• Excessive dirty vehicles will not be allowed entry, therefore ensure vehicle is clean before arrival.
• All vehicles transporting livestock will be subject to a documentation check before entry to market site.
• All visitors and traders must ensure they wear clean clothing and footwear before entering market site.
• All visitors and traders using car park areas please use main entrance.
• All persons delivering livestock to mart must park on the hardcore area at the back of the site and then proceed along the designated route to the biosecurity control next to the supervisors office.
• Hauliers and farmers delivering livestock must disinfect their boots before and after loading or unloading.
• Livestock purchased or unsold will not be allowed to move unless an authorised “pass slip” has been issued by the main office.
• No livestock will be allowed to remain on the premises after a sale.
• Only staff, livestock hauliers, owners or their agents are permitted to load or unload livestock.
• Wash hands thoroughly when leaving livestock pennage areas.

NON LIABILITY CLAUSE: the auctioneers nor any of their servants, will be responsible for any injury or damage to persons or property, however caused. The attention of vendors and exhibitors is drawn to the need to take great care of stock and equipment. Although security personnel are employed and every effort is made to protect property, the organisers take no responsibility for any loss.

All cattle must be accompanied by the relevant movement license and the relevant signed passport.
All sheep must be accompanied by the relevant movement license and all MV Accredited Sheep must be accompanied by an official MV certificate. All paperwork to be handed into the auctioneers on arrival at the market.

CONDITIONS OF SALE
All stock will be sold subject to the Auctioneers General Conditions of Sale, printed in this catalogue. Sheep will be sold subject to the Conditions of Sale for Breeding Sheep as approved by the Livestock Auctioneers Association. Cattle will be sold subject to the Special Terms and Conditions of Sale recommended by the National Cattle Breeders Association. No animal may be sold privately prior to the sale but must pass through the sale ring. The sale of substitute animals is NOT PERMITTED.
Animals which fail to reach the ‘reserve price’ may be sold by private treaty after the auction. Full commission will be charged on all such transactions which MUST BE conducted through the auctioneer.
SETTLEMENT: Settlement in full for stock purchased is due to the auctioneers immediately at the close of sale. Prospective purchasers, who are not known to the auctioneer, are asked to provide details of their ability to pay before bidding.
CLEARANCE OF STOCK:
No animal shall be removed from the sale premises without an official PASS obtainable only from the auctioneers upon settlement or application, and such pass MUST be presented to the auctioneers before loading.
Neither the Rare Breeds Survival Trust nor the auctioneer accepts responsibility for stock after it has passed through the auction ring. Whilst the auctioneers will endeavour to assist in the correct trucking of sold animals, purchasers are reminded that all risks in respect of such animals pass to them at the fall of the hammer. Purchasers are entirely responsible for any costs or expenses which may arise due to the wrongful or incorrect locating, trucking or removal of stock, and they shall be liable for all costs of returning such stock to its proper destination.
All livestock entries must be identifiable by ear tag, brand or tattoo which must correspond with the catalogue entry. Any animal not so identifiable will be REJECTED from the sale. Under no circumstances will substitute animals be allowed into the sale.
INSPECTION: All entries will be inspected for general health, soundness and freedom from defects. Certain breed societies may appoint officials to inspect entries for breed type and/or genetic or other defects or deformities. In all cases the right is reserved to reject any animal which does not conform to the accepted standards and the decision of the Inspector(s) is final. Animals so rejected must be removed from the sale area forthwith, at the vendor’s expense and will not be permitted to be sold.
BUYERS PREMIUM: A buyer’s premium of 5% plus VAT will be added to the purchaser’s account.
COMMISSION: Cattle, sheep and pigs will be sold in pounds and the auctioneers will charge a commission of 5% on the sale price realised.
In the event of any animal(s) failing to reach the minimum Selling Price, Upset Price or Reserve Price (if any) fixed by the vendor, half commission will be charged on the said price.
This sale is licensed and authorised by the appropriate local authority and by DEFRA and will be organised and conducted strictly in accordance with the regulations and special requirements of those bodies.
All stock is to be removed from the sale premises on the day of sale, unless prior arrangement is made with the auctioneers.
A limited amount of straw bedding will be provided by the auctioneers free of charge. Additional straw may be purchased, if required. All vendors must provide their own feedstuffs and drinking utensils.

Inspection: All cattle forward for the sale will be inspected prior to the show. Animals which do not conform to the Breed Standard, or which have a serious fault will not be eligible for the Show, but will be sold in catalogue order. This will be identified by a red dot on the lot ticket number and the reason will be announced by the auctioneer as the animal enters the sale ring. Any animals showing symptoms of infectious or contagious diseases will be removed from the lines and will not be allowed to be sold.
Conditions of Sale: All registered cattle will be offered for sale subject to the terms and conditions of sale recommended by the National Beef Association. A copy of these terms and conditions will be displayed at the sale premises and will be available in booklet form for vendors and purchasers who may require them at the sale.
Method of Sale: All cattle will be sold in strictly catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers.
Transfers: If the purchaser requires official transfer of the pedigree, the Society Transfer fee of £10 (+VAT) will be added to the purchasers account and paid to the Society. Pedigree certificates will be retained by the Society for processing of transfer and forwarded to the purchaser after the sale.

• Dexter cattle are a compact and hardy breed given adequate shelter will stay out all year round
• Being truly dual purpose they are equally good at producing milk and beef
• Dexter beef is traditionally matured with excellent eating quality as recently seen on TV. Small, fine grained, well marbled joints are perfect for today’s consumer.
• On a small scale enterprise two Dexters can be kept for the cost of a larger animal—thus ensuring fresh milk and beef all year round.
• Dexters make excellent mothers calving easily they will breed regularly for 14 years and more. Dexters can adapt to extreme climatic conditions and have been exported to all corners of the world.

All sheep entered for the sale will be inspected by inspectors appointed by the Society. Any sheep found not meeting breed or health standards, and not tagged with the correct numbers will be rejected.
Rejected sheep will be identified with a purple mark on the top of the head. The vendor will be asked to remove the said sheep from the sale yard prior to the sale commencing. The auctioneer will not be permitted to sell such sheep.
The inspector’s decision is final; purchasers are advised to do their own.
The Vendor must ensure that all sheep entered for the sale are registered with the Kerry Hill Flock Book Society.

• Markings – The sheep should have a black and white face, odd spot on face acceptable considering the breed. Legs should be black and white.
• Ears – Black, Black and White or White. Medium length, set high, free from wool.
• Neck – Strong and muscular, well set into the shoulders.
• Throat – Nicely curved and woolled, with no loose skin.
• Teeth – Not overshot or undershot. Incisor teeth must bite fully underneath dental pad.
• Horns – Can occur genetically – but not desirable.
• Ribs – Deep and well sprung, with good heart girth.
• Back – Strong, level, firm to handle, wide loin, with plenty of length from hip bone to tail.
• Hind Quarters – Wide and deep, well fleshed to the hocks.
• Tail – Hock length is the breed standard. Well set on, strong dock, free from dark or blue spots.
• Front Legs – well set, with strong bone, enough width but straight, clear of wool.
• Rear Legs – Plenty of width, clear of wool – Must not be Cow, Sickle or Turkey Hocked.
• Front and Rear Feet – Excessive length on joints is undesirable. Short strong joints can carry weight. Welltrimmed feet.
• Skin – Pink or red, free from black/blue spots or tint.
• Wool – A white dense quality fleece free from kemp. Should be clean, a small amount of black is acceptable but undesirable, if very black the sheep should be rejected.
• Bone Male – Enough bone for the scale of the sheep not fine and spindly.
• Bone Female – Not too fine but not too much bone.
• Neither - Should be weak behind the shoulder.
• Males Testicles – The same size and wool free. Must be sound underneath.
• Females Udder etc – Must be sound unless declared otherwise at shows or sales.
• Carriage – The sheep should meet one boldly, standing square, must walk freely not lame or stiff.

SHOW AND SALE CONDITIONS
PRE-SALE INSPECTIONS
1. All Vendors will be deemed to agree with these conditions of entry upon signature of the official entry form
2. All livestock entries must be identifiable by ear tag, adhering to current DEFRA regulations, which must correspond with the catalogue entry. Any animal not so identifiable will be REJECTED from the sale. Under no circumstances will substitute animals be allowed into the Show & Sale.
3. ALL SHEEP MUST BE INSPECTED PRIOR TO SHOW OR SALE. Any animal not inspected prior to show or sale will NOT be eligible to enter the show or be sold through the sale ring.
INSPECTIONS
4. ALL sheep will be inspected by two qualified Shetland Sheep Society inspectors. The sheep will be inspected against the following points Testicles/ Udder, Teeth (all teeth must be under the pad at time of inspection), Tail, Fleece, Conformation, and Horns if applicable. (Horns may be deemed a fault in the event that they are, or may become a welfare issue).
5. The vendor/owner should be present at the inspection and has the right to dispute any decision made by the inspectors. Any vendor/owner wishing to dispute a decision on an inspection must do it right away. In the event of a dispute a third inspector will be brought in and their decision will be final.
6. Adult sheep inspection pass: An orange-coloured card will be issued stating the sheep’s ear tag number and sale lot number. The sheep will be eligible for the show and sale.
7. Adult sheep inspection fail: If an adult sheep has a failure against one or more of the inspection points a white card will be issued stating the sheep’s ear tag number, sale lot number and point(s) the sheep has failed. This sheep will be eligible for the sale only.
8. Lamb pass: Same as condition 7 above
9. Monitored Lamb: Lambs that have not passed the inspection will be classed as ‘lambs to monitor’ and issued with a lilac-coloured card. The card will state the lambs ear tag number, sale lot number and point(s) requiring to be monitored as the lamb matures. This sheep will be eligible for the sale only.
10. If a sheep is deemed to have genetic defects or deformities this animal will be rejected by the Shetland Sheep society and will not be sold within the Shetland Sheep Society pedigree sale. Borderway Auction Mart will sell any rejected sheep under normal mart conditions outside of the Society sale.

11. Only sheep that have an orange-coloured card are eligible to enter any of the show classes. The vendor/owner must produce the orange-coloured card for their sheep before entering the show ring.
12. Showing to be restricted to 2 sheep per vendor/owner per class.
13. Vendors/owners wishing to show must arrive at the auction mart at least 2hrs prior to show time to allow for inspections to be completed. A sheep is not eligible to enter the Show unless it has been inspected.
