who is Nina Nina is a “pupetta” and was born from pieces of cloth: her body is made of

natural hemp fabric, cloak of

red wool & her face sown in black cotton. Almost

invisible to many, she’s sometimes filled with sweet melancholy without knowing why, other times she’s exuberant, or plays lazily with her precious little pearls, or dances the “Twist” with reels of cotton.

Nina moves around, exploring Inside and Out, observing and reflecting. She asks questions bigger

than herself (she’s only

biscuit size...),

somewhere.

Nina exists only if you see her, and not everyone can.

questions forgotten

Nina hasn’t a precise age..do you actually know how old is Pinocchio or the Little Prince?...Well, “time”

exists in different ways: a tiny bud lightly sprouting, a dry leaf becaming a little sculpture, the white light in the morning of a new born day, the darkness of the night looking like a cobalt blue mantle, or the objects but above all the creature-objects Nina meets here and there: Mrs. Ladybird, Mr. Button, Mrs. Red Berry, Lady Broach, Mr. Robin, Miss Pearls... everything that surrounds here, become alive.

Nina often go out from her sewing basket and gets in the so-called “LITTLE RAG BOOKS” Here she becomes illustration and the graphic character of poetic tales. Nina moves

gracefully and ironic elegance

throught the soft pages. She’s naturally fascinated by those tiny little light things and she do not like perfection. The pages are cut and made up by hand, and what happens sometimes is that the thread decides to free itself and slip through our hands

as the story unfolds....

or might be NINA saying she’s here.

the “Little Rag Books” The “Little Rag Books of Nina” looks like a bunch of printed pages made of natural cotton, slightly scented with almond and rose. They have been called “litlle artist books” o “silent books”, the thing is..they look so nice to look at and above all to hold them in the hand and unfold the pages. (dimension: 11cmx10cm)

the pages Every Rag Book is made of 8 squared pages in which are printed the illustrations of the stories. Most of them have no words..but sometimes a voice-over talk to her.

Nina’s hiding behing the button!

the packaging Is a paperboard pocket designed to protect the precious object, and which allows to see the cute printed cotton pattern of the little spine. You can hang it on the wall as the pocket is supplied with a pretty macramĂŠ lace. On the back side is printed the story of Nina.

..and the little label Each Rag Book have a little cotton label to write a short dedication.

Eloise Morandi is the designer and author on NINA. She was born in London in 1974, and at 60 days of age her mum and dad carry her back to Italy. She start working as marketing assistan for an important Firm. At 26 years old, on a Friday of september she began everything again: she reaches Milan and graduates by the Scuola Polictenica di Design. International designers like Gio Ponti, Max Huber, Pino Tovaglia, Isao Hosoe and Bruno Munari have all taught at SPD. This particular teacher has deeply inflluenced her. She examine closely his poetic approach to work, communication, and his inspiration to art and design. In this background the idea of NINA become project. Eloise gives life to a piece of fabric which becomes character represented by a minimal sign, inspirated by Nature and sometimes schrouded in an atmosphere of non-sense and english humour. The techniques used by Eloise to visualize NINA, are: collages, scansions, watercolours, needle and yarn, cut out paper, graphic design and hand-sketch of course. She has worked with imporant Communications Angecies. Now she collaborate with the studio which develope Antonio Marras and Kenzo’s artistic direction/communication. The “Little Rag’s books of Nina” and other creations are exposed by L-Hub, a new concept lab-showroom in Milan. In 2010 Nina is going to explore new circuits like fashion, video and design.
