THE AMENITY

Cambridge Co-housing 2018|Academic|University of Waterloo|Individual Programs used: Rhino|Grasshopper| V-ray|Photoshop|InDesign

Every year an increasing number of students come to the city of Cambridge, Ontario, while many other aged between 18 to 30 move to bigger cities in search of a different life. As a result, a number of people end up apart from their family, without a close community to count on. Later, this lack of intimate society may snowball into the feeling of loneliness and depression. In order to alleviate this problem, one cannot simply locate people of different generations into any house where they simply walk from their closed studio homes into a big shared space, hoping this will create bonds between them. Instead of having a sudden transition from one’s private space to the communal area, we must create an array of spaces that realize the humans’ social life, being family, close friends, friends, colleagues, acquaintances and others.

MAPNA OFFICE BUILDING An installation in Isfahan

2018|Competition|Piramun Design Office|3rd Prize Contribution: Design|Visualization Programs used: Sketchup|3DsMax|V-ray|Photoshop

MAPNA is a renowned industrial group in Iran. Trying to construct an office building with some industrial facilities integrated within, they launched an architectural competition. In this project, we mixed the industrial identity of a factory with an office building to create a design that fits the multi-functional program of this project. The bottom half of this building caters to industrial needs and facilities, while the top half is tailored towards the employees, to provide decent lighting, views, and working spaces. To the right are the diagrams that explain different aspects of this design, factors, reasons and decisions.

PERTICAN OFFICE Sustainable Building in ISTT

2017|Professional|Econtext Design Office|Teamwork Contribution: Design Programs used: Rhino

Pertican Zero-Energy Office Building is a project designed in Isfahan’s Science & Technology Town. The special form of the site, the required program, and environmental issues were the main factors shaping this building. After the collaboration between a team of designers and simulation specialists, the best approach was taken to further reduce the energy consumption of this building. Considering that this office is only used during the day in a hot climate, cooling loads are significantly higher than heating loads. Additionally, an office needs a good amount of daylighting. In conclusion, the Pertican Office turned to a U-shaped building that maximizes crossventilation and daylighting.

TRAIN-ING CENTER

Kargar Science Center & Metro Station 2017|Academic|Art University of Isfahan|Individual Programs used: Rhino|Grasshopper|Arduino|3DsMax |V-Ray|Photoshop|Autocad

Kargar Science & Technology Train-ing Center is located in Isfahan, Iran, in a vehicle dominated area. However, taking advantage of its close proximity to the Isfahan University, and the consideration of a future metro station, as well as a town square, this project found its way to have 3 different layers. First layer tackled the issue of the university isolation in Iran. Trying to close the gap between the educated and the noneducated, through a science and technology center that welcomes all. Second layer is attending the often underused, vehicle dominated city squares by creating an urban plaza with underground access. And the third layer looks into the lack of constructible land in big cities with a goal of combining a train station, a science center and an urban plaza.

Train stations are generally long buildings, similar to the traditional Bazaar, and therefore can be combined with this particular typology to create a new design.

On top of this project, there is an urban plaza that allows the once vehicle-dominated square to be used by people for different activities, such as festivals, playing sports, or just simply hangind around. Taking advantage of the slope of the site, the project is below street level, and thus, is shielded from busy urban life. Moreover, avoiding the busy streets allows for incredibly better views.

THE WALL COMPRESSES AND EXPANDS Each workshop in this building boasts an interactive wall that reacts to the people walking against it. This structure is comprised of origami patterned lattices that come to life with the help of motors and sensors. Using an arduino, several servo motors, and infrared detectors, a prototype of this smart wall was built.

THE JOLFA CUBES

A Residential Complex in Isfahan 2016|Academic|Art University of Isfahan|Individual Programs used: Sketchup|Rhino|V-Ray|Photoshop|Autocad

The Jolfa Cubes is a residential project situated adjacent to the Niasarm stream in Jolfa neighborhood, Isfahan, Iran. This area is a historical region mainly inhabited by Armenians; however, nowadays most of them are moving away due to an array of problems, with financial difficulties being one of them. In this project, affordability, social interactions, and equality were the major concerns. The lives of the people from hot and arid climates are inseparable from yards. To that end, almost every unit has a yard of its own, sometimes with the possibility of growing their own tree. In addition, to allow for people with different priviliges to live in harmony next to one another, 4 block types were considered ranging from 70 sqm to 150 sqm.

THE URBAN VISAGE An Installation in Isfahan

2016|Design|Art University of Isfahan|Individual Programs used: Rhino|Grasshopper|After Effects|Photoshop

The Urban Visage is a cubic installation first initiated in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of new technologies in the act of design. However, it later developed to be something more, linking modernity with Isfahan’s cultural heritage. A prototype of this installation was built in Ali-Qapu’s Kingsroad for its proximity to numerous historic buildings. This project is comprised of a thousand distinct paper-thin ribbons, forming unique images from 8 different angles. Each of these images point to the building shown in the picture, making it an urban compass. This feature accompanied with AR technology can help boost the knowledge about these invaluable monuments.

SKETCHES

Truly learning a building Up to 2016|Hobby|Pen|Pencil

I have always liked to draw, kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and even high school. And that is what pushed me toward choosing architecture as my major in university. Back then I mainly designed characters and sometimes landscapes; however, after spending years in an architecture school, drawing buildings seemed a fun pastime activity as well. Looking at a building very carefully and then trying to pin down every detail on a piece of paper is a great way for me to learn about the design of a building. I have come to a realization that sketching is an inseparable and efficient part of my design process.

VISUALIZATIONS Stories through images

Up to 2018|V-ray|Photoshop

An architectural project might have many drawings to look at, meanwhile, that one image that conveys the feelings, the story and the essence of a design intrigues me the most.
