The economy can create many changes – some good and some not so good – in the insurance industry. When an insurance company has lost premium income, it may lower premiums to attract new customers or enter into a field of business it has not entertained before. The latter has become a concern to me and should be a concern to you.

Be very cautious when you are approached by an agent representing an insurance company that you don’t recognize or has not written insurance for your industry in the past. A new company is willing to lower premiums to get a market share of the industry business. Although the premium may be less, you need to thoroughly evaluate the coverage, exclusions and conditions of that policy. When making your decision, look for an agent and insurance company that is experienced in your industry. They understand your exposures and provide proper coverage to meet your needs.
