RESIDENCE DESIGN (Semester 3) The aim of this project was to design a house for a family of five people. Mud was used as the major structural material. Rammed earth technique was adopted for constructing the walls and vaults were built using compressed earth blocks. Various passive cooling techniques like green wall, roof pond, evaporative cololing were adopted. Since the material was mud the technique of cut and fill was used for efficient use of the resources. Different sizes of vaults have been used for creating different type of spaces. The structure above the ground which consists of a bedroom, a living room, kitchen, dining and washyard is centrally focused to the open courtyard which than transits into semi-open corridors and than closed spaces. The structure below the ground has two bedroom and a library/reading room.
