An architecture school is the best place to learn and explore imagination. As architecture is a very creative eld, it also requires a creative campus and a good atmosphere to work, to learn, to enjoy. Being student of one of the best design institutes helped me in thorough understanding of different aspects like belief, culture, attitudes, trends, pedagogy, etc of this eld of education. The study addresses the following : a) a review of literature related to educational institution, campus architecture, design education, learning environment, and environmental psychology. B) case studies of design institutes in terms of its relationship of built environment to their learning philosophy. Spatial elements dening character of space and type of activities and human behaviour that it can hold.

The site for the new campus lies at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. There is a lot of undulation and a huge natural gorge. This physical feature is approx 40 m wide on average and around 160 m long. The site lies close to the Delhi ridge region, the last foothills of the Aravallis. This is another reason besides the erstwhile mining activities that give the site its terrain. However, the difcult terrain provides a host of opportunities along with problems. The variance of levels across site have plenty of scope for development. This is a site that holds tremendous potential. ARAVALLI BIODIVERSITY PARK

Context The site shares one boundary on its east with the Grand hotel. TERI is to its north west, DPS Vasant Kunj to its south and the Vasant Kunj business and shopping district to its north east. There is only one 15m road that provides access to site from the north and west boundaries. Lying in the suburbs, Vasant Kunj is not as busy as other parts of the city and is a great place for institutional campuses. There are many large campuses close to the site such as the JNU and IIT campus. 03| P a g e

Strengths Contoured site offering picturesque views strong physical context because of the ridge relatively quiet surroundings sub urban setting. Opportunities Natural green surroundings offer landscaping options. Multiple levels cans be used to dene spaces and boundaries. Height restrictions make a sprawling campus viable. Replanting vegetation offers multiple landscaping options. Levels offer rainwater harvesting potential. Low building height means more terrace and roof area for implementing solar panels. Weaknesses Low height restriction. Rocky/clayey soil conditions. Excessive undulation. Present vegetation mostly detrimental to site condition. Threats Liquefaction of soil can occur at some parts of site rendering construction they are impossible. Lack of proper drainage may turn the gorge into a swamp like area which can be a health hazard. 04| P a g e

Nadiad city & Near by villages

Kheda district

India

Introduction

Study area : 1.26 sq.km. Total population:2,47,250

Site justication The site is well connected to major roads which connects to the western part of the city through santram mandir and kheta talav. This site has concentration of commercial activities concentrated of the core. Other than that there are institutional zones and residential zones. These city level activities are attracting a huge crowd both pedestrian and vehicular from all over the city. As a result the streets become congested with multiple users. These multiple users encroaches each others designated areas and due to encroachments of vendors and haphazard on street parking the trafc and pedestrian movement slows down also due to heavy trafc ow walking is not feasible. And also trafc due to the presents of nani market and moti market in the near by context.

Image show how the customers are parking on street and also the vendors are covering half of the cairragway. There area also heavy duty vehicles which are moving in the area which makes the space unsafe for pedestrians.

Image showing how the multiple users the auto rickshaws, two and four wheelers, the pedestrians and vendors together Causing congestion. Club behind complex has been inactive since 30 years.

Image show the amount of pedestrian walking in the local streets with different purpose shopping, vending and interacting. There is lack of infrastructure supporting pedestrians. 15| P a g e
