The following table sets out the new classifications for Johnes Disease in respect of those herds belonging to a CHeCS approved Herd Health Scheme:STATUS

DEFINITION

Level 1:

This is directly equivalent to the previous CheCS Accredited free status. Level 1 status is associated with the lowest risk source when buying in stock. Health plan required.

Level 2:

Herds with Level 2 status have had one or two clear consecutive herd tests. Health plan required.

Level 3:

Herds with Level 3 status have reactors identified at the annual herd test, but these are no more than 3% of the animals tested. Health plan required.

Level 4:

Herds with Level 4 status have reactors identified at the annual herd test, and these amount to more than 3% of the animals tested. Health plan required.

Level 5:

Any herd that is not carrying out the required testing or does not have a suitable health plan in place automatically falls into this category. Level 5 status is considered to be the greatest risk source when buying in stock.

General Information & Sale Notes LOCATION: The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The market is on the left hand side of the road within 1 /4 mile of M6. Timetable of Events:- Thursday 25th February

CONDITIONS OF SALE: Sale is held subject to the Conditions of Sale and Sale Regulations of the Hereford Cattle Society and the Auctioneers’ General Conditions of Sale, both available on request. INSURANCE: A representative of the H&H Insurance Brokers, will be present at the sale and will be pleased to quote Purchasers for transit and other risks. METHOD OF SALE: All cattle will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers. REGISTRATIONS: All stock in the Sale are registered with the Hereford Cattle Society, PEDIGREE TRANSFERS: Official Pedigree Transfers will be effected by the Auctioneers and the Hereford Cattle Society as soon as possible after the Sale. Full Pedigrees will be transferred to all members, and the fee is payable by the vendor. SETTLEMENT AND CLEARANCE OF STOCK: Settlement in full is due immediately at the close of Sale. No animal may leave the Sale Premises without an official ‘Pass Slip’, obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement. ANIMAL WELFARE: Vendors and Purchasers should note the CODE OF PRACTICE published by the Livestock Auctioneers’ Market Committee for England and Wales IS OPERATIVE IN BORDERWAY MART and that weakly, unhealthy or injured stock will be refused entry by the Auctioneers. Enquiries should be directed through the market office to the Auctioneers’ ANIMAL HEALTH & WELFARE OFFICER (Mr Andrew Templeton).

Important Notice to Vendors SIGNET RECORDED/BREEDPLAN WEIGHTS & HEIGHTS - All bulls will be weighed by Officials and the Official weights will be displayed above each pen. All Bulls entered for the Sale, MUST BE ADEQUATELY TRAINED TO LEAD BY HALTER and must be provided with a serviceable halter, which will become the property of the purchaser. TATTOO MARKS/UK TAGS - All cattle entered for the Sale will have their tatoo marks/ UK Tags examined. Any marks found to have faulty, incorrect or illegible marks will be REJECTED from the Sale. Vendors are therefore urged, in their own best interests, to examine the tattoo marks of Sale cattle before the animal(s) leave their farm, so that faulty marks can be rectified in accordance with the required Society procedures. All animals will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and a commission of 5% will be charged by the Auctioneers on all sales. No animals may be sold privately before being passed through the Auction Ring and FULL COMMISSION will be charged on the sale of any animal sold by private treaty after the auction. All such transactions MUST BE PASSED THROUGH THE AUCTIONEERS’ OFFICE.

DNA Tested (SV) BARWISE 1 LODESTONE carries good EBV figures particularly for calving as he is in the top 1% for calving ease, top 20% calving ease for daughters, top 5% for short gestation length and top 10% for birth weight (lighter calves), scrotal size top 5%.

DNA Tested (PV) ROMANY 1 MAJOR H12 M8 is a long, clean, well built bull with a great pedigree. He won Reserve Junior Male Champion National Poll Show Sept 2015 and was member of the winning pair Agri Expo Nov. Romany 1 Heavyduty (sire) is leaving some tremendous cattle in the herd that grow well and are correct. Romany 1 Julia (dam) is an outstanding cow who has bred well for the herd including 5 progeny in other herds. Major carries some outstanding EBVs.

DNA Tested (SV) ROMANY 1 MANDATE D1 M51 is a thick, fleshy well grown bull by former UK Sire of the Year SMH Castro(P). He exudes length, style and easy fleshing, just like his sire and dam. A maternal sister was retained in the herd and is doing a good job of her calf. Romany 1 Dawn (dam) is a powerful cow with great udder structure and teat size, she is much admired by all who see her.

DNA Tested (PV) ROMANY 1 MANAGER D1 M63 won Scottish National Male Champion 2015 while still on his dam, herself a two times Royal Highland Show Female Champion. Manager is a good thick bull with great growth for his age, a fact backed up by his performance figures. SMH Castro (sire) was UK Sire of the Year in 2014 and has sired some tremendous females within the herd. A full brother was exported to Germany and a full sister was top price Hereford Spring Show and Sale 2014.
