Association Sale Rules 2025

1. The Sale is confined to Crowned Ewes, Gimmer Shearlings & Gimmer Lambs, the property of Registered Members of the Swaledale Sheep Breeders' Association.

2. All ewes to be in lamb to a Registered Swaledale Ram.

3. The Association reserves the right to limit numbers if over subscribed.

4. All sheep to be scanned on arrival and prior sale. The scanner will be in attendance between 3pm and 4pm. Any ewes scanned barren, with dead or malformed lambs to be withdrawn. The Association gives no guarantee that the ewes will lamb, or produce live lambs.

5. Any sheep not scanned on the day of the sale will not be allowed to be sold through the ring at this sale. This to be strictly adhered to.

6. The Association does not guarantee that all entries will be forward.

7. All sheep to pass through the sale ring. No sheep allowed to be sold privately unless it has already passed through the sale ring. All private sales on the premises must be booked through the Mart.

8. Sale numbers on all sheep must correspond with Ear tag numbers or Purchasers will have the right to annul the sale. This to apply before the animal leaves the Mart. The Vendor to be responsible to see that the catalogue information is correct and that any inaccuracies be announced at the time of sale.

9. All ewes sold as correct in mouth and udder unless otherwise stated at time of sale. The purchaser must inform the Association of unsoundness before removing the sheep from the Mart.

10. All entries to be received by the date stated on the Entry Form or will not be accepted.

11. All prize winning animals to be bona-fide sold in the ring, or if unsold and subsequently booked in as a Private Sale the price must be no less than the final bid price, or the prize will revert to the next animal placed by the Judges.

12. All sheep to be paid for to Harrison & Hetherington Ltd. before leaving the Mart.

13 Sheep – 5.25p in the £ commission will be charged if sold, of which 1p in the £ is for the Association. Flock Books – 17.5p in the £ commission will be charged if sold, of which 2.5p in the £ is for the Association

14 The Ballot for Sheep will be drawn on the day. Flock Books will be sold as catalogued

15. The use of “Substitutes” for entered sheep is to be allowed at this sale, provided all details of the substitute sheep are lodged with the Auction Mart and displayed on the Vendor’s pen.

16 Sale at 5.00 p.m. All sheep to be penned by 4.00 p.m.
