Inspired by the Ammonite fossils follows logarithmic cur ve in its form, based on that the site is designed around 3 such cur ves which forms a cluster of fossilized imprint on the site.

The buildings housing the complex are discrete , free standing structures that house individual depar tments , organized horizontally around the three cur ves inspired from the ammonite fossils found in the area to form a cluster of fossilized imprint on the site while the spaces kept playing along the line of introver t and extrover t design by creating various transition spaces.

Perched at the foot of mountain overlooking beautiful valleys of mussoorie, the site provides excellent view, accessibility and water supply.

This made the site suitable for a research institution.

The bottom of the site was converted into a forest making it a recreation and relaxation spot.

Academic zone

The academic blocks are connected by central amphitheatre that helps form the interdepar tmental relationship that are critical to the way the science functions. more informal connections are made in the inbetween spaces of two buildings where you have spill out space for individual depar tments and stepped landscape area infront of it .

Each building also has their own social space in the form of open air south facing decks and cour tyards which provides plenty of warm sunshine for the users and views over the valley

Conceptualisation

“Dhani�

Dhani is a type of Hamlet, the smallest conglomeration of settlement. The houses are planned very close to eachother with central courtyard and small interconnecting passages between houses.

Camel Textile and Paper Industry Site- Salawas, Jodhpur Site Area- 2 acre Planned on a flat site in Salawas, Rajasthan, India, this industry is designed in response to the planning of Dhani.

The design imbibes the planning of Dhani with interconnecting passages along the smaller courtyards which acts as a buffer zone to provide cooler spaces. The workspace are open to the surrounding to retain the Salawasi artists way of working in open environment. The fins with jaali inside are tilted towards windward side to bring cooler air inside workspace. the side facing south is covered in mural to be noticeable

A Brief Synopsis of their journey

Refugee Housing

Profile of livelihood Terrace Following the atrocities, Ali Ahmed and his family with their neighbours fled from Myannmar to India. With any possible and available mode of transfer they entered India illeaglly. After being spotted BSF they were detained and later put into camp. Ali and his neighbours decided to stick together and acquired plot next to eachother so that they can work and start a new life together in a community.

ACCESS ROAD FOR ALL

The brief was to design a refugee house for Rohingyan or Tibetan refugee living in Delhi.

Each one of us were alotted different plots of 5 x 5 m in the site. Through interactive gaming sessions, seminars and exhibition conducted by us, we understood their situation, their culture and practices , we empathize and designed our structures which will use minimum resources to provide quality spaces and communal spirit among them. These structures were designed to be built by them with help of local NGO.

The connected courtyard help create more open space in a tight area bringing light and ventilation. Its a place where Ali and his neighbours can celebrate festilvals together, socialize and work.

The connected terrace helped in easy flow of Papad making materials across the terrace. Such spaces will help refugees copeup with the feeling of missing home.

Residential Landscape Site- Deonar, Nashik Site Area- 2 acre The brief was to design the landscape for residential housing of 40 families consisting of various age groups. The Project was tackled with interconnected circular spaces. The spaces were distinguised as per the use and age group it was subjected for. The privacy of familes living on ground floor was brought with the use of trees and trellis placed at equal intervals.

N E X U S Honourable Mention Our design is inspired by a spider’s web . Our design is multi functional and a single piece unit.

It comprises of three concentric octagons of different widths . These octagons are held to each other at a height of 15 centimetres by angular supports which when viewed from far look like a spider’s web. When closed it provides seating for one person in the innermost octagon.

The multifunctionality in our product comes in when we open up the second and outermost octagon. When the outermost octagon opens up it acts as extra seating space for which the cushions can be stored in the space between the second and third octagon on the fixed part . This can also be used for sleeping purposes then .

When the second octagon opens up it can act as a table for the people sitting on the outermost octagon.

The second octagon can also open up to become flat over the third octagon thus creating raised seating.

FORM DEVELOPMENT

Primary Health Centre Finalist Engawa is inspired from the Japanese architectural practice which has a open porch running around the structure. A similar approach has been taken here wherein a person is enlightened by the waiting area merging and flowing into the open space which is designed as a healing garden. From the smells and colours patients feels comfortable and secure. The circulation is around the healing space to enhance the experience. Antimicrobial materials such as copper, and social distancing seatings has been designed here to ensure maximum safety of all.

During Exhibitions the open space will be tranformed into an exhibitory space. Panels will be mounted on benches or can be kept on ground itself. During this time the waiting semi open waiting area will be kept for patients only and open space will be for both, merging both functions together into the healing enviroment.

VACCINATION CAMPS

During vaccination camp pop up tents will be setup among the healing garden and the ground. These tents will be set around 3-person bench so that it will become a seating for healthcare professional. After camps, the tents will be folded and kept in storage room for future use.

Social Distancing housing

‘Back to Square One’ caters to the exceptional need during lockdown, of sufficient private open space along with one’s residence. 40 young professionals will each be housed in a unit of 5mx5m that opens into a private balcony of 2.5mx5m. A winding staircase connects the different levels through a common lobby, which is connected to the balcony of each unit, promoting better co-habitation and relationship among the residents. Keeping in mind the need to connect with the outside, a rooftop park is designed with social-distancing seating and jogging track, acting as a space for social interaction and mental well-being.

As a part of graphic team for the Exhibition, a role playing game called UN-settled was created

As part of this Elective, Chorbazaar and Bhuleshwar were interpreted as different cities of Marco Polo as describe in the book “The Invisible Cities� by Italo Calvino Here, in my narrative, the location was interpreted as the temporary city of Sophrania
