Q&A
with HA NNAH F ROM BLOSSIE
What inspired you to start your own business? “I got engaged (at the time living in New Zealand), and I was moving to Australia the next year. I booked all my suppliers for our wedding online, but I couldn’t find anything I liked for stationery. This led me to mucking around on Adobe programs and creating my own. While playing around I realised how much I enjoyed it, so I created an Instagram and it spiraled from there. Here I am - 2 years later!” What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else? “So many things inspire my work - colour, architecture, florals, the couples I work with! I think my communication sets me aside. I have heard from so many couples and vendors, that I work for that they’ve booked me or loved the process because I was able to communicate well with them and kept them at the core of every part of the process.” If you could go back to the beginning, knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

“Nothing! Honestly, I think making mistakes help you grow as a business and as a person. I don’t think it would be near as fun if I was handed everything from the beginning. There’s definitely self-satisfaction in knowing how I’ve grown and what I accomplished myself.”

BEAUTY
with OLIVIA JONE S MAK E UP What inspired you to start your own business? “It was just a natural progression, I fell into makeup as I love art, drawing, painting etc so I started doing makeups for family & friends and from there I thought I would love to work for myself, so I started my own business, Launceston’s first makeup studio.” What is your motivation–gets you up every morning and keeps you focused as a business owner? “Providing a service that makes clients happy and also providing a stable opportunity for my staff, who I really value.” What trends are you seeing in wedding beauty? “Our brides are leaning toward more natural, minimalist looks focusing a lot on the skin, to achieve that dewy glowing look.
Hand crafted specialty cakes, cookies and delicious sweets! A sweet touch - combine the place cards with your wedding favour - in the form of a yummy cookie emblazed with your guest name. find them on instagram

From snow-covered mountains to lush rainforests, fragrant lavender fields and sheltered sandy beaches; the diversity of landscapes in Tasmania’s north has to be seen to be believed. An abundance of delicious food and a dazzling choice of characterful venues make this corner of the state an appealing wedding destination. But there’s so much to see in the north and north west - sights and experiences that can’t be found anywhere else in the world - that you’ll definitely want to extend your stay. Take some time as a couple, or perhaps invite your family and friends along for the ride, as you delve into the best this unique region has to offer. THE NORTH WEST Tassie’s north west coast is where you’ll find delightful villages like Boat Harbour. Just a short drive from the coast-hugging main highway, this place is all about the beach. There are sparkling white sands, crystal clear water, and plenty of rockpools to explore. Best of all, if you visit outside of peak summer season you might find that you have the whole place to yourselves. Further west you’ll find Rocky Cape National Park, a beautiful reserve where striking cliff formations and displays of wildflowers make for great photo opportunities. It’s also worth keeping one eye on the sea - this is an ideal location for spotting whales during migration season. Keep heading west and you’ll reach the restored Bass Strait fishing town of Stanley. Consider booking an extra couple of nights accommodation before or after your wedding day so you have plenty of time to explore this beautiful spot. Stanley is hard to miss – the town is built around the sheer-sided remains of an ancient volcanic plug known as The Nut that’s visible for miles around. If you’re feeling energetic, you can climb to the top; but
the chairlift offers an easier and more relaxing option. Back down in the historic town centre, there are plenty of independent shops, galleries and cafes to discover. Beyond Stanley, the range of accommodation and services starts to tail off, but if you’re feeling adventurous it’s an outstanding place to connect with nature and each other – wilderness areas like the far north west are a popular choice for elopements. The Tarkine Wilderness area encompasses Australia’s largest area of temperate rainforest, rugged coasts, intricate cave systems, rivers, waterfalls and mountains. For a startling sense of perspective, there’s nothing like standing at The Edge of The World, feeling the wind on your face, and realising there’s nothing but 15,000 kilometres of open ocean between you and Patagonia. There are options for exploring the Tarkine on foot, by mountain bike, or kayak. Guided 4x4 tours, river cruises and scenic helicopter flights are also available. Whatever you choose, it’ll be a memorable experience in a truly unique environment.
13
CRADLE TO COAST If you’ve spent months planning the catering for your big day, you might be ready to take a break from thinking about food… but if you’ve still got an appetite then perhaps take a couple of days post-wedding to indulge in a tasting tour. Taking you right through the heart of the north-west’s farming country, the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail is a wonderful opportunity to sample fresh produce directly from the people who have made it – whether that’s artisan cheeses, plump berries, earthy truffles, or ethically raised free-range pork. Every mouthful tastes better when you know the story behind it. The ‘Cradle’ in Cradle to Coast is, of course, the iconic Cradle Mountain. One of the best loved and most visited landmarks in Tasmania, the dramatic and distinctive dolerite-peaked mountain sits within Cradle MountainLake St Clair National Park. There’s something to suit everyone here. For lovers of the outdoors, there are incredible alpine walks, native wildlife encounters, canyoning, kayaking, and horseriding. For those who enjoy a more relaxed approach, there are scenic helicopter rides, award-winning art, spa experiences, and plenty of good food and drink. Who says you need to venture further than that comfortable armchair right by the log fire? Cradle Mountain is also one of Tasmania’s best spots to enjoy snow. The sparkling, white-capped mountains and glacial lakes make a picture perfect backdrop to
14
any wedding. Snowfall is most common between July and September, but it’s an alpine environment and the weather can change quickly so it’s possible to get that winter wonderland feeling at any time of year. One icy blast blowing up from Antarctica and you could easily end up with a white wedding - even in the middle of summer! L AUNCESTON AND SURROUNDS Back down at sea level, and heading east to Launceston and surrounds, the landscape changes entirely. The city itself is a vibrant hub with a major focus on food, wine, arts and culture. It also has its own slice of wilderness-in-the-city, with the walking tracks and panoramic outlooks of Cataract Gorge just a short walk from the CBD. Surrounding the city, you’ll find a scattering of smaller, historic towns and villages, heritage estates, and quaint country lanes lined with hawthorn, poplar and elm trees. It’s no surprise then, that Launceston has become an increasingly popular wedding destination in recent years, especially for Hobart couples looking for a change of scene. Launceston sits on the banks of the Tamar River, leaving it well positioned as the gateway to the Tamar Valley wine producing region. There are more than 30 wineries within driving distance in the valley, many of them internationally recognised award-winners. Winery weddings hold a lot of
romantic appeal – not to mention a ready supply of bubbles to accompany your speeches – so an elegant cellar door venue is an option worth considering. The scenery in and around the Tamar Valley is a delight, with vineyards tucked up against orchards, forests and pastures. It’s also where you’ll find some of the best sunrises and sunsets in the entire state. For something special, consider a hot air balloon flight over the valley at sunrise. There are a number of different take-off locations to provide unparalleled views of the farmland, wineries and meandering river curves.

REAL WEDDINGS

CAITLIN + DYLAN Caitlyn and Dylan were married at Waterton Hall, a majestic homestead encompasing sweeping vineyards and outbuildings perched on the Tamar River, near Launceston. This historic property and winery is a photographic dream; with vineyard & circular lawn views to the water, waterside rustic boatshed & deck, restored 1850s heritage stone barn, historic garden & breathtaking manor house overlooking all. In addition they produce award winning wines, which were a part of the wedding package! Like many weddings during this time, this was not the first date chosen, so Caitlin and Dylan were well and truly ready when their wedding day finally came around! A sprinkling of rain in the first moments of the ceremony had everyone running for cover, but they were able to proceed without much of a wait and the rest of the day was perfect. “The most magical moment for us both was the aisle, and actually seeing each other for the first time that day. All of a sudden, it’s as though everyone disappears - cliche, I
know. This moment was when it all became truly real, and we were ready.” There were countless special moments but the first was the arrival of Caitlin’s brothers, who got ready in the same venue as the girls. They were to drive Caitlin and her bridesmaids to the wedding, so were a special addition to the traditional bridal party. Stand out vendors were the Foley Artists, who “played during our ceremony, and then kept us dancing all night with their energy and fantastic DJ skills! No-one wanted the night to end” and Hannah from Blossie who created all the signage. “Hannah was so lovely to work with, with her guidance and expertise in stunning signage and invitations.” The reception was held in the old barn which was decked out in classic styling, black bentwoods, grey tablecloths and beautiful florals by Murphy Bloom which had Caitlin in awe of her arrangements. “We weren’t sure what we wanted, we only had a colour palette, however what she created was truly magical.” continued page 22

The MC, Mal, delivered funny moments “Each time she wanted to get the attention of the guests, she played Ring of Fire, and had organised three guests to play instruments to the song! It was hilarious.” The speeches by fathers, Maid of Honour (my sister) and Best Man (Dyl’s brother) were the right amount of love and humour. “Our guests were thoroughly entertained.” The bride and groom’s first dance to “Simply the Best” was followed by the father and daughter dance. Caitlin says her most special moment was “well and truly, the entire day. It’s hard to pin point moments, as the day was truly what we dreamed of having. Every vendor, every guest, every part - it all just worked.” Special mention by Caitlin and Dylan: “stand outs for the show were Doxa Visual, our photographers. Jon and Jac, who make up Doxa, are real life legends! They are experts with a lense and have such a friendly nature, we never felt posed or fake. To be honest, we didn’t even realise they were there at times! Our photos are much more than we could have every expected.”

CASSIE + AMANDA
A wintery wedding wonderland for Cassie and Amanda! After 10 years together it was time for these two to make it official. They chose an elopement to Cradle Mountain Lodge and picked the perfect date for a snowy wedding! Tracy at Pop Up Weddings organised all the bookings which was a dream come true for Cassie and Amanda. The intimate elopement was booked for a cozy cabin. Kristy L was the photographer and hair and make up was done by Kat at Big Tease and they stepped in as the official witnesses. Cassie says: “They were our witnesses and were lovely and made the whole day relaxed and fun.” Cassie wore a floaty Wendy Makin dress, with beautiful lace and beaded overlay. For some extra warmth, an Unreal Fur Jacket and some cute snowflake looking earrings by Each to Own.
Amanda was fabulous in a sequin black jacket by Anine Bing. Who would have guessed what an amazing combo sequins and snowflakes would be? Cassie and Amanda’s favourite part about the day was “by far the snow, which was so magical - there was a gentle snowfall during our ceremony and when we had our photos taken. It made the day feel extra special and romantic- a cozy cabin wedding in the mountains.” After a photo shoot in the woods, the couple warmed up with a special feast and beautiful wedding cake to complete their magical day.

“We’re eloping!” It’s a sentence that strikes fear into the heart of many a mother, father and inlaw. But, for the bride and groom, an elopement can mean freedom, less stress and more intimacy. At Isle Weddings, we can’t think of a more idyllic location for an elopement than Tasmania (although we might be a little biased) and with many AirBnb’s offering wedding services or blank canvas locations we thought now was the best time to highlight our favourite AirBnbs for a Tasmanian elopement. Whether you are looking for a beachside location to capture your nautical nuptials or something a little more rustic we’ve highlighted our favourite AirBnb’s for your intimate exchange of vows.

HANNAH + JOEL After their engagement in early 2020 Hannah and Joel began to look around Hobart, their home city, for a venue to marry in. After a forced break from wedding planning thanks to Covid, they searched further afield, and decided on a wedding at Scottsdale, in Tasmania’s North East, where Hannah grew up. “As soon as we stepped into the Scottsdale Mechanic’s Institute Hall we knew it was where we wanted to be married, as it ticked our boxes for a simple, stress-free occasion. The Mechanic’s Hall is run by a committee of volunteers who could not have been more helpful. The hall was so beautifully restored and had everything we needed – chairs, tables and a kitchen on site. We applied only a minimum of decoration.” Greg Munro officiated at the wedding. He is the minister at the church where Hannah grew up in Scottsdale. They also loved having friends from their church in Hobart play music for the service. Hannah and Joel wanted an easy, stress-free wedding without too much fuss. Hannah did her own makeup and
also that of her sisters. Her mum made the wedding dress and as a special touch embroidered the wedding date on the inside hem.. The Ceremony transformed into a lunch reception with the help of some friends who moved the chairs to the edge of the room. The tables with their homemade table cloths of gingham gave a vintage touch. The hall already had decorative lights installed and the family had hung some homemade bunting that has also been used at Hannah’s sister’s wedding. Special mention to Jess: “We are so thrilled with our photographer Jess Oakenfull. She was so lovely and she made us both feel so calm and comfortable to be ourselves. Jess works so softly and smoothly we hardly noticed she was around, and we were so delighted to have her capture the joy of our day. Our videographer, Andrew Walton was likewise so great to work with and was able to capture very special memories of our special day through a highlight video.”

ASH + ADELE It was the second wedding that Ash & Adele had to plan, thanks to Covid, but this time it was even better than they had hoped. Lisa from Artaud & Co stepped in as their wedding planner. They “knew it was meant to be after searching new planners and seeing Artaud & Co pop up. Not only were they exactly what we wanted, Lisa also only had two spots left, and one was exactly the date we wanted! After about 6 months of remote planning we had our dream day locked in and we could not wait.” Vaucluse Estate was the beautiful setting for their garden wedding. “We were one of the first to have our wedding there and because we had a micro wedding, it meant that almost all of our guests were able to stay on site the night of the wedding.” “We spent the night before in separate parts of the estate to ensure we didn’t see one another until the first look. Adele spent the morning getting dolled up by Liv Rodgers and Ben O’Brien who made sure our Mum’s and her best friend were looking and feeling their best too. Ash spent the morning with his brother, Sean, getting ready and enjoying some drinks together.” The guests were treated to a tour of the historic estate on arrival before making their way down to the gardens for the ceremony.
In the meantime Ash and Adele shared their first look at each other on their wedding day. “This was our favourite part of the day and was such a beautiful experience. Adele walked down to meet Ash in the gardens, where it was just us two and Jon and Jac from Doxa Visual capturing the best part of the day.” “An hour later, the ceremony starts and Rachael Calvert our celebrant, takes us through the most wonderful ceremony. Starting with an acknowledgment to the traditional owners of the land, making us laugh and cry with stories of our friends and family and those we’ve lost, reminding us again of how lucky we are to have one another and just how special this day is.” Cocktail hour kicked off by the amazing food from Hubert + Dan, followed by a multiple course feast and dessert bar. Adele and Ash exclaim: “Seriously, some of the best food we have ever had! Everyone was raving about it.” “Every single one of our vendors was amazing. We had no hiccups during the day and it truly was magical. We catch ourselves asking one another if we can do it all over again! Plus having a wedding in the middle of a pandemic is an experience we will never forget and something not many were able to do. We were fortunate enough to have all our guests fly in from over Australia in between lockdowns. Luck was really on our side for this day!”

RACHEL + JASON Rachel and Jason who live in Hobart but returned to the place of their childhoods for their wedding day. Sandridge Estate at Boat Harbour was the perfect location, with an open air “chapel” in the middle of the bush for the ceremony and a rustic barn for the reception. The day before the wedding was a whirlwind of activity as parents and friends all banded together to set up the pieces that the couple had made and sourced. Both Rachel and Jason are creatives with an eye for detail, and they had enjoyed planning every moment of their special day together. Rachel designed and created stationery and the signage, invitations, guest name tags with individual messages, table numbers, menus and a drinks list on arch backdrop boards positioned at the ceremony and in the barn that evening. Rach’s dad made timber boxes from old fence palings, which were used for flower confetti, as stands on the grazing table and to house large vases of flowers. Other homemade touches were the native flowers, picked from Jason’s parents garden, a white streamer installation hanging over the dance floor and coloured shoe laces for the groomsmen!
It was a cold and windy “summer” Tassie day and moments before Rachel was to walk down the aisle the heavens opened... “imagine sideways rain and chairs and flower confetti blowing all over” says Rachel. Nobody’s spirits were dampened! Towels were produced to wipe down the chairs, guests immerged from the cover of gum trees and Rachel was walked down the aisle by her Dad. “The ceremony was filled with love and laughter and celebrant Kathleen Ryan was amazing!! (honestly.. the best). Not even the mid-ceremony shower of rain could wipe the smile off our faces.” Rach and Jason had secretly selected their mother’s to be their witnesses - a little gold star sticker was placed on the front of their chair pre-ceremony. Kathleen asked guests to check their chairs to see if they were the lucky selected witnesses - the mum’s were so surprised! “We were showered in eco-friendly flower confetti, purchased through local company Sweet Nothings Event Hire. Florist Carolyn from Found in Earth hit the rustic, colourful brief. Bouquets, button holes, and ceremony arbour arrangements were a combo of gum, continued page 62

rusty magnolia leaf, pink proteas, kangaroo paw, blush roses, peachy carnations - tied in hand dyed silk ribbon.” Photographer Ali Davis was there to capture the entire day. Jason and Rach met Ali in a pub in Hobart and instantly loved his relaxed personality. He too loved the NW Coast so headed up from Hobart to shoot the day. Photos captured the stunning bush setting of Sandridge Estate, nearby coastal paddocks (Jase grew up on a dairy farm so it was fitting), and rugged coastline near Boat Harbour beach. “Ali captured it perfectly - even the windswept pics (it was sooooooo windy!!!!) are perfect to us.” Guests mingled on the sunny afternoon deck with drinks and an epic grazing table by caterers and close friends at PW Catering, before moving into the barn for the evening. To kick off the celebrations, we cut the cake as we entered the reception. “Life’s short.. eat cake first!!!” Guests loved the three tier Chocolate and White Chocolate and Raspberry mud cake made by ‘Kelly Bakes Cakes’. Making a conscious effort to source local food and drinks Jason and Rachel had enlisted their friends Paul & Sara from PW Catering to cook an amazing feast - smoked meats, vegetables, side dishes and condiments. Tassie beers and Tassie wines were flowing all night. “Our favourite part of the night were the speeches - full belly laughter, a few tears and genuine happiness.” The party was started by local five piece band ‘Wavelet’. “They were honestly soooo good!! Everyone was on the dance floor - young and old dancing and singing their hearts out. We were so lucky with timing as dance floor restrictions had lifted only 1 month before!”

Suspended over the dance floor was the huge hanging streamer installation created by Jason, Rach, and their parents. Rachel remarks “nothing like quality family bonding time whilst cutting streamers late at night leading up to the wedding!” “Unfortunatley COVID-19 restrictions meant that we had many family and friends who were in NSW & QLD couldn’t come to Tassie to celebrate with us in person. The ceremony was livestreamed via LoveCast App - guest could watch the ceremony live, leave messages and throw virtual confetti.” In the lead up to the wedding Jason’s best man, his brother, was living interstate, so Jason organised a lifesized cardboard cut-out of Luke just in case he wasn’t able to be there on the day! But Luke made it to the wedding and so there was moments of hilarity when the cardboard cut out made an appearance on the dance floor later in the evening. Guests lounged by the large open fire, giant pot belly stove, outdoor fire pots and danced before finally rolling out of the barn to their tents and caravans. “Part of the reason we loved Sandridge Estate so much was the ability to accommodate everyone on site like a mini festival!!” Everyone made the most of the weekend. The bridal party were staying in luxury in the Glamping tents provided by Sandridge Estate. “The next day we did a breakfast cook up before packing down the shed - and finding the freezer full of 100-odd icecreams meant to eaten as a late night dance floor snack!” “Our day was a magical, relaxed and memorable. Having a room full of our favourite people and seeing the happiness on our loved ones faces was unforgettable. It honestly was the best day of our lives.”

DIMITY + AARON
Dimity and Aaron had the first wedding date set for the end of March 2020 when Covid hit and all plans were thrown out the window! It was a stressful month up to the wedding date, with their two kids eagerly looking forward to the day, but no one really sure what was going to happen. A few days out from their wedding, Government restrictions meant that only 5 people could attend - not even their children would be there if they went ahead! There was no choice but to postpone. This was a family wedding as Dimity says: “To them, this was “Our Wedding”. The children would often ask us “How long until our wedding?” Finally it was 10 months until Dimity and Aaron could tie the knot! “It was the best feeling once we walked down the aisle after being husband and wife and I remember so
clearly bursting into tears saying “We did it!” It was such a relief!” Dimity’s favourite touch was the use of plaid in some of the accessories. “My husband is known to rock a flannie every day, rain, hail or shine and there was quite a bit of talk about if he would be wearing his beloved flannie or not. We had little touches of flannie in the boy’s bowties and my boots were covered in the same flannie material.” Special shout out to Aaron’s mum who took care of all the floral pieces and helped to create a bohemian vibe at the amazing venue of Highfield House. The couple were married in front of a sweet tepee with the majestic Stanley Nut in the background.
