels offer versatile, internal multifunctional areas that can adapt to specific spatial requirements. They can serve as spaces for greenery and aesthetic elements or be repurposed for storage, depending on the immediate needs.

The concept began with the notion of optimizing space by incorporating storage and functional elements along the walls to minimize wastage. This idea evolved into the creation of a second layer or skin to conceal these functions on the wall surfaces. However, the intention was not to entirely conceal these elements

. Instead, we aimed to achieve a semi-transparent effect by crafting dynamic and rhythmic wooden panels, allowing glimpses of the underlying functions while adding aesthetic appeal.

While the dynamic movements of the panels add a sense of liveliness, it’s important to acknowledge that excessive movement can potentially have a negative impact on the overall spatial experience. In a well-designed space, there should be a balance between movement and moments of stillness, creating a harmonious sequence. To achieve this equilibrium, traditional panels were introduced to provide a stabilizing and solid element within the space. These conventional panels serve as anchors, counterbalancing the dynamic movements, and contribute to a more balanced and cohesive spatial experience.

Culture sea shore : Regeneration of Mariupol Sea shore This project done by Principioattivo Architecture group. Awarded as top Three finalists.

Aims of the project : • Active Urban space • Increase touristic attraction • Sustainble enviromental design The Mariopul competition, organized by the Ukrainian government with the goal of regenerating the shoreline, saw our proposal honored among the top three finalists. Unfortunately, the ravages of war prevented the winning project from becoming a reality. My heartfelt wish is for peace and prosperity to embrace the residents of Mariupol. The seaside in Mariupol had long suffered from neglect, poor accessibility, and a lack of cohesive activities and functions. Our primary focus was on enhancing mobility and accessibility along the shoreline, as well as restoring the connection between the seaside and the city, which had been severed by the presence of the railway. Furthermore, we envisioned diverse zones along the seaside, each catering to different functions, to ensure a vibrant and active waterfront throughout all seasons and around the clock.

31

OUR STRATEGY INVOLVED CREATING DIVERSE ZONES ALONG THE SEASIDE, EACH TAILORED TO ITS UNIQUE CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT. A KEY FOCUS WAS ESTABLISHING A STRONG EAST-WEST AXIS CONNECTION, LINED WITH ACTIVITIES FOR A LIVELY ATMOSPHERE. WE USED ARCHITECTURAL VOLUMES TO DEFINE SPACES WHILE RESPECTING THE NATURAL TOPOGRAPHY.

THE REVISED STRATEGY SHIFTED THE MOBILITY EMPHASIS TOWARDS DESIGNING A DEDICATED CORRIDOR FOR PEDESTRIANS AND BICYCLES. SUSTAINABILITY WAS A CORE CONSIDERATION, AIMING TO REDUCE POLLUTION IN THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. ADDITIONALLY, WE RECONFIGURED THE SECTION LINE TO ESTABLISH A GREEN BUFFER BETWEEN THE RAILWAY AND SEASIDE. OUR OBJECTIVE WAS TO FOSTER A CONNECTION BETWEEN BOTH SIDES OF THE RAILWAY, SEAMLESSLY LINKING THE CITY AND THE SEASIDE. THIS ADJUSTMENT SOUGHT TO ENHANCE BOTH ACCESSIBILITY AND THE ECOLOGICAL INTEGRITY OF THE AREA.

As we declared - authenticity is our priority. The steady flow of history should be accepted in a physical environment as well. Ukraine is writing its history, not rewriting. Mariupol is building its city, not rebuilding. The embankment is being developed, not reconstructed. Through all the philosophic and economic grounds of a minimal intervention approach, we did not forget to create a storefront of different cultures accumulated in time in city and its surroundings. Here the shape of the theater is inspired of an ornament of Azov Greeks, the SPA center represents the intensions to revitalize a healthcare resort and furniture design recalls the glorious motives of metallurgy with an easiness of assembly for a workshop-toloka of citizens.

ENTRANCE BRIDG

WE PROPOSED THE CREATION OF A PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE BRIDGE, NOT ONLY AS A FUNCTIONAL PASSAGEWAY BUT ALSO AS A PROMINENT LANDMARK MARKING THE MAIN ENTRANCE. THIS STRIKING BRIDGE WOULD SERVE AS A GATEWAY TO THE SEASIDE AND AN ECOLOGICAL GARDEN WITHIN THE EXISTING WETLAND AREA. THIS INNOVATIVE ADDITION WOULD NOT ONLY ENHANCE ACCESSIBILITY BUT ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO THE AREA’S AESTHETICS AND ECOLOGICAL DIVERSITY.

THE INTRODUCTION OF 24-HOUR FUNCTION ZONES WILL ENHANCE THE LIVABILITY OF THE AREA. FOR INSTANCE, A BEACH SPORTS ARENA WITH A MOBILE STRUCTURE CAN ACCOMMODATE SPORTS ACTIVITIES DURING THE DAY AND TRANSFORM INTO A VENUE FOR MUSIC AND THEATER EVENTS DURING THE NIGHT.
