At any moment 33,000 people are watching porn. Whether
it be through television, magazines, or the good ol internet 12 percent of the population is feeling it. Over 30 percent of data transferred through the internet is made up of pornography. That’s awesome. Of that 30 percent is a growing group of women and men who have their own webcam service. The adult entertainment industry is booming and with the aid of the internet it is becoming more readily availible for the viewer. In a recent poll only 12% of American’s actually admit to watching porn, but lets face it. Once that tape of Kim and Ray-J released, everyone googled that shit. Porn is essential and everyone has watched it at some point in their life. And we say, fuck it. Why not? People are allowed to kill them selves with liqour and porn is the thing people look down on? The thing is people live off the adult industry and it is more important to others than it is to most. So to get a better grasp on the topic. We interviewed a cam-girl named Luxie. This is Luxie. Shes a 23 year old adult entertainer who has been camming for the last three years and works for several different websites. I’ve been camming for about 3 years, it’s been a really interesting experience. How did you get into the camgirl business? Back when I was 18 I started shooting for a softcore porn site, Godsgirls.com. It’s kinda similar to Suicide Girls but less crazy with the modeling contract. I was in my first year of college and it seemed like something fun I could do, I thought maybe I’d never be a mainstream model but I could be an “alternative” model. When I was younger I always thought I was so weird looking, not white enough or anything to be part of the “ideal.” The owner of Godsgirls linked up with the owner of a cam site and started recruiting girls from Godsgirls to cam there, it was a rad way to sort of merge audiences. We had Godsgirls members going over to the cam site so they could interact with their favorite girls, it was cool. It seems like you enjoy it. Well at least I can see your fans really enjoy it. Yeah, I really like camming. I love having the free time it gives me and I love shopping for lingerie and wearing sexy outfits to work in. Plus I’m really just myself on cam. I’m a goof but I am also extremely sexual and sensual. I love to seduce people and I love to tease people. I love to get people fixated. How does the whole cam business work? There are a lot of ways to go about cam shows. Basically I sign on and I’m in “free chat” or “public chat” and anyone in the world can come in (except for those that live in my state, I have it blocked). If I’m in free chat I’ll set a goal, x amount of money for me to do whatever (usually I make a goal to get naked then one for a show -- me getting off for the most part). Nobody pays by the minute in free chat, but users can tip toward my goal. If I go into a group show there have to be at least 2 or 3 people that are willing to pay by the minute and then I can go into group. There are also 1 on 1 shows, where just one
user pays and they are normally more expensive since it’s just them paying. I like one on one shows a lot because I get to know people, what they like, and if they have certain fetishes I learn how to hone my skill in that fetish. It’s the private shows I learn the most from really. Do you have a boyfriend? I’ve actually been single for the past year for the first time since I was 14. I was in a relationship with my last boyfriend for 5 years but I broke it off, I fell out of love. It’s really weird to be single at this age because It’s completely different than when I was younger. Did camming have any effect on your relationship? I had a boyfriend when I was camming and it didn’t affect anything between us. I lived with him and I’d do shows in the room next to our bedroom and afterward it’s back to regular life. At the end of the day my job is a just a job. I know there are some people out there that wouldn’t be down but those are people I don’t fuck with. If you put more value in what I do with my body than who I am or our relationship then you’re not the right person for me. Not trying to delve into your personal life but is your family aware of your occupation? How do they view it? Random people in my family know and others don’t. I choose which ones to tell because I know how they’d react, none of them would ever exile me or anything like that. My family is hella loving, but i’m not even sure they could wrap their head around it so it’s not worth talking about. I don’t think it’s necessary they know. Is camming your full time job? I cam and I’m also a go go dancer. All of my family knows about my go go dancing job, I feel it’s much easier to explain. I think camming raises so many questions and my family has never been very big on talking about sexuality. In fact members of my family that are very sexually open rarely come to
family events because it’s so weird to be around some of our family members. A lot of my family is pretty religious and just on that small town simple life wave. What are some of your hobbies? I’m really low key for the most part. I write a lot of poetry haha. That sounds lame as hell but I’ve done it since I was a teenager. I love to read and I listen to a lot of podcasts about astronomy and science. I love dancing as well. I think our generation is a lot more socially accepting of people’s choices and lifestyles. Do you think that growing up in the 90’s had anything to do with deciding to do cam work?
I’m not sure if the era I grew up in really had anything to do with deciding to be a cam girl. It kinda fell in my lap and I just wanted to see what it was like. I am a curious person and I’ll try anything once. I like to be scared and I like to put myself in uncomfortable situations sometimes just to see what it’s like. I think you are right though, we are at a time when people are much more accepting of lifestyles. When I tell people I’m a camgirl I get a lot of people who say “Oh I got a homegirl that does that too!” It’s rad. I think society’s acceptance of sex work/adult work probably DOES have something to do with the 90s as that was a time when we really saw the sex industry boom. I think we’ve had a lot of time as a society to delve into sexuality and talk about it in the open since then.
How do you promote your business? I use twitter a lot and promote my blog on there which is where all the info for my camming stuff usually is. I haven’t updated my blog in a bit though cuz I’ve been kinda all over the place recently. I know of some cam girls who have fans that are very involved with their life. Do you have any fans that spoil you? Yeah, they are wonderful. I have had fans buy my really gorgeous lingerie or sometimes even send me steaks and lobster through the mail. You can get on a level with certain fans where they just want to make you happy and they appreciate what you’ve done for them. Camming isn’t just sexual, it’s also mental. I’ve had times when I just talk to someone
in a show, or I’ll cum for them and then we spend the rest of the time shootin the shit like how you would after you’ve just fucked. Have you ever heard of the Cam Girl Project, its pretty rad? Yeah I think It’s super cool! To be honest one of my low key missions is to humanize sex workers/ adult entertainers. I make sure my twitter isn’t just constantly SEX SEX SEX because that’s not who I am. . I love sex, but there’s more to me. I think that project is great because you’re looking at real women who took nudes of themselves but they’re placed into art and if you think it’s PORNY vs ARTSY you have to also think about why you think a real woman’s body changes the value of the picture.
Do you have any advice to aspiring webcam entertainers? Have fun, be yourself, promote yourself and don’t do anything you don’t want to. Any final words before we rap up this interview? Tyler Spangler is a 27 year old artists from Huntington Beach California. His work focuses on the formalist relationship between images removed from their original context. He explores the connotations of color, form, and photography through the medium of digital collage. His designs are colorful and unabashedly chaotic. He also is the artist behind our cover art. How long have you been making art?
Since I was in 1st grade. I used to draw dismembered bodies because I watched a lot of horror movies. My favorite were Nightmare on Elm Street. I owned the Freddy Kruger claw glove.
When did you develop your “style�?
I think in the past year my style has been more apparent. I think there has always been a chaotic and shocking theme that has always ran through my work, but recently I have found things that I have been very happy with.
Where do you draw your inspiration from while creating your works of art? Deep and dark music. If I can listen to some Bethlehem or Electric Wizard, I will make some interesting stuff.
Ever get artist block?Â
Sometimes. I usually just push through it and come up with something. Usually once I get beyond it the work is actually pretty interesting Do you think the era in which you grew up has anything to do with the art you create? Absolutely. There is so much at my disposal. I think my work visits a lot of different decades simply because I have access to them. I think designers pre-internet were more influenced by their immediate surroundings..
Who loves orange soda?
Kel loves orange soda. I also love orange soda. Jarrito mandarin is probably my favorite. Crush is good too.
How long does it take to make one of your pieces? Sometimes 1 minute sometimes 2 hours. I never try and spend too much time with one piece. Work that is impulsive is the best kind. It is more natural. Having any art shows any time soon? I am participating in a group show in Rome, Patchbox Project 2. A lot of the artists are collage artists. Ok so like what is the brand name Broads? Broads is basically an ideas brand... I’ve always wanted to design stuff and have been super passionate about ‘Streetwear’ for years so Broads is like basically the female counterpart of the ‘Streetwear’ industry but also a way to get ideas and projects into the world. When did it start? Like when did Broads Universal become a real thing? The first Broads collection came to life on October 23rd 2012. I live in the DMV, which is a land heavily influenced by politics while personally I’m not. The election was just around the corner and I was way over it, so I designed Broads first “Election Collection,” which was inspired by how silly it can all be. I dropped a Bad Brains parody tee alongside an oversized top that had the slogan “Less Politics More Hanging Out” and my favorite local skateshop, Art Under Pressure picked them up. Don’t you find the term “Broad” offensive? Not in the least, I believe a Broad is a female who likes to have fun but isn’t a hoe about it about (for a lack of better terms.) She’s a good mix of being *~ghetto and girly yet sassy and sweet!~* Can dudes purchase Broads attire? Not currently! I’ve released some accessories like lighters and dice which sold out so maybe more dudes oriented gear will be available come early next year. Is Space Jam in fact the best movie ever created? It’s on the top of my list but my all time favorite is Home Alone 2, one of my life goals is to ball out at The Plaza Hotel like Kevin McCallister!
Were you a 90’s baby? Do you think the era in which you grew up has influenced you as a designer/writer/ all around artist? I am a total 90’s baby! I was born in 1991 and I love it. I would say being a millennial inspires me a lot, (I’m just trying to make Broads the Spice Girls of Streetwear) the 90’s had some of the greatest t.v. shows to date and don’t get me started on the boy bands. Who is Dizasterpiece? Dizasterpiece is a 22 year old hip-hop artist from New Jersey.
Drawing influences from early 90’s hip-hop, his music speaks volumes to new and old hip-hop fans alike. Rejecting programs like Ableton and Reason, Diz uses samplers and touch pads to create his ballsy and unique beats. He just dropped his first full length LP “The Abominable Showman” and has been playing shows as frequently as he can. With diverse influences and a less than ordinary appearance, Diz breaks necks whenever he steps on stage. It’s time to get familiar with Dizasterpiece.
Who are your main musical influences? Glassjaw, Nas, Old Limp Bizkit, and Deftones. Who are your main hip-hop influences and favorite rappers? Nas, Funkdoobiest, Del the Funky Homosapien, R.A. the Rugged Man, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan (especially Method Man), and Immortal Technique. What inspires you to keep going and making moves? Theres a few things. To write music, get out and play it front of people Why the shift from HLD/PCD to Dizasterpiece? Hey Lovey Dovey was formed in 2008, we were a band until 2010. At that time I was really into grind-core music and spazzy experimental heavy music. Everyone in the band was younger then me, including my younger brother who was the drummer. When the band broke up I tried to start another project that was similar for the longest time. People kept flaking on me, people said they were all about it and never really followed through, so I decided to do a solo project where I would make electronic/techno music with hard drums and screamy rap vocals. It was called Plane Crash Dialect. After a year or so I got bored with that project and thought it would be cool to take the name and turn it into a hip hop-core band. I wanted to scream and rap and use samples. Eventually it got to the point where I was having so much trouble finding members that I became the guitarist and I had a rapper and a screamer try out. That eventually fell apart and then that rapper asked me if I wanted to join a rap group with him and his friends. I was stoked on it, I knew I could rap since I was 17, but I didn’t think anything of it or think I would be pursuing it. We did a track over one of my beats and they eventually said that they didn’t feel my flow. Eventually, I bought two samplers and came up with the idea of sampling live for a hip-hop group. I began looking for members and people were flaking even harder than the heavy music scene, because it was hip-hop. At that point everyone around me was asking me “why don’t you do things yourself? You make beats,
you’re good at rapping, don’t rely on anyone”. Here I am a little less than a year later promoting my full length. How do you figure out what samples to use? Its so fun. Its kinda like a treasure hunt. Sometimes I’ll have something in mind already or I’ll go searching for something like old jazz music. If I’m using my MPC, I can take a long clip and chop it up at random and see what kind of cool things I can recycle them into. Once I do that, sometimes I think I should add some original parts so I’ll plug my synth into my sample pad and throw in a bass lines, horns, or some synth. Sometimes I’ll even plug a microphone into my sampler and say something real quick, distort it, and use it as a sample.
What kind of equipment do you use? I use an Akai MPC1000, a Roland SP-606, and a Korg Kaossilator Pro. The first two are samplers and the third is a touch pad synthesizer that loops. Most people in this modern time are using computers but I’m using the old school stuff. How often do you play shows? Right now it’s like at least twice a month. Which is cool for me. I remember just a few years ago I was desperate to play a show and now they just keep coming my way. What’s been your favorite performance so far? It definitely has to be the last show I played where I opened up for Pete Rock & CL Smooth with Camp Lo at a venue in NJ called the Stanhope House. The only thing about that show was it was the biggest crowd I’ve ever played to as a hip-hop artist, but like a dumb-ass I went so hard from the beginning of the set that I was basically out of breath the whole time. When I was done I didn’t feel too good about my set. Me and my friends went back to my car and I grabbed my merch and my table and put it back, thinking no ones gonna buy my stuff tonight, maybe I’ll give out some free demos. I went inside and was chilling by the bar and someone tapped my shoulder and said “wheres your CD I wanna buy one” there were some in my backpack because I always have them on me. After that person after person was trying to buy one from me. I eventually had to go back to my car and get more. I made $85 off of CDs. Someone even made me sign a poster that I gave them. That made me think. I thought that was my worst live performance and all these people are buying CDs from me and making me sign a poster. That really brought my mood up that night.
Favorite Food? Sushi. Has to be sushi, favorite food of all time. That’s lately, my girlfriend got me into sushi. Now all I do is eat sushi or go on sushi dates. There’s this roll called the Mango Tango roll, which is shrimp tempura, eel, and avocado with a flap of sweet mango on top of it. It’s bangin’. What’s next for Dizasterpiece? I’m in the process of making two music videos. One was filmed already, the other was postponed to further gather a concept. I’m pretty excited to share them with the world.

This issue we have Cheyenne Sophia, a 20 year old photographer from Portland OR. Currently residing in Brooklyn NY she has been coming up with very interesting work that lets the viewer into her personal life as well as her artistic window.
The use of vibrant colors along with her subject matter separates her work from the run of the mill contemporary photography. Cheyenne is truly pushing boundaries and is showing a lot of potential as an artist. Shot on a D80 these works are just as intimate as they are descriptive. So, we sat down with her and asked her a bunch of questions to help explain herself a bit more.

I really can’t remember, I think i’ve been drawing since i was little. when i was in elementary school i went through phases of wanting to become a different kind of artist, one year it as fashion design, another it was architecture, I half assed a lot of things. the one good thing about my high school was that it had a darkroom, so I started taking photos when I was 16. Where did you go to school? Went to high school in portland, never attended college How would you describe your work? I don’t think i would. it’s really just my life, taking photos is a coping mechanism for me. lots of colorful naked beautiful people just existing? Your work is so vibrant. How do you get those rich tones in your photographs? I look for cool light source and color schemes and then enhance them.
Do you shoot film?
Nope, digital.
Your subject matter is so on point. How do you compose your images? i’m not sure to be honest. i know i’m really influenced by complementary colors and cinematic films and sex. it took me a while to figure out what i liked to see in an image but once i found what i thought looked good it became really satisfying. it’s always changing too.
What are some of the messages you are trying to convey to your audience? I’m not trying to convey any sort of message but i think the message that ends of coming across is that life is really pretty sometimes and sex is fun and it’s okay to be hairy you’re still hot. Got any advice to aspiring artists? Find something you love and don’t pretend!!! don’t be afraid to drop everything and start over or run away!!!

Originally from Venezuela, Jennifer has no professional background in photography. She is self taught and is the definition of bad ass. are something we all suffer from. Sometimes we wish we were thinner, taller, or more successful. Whatever insecurities we may be facing, it’s important to remember that things will get better. That is unless you write for the website, Return Of Kings. Return Of Kings is probably the most misogynistic website I have ever seen and ultimately an embarrassment to men as a whole. Return Of Kings prides themselves on being a “group of heterosexual, masculine men who believe men should be masculine and women should be feminine”. Okay.. so basically they’re a group of backwoods nobodies who probably never had mothers and to this day haven’t had sex. I don’t think I have ever been more pissed off upon viewing a homepage. I really want to know what men read articles like “5 Reasons You Should Date A Girl With An Eating Disorder” or “Society Can’t Afford The Educated Women”. I’m not kidding. Those are two headlines ripped straight from the websites homepage. Look, I was raised by my Grandparents and for the most part my Grandmother
played the roles of Father, Mother, and Grandmother. I acknowledged from an early age that she was way stronger and smarter than my Grandfather. My Grandmother is not a masculine women, but she did what she needed to in order to bring me up the best she could. Websites like Return Of Kings speak for the smallest possible percentage of men, period. I can’t
even imagine what the people writing the articles are like. I would imagine that they aren’t in any kind of relationship other than the one with their hand. Look, I’m not saying it’s not okay to be masculine or whatever, but hiding misogamy behind masculinity is complete bullshit. Here at 1990, our Mothers and Grandmothers raised us better than that. A true man, a true
man would do whatever he could to ensure his parter is a happy and healthy individual with dreams and goals of her own.
